A/N: Thanks for reading. Enjoy!
"Mia, it's pouring down out there. Get in here." I step away from the door and watch as she shakes off her pink and white polka dot raincoat and then steps out of her shoes.
"It was only a light rain when I left my place and even when I turned into the driveway."
"At least you had the sense to wear a raincoat.", I giggle.
"I wasn't going to wear it, but the pink matches the pink in my shirt." She follows me into the living room where I've already got a fire going in the fireplace. "Do you mind if I stand by the fire to warm up?"
"Go ahead." I settle on the sofa as she rubs her hands together by the fire. Her eyes scan the room and then go towards the stairs. "Oliver's sleeping in case you're looking for him."
"I was.", she sighs. "I can't help if I wanted to see that cute little face."
"He'll be awake soon enough. What are you up to today?", I ask while picking up the baby monitor to see if I hear anything, but there's silene on the other side.
"I had planned on staying inside, but I realized I was out of shampoo and conditioner. That led me to noticing that I was almost of toilet paper. I decided to make a run to the store, and your house is on the way there so I thought why not stop by to see you and Oliver. What about you? What have you got going on?"
"I've been taking care of Oliver and then helping Gail do some things around the house." Mia moves away from the fireplace and to the arm chair across from me.
"Since I don't see Christian hovering, I assume he's not here."
"He's actually on his first day back at the office. It's been odd not having him around, but things are going ok here. I've got Gail around as well the security."
"How is Sawyer's replacement doing?", she asks.
"Ryan's more like a fill in than a replacement.", I shrug. "But Ryan's doing ok. He's being extra cautious especially around Christian who made it known there would be a termination if anything goes wrong."
"I was going to say Christian had to be joking, but then I remembered this is Christian we're talking about. The guy doesn't mess around when it comes to his family. I also see his point. Don't tell him that I agreed with him.", she murmurs with a point of her finger. "I'd never live it down."
"Your secret is safe with me. Let's move on to your guy. How's Nicholas?" Mia once again starts scanning the room. "Now you're avoiding eye contact. Either things aren't going well or they're going so well you don't want me to see your face turn all shades of red." I cross my arms and set my eyes on her. "Which is it?"
"It's both. Nicholas and I are doing great. He's sweet and funny and always seems to know how to make my day better. He's adored by Mom and Dad, and I think I might be well liked by his family."
"I'm hearing all these wonderful things, yet I feel a but coming soon."
"Nicholas has a friend, Brent, who's coming for a visit. They were born on the same day and have been close friends their entire lives even after Brent moved to San Diego where he's going to school for sports medicine. I'm nervous about meeting Brent."
"Why would you be nervous about meeting him?"
"Because he's like a brother to Nicholas, and I want him to like me."
"Mia, he'll like you. How could anyone not like you? Brent might be important to Nicholas but so are you. He'll immediately see the spark between you and Nicolas and be happy for his friend."
"I hope so.", she mutters.
"How much did you miss us today?", I ask Christian after he arrives home. The first thing he did was kiss me and then go to Oliver's bassinet and pick up the baby.
"I missed you two so much. I could barely concentrate on any work." Out of the blue, he starts laughing. "It seems someone was waiting on Daddy to get home to make a dirty diaper, but it's more than ok." He pads to the changing table and starts changing Oliver's diaper. Father and son have their eyes on each other the entire time.
"Do you want some help?"
"I've got it. You asked how much I missed you two, but you haven't said how much or even if you missed me.", he smirks.
"You already the answer. Of course I missed you. Oliver missed you too.", I sigh as Christian finishes up with the diaper change. "You may not have been here, but you were always on our minds."
"I was just teasing you. While missing you and Oliver was the main reason for my lack of concentration, there was something else that made it difficult to get work done. The power went out around one. It was out for about fifteen minutes. The businesses around us also lost power, but it was still odd."
"Did you find out why the power went out?" He snaps Oliver's onesie and takes him back in his arms.
"The utility company said they weren't aware of anything happening in the area that could've caused it. They said it could have been a fluke thing. It might have been, but it's ironic that it happened only a few days after the outage at the magazine."
"You don't think they're related, do you?", I ask, following Christian out of the nursery and to our bedroom. He turns, kisses Oliver's cheek, and then hands the baby to me before undoing the buttons on his shirt, all while not answering my question. "You do."
"I'm only saying that it's a possibilty which I'm going to have investigated. The only thing lost in both cases was time, no important files or data."
"My fingers are crossed that it's nothing."
"I've been here an entire thirty minutes, and you've yet to ask if I've talked to your dad.", my mom grins.
"I assumed that you have.", I shrug while looking over the lastest issue of the magazine. Kate sent it over to me so I can have a look at it before it goes out to the public tomorrow. "Am I wrong?"
"I have talked to him. We agreed to take things slow, but that doesn't make me miss him any less. I'm looking forward to him being in Seattle. It's been a long time since we've lived in the same city. It'll give us a chance to go on dates."
"Hearing that my parents are going to have dates is a pretty incredible thing."
"Although we know a lot about each other, there are still things we have to discover about the other person. I'm sure there are some things that haven't changed and others that have. Your dad used to snore. It wasn't a loud snore, but it was still a snore. That might be a thing of the past now."
"You might very well find out.", I say. I realize that her finding out whether he still snores or not would involve them possibly being in the same bed together, a thought I really don't want to have. "I'm going to try and not think about that." I turn the page of the magazine as Lewis walks inside the house with a package.
"Mrs. Grey, this was delivered at the gate. A scan was done to make sure it's safe." The package is a small, flat box with yellow wrapping paper. She slowly hands the box to me. On the top of the package is a small card with simply the one Congratulations.
"It's probably another baby gift even though there's not a name on the card." My mom watches as I carefully open the package. "It's a book."
"What book is it?", my mom asks.
"Are You My Mother"
