THINGS CHANGE FOREVER
"Let's all calm down before any of us do something that we'll all regret," Donna said.
"Don't worry. I won't regret a thing," River said as she pointed her gun at what little she could see of Alina behind Donna.
"If you pull that trigger, you won't live to see the results," Ileana promised her.
"That's funny. I was about to say something similar to you," River threatened.
Lilith pointed at River as she said in a low voice, "Let the others see your disguise no more as you stand revealed as a Plasmavore."
'River' suddenly changed forms and became a completely different woman. The Plasmavore looked at the others in surprise but continued to point her blaster at everyone as she said, "Stay back!"
"You killed all of those people and blamed Stefania, didn't you? Did you kill River too?" Donna asked in an angry voice.
"I don't understand. What is she?" Michelle asked.
"She's a Plasmavore. They're vampires that can assume the form of whoever they last fed off of if they drink enough of their blood. The Doctor ran into one once," Donna said.
"What happened to River?" Ileana demanded.
"She's still alive somewhere. She caught me killing those people and attacked me. I overwhelmed her though and started draining her blood too. Unfortunately, she got away before I could finish the job. Even half drained of blood, she was still a tough woman. Most people can barely stand at that point," the Plasmavore said with grudging appreciation and respect in her voice.
"What are you doing here? Why did you kill those people?" Donna asked.
"I was hungry is the answer to both of your questions. Duh!" the Plasmavore said.
"You came to Earth because you were hungry?" Donna asked in disbelief.
"Okay, you've got me. Feeding myself was just a nice side perk. I really came to Earth to find two people, the Doctor and Martha Jones. My research on the Doctor shows that he's connected to Leadworth. He's been seen here a lot. I gambled that if I killed enough people here that he would show up eventually to investigate and that I'd at least get him and maybe her too," the Plasmavore said.
"Don't tell me. You're connected to the Plasmavore who called herself Florence Finnegan, right?" Donna said with a sigh.
"She was my mother. I've come here to avenge her," the Plasmavore said.
"Never mind that she almost killed half of the people on Earth just to save herself," Donna said.
"I don't care about the humans. I care about avenging my mother. I heard you mention the Doctor. Tell me where the Doctor and Martha Jones are or I'll kill all of you too!" the Plasmavore shouted as she pointed River's gun straight at Donna.
Emmy flew into a rage at the thought of her brother finding out about the deaths of all of those people. He had enough to feel terrible about without this being laid on his doorstep. She knew that it wasn't his fault, but he would still torture himself about it for who knows how long. She had to put a stop to this now.
"You're not killing anyone else especially not my brother. Give me that gun now," Emmy said as she started toward her.
"Emmy, don't!" Lilith said in fear.
"You're his sister? That's all the better then! I'll kill you, and he'll come running for sure," the Plasmavore said as she shot Emmy in the chest.
"No!" Lilith screamed in rage as she vanished and then reappeared next to the Plasmavore in the blink of an eye.
She pulled a hair from the Plasmavore's head and then commanded her, "Drop the gun and don't move."
The Plasmavore dropped the gun and stood there helpless before the Carrionite. Lilith looked at Emmy with sad, terrified eyes as she begged, "Someone check on her. Please."
Victoria went over to her and listened for her heartsbeat. She had once worked as a nurse a long time ago. It was one of many jobs that she had held in her long life.
"She's alive but just barely. Her hearts are both beating very slowly. I don't know anything about Time Ladies though so I can't begin to tell you how she is," Victoria said.
"Please help her," Lilith said in tears.
"She might regenerate if her hearts are alright," Donna suggested.
"Dorothy, Victoria, one of you please help her! I know that you both have incredible powers," Lilith said in an extremely upset voice.
"I would but I don't know anything about Time Lord biology," Victoria said.
Dorothy knew that she couldn't alter history. What was about to happen had to happen.
"I don't know how to fix her. I . . . ," Lilith said as she went up to Emmy and gently touched her face.
Emmy's eyes popped open for a minute as she said in an extremely weak voice, "It's going to be okay, Lilith. It's alright. Man, I was stupid! I practically asked for that, didn't I? I just wanted to spare Theta more pain. I didn't want any of his friends to die either. Don't ever tell him that though. He has to keep thinking that I hated him."
"No, you don't. I know you don't and so does he," Lilith said in a terrified voice at Emmy's use of the past tense.
"I love you. You were my best friend," Emmy said as she closed her eyes.
Lilith felt both of Emmy's hearts stop beating at once. She flew into a rage as she quickly used the Plasmavore's hair on a voodoo doll and pulled out a knife. She stuck it into the heart of the doll and the Plasmavore screamed in pain. Then Lilith pulled it out and stuck it back in again. The Plasmavore screamed again and passed out unconscious.
"Lilith, stop! She wouldn't want this!" Donna warned.
Lilith pulled the knife back out of the doll and prepared to plunge it back in again, and then she stopped. She looked at Emmy and then back to Donna as she said, "You're right."
Donna looked at her with pride as she said, "I knew you wouldn't do it."
"How? I didn't know myself until just now," Lilith said as she walked back over to Emmy.
Emmy's eyes suddenly opened, and she smiled as she said, "Anything happen while I was out?"
"Emmy!" Lilith screamed with joy as she kissed her cheek and hugged her tightly.
Donna looked at Dorothy accusingly, but Dorothy only smiled back at her without making any comment. This moment would become important in this team's history soon. She couldn't have interfered in it.
"Get back, Lilith. I'm about to change," Emmy said.
"What? No!" Lilith said as the fear returned to her voice.
"It'll be okay. I'll be a little different, but it'll still be me. We'll still be friends, Lilith. Don't worry," Emmy said in a gentle voice.
Lilith nodded as she began to back away from her and so did the rest of the Wolves. Donna couldn't help but wonder if maybe the new Emmy would be less reluctant to join the Wolves than the current one was.
"What's happening?" Stefania asked Alina.
"She's about to change her appearance. I'll explain later. I'm so happy to see you again. I just wish that you hadn't become a vampire," Alina said as she embraced her sister.
Stefania was about to tell Alina what had happened to make her this way when Emmy suddenly started to glow all over and immediately distracted her. Energy shot out of Emmy's head and hands as she regenerated. Lilith looked on in fear as she wondered what her friend would be like once the glow faded.
Emmy sat up with a warm smile as everyone looked at her new body in wonderment. Emmy was now over six feet tall with extremely long legs, and she had long blonde hair and hazel eyes. She looked to be in her early 20's and wouldn't stop smiling. You'd never think that she had just died from her pleasant, ever positive attitude.
She saw the fear and sadness on Lilith's face and immediately ran over to her as she hugged her tightly. She continued to smile the whole time and couldn't stop.
"I'm fine, Lilith. Don't worry. I can't stop smiling though. I wonder if that's who I am in this incarnation. Maybe I'm unbearably happy and chipper all of the time. I guess I could have turned out worse I suppose. I could have an irresistible urge to wear bow ties! Good. I still love making fun of Theta. I'm glad that didn't change at least," Emmy said in her new voice which had an English accent now instead of the American one that she had been using ever since the Doctor found her as a human living in the Pacific Northwest.
"Oh, I'm English now. My dad's not going to like that. He won't believe I'm still me. You'll have to convince him, Lilith. You still believe I'm me, don't you?" Emmy said.
"Of course I do, Emmy. Only the real you would be worried about your dad," Lilith said.
"That's true. He's going to freak out, isn't he? It's a good thing that I told him about regeneration. Oh, and Donna?" Emmy said.
"Yes?" Donna asked in a hopeful tone.
"I'll join if you'll still have me. I think that last regeneration knocked some sense into me," Emmy said.
"Welcome aboard, Emmy. We'll be glad to have you, Time Girl," Donna said.
"Oh, I like that. It's much better than Spacegirl," Emmy said with that now omnipresent smile all over her face.
Lilith wasn't sure if she would like the new Emmy or not yet, but she didn't seem so bad so far. At least she was okay now anyway. She was really glad that she hadn't given into her anger and killed the Plasmavore. Neither Emmy or Amanda would have ever forgiven her, and she didn't ever want to let either one of them down.
"Now that that's settled and the Plasmavore is out cold, I'd like to find out what's going on with you, Stefania. What's your story?" Donna asked.
"I'd like to know that too. Why are you a vampire? I sacrificed myself so that you'd have a normal life," Alina said.
"I know and I'm sorry that it didn't turn out that way. It's just that I couldn't have a normal life, Alina. Not as long as I knew that you had sacrificed yours for me. There was no way that I could enjoy my life after what had happened to you. I decided to dedicate my life to finding a cure for you so that you could come back to us again. I started to search everywhere as I walked throughout the countryside searching for someone who could cure a vampire. I eventually came upon a scientist who had been researching the exact same problem. He had been trying to save his wife who had also been turned recently. He was convinced that he had come up with a cure for vampirism. The only problem was that he didn't have anyone to test it on," Stefania said and then she suddenly stopped as she looked guiltily at Alina.
"You deliberately had yourself turned to test it?" Alina asked in anger.
"Yes. The scientist trapped a vampire and me into the same room together. I willingly did it to help you, Alina. The scientist quickly killed the vampire by exposing the room to sunlight and then before I rose from the dead he injected me with his cure. Only it didn't work like he expected it to. I was still a vampire. I still retained my own personality though and I was able to fight my bloodlust so that I didn't attack anyone. It was only a partial success. He fell into despair, and I told him to try again," Stefania continued.
"I can't believe you did that," Alina interrupted her.
"Let her finish, Fang Lady," Donna said in irritation.
"I just can't believe that she threw her life away like that after what I did for her!" Alina complained.
"Zip it and let her finish!" Ileana said in frustration.
"Fine. Let's hear the rest of the story of how she threw her life away," Alina said in anger.
"I'm so sorry. I was just trying to help you. I didn't want you to suffer because of me," Stefania said in an extremely sad voice.
Alina's resolve melted, and she embraced Stefania as she said in a gentler voice, "I understand. I just wanted you to get a chance to live that's all."
"I know. I just couldn't with you out there somewhere trapped as a vampire forever. I had the scientist give me another version of his cure. Only this one had a terrible side effect. I started drifting off to sleep immediately. The last thing that I remember him saying was not to worry. He said that I was being put into a comatose state, but he was sure that it wouldn't be permanent. That was over a hundred years ago. I woke up a few days ago, and I found out that I was now in the twenty-first century. A descendant of the scientist was there to greet me. She was shocked but pleased to see me awake again. She said that her family had stood guard over me and kept me safe for generations. The scientist had tried but had never found a way to wake me up or cure his wife before he died. He had entrusted them to watch over me until the coma wore off by itself. She said he had told her and her ancestors that I was a good woman who had tried to help him and that I deserved their help. She had taken me with her when she moved to Leadworth and so when I woke up recently I decided to stay with her until I could find you again, Alina. I started helping people though when I realized that I had superhuman abilities now. I thought that I should use my curse to do some good somehow. Is that why you're here now? Did you hear about me? How were you switched back to your original personality again anyway?" Stefania asked in curiosity.
"Yes, we heard about you. I'm working with these people, the Bad Wolves, now. They help people with strange problems that no one else can solve usually of the alien kind. A friend of theirs helped make me like I am now, and I joined them recently after having been their enemy not too long ago. I'm so glad that I found you even if you did do this to yourself," Alina said.
"I'm glad that I found you too and that you're yourself again. Other than both of us being vampires now it's almost a happy ending," Stefania said as she embraced her sister happily.
"Almost. I still wish that things could have been different for you though," Alina said.
"Don't worry about me, Alina. I've finally gotten what I wanted now and I'm content. I finally have my sister back," Stefania said with a warm smile.
"I'm happy for you, Stefania. It's just too bad that man never found a cure. It could have really helped us out a lot recently," Donna said.
"Who was his wife anyway?" Ileana asked out of curiosity.
"I never saw a picture of her or got a description of her appearance. I only knew her first name. It was Nicoleta," Stefania said.
Ileana, Abraham, and Alina all looked at each other in surprise.
Alina sighed as she said, "Yes, I knew her for a long time. I wish that he could have helped her. She's gone now though. It happened very recently as a matter of fact. She was one of Dracula's wives just like I was."
"Maybe they're finally together now," Stefania said hopefully.
"I hope so," Alina said.
At that moment, Katherine came back out of the TARDIS as she said, "I'm sorry that I was gone. Amanda's sick and I stayed with her for a while after she went to sleep to make sure that she was okay. Did I miss much?"
Everyone laughed as Katherine stood there with a puzzled expression on her face. That expression soon turned to one of horror as Donna's TARDIS suddenly dematerialized.
"What's going on?" Donna asked in complete shock.
"I don't know. The only one in there is Amanda. She doesn't know how to use the TARDIS," Katherine said in a concerned voice.
"Apparently she does," Donna said in disbelief.
"I told you it was acting funny," Emmy said.
"Xana," Donna said in fear.
"It couldn't be. Xana's dead. Mel erased her," Michelle said.
The TARDIS rematerialized in the next minute, and a woman who looked like a fully grown version of Amanda emerged from inside of it. She stared at the Bad Wolves with an evil grin on her face as she said, "Hello, did you miss me?"
"Amanda?" Katherine asked in despair.
"No, I'm afraid not. Amanda's long gone. I am Xana, and I am reborn. It took me years to wait for this body to grow up, but now that it has I have returned to gain my revenge. You tried to destroy me, but I saved myself by projecting my consciousness into your TARDIS through a link it had established with Iceworld in order to receive information from its computers. Then I bided my time until I could find a mind that I could easily possess. I soon found it through young Amanda. She was very intelligent, but she didn't have the willpower to deny me access to her mind. I quickly submerged her personality with mine," Xana said with a smug grin on her face.
"No!" Katherine screamed in a shattered voice as she passed out from the sudden shock.
"You're going to pay for what you did to that sweet little girl!" Donna promised Xana.
"Not if you pay first for what you did to me. Gentlemen, you can come out now!" Xana said as she whistled.
From out of Donna's TARDIS poured several mercenaries who were apparently all working for Xana now. They all held their huge guns on the Wolves as Xana smiled in triumph. Now her revenge was about to be complete at last!
Meanwhile behind the Wolves and unseen by everyone, the real River Song slowly made her way to her gun which still lay on the ground next to the unconscious Plasmavore. She had been with Amy recovering for a while until she felt well enough to hunt down the Plasmavore once again. It was a good thing that she had decided to come back. River thought to herself. This should be fun!
Next: It's Xana and her mercenaries versus the Bad Wolves and River Song. Is Amanda really gone for good or is part of her still in there somewhere? Also the final fate of the Plasmavore is revealed.
