Chapter 31.
Sitting around the table had become suddenly awkward. Everyone ordered their food, and now we were all sitting there, waiting. Dimitri was holding my hand rubbing soothing circles on the top of it while he quietly chatted with his sisters, but Viktoria.
She had gotten up from the table and walked away, which was eating at me slowly. Leaning over I kissed Dimitris cheek and stood up gently. His eyes searched mine to see what was wrong, but I just smiled. "Ill be right back."
Squeezing his shoulder, I scooched my chair back and headed to the front of the restaurant and pushed the front doors open.
The air was crisp, so wrapping my arms around me I looked around at the surrounding area scoping for the one person I wanted to find. And then there she sat, her back facing me.
Carefully walking around the front of the bench, I just looked at her. Her head was down, her hands clasped together and her shoulders shook gently.
"Viktoria.." I cautiously worded, setting my hand on her shoulder. Her sobs suddenly growing louder and her head shook slightly.
"N-no, but Im sure you can understand why?" She looked up at me, her eyes red and puffy, tears rolling down her cheek. It broke my heart. I nodded.
"I understand that you need time to grieve, to understand how you feel though, I don't, and it seems like I don't want to. May I sit?" She nodded her head and I took a seat next to her.
"Your sisters told us what happened, I don't want to be the tool that says the cliché things over again though, that you should be strong or that things will go away. From watching Dimitri I can tell you that it may get easier though , but even over time I still see him look sad. I know from Dimitri you are a strong girl, you will overcome this okay? You just have to stay strong." I put my arm around her shoulder and scooted closer to her.
She mumbled something but it was so quiet I couldn't hear her.
"Sorry Viktoria?" I asked letting her know it was okay to talk. She took a deep breath. Her voice shaky.
"It was my fault, I blame myself for losing Liam, and I think that's why its so hard not considering its been a month.. I was told to be on bed rest earl into the pregnancy, that the stress was becoming to much and taking a toll and I thought that one walk would be okay considering I had been in bed for a week. I only had two days to go before my docors appointment. I was so stupid." Her eyes welled with tears again and she looked away.
I looked at her sternly. "Don't. Don't think like that. My grandmother always told me, that everything happens for a reason. As bad as it hurts, that child was given to you and taken from you for a reason. Our adversities in life make us who we are. We have time to grieve, to feel sad but never should you blame yourself for something out of your control. I hope I don't sound to un-sympathetic but you cannot put yourself through this? Don't ever feel responsible or give up. You always have to push through. Okay?" I asked her facing her.
Her eyes were wide, and it was almost as if she didn't see that coming, I didn't even see that coming?
And for a third time, the tears spilt over and her sobs grew muffled as she buried her head into my chest as I engulfed her in a hug. This poor girl, so distraught, all she needed was time the pain may not go away, but in her own time she would be abe to hide it.
I didn't really know the girl, hell, I didn't know the girl, but Vika already was growing on me, and she was the sister I really didn't get to have.
Viktoria settled down a good fifteen minutes later, I didn't know the whole story of her, but maybe over time she would open up a bit more. Sitting there in silence, I soon heard heavier footsteps. Carefully I tipped my head back to see who came outside.
Dimitri stood there, holding two takeout containers. Smiling he looked back at his sisters.
"Thought I would get you guys food to bring back home." My eyes widened. " Have we been out here that long!?" He gave a light chuckle eying his sister and nodded.
"Lets all go home, its cold out here anyway, you can eat inside a warm house, and we can all sit together." I nodded. " Wee'll be right there." He smiled and turned around. Watching him get further away, I couldn't help the smile that graced my lip.
"Rose," I turned back to see Viktoria had sat up and was tying her hair up. "Yes?"
" Congratulations, and thank you for being there for dimka when non of us were, and now for you to give him a family, at such a young age, I mean we are only a year or two apart. Thank you though, for setting him straight, Im sure you will be an amazing mom, and of course I will be the number one aunt right?" We both gave short laughs and stood up.
" Ready to go?"
" Of course, Im starving. Where the food is I is."
The next couple of days passed. Since our dinner or kind of dinner with Dimitri's sisters, we had stayed at the house, talked and spent time with the kids, but it was over too soon and we were dropping them back at the airport.
The sisters came to me to say goodbye first as Dimitri hugged Paul and Zoya. Sonya laid a hand on my shoulder and gave me a warm expression.
"Thank you for putting Dimitri back into his shoes, as his sister I feel responsible for him. He was a mess before you came along and I am so grateful , arranged marriage or not, that he got to meet you. Sometimes a blessing in disguise is all you need right." She gave me a hug, as did Karolia and Viktoria.
Karolina was the next to speak up as Dimitri's arm slid around my waist. "We will be back, and hopefully before our new family member arrives? As you guys need to come visit us in Montana. Stay in Touch!" They waved and then they were off inside of the airport, children trailing behind them waving at us.
Waving back until they were no longer visible we turned and headed toward the car. Both of us sliding into the backseat.
I leaned into Dimitris side and intertwined our fingers. "Im going to miss having them here." I told him, playing with his ring.
"I will miss them very much, but I am glad to have seen them, in all these years I wondered how they were doing. I still cant believe my baby sister was pregnant. Ill kill the guy.." He trailed off and I just chuckled.
"Just remember she is only a year younger than I am and you got me pregnant." I gave him a nudge and he shrugged his shoulders.
"Whatever, that's different." He joked back kissing my cheek.
I turned to him " I have a doctors appointment tomorrow, are you busy?" I was really insinuating that he needed to be there, which his smile told me my answer.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world."
