Chapter 5: Defeat:

There was nothing he could do. Nothing to erase the horror that had occurred right in front of his nose.

It was the biggest disaster to have occurred in the entire history of disasters.

How could it have happened?!

"How?!", he yelled, waving a fist at the sky, as if it personally had done him wrong. He instantly quieted as to not alert any more people to his situation.

He thought he had been watching him very closely.

I suppose not as closely as I thought, I thought bitterly.

The person in front of him smirked and crossed his arms.

"Stop smirking, you smug bastard! How dare you!?"

The other person rolled his eyes and sighed.

"Hotei, I played exactly by the rules. You're just too dumb to understand that every time you roll a six, you have to say, 'Pira-chu!' and move forward two times . And you did exactly the opposite!" The guy pointed his finger at Hotei in indignation.

"Hmph, Pira-chu is too boring to say", I whined. "Pira-ki is better! And besides, you just made that rule up because of your annoying lucky item of the day!" I glared at the item in question. It was an eight sided red dice held between his index and thumb fingers.

I swiped it from his hands as quick as a fox. "You've been cheating, Ebisu-cchi! I know you have! That is the only way you could've landed on the dice rolling spot so many times!"

Ebisu's face became red from me stealing his lucky item. It didn't go away anytime soon. In fact, I made it worse. "The rules say I can use another dice!"

"No they don't!."

"Yes they do!"

"No!"

"I said yes!" Ebisu stood up, ready to launch himself at me, when suddenly the door slammed open.

"What in the world is going on here?", asked a red headed teenager with piercing red eyes.

"Fukurokuju-cchi!/Fukurokuju!", they both yelled in surprise.

Fukurokuju's eyes narrowed. "What was with all the noise? I had to interrupt my bonding session with Jurōjin in order to find out who was making such a ruckus." His eyes cut to Ebisu, who instantly sat up straight. "I expected more from you, Ebisu. I am disappointed."

Ebisu nervously cleared his throat. "Fukurokuju, I did not mean disrupt your session with Jurōjin. I apologize dearly." He bowed his head in submission.

I spoke out loudly to catch Fukurokuju-cchi's attention. "It was all Ebisu-cchi''s fault! He wasn't following the rules! He cheated the entire time!" I turned to glare at Ebisu-cci. "And it's all because he decided to use his lucky item!"

Ebisu instantly scowled at me. "Stop making excuses, Hotei! The rules clearly state that one can use another dice!"

"No they don't!" I yelled fiercely.

"Yes, they do!" Ebisu yelled just at fiercely as me.

As we were arguing, we didn't notice an approaching Fukurokuju arrive quietly behind us. "Be quiet", he said scarily.

I gulped and Ebisu's glasses fogged up.

Fukurokuju held his trusty red pair of super sharp scissors in his hands, and brandished them in our faces.

"Are you both done yelling now? Yes? Tell me exactly what the rules say."

My mind blanked out, and so did Ebisu's judging by the way he blanched. I stuttered when I spoke, trying to explain what the rules were. But all I did was embarrass myself.

Fukurokuju's head tilted towards Ebisu. "Ebisu? What are the rules to the game?", asked Fukurokuju-cchi with narrowed eyes and a deep frown on his face.

"The rules… the rules…", Ebisu couldn't even begin his sentences either. Ha! Serves him right for cheating. I smirked deviously as I side-eyed him in amusement.

Fukurokuju took a step forward. We took a step back. He looked at us, no, glared at us with so much irritation and the vicious manifestation of his dark side.

"Are you telling me that not only did you fight over a stupid game, but you also made up rules that didn't exist before? Please, I implore you to prove me wrong." He said it in a threatening tone that had me sweating and shivering non stop.

"Fukurokuju-cchi-", I started.

"Be quiet, Hotei."

I gulped in fear and shivered even more. I glanced at Ebisi-cchi and saw that his glasses were fogged up again, and that his left hand was twitching.

"Get ready you too. You're about to get the worse punishment of your lifetime." Fukurokuju swiftly threw his scissors at us, which cut off pieces of our hair.

I held out both my hands in front of me. "Please, wait Fukurokuju-cchi! I didn't mean it! We didn't mean it! Please have mercy on me!" I paused. "Actually, just take Ebisu-cchi. His lucky items will bring you luck."

Ebisu smacked me hard on my head and grabbed the front of my shirt.

"Keep talking Ebisu. Just keep talking. I think I'll do Fukurokuju a favor and do away with you instead. Hmm? How's that for luck?" His face contorted evilly and led out a loud laugh.

Rope swirled around us tightly in an uncomfortable way. "Hmm, tempting Ebisu. But, I have a feeling this punishment will put you both in your place." Fukurokuju dragged us inside, showing us off to the others. And, do you know what's the worse thing about our situation? Fukurokuju will show us absolutely no mercy.

I sighed pitifully. We should've never made up those dumb rules.

We finally arrived at the end of the long hallway where a bright red door stood with an ominous fog coming out of it. Fukurokuju threw us in without removing the ropes and locked the door.

"Fukurokuju-cchi, please don't leave me here! I don't wanna dieeee!"

"Quiet, Hotei! This is all your fault! You tricked me into playing your stupid game when I was warned from Oha-Asa that those with blond hair will be the death of me today." He scowled and turned away from me while crossing his arms.

"My fault?! It didn't even take long for you to agree and you decided to use your stupid lucky item to help increase your luck! If anything, it's your fault we're in this situa- AHHHHH!" I screamed and scrambled backwards as I was able, taking Ebisu with me.

"HOTEI!", he yelled. "How dare you?! Now my glasses are gone because of you!"

"S-sorry! But I felt something grab my leg!"

"Hmm? It's probably just your imagination", he said, waving away my fears with his normally non-caring attitude.

"B-"

"Are you both ready for punishment?", asked a deep voice from somewhere behind us.

We jumped, startled at the voice, and turned around slowly. We met each other's eyes with fear and carefully looked behind us.

"…"

"AHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Our terrified screams could be heard all throughout Heaven.
