CHAPTER 43

I do not own Doctor Who and I am making no profit off of this.

Thank you for all of your favorites, follows, story alerts, and reviews!

THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS A GOOD VAMPIRE, IS THERE?

"This TARDIS of yours is acting very odd lately. I asked the food machine for a soft drink, and it gave me rum. What if Amanda does the same thing?" Emmy, the Doctor's sister, said with a grin.

"Yeah, I've had similar things happen to me too. I tried to get some TV channels on the monitor, and it would only give me some channel from Draconia. Who knew Draconians liked soap operas so much? That was all I could watch for days! If I see one more of those, I'll start taking this stupid ship apart myself to find out what's wrong with it!" Donna complained.

"Don't you like the one where Salinda and Salar elope together against their parents' wishes and wind up living on Earth? They would rather live in exile together on another planet than live apart. Isn't that romantic?" Emmy asked.

"Well, yeah. I have to admit that I did like that one. It would never have happened though if that stupid sister of Salar's hadn't told his parents about Salinda though. Oh, I hated her!" Donna said.

"So you didn't like them, huh?" Emmy said with a giggle.

"Shut up, Spacegirl!" Donna said with a smile.

Emmy had decided to pay Donna a visit since she was a part of her family now. Also she had come to spend some more time with her friend, Lilith. She never saw her anymore, and she missed her.

Donna had been trying to use her friendship with Lilith to get her to join her little group of Wolves ever since she had arrived here, but she wasn't so sure that she wanted to be on a team again. She didn't have the greatest of experiences in the last one that she had been a part of after all. She wound up being basically ignored in favor of someone else. The same someone else who was now on this team or at least her older self was anyway. She really didn't want to have history repeat itself.

"Donna, what's with your TARDIS today? I was trapped in my room for thirty minutes before she would let me out!" Dorothy complained.

"Maybe the TARDIS isn't so bad after all," Emmy said under her breath.

"Hey!" Amanda said as she came running up to Emmy and hugged her.

Emmy smiled as she returned the hug. She had only just met Amanda a few days ago, but she had already developed a deep affection for her. Maybe it was because not so long ago she had been a little girl herself until the Doctor found her, and she remembered who she was again. Besides that, who couldn't love someone as sweet as Amanda?

"So did you have any problems with the TARDIS today, Mandy? Everyone else seems to be having one," Emmy asked.

"No, I'm fine. The TARDIS hasn't done anything to me yet," Amanda said.

"Maybe she likes you just like everyone else does," Emmy said as she kissed Amanda's forehead.

Donna smiled as she could see that her greatest weapon in the war to convert Emmy into one of them was in deployment right now. If Amanda couldn't get her to join them, then nothing could.

Katherine smiled at this scene as well. She had to admit that she felt a slight bit of jealousy every time that someone else hugged Amanda or showed affection for her, but she couldn't really blame them either. Amanda was the heart and soul of this group in so many ways. She helped keep their spirits up whenever they were down and often helped many of them work through their troubles just by being there.

Lilith came into the console room and headed straight toward Emmy and Amanda as she said, "Where do you want to go today, Em? I thought that maybe we could see Stonehenge. I've been wondering if you could use its shape and dimensions to help focus a spell and give it immense power. I thought that I might try it out and see if it worked."

"Why would you want to do that for, Spell Gal?" Donna asked suspiciously.

"Just to see if I could. I'm not out to destroy the world again, Donna. I promise! I'm a good witch now," Lilith said with a smile.

"You'd better be. I don't want to have to hunt you down," Amanda warned her.

"You're right. I would never do anything bad again for fear of having to answer to you. You're scary when you get mad," Lilith joked as she embraced Amanda while the little girl laughed.

"Don't worry. I'll keep her in line," Emmy said.

"With as many problems as this TARDIS has been having lately, I wonder if I'll even be able to get to Stonehenge. It was fine until we went to Iceworld. You don't think that Xana did something to it, do you?" Donna asked the room.

"I hope not. If she's as bad as Kane was, then there's no telling what she could have programmed your TARDIS to do if she had gotten ahold of it. I'd rather not even think about it," Dorothy said with a shudder.

"Well, you're the optimistic one, aren't you, Rosie, Jr.?" Donna said.

Dorothy automatically cringed inside at her use of that name. Ever since Donna found out that Rose had made Ace her adopted daughter, she had been calling Dorothy, her older self, by that horrible nickname. If Donna wasn't such a good friend of hers, she would have already socked her one by now.

"She could be right though. I'm no computer expert, but it's possible that Xana could have invaded the TARDIS' computer and did something to it before she was destroyed. Maybe we should take it back to Gallifrey and have it looked at," Ileana suggested.

"I'll look at it before I leave. I'm very good with computers," Emmy said.

"You're not going to stay?" Amanda asked in disappointment.

"No, sweetie. I'm afraid not," Emmy said as she rubbed Amanda's head.

Donna sighed and Amanda looked disappointed. They had both hoped that Emmy might change her mind and stay.

Lilith's expression darkened for a moment as well, but she quickly smiled when Emmy looked at her. There was no use in making Emmy feel bad for not staying. She had to do what she felt was best for her after all.

The TARDIS landed at Stonehenge, and Lilith and Emmy were about to get off of it together when Martha suddenly popped up on the monitor. Donna knew that this meant that fun time was over and she frowned. It was time for another mission.

"I really hate seeing that sad expression on your face whenever I see you now, Donna. I always feel like I'm ruining everyone's day. Duty calls though. We've gotten another case, girls," Martha said.

"It's not you, Martha. It's the cases. They seem to be getting worse and worse. What is it this time?" Donna asked.

"Vampires," Martha said.

"Again?! I've seen enough bloody vampires lately to last me a lifetime! I'm sick and tired of seeing vampires!" Donna said.

Ileana, Katherine, and Alina all glared at her as she said, "I didn't mean you three. I mean all of the other vampires. Sorry."

"Good answer," Amanda said as she giggled.

"At least she didn't put down werewolves this time. I remember that she did that same speech about them when we ran into those werewolves on the Cornish coast," Victoria said with a smile.

"I hated those guys. It took forever to beat them. I thought that they'd never give up," Michelle said.

"I know. Not even Vicky could control them. I thought that she could control all werewolves now but I guess not," Elisabeta said.

"In my experience, most werewolves are too stubborn for anyone to control. Wolf Queen or not," Abraham said.

"Can we focus on the new mission, please? Go ahead, Martha. Tell us more about it," Donna said.

"It's a strange one. There have been reports coming in throughout Leadworth of a strange young woman being sighted all over the place. She seems to appear out of nowhere to save people whose lives in danger. She's saved a little girl from drowning, an old woman from being hit by a car, and a married couple from driving their car off of a bridge when it went out of control," Martha said.

"She sounds like a superhero. I don't see what the problem is, Martha. If someone wants to go around helping people then more power to them I say," Donna said.

"If only that were all there was to it," Martha said.

"Don't tell me. She's a vampire," Donna guessed.

"You've got it. How did you know?" Martha asked.

"It must be my Time Lord powers finally kicking in. Either that or I've been in this business way too long," Donna said joking.

"I'm voting for the second one. Yes, she's a vampire. The last person that she saved got a good look at her. This was someone who had been severely injured by having a tree fall on him. She lifted the tree off of him and then saw that he was bleeding. She showed her fangs to him and hissed. He said that he was terrified of her at first until he saw her start to cry just before she pulled away from him. She then apologized to him and ran away. He actually told us that he felt sorry for her and wanted us to find her and help her," Martha said.

"Another good vampire? All of these good vampires running around are going to give vampires a worse name than that book series did," Donna said.

"Another anti-vampire remark?! If I didn't know better, I'd think that you were prejudiced against vampires," Ileana quipped.

"I have a grudge against creatures that want to suck my blood and kill me after almost being turned into one once. I'm just funny that way I guess," Donna said.

"There's one other piece of information that I should give you. It may be important, and it may not. The little girl said that the woman called herself Stefania," Martha said.

Alina gasped and immediately said, "What did she look like?"

"The witnesses said that she had long dark hair and blue eyes. She had a Romanian accent but spoke perfect English, and she was very tall and looked to be around eighteen years old. You know her, don't you?" Martha asked as she studied Alina's face.

Alina started to shake out of control as she said in a low voice, "She was alright though. He didn't turn her."

"What are you talking about?" Donna asked.

"She's my sister. Dracula kidnapped her, and I went after her to save her. I don't know what I was thinking. I guess I thought I could defeat the greatest of the vampires all by myself. I was young and stupid. Anyway he caught me as well, and I could tell that he was attracted to me even then so I told him that if he let her go that I would let him turn me," Alina explained.

"He obviously lied. Go figure," Donna said.

"No, I'm not stupid. I made sure. I went back before I was completely changed into a vampire without Dracula knowing about it, and I found her back at home crying over me with our parents trying to console her. She was upset but otherwise alright. I even went back one more time after I changed, and she was fine. She was very sad though," Alina said with a haunted look on her face.

"You went back after you changed?" Donna asked.

"Yes. So?" Alina asked.

"You didn't try to, uh . . . ," Donna said and then trailed off.

"No, of course not. She's my little sister!" Alina said in disgust.

"She's not unjustified in asking that question. Most vampires attack their families first after they've turned," Abraham said.

"Lina was too nice even as a vampire to hurt her little sister," Amanda said.

"I wasn't nice, Amanda. Believe me. Your mum can tell you all about that. I just wasn't going to hurt my sister. I had enough of my old self left in me that I wouldn't do that," Alina said.

"You must have remarkable willpower," Abraham commented.

"You should know. We fought enough over the years," Alina said as she winked at him.

"So this is your sister?" Martha asked.

"It must be. It sounds just like her. I can't understand what happened. I know that she was alright the last time that I saw her," Alina said.

"We'll just go to Leadworth and find out," Donna said.

Donna landed the TARDIS there a few minutes later, and they emerged at Amy Pond's house. Everyone looked at Donna with puzzled looks on their faces.

"We're in Leadworth. If there's anything I've learned from all of my time doing this kind of stuff, it's that if there's trouble around you'll usually find someone connected to the Doctor hip deep in it. I just thought that I'd come here first to start looking for Stefania for that very reason," Donna said.

As soon as Donna said that, they all heard the sounds of a struggle coming from somewhere nearby. They raced towards the source of all of this noise to find a woman who looked like Martha's description of Stefania fighting with River Song of all people.

"Please leave me alone. I haven't done anything," Stefania pleaded with her.

"Haven't done anything? You're a vampire!" River said.

"Yes, but I've never hurt anyone," Stefania said.

"Right and I own a bridge in Brooklyn. Would you like to buy it?" River said.

"I think she's telling the truth, River," Donna spoke up from behind her.

"Look, I know that you're all for taking in reformed bad girls on your team and giving them a big hug while you tell them that everything's alright as you all share a good cry, but this time you're wrong, Donna. I just came from the scene of an attack by a vampire where several people were killed. I saw this vampire running away from the scene," River said.

"I didn't do it! I heard screams and came to see what was happening that's all. When I saw her there, I ran because I knew that she would blame me," Stefania said.

"I know that she didn't do it. She couldn't," Alina said.

"Alina?" Stefania said in shock.

"Stefania, what happened to you? You were still human the last time that I saw you," Alina said.

"Who cares? I have to stop her now before she gets away and kills anyone else," River insisted.

"I didn't kill anyone!" Stefania protested.

"You won't touch her. You'll have to go through me first," Alina said as she stood protectively in front of her sister.

"That's fine by me. That'll mean one less vampire in the world," River said.

Donna quickly ran between the two of them as she said, "Wait a minute, you dumbos! Let's not do anything rash here. Let's talk this out first."

"Move, Donna. My mother wouldn't like it if I shot you," River threatened.

"You try it, and you'll regret it," Ileana said in a threatening tone.

"Lana, you're just making things worse!" Donna said in an irritated voice.

While all of this was going on, Katherine noticed that Amanda was missing. She immediately became concerned until she could sense that the little girl was still in the TARDIS. Apparently she had never left it.

That was unusual. Usually she always insisted on accompanying them on every case at least until Katherine made her go back inside anyway.

Katherine decided to go back inside to check on Amanda to see if she was alright. The way things were going out there it was probably a good idea for a vampire not to be anywhere in sight anyway. River might start blaming her for the murders next.

When she came back inside she saw Amanda standing by the console with an odd look in her eyes. She looked almost like she was in a trance.

"Amanda, are you alright?" Katherine asked.

Amanda didn't move for the longest time and never spoke. She just kept staring at the console.

"Amanda, I'm speaking to you. Are you okay?" Katherine asked in growing concern.

Finally, Amanda turned to her and said, "I'm fine, Mother. Why wouldn't I be?"

"Mother? Since when did you start calling me that?" Katherine asked suspiciously.

"I'm sorry, Mum. I don't know what's wrong with me lately. Maybe it's because I'm not feeling good. I feel a little sick," Amanda said.

"What is it?" Katherine asked in concern with her earlier suspicion immediately forgotten.

"I just feel really tired for some reason. Can I go to bed?" Amanda asked.

"Now I know you're sick. You never want to go to sleep willingly. Come on, sweetie. I'll put you to bed," Katherine said as she led her back to her room.

Katherine never noticed Amanda smiling at her with a malicious grin on her face for a brief moment. She never even realized that her daughter was no longer who she thought she was.

Xana lived and she had a new body at last!

Next: What's going on here? If Stefania didn't kill those people, then who did? What is Stefania's story anyway? Oh and if you think River is acting strangely you're right. You'll see why next time. Also how is Xana still alive and what is she up to? I have to warn you ahead of time that if you're an Amanda lover that you may call for my head over what happens to her in the next chapter!
