Chapter 18. Im jumping right back into it. I mean that's probably the best way to avoid writers block, right? Here goes.
Sherry
This place gave her the creeps. She had managed to find her PDA at least so now she could contact the DSO. Jake hadn't had anything on him like that as far as she knew. That was the way he was he had no allegiance to anybody as far as organizations went. Sherry moved the prison observing the death and destruction. She had a new pistol which she had found off of a dead CO. Her last pistol had jammed on her. She wanted to find Jake but she also wanted to find way out of here.
Just then a dark figure emerged from the shadows. She aimed at him but the man hoarsely said, "Hey...!" He fell to the floor. The man was missing an arm which he had tried to patch up but had not done much for him. It was a guard. A Caucasian male with mattered greasy blonde hair and tired bloodshot eyes. He'd been big in his prime, a football player in High School but now looked frail.
Sherry asked, "What happened here?" The guy moaned, "I don't have a clue...was a riot...we tried to break it up. The cholos... vs the Bloods and then everybody else got involved too...we came in with tear gas, rubber bullets, almost got it all settled down...but there was also people being bitten. We thought it was just inmates with shivs biting each other...!We got a response team in band we had people being taken to the infirmary..dying on the beds...and coming back. Then all hell really broke loose."
He looked at what had been his right arm. "Those damn things nearly killed me...tore my arm off. I barely got out of there...you...who are you...?what are you doing here...? This is no place for a civilian..."
She told the man, "I'm no civilian I'm with the US government. I ended up here by accident but I am trying to stop this virus. Do you know of a way out of here? This has spread to New York City too probably down to Connecticut even."
The guy held a pistol with his good arm. "There's a boat but you'd have to find a way to the wardens office. He took it for safe keeping. A lot of boats were taken out of here. There were some FEMA choppers coming to evacuate some people ...but we haven't heard from them in days...the last one left thirty six hours ago. It's insanity...certain people got out of this prison and out of the city...that's what i was seeing on the TV station when it first went down...but then...the rest of us are being quarantined...I'd heard they were going to blow up every bridge connecting the Boroughs too..."
Sherry was panicked about that. "They may try destroying the city too. The government has done it before two other times to try and contain the virus. I need to find a way to that boat. Can you tell me where this wardens office is?"
The man shook his head. "No use...it's hopeless. No hope for anybody on this island...I hope to God you get out of here but it's not likely you'll make it...I'm sorry...you're here...what are you...one of the nurses...?"
She had already told him who she was but he had likely forgotten due to blood loss. "Just rest. I'm going to get you some help. There should be a medical kit. It's not likely but maybe one of the medical staff is a big prison and it's better equipped to deal with prison riots and injuries that come from them."
The guy chuckled in a hopeless manner. "Lady...you have no idea how hopeless it is...there's nothing you can do..."
He raised his pistol and fired into his own temple. Sherry didn't have time to even tell him not to. "Damn it!" She looked down at him in disbelief. Sherry moved on knowing she needed to find that boat key if she and Jake were to have any shot at getting out alive.
Even then it would be a matter of then finding out where the boat would even be on the island. Sure, the prison in China had been more difficult at first to escape from since there were pass codes blocking the doors but this was a big place and they had no idea just where everything was.
Sherry needed more ammo for her Bushmaster. She headed down the dark hall way. She came into what looked like a staff break room. There was a male inmate who was inside standing over the body of a guard. He held a bloody jail house knife in hand. He turned around and Sherry saw he was a C virus carrier only he was not a zombie he was J'avo.
He was a stocky Asian male of about thirty or so standing at five foot ten. He'd had a scar along his left cheek extending to where the sideburns would be if he'd had any. It seemed even before the infection he'd had a hard time at Rikers but then he must have been a survivor before that because he had been able to get a hold of a shank. Or make one...or maybe he got a hold of it after infection. Who knows? Gotta put him down.
He growled and lunged for her but she fired two shots hitting him in the chest and all though she slowed him down she noticed he came a lot closer than she would have expected and was much faster than she expected too.
He growled and stared her down and tried again but she fired the 9mm into his hand taking off two fingers. Another slug went through the top of his hand and he dropped the knife but charged into her even as she fired a fifth shot. He threw Sherry against the wall and attacked her with his fists throwing at least three blows at her head as though he was in a street brawl.
Sherry kicked him in the stomach and came up pistol whipping him, splitting his head open leaving a cut near the eyebrow. She fired a shot next to his right ear and he went down. Just then he began to mutate into a Glava-Sluz. It spit its slim onto her and she was trapped. She cried out struggling to get free.
The body was still up and it grabbed the shank and stabbed her in the side. Sherry cried out as blood poured from the wound and she fired round after round in a rage, backing up jher blood dripping as she reloaded. It came at her still so she aimed for the center of the mutated head. She fired again and let off four more rounds and it went down.
She moved out of there, looking desperately for a way out. It was clear almost nobody except her and Jake were fit to survive especially in this prison but even for the two of them she didn't like the odds. She regretted them splitting up.
If she couldn't find the key to the boat she decided she would have to find a way to contact either the DSO or the BSAA and get them a lift out of there and get them to send in some of the military to take back this prison. As she walked down the dark damp halls she brain stormed on just how she would go about doing that, get Jake and then get the hell off this godforsaken island.
As she moved into a slightly brighter room she heard a sound on a radio. It was a male voice. "Well, hello, Sherry. It's nice to see you've made it this far. Admirable but you're far from safe. I can see you've split up from Jacob. Not a wise decision if I do say so myself."
She remained calm but firm. "Why did you bring us here? What real reason is there? You know were going to escape and when we do we're coming after you. Even if we both died here which I doubt you want to happen, Chris would still be after you. Even if the Agency, the FBI, the DSO, National Security and the army fails to find you he won't."
Alex was amused by that. "You have such faith in the man. I suppose I understand given how many times he has saved your world from certain destruction. The same goes for Claire. They're both heroes and they don't get the credibility they should for the things they've done. This shows just how flawed human beings are. But you can't forget Chris's failures as well. He let all of his men die in Edonia and in the end he never killed the woman responsible."
Sherry said, "It wasn't that simple but the woman who did it was stopped. Do you really think you're going to get away with all of this? Umbrella is done and we're closing in on the Family. You may have a lot of the DSO on your payroll but a lot of good agents would never flip and they'll be onto you!"
Alex told her, "You think it's only me who's setting things in motion in this fast changing world? Yes I may control the Family I do not deny this but I have help. Here's a little secret I'll give you which is yet another thing you cannot stop. Jacob's father is alive."
Sherry's blue eyes widened with shock and a bit of fear. "What?!"
With that the connection was cut off. Sherry paced a bit then began to continue the way she was going. I have to tell Jake about this...how is that even possible?
Josh
There didn't seem to be much hope that the US government or anybody else would be able to regain control of the city from the hordes of C virus carriers and various other B.O.W's that were destroying what was considered by many to be the greatest city in the world. Josh didn't like being on his own but right now it was what was needed. He much preferred the days when he was with the SOU and not the SOA. It wasn't that he was cowardly but he just much preferred being on a team than being alone or even just having a partner but he always learned to roll with the punches as they came.
He missed his old team from Kijuju though he couldn't deny that. They'd secured an old town in Congo about two years before, when it too had been a hot bed for terrorists but their mission had been more successful there than in Kijuju. He hadn't lost anybody on his team for that one.
A couple of SOA agents had died, one man from the UK and one woman from the East African division, a Kenyan national plus several members of Bravo Team had perished though as it did get pretty hairy out there but that was before a lot of the African operation team members had gotten their feet wet but all things considering Bravo Team then had only lost three agents out of twelve. They had suffered two of the casualties from Bravo due to a gunfight with some Hutu extremists there who had come into the Congo from Rwanda. The dreaded Interahamwe terrorists.
Josh had felt no remorse when he had killed many of them along with the B.O.W's as they had been trying to get bioweapons to use not only against the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo but the Tutsi people in general since when the genocide in Rwanda had happened, in the 90's later the Tutsi rebels had driven the Hutu militia into the jungles of the Congo but sadly this only helped them spread.
Josh's parents had been freedom fighters and he hoped to one day see all African nations show respect to the sovereignty of its vast groups that called the continent homes. As his father had said in the past,"What is the point of us all being independent of England Portugal, France and the Dutch if we are only going to kill each other while they reap the benefit of it?"
So Josh was proud of his tribe of his country of his continent and unlike many Westerners he always looked at the beauty as well as the bad that came with it. He imagined Sheva was the same way but when he saw men like those in Interahamwe he hated them. It was people like them, who kept this continent from progressing just as much as the first world countries and their support for dictators that backed US and British interests.
He'd felt more mercy for the mindless zombies he'd shot in the line of duty than for them. Josh had no hatred for any group as a people he had known great men and women who had been Hutu and who had been Tutsi and he'd known Hutu people who had been against what the militia had done. Josh often had to keep reminding himself as he had known before he'd ever seen or heard of a bio weapon, that human beings were the truest monsters. It was humans who were the destructive, frightening despicable creatures. More than any zombie, majini, Licker or Hunter.
Now he was a long way from home, eyes on the path in front of him as he made way to the Empire State building. He checked his Desert Eagle just to be safe. He had six shots left. It would do for now. He moved around a burning tour bus and the familiar stench of burning flesh filled his nostrils.
Malkia Bonde, Congo
May 4 2007
Captain Stone and the rest of Delta Team made their way through the row of houses on a hill overlooking the east side of town. One SOU agent was on point, Raul Aguilar, an Afro Caribbean. He was half Afro Cuban half Haitian. Originally he had been with the North American branch but had later transferred to the West African branch. He had wanted to be closer to his roots across the ocean as well as be able to use his skills where it was needed most.
All though everybody on the BSAA's payroll knew about Raccoon City and other infamous events that happened in the United States, they also knew that nowadays the United States was safe from bio terrorism. Raccoon City had been a fluke and a cover up but the country was after all, first world. "Aguilar, report?"
The agent had a cigarette in his mouth. He was a wiry man with skin nearly as dark as Josh. He had on glasses and a fisherman's hat instead of the typical BSAA helmet most SOU agents put the butt out and said, "No sign of hostiles, jefe. The local police and military seemed to be trying to stabilize the region. I talked to an officer and they said they've got some kind of quarantine going on. They might be looking to evacuate too."
A north American agent, Ezra Muller, a Caucasian male with a shaved head and a stocky frame who stood at five foot eleven and had a US Army Rangers tattoo on his left forearm indicating his prior military experience as well as combat in Iraq, said, "They seem to be checking for pass ports. Idiots that's not going to tell them who's infected. For all we know there might not even be any bio weapons here."
An East African agent, Imani Mweneye, who was from Rwanda, and a survivor of the bloody war that had torn the country apart, said, "No, the information is good. Agent Bonham said he saw it in his last report when they were only doing recon."
Captain Stone reluctantly said, "Yes and neither him or Agent Eshe have been seen or heard from in three days. They contacted HQ with their findings but then we lost contact. If there's B.O.W's here we will find them but more importantly we will get our men out of there!"
Sheva spoke up, "Our man and woman you mean," She said smiling playfully correcting her older brother figure. Josh patiently said, "Yes, Sheva, of course. I just hope they are both all right."
Josh saw the rookie he had taken in Paul Okinyi, looking nervous, the tall skinny boy holding the Kalashnikov as though it were a long lost lover or dear friend. "Ndugu kidogo ni wewe wote haki?"
(Little brother are you all right?)
The young man nodded trying to be brave. "Ndiyo bosi. Hii ni dhamira yangu ya kwanza ni yote."
(Yes boss. This is my first mission is all. )
Another agent, a white South African with blonde hair and a reddish brown beard and blue eyes said, "Hey you mind telling me what you're saying, bru?" Josh ordered, "None of your concern. Keep alert, Vos. If Agent Mweneye is correct then we need to be alert. Whether it is Bioweapons or interahamwe hostiles we must be alert."
Imani turned to Raul, "You know smoking will kill you, brother."
Raul shrugged. "I appreciate your concern but I don't fear death. Besides, my grandfather smoked all of his life and died when he was eighty seven."
Imani didn't let up. "Even so, he may have lived longer than that if he hadn't smoked," Raul blew smoke. "That's not the point. He still lived a long time."
Just then their conversation was interrupted by the sound of automatic fire. They all got in defensive positions moving toward the sound. Josh beckoned for the group to remain quiet. Sheva joined him on point, she carrying an H&K MP5, he carrying an AK-101.
They heard screams and more gunfire. They peeked around the corner to see several civilians running as three zombies made their way after them. There were two others also feasting on an old woman. A police officer was backing off firing several rounds into the abdomen of one zombie, a short black male with blood caked around his face.
Josh knew their presence had to be more discreet because they were not supposed to be there officially. The Republic of Congo had denied them legal passage into the country so now just like many US special forces ops they were there illegally.
Sheva stepped out calling, "Get away from him! Aim for the head!" The police officer stopped firing and looked at her. "Who the hell are you? UN?" Sheva fired the H&K nailing the closest zombie in the left eye. Raul and Vos fired taking out the other two zombies. Josh drew down on the duo eating the woman. With just a few bursts he took them out,m their brain matter decorating the side of the building.
The officer demanded again, his handgun still smoking, "Who are you? You are not local I can tell that much."
Josh informed him though he did not want to as he suspected trouble would come from telling him, "Bioterrorism Security Alliance. I'm Captain Joshua Stone. We are here to stop this infection."
The man growled, "The president declined your right to be here! Yes even us constables know all about you trying to overstep national boundaries. We are a sovereign people!" Josh stepped up to him man to man. "We are from this continent same as you but this is a plague. There are bio terrorists selling bio weapons to rogue states and guerrilla armies on the black market. Nobody is here to override your sovereignty but there are some things that affect everybody."
The policeman frowned, "The Republic of Congo is not a rogue state!" Imani stepped forward boldly, "No but your government is guilty of harboring and protecting the Hutu militia. They would stop at nothing to carry out their sick agenda."
The cop sneered, "You are a Tutsi aren't you? Rwandan by your accent. I have heard it all before. I don't suppose in your righteous crusade you happened to remember that before the cockroaches were butchered in the 90's the Tutsis killed 200,000 Hutu?"
Imani aimed his weapon at the officer who panicked and aimed back. "Refer to me as a cockroach again and it will be 200,00 plus one."
He was actually of Tutsi and Hutu ancestry but was not about to back down to this cop who held sentiments similar to that of the extremists of the same kind of unfair treatment he had faced in his own country. Josh stepped between the two. "Nobody is going to shoot. Imani lower your weapon that is an order."
The agent did but Josh ordered the officer, "You too. I understand you have a difficult job. Many of the people on our team come from military and police backgrounds but these are my soldiers and we are fighting for a good cause. If you want to fight you on your own are outmanned and outgunned. So what do you want to do?"
The officer reluctantly lowered his pistol. "I had no knowledge of any of this before. It is not my business if the government is protecting certain forces. Whatever the reason I am sure they were doing it for the greater good. I am a patriot. I do not question our leaders."
Josh and the others began to walk searching the perimeter and the officer walked with them. "That is not a patriot, friend. That is a puppet. A true patriot would question his government out of love for the country. When your country is headed in a direction that is not beneficial to you, it is your duty to question and resist it. Now we have sufficient evidence to believe not only the Interahamwe but the government is involved in distribution of bioweapons and the use of them. Will you help us to stop it? If this gets all over the country it will affect everybody."
The man swallowed his pride. "Yes I will help. The towns people are going crazy. This may be somewhat of a larger city than most but it is still rural at its heart and foundation. We are not used to this kind of trouble here."
Just then a fence came down and several of the undead came barreling in. They could hear gunfire to the south east and Josh spotted several men with Assault Rifles unloading on the carriers. The local said, "Those men are the kind you speak of. The government does harbor them for its own interests but they are becoming more trouble than they are worth. If we can't contain their behavior even our sympathetic ears to them will go deaf."
The militia members took out four of the zombies near them. One of their own however was bitten. He collapsed on the ground holding his bloodied neck as the walking corpse stood over him the black and red flesh still in its teeth as it chewed the salty bloodied substance. An Interahamwe rebel, a dark skinned man with a mini Afro wearing a pair of green cargo pants, a white T shirt under a gray windbreaker, and a red bandanna around the forehead, hit the zombie in the forehead once and again in the face with his own AK-47 and as it fell with broken teeth, he fired a three rounds into its already split open skull. "They killed Archer! Bastard!"
He then aimed at his fallen comrade and fired a single shot into his head. Josh retrieved his Sig Sauer P226 and fired five shots at a female coming at him the rounds causing severe bleeding among her breast tissue as one round lacerated the nipple even. She kept coming but he fired two more into her stomach with the hopes that if he centered his aim on the middle of her mid section he'd have a spinal shot from the front. Sure enough she collapsed and twitched.
He wasn't sure if he had severed it but he wasn't about to wait and see. He put a final slug in her computer letting the poor soul rest finally. Sheva brought down the remaining R virus carriers with rapid fire from her Heckler and Koch.
She had killed all but one with body trauma from the gunshots, bleeding out. Even the undead could only take so much damage and as the younger African agent put a few mercy rounds in the brain of one who had survived, having seven shots in his back and four in the left leg, Josh was grateful that of all the myth of the undead perpetuated in shitty horror flicks, at least it didn't always have to be a head shot. Sure it helped to ensure they were dead but he was glad that they could also bring them down with body shots.
An agent named Hamid Malek from Algeria, a man of Arab stock, who had light brown skin, and stood six feet tall with curly hair, who was with the West African branch suggested, "Captain, those men are hostiles we either need to neutralize them or get them to surrender. Doug, Johnson, we can get them from the front. They're better off alive so they can tell us what they know."
Josh agreed but said, "Understood but I am the Captain, agent Malek," The agent apologized, "I'm sorry sir. It was just a tactical suggestion."
Josh ordered Doug their pilot and Johnson, "You heard the man! You cover from the front, me and Sheva will cover from the rear. The rest of you, divide yourselves between groups we need an equal amount covering each side."
Agent Muller aimed his P90 at the rebels and shouted, "You! Drop your weapons! Now!" His BSAA comrades covered him. Sheva and Josh flanked them coming around through the broken fence. There were three militia members and they were heavily armed and maybe they could get off a few shots and kill one or two Delta members but they were out manned and out gunned. The men lowered their weapons.
One of them, a man in his early twenties maybe around Sheva's age but far less pure in heart, glared at them. He had a scar on his left cheek. Josh was not sure if this was a tribal ritual or from combat. "Well if it isn't the cavalry...what can I do for you?"
Sheva barked, "You can start by telling us what the hell is going on and who you work for! These creatures were created by a virus. A virus Interahamwe is using for biological warfare!" The man smiled with yellow teeth. "You are a mouthy one. My father was a Colonel in the war until 1994. The UN rebels shot him. Tell me are you from Rwanda? And you are United Nations? If so you are a bigger traitor than I thought."
Sheva denied it, "I was born in Uganda and lived there until I was eight then moved to Sudan and it's none of your business. I grew up with the same kind of scum terrorists as you. The LRA destroyed my country and so did the people who gave you these bio weapons to use. I spent my life fighting evil bastards like you!"
The man chuckled. Josh grimly said, "Yes, Sheva. These men and the men from your home are two sides of the same coin. One kills for ethnicity the other for religion. Both are disgraces to who they claim to represent. We represent the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance. We are here to stop this madness."
The men sneered, "I am not telling you a thing. Take us into custody you will not change the outcome."
Josh shrugged. "If this is what you want. Agent Yung, Agent Foster, arrest these men," Agent Yung was a Chinese American agent standing at five foot nine. He had a goatee and a mustache and shaggy black hair though it was hidden under his combat helmet. He was originally a member of the North American branch but had gotten transferred to the West African branch. He originally hailed from Miami and had been in the US Navy.
He was pushing forty or already was and had fought in the Persian Gulf was nearly forty, Josh himself only thirty three so he imagined it was awkward to have to be a subordinate to somebody at least five years younger than he was especially when he'd been a Sergeant over there and most of the Sergeants were his age or older. Still, the two had great respect for each other in the missions they'd done together.
Foster was black and a couple of inches shorter than the former. He had a shaved head and was lighter skinned closer to Hamid's complexion. He wore a golden cross under his BSAA fatigues and under shirt but was sometimes visible.
He was originally from Detroit and had been a policemen there. He had joined the BSAA in '05 after four years on Detroit PD's had worked in the European branch at first for two years since he wanted to see the world and prior to being employed there had never been outside of his hometown but had transferred to the West African branch.
Foster cuffed one of the men and said, "Sure thing captain. One thing about my old job I never forgot!"Yung forced a second one on his knees. "Come on. Hands behind your back. Slowly..."
As he cuffed the second, Dave Johnson moved in to cuff the third when suddenly automatic fire rang out again. Josh was hit in the back and went down and as he did took four more in the chest. A round grazed Johnson in the arm. "Shit!" He cried out. Raul wasted no time spotting the shooter. A comrade of the three they were arresting. He fired and nailed the hostile at twenty five yards with rounds in the chest from his own Sig Assault Rifle.,
The man went down clutching six bloody holes in his torso, and as his body pitched forward face down in the dirt he could see exit wounds in his back. Yung got in front of another terrorist and yelled, "Do you want to die? You'd better tell us who gave you the virus! We know it was somebody on the black market!"
The man sneered, "Fuck you cowboy. I don't answer to Yankee swine and besides you are in no position to kill us if you do you are interfering with a country's policies like your government often does. You also cannot take us prisoner either there are more of us than you my brothers in arms will find you and cut you all to pieces and even if you did manage to survive you would not be able to complete whatever your mission is and baby sit the three of us. So kill me already if that is what you have to do."
Josh punched the man hard in the stomach and as he grunted from impact gave the man a roundhouse kick. The man coughed and Josh approached him pressing the pistol to his chin. "You'd be surprised what I'd be willing to do to you when there are innocent lives on the line."
Present Day
He withdrew the AK variant ready for anything deciding that the Desert Eagle was best for less powerful enemies but at the same time it could be good for some stronger hostiles like Lickers and Hunters but he needed to conserve both as best as he could. Josh didn't know the area so well he had been to New York City a few times for tours but he had always had locals to show him around. Now the locals were dead. As he moved through the streets in the rain he began to see something up ahead. What looked like a survivalist group of about eight people.
He could see some carried firearms others carried blunt objects and stabbing weapons to conserve ammo. It seemed this group had given up on the idea of evacuation from New York both the city and the state. They had accepted that help was not coming or if it was it would be too late for those who waited on it so they were taking it upon themselves to survive. Scavenging what they could
Two of the scavengers were examining an open semi truck raiding the back. The man was a white male with curly shaggy blonde hair a blonde beard and blue eyes looking to be in his forties. He wore a black bandanna plus a red jacket and black T shirt The woman was Eurasian with hazel eyes, a bob cut she wore a white blouse a gray jacket, and blue jeans. She carried a shotgun the man carried a baseball bat. The man spotted Josh approaching and asked the woman, "What do you think? Military?"
She wasn't sure. "Paramilitary maybe. Hey sir...are you with the US Military?" Josh shook his head. "No but I am here to help. I'm afraid I'm not much relief for your group but if you can help me with my mission I can promise that will help end this nightmare for all of you. I need to know the way to Empire State Building."
The man stepped forward, "Are you kidding me? We're barely getting by here our group used to have twenty people but those things keep shortening us. We don't have time to help you when you haven't been helping us!" The woman said, "Just calm down, Harvey. Sir, we'd be happy to help you but can you let your commanding officer know that we're sitting ducks out here? We're going to survive as best as we can but it'd be a lot easier if uncle Sam pitched in. You can find Empire State building y its zip code it's the only building with a zip code."
She told him the address.
Josh explained, "I'm not with the US government. Let's just say I'm with the United Nations..." She eyed his uniform. "It says BSAA. Oh wait I've heard of you guys... you..."
She was cut off as there was a loud growl and a crashing sound. Josh brought his Assault Rifle around waiting to see what it was. A car came flying through the air and he hit the ground like it was an air raid on instinct. A Ndesu was barreling down the street. It knocked into the man, Harvey with a fist sending him flying into the window of a bicycle shop. The man smashed through teh glass and lay there a bloodied mangled wreck but still alive.
The woman fired her shotgun and the rest of the group, those who had guns, fired at it too but it grabbed one man, a Jamaican male with an Uzi, grabbing him in one hand. It began to squeeze and the man cried out as his ribs were crushed blood coming from his mouth until it squeezed harder and broke his back. He attached it to his belt adding to the collection of bodies already hanging from him, most of them NYPD but a couple of civilians and soldiers too. Josh aimed for its head firing twenty rounds aiming for its eyes.
"They just killed Willis! What the fuck is that thing?!" Screamed a redhead as she fired to Glock 18's at the things head. It grabbed a powerline and swung at her. He sent her crashing into the side of an SUV smashing it busting out the windows. She was paralyzed, her head busted open and could not talk or move she only moaned The thing brought it down and smashed her body to a pulp.
Josh fired another forty rounds into the mammoth beast so it dropped the telephone pole and its back opened revealing the parasite. With no time to reload he got his Desert Eagle and fired two shots then three at the thing. He fired another but it went back in as the wound closed up.
Josh screamed, "I thought you ugly bastards died off in Africa!" The woman with the shotgun was grabbed by the giant beast after she fired three shots. It threw her into the same SUV and she landed on the windshield smashing it in. She cried out coughing up blood as the side of her face had also been cut.
Josh wanted to lob a frag at the thing having taken a few off of dead soldiers but he couldn't do it when it was so close to her. It started to bring its foot to smash the vehicle but he fired into the sole of its feet having freshly reloaded this time a drum mag. He let thirty into it and the beast howled. Three of the woman's group members picked her up off vehicle. Josh fired trying to keep it distracted and demanded, "Do you guys have a place you can take her away from here? Somewhere to treat her wounds?"
An African American woman accompanied by two men, one of Guatemalan descent, who wore an oversize old navy sweater the other Russian American who wore a puffy black coat in Hip Hop style plus blue camouflage pants said, "Yeah thee's a church. We've got two others there who can help, one of them is a trauma surgeon. We're low on supplies but we'll do what we can."
The woman was not damaged beyond repair but her ribs were broken and her leg was twisted up and would need to be popped back in place. "Harvey..." She cried out. Josh wanted her to hang on even though he knew it was likely futile so he lied saying, "I'll do what I can to help him and get back to you. You just rest and save your strength. I'll handle this."
She whimpered, "Thank you..."
Josh readied himself for the difficulty that would come with facing this thing alone. Even so even if it wasn't the same exact creature, it had been this prototype of B.O.W. that had killed all but one member of Delta Team. He had thought Johnson had at least been all right since he hadn't been there when the rest of the team fell but he had been killed driving Chris and Sheva.
So while this was not revenge in the traditional sense it was in a symbolic way. He would "Avenge" his team when he could not before. He had only escaped with his own life and he'd felt terrible about it.
He fired the AKM again aiming for its eyes. It punched hard into the concrete and brought out a huge chunk of it. He could see where this was going. It threw it and he rolled away just barely dodging it. He still peppered it with rounds from the ground and he got up moving to a crouching position until it started to come at him again. He moved back but continued unloading on the beast.
It grabbed him and snatched him up and began to squeeze. He cried out but had managed to get his combat knife and he swung into the hand from the inside until he was able to cut his way through the flesh to the outside and he brought it down in a stabbing motion. The beast roared and threw him to the ground. He hit it hard with a thud. Josh screamed as the shells flew out of the back, the muzzle flash lighting the night as he emptied yet another magazine. Josh saw it get into is same weakness position so he readied the Assault Rifle after reloading.
He fired again letting eighteen rounds into the gigantic parasite. He concentrated his fire aiming for the center of teh parasite and he fired another the rounds. Finally it burst and went down crashing to the earth. "That was for my team..." He said softly.
Ada
They rappelled down the side of the building, Leon panicked every step of the way. They finally made it down north of where the actual shooting was going on. "I thought you were fine with heights, Leon. You handled yourself before in Lanshiang."
He was paler than usual. "That was out of necessity not choice. Can we get out of here? We need to find John and David right now they're the only BSAA agents we can trust. I'd be able to trust Chris too if he wasn't still convinced you killed his team."
She replied, "For all the good it's done us so far I may as well have destroyed every last bit of evidence about Carla. Having it hasn't convinced too many people of the truth. That's the problem with trying to save everybody. People will still believe whatever they want."
As they moved down the street away from the gunfight down below Leon insisted, "I'm not going to let them kill you, Ada. They'll have to go through me first. I know it's not going to be easy but in the end the truth has to win out."
Leon kept the Glock ready but wax prepared to use the MP7 if any soldiers or BSAA agents tried to attack them. For now they needed to keep a low profile. "If we want to stop this virus from getting any worse we have to get to that elevator that leads underground below street level. The problem is I don't know how to get in there. We'll have to get back inside and even once we do I think we need a key card to access that secret elevator."
They sneaked to stay out of sight. "I think John is caught up in that firefight we have to help him! He's trying to help you and me it's the least we can do!"
They spotted a Humvee going up the road and Ada searched the bodies in the street going through them as quickly as she could. None of them were John. "He's not here."
Leon aimed the MP7 up the street at the Humvee but knew it would be pointless. That was an armored vehicle. "They must have taken hmi on that one we have to go after him!" Ada could see the tactical error in that. There was more BSAA agents than they could take head on.
Sure, in a more ideal environment with more ideal surroundings picking off BSAA agents would be easy just like i would be easy to take out soldiers but a bunch of men behind a vehicle that was sure to be bulletproof and on top of that had a .50 Machine Gun in the back was not favorable enough odds.
Ada stopped. "We can;t, Leon. There's nothing we can do for him now except get into that underground base and destroy it even if it means destroying the building itself. If they've got a factory down there manufacturing the C virus and that's as much a source as the gas, we have to stop them. I wouldn't expect neo Umbrella to still be operational anyway after what I did to Carla so that only leaves the Family."
Leon eyed her with disapproval. "Are you kidding me? After everything he's done to try and help us? He's not only trying to clear your name as a bio terrorist but he just took on the US military in a gunfight to keep them and the BSAA and whoever else Trent and Alex can muster up after us. He's lucky he's alive after that the least I can do is try and buy him some time. You said you wouldn't abandon me again but if that's what you're going to do..."
Ada turned to face him. "I understand I've given you reason to have a lack of trust in me but I've also done things to help you that should have at least earned me the benefit of the doubt. You can't keep punishing me this I need you to trust me. We can still go after him. Better yet if Chris Redfield gets to him first won't John tell him the truth?"
Leon thought a moment as they went past the dead bodies back into the Empire State Building. "I'll try and follow your lead just this once and I'm going to trust that you know what you're doing but at the very least I want to find another PDA. Ours keeps getting lost or destroyed. I need some means of getting word to Chris so I can warn him and tell him the truth."
They went back into the building and Leon smirked. "Kind of strange going back into a building we just snuck out of."
He looked at what seemed like an endless amount of glass from broken windows going up several floors. Good thing they didn't use the helicopters here like they did at Grand Central. I don't think we would have made it out alive if they had. She thought all though the tanks were still bad news. They probably would have gotten an air strike if it weren't for John and his distraction plus the zombies.
Just then, a spot light fixed on the two as they entered the building. "There she is! Open fire!" Ada grabbed Leon's arm and they ran as automatic rounds were let off from positions they couldn't see. Damn it! I guess they're not all dead...
Ada scrambled for the elevator. Leon frantically hit every button as he returned fire. Finally one did open up and they got in. A red dot focused on him and fired but he hit the ground before it could the bullet barely missing. Ada luckily had recovered not only some ammo from dead soldiers and armed civilians but also a few grenades. She tossed a flash grenade and a smoke signal in the opposite direction. The smoke began to fill the lobby and the flash soon followed.
"The bitch used a flash bang! No visual. I think they've headed for the elevator," The Sniper radioed in. "Young, do you got eyes on them?"
"Negative! Okay, take, Charles, Anders and Ignacio keep an eye out to see what floor those two are going to. This is straight from the top boys. Ada Wong is priority number one. We can only assume Agent Kennedy has gone rogue to help her. If he assists any further take him out too."
Meanwhile as the elevator went upwards Leon and Ada coughed as some of it had gotten to their lungs before they'd gotten in. "A little forewarning would be nice next time!"
Ada caught her breathe. "I couldn't take a chance. They had us in their sights. We're lucky they missed you the first time."
Leon had taken a radio off of one of the dead reservists and he listened in. "Sir, they're headed to the thirteenth floor."
"Affirmative. Have Stamps get Eagle 3 up there ASAP."
Leon's eyes widened and Ada readied her Sub Machine gun. "That can't be good."
Leon panicked, "That's a drone..."
They reached their floor and Ada confidently said, "They can be blown out of the air if you're a good enough shot."
As they got out Ada spotted the drone coming down the corridor Ada nudged Leon back into the elevator knowing what was coming. "Eagle three to command, target confirmed."
"Roger eagle three you have a green light."
It opened fire and Ada returned fire with one hand hitting it in mid air dove into the elevator just in time and Leon had hit the button to close the doors.
"Eagle three is down! Need some from the nest!"
"Roger. Sending two and four to the thirteenth. Shoot on sight!"
Just then there was an explosion and the elevator shook violently. Ada cried out as did he and they were thrown against the wall as it started to rock unstably it descended two floors. They were on the 11th floor now. Leon panted, "They're gonna destroy the cables..."
They heard a deafening blast and the elevator dropped another two floors. Ada beckoned to Leon knowing they wouldn't have long. "Give me a boost."
He did and she jumped up from his hand and began to work on getting the elevator top open. She knew they had to fend for themselves this wasn't like any other time being stuck in an elevator where somebody could come along and help. They were the only ones who would get themselves out of this.
She managed to get it open and she got out through the top as the elevator began to descend more. She fired her grapple gun up several floors not bothering to see which one. "Come on!" She held out her other hand and he grabbed it. She lifted him up and the man seemed surprised she could. He got up and the elevator began to drop and Leon had a realization in his eyes that the drop would kill them but luckily he knew to grab onto her. The grapple gun pulled them up as it crashed down below.
They barely had any room to stand so they were dangling. Leon strained to get the doors to the elevator open he gritted his teeth. "Come on...! Open...damn it...!" Finally it did and he grunted and he pulled t open enough for a slender person to get through. She did and she held it open the rest of the way so that he could.
Leon muttered as they got inside, "Next time let's take the stairs."
They investigated the lobby. They made their way past a couple of meeting rooms. A gunshot was fired and Leon and Ada raised their weapons ready to defend themselves. There was a man, a security guard holding the pistol. He looked badly injured. The guy had fair skin platinum blonde hair and blue eyes eyes. He had blood on his uniform. "Hold your fire! We're not zombies!"
The man growled, "No shit! Even as bad as these fucking things out here are...humans are still worse! Looters tried to beat me to death on the way here! Took out a lot of my co workers!" Ada took a glance outside at the window toward the streets below she could not see the streets per say but she could see the fires in the distance. Leon aimed his Glock at the man's head and Ada snapped up her Cross Bow. "Ever been shot by one of these? Not as practical as that .40 you got there but I guarantee it will hurt worse. Slower death too."
The guy growled, "Haven't I been through enough? These fucking things take over and then it's every man for himself looting. I always thought if a doomsday scenario happened, we would all stick together! Now you want to kill me?" Leon answered him, "Calm down. We don't want to kill you but you drew on us first. We're not looters. I'm with the United States Government. If you'll let me reach for my credentials I'll show you."
The man was nervous. He had at least one laceration near his rib cage and he had several cuts and bruises on his face. "Slowly...! No sudden moves..."
Leon agreed to that. He kept one hand on his pistol while reaching for it. He walked slowly up to the man setting his pistol down. It wasn't a smart move and it made Ada nervous but now the guard had his concentration more on Leon than her so if he did try anything she would put a bolt in him. She admired Leon's desire to help people but his better nature was somewhat naive. The man looked at it and asked, "DSO? What's that?" Leon answered him, "Division of Security Operations. You heard of the BSAA, right?"
The man nodded. "Yeah...new kids on the block but they make those Blackwater jerk offs look like rookies,"
"They're not mercenaries they're an anti terror group for the U.N. Kind of what the United Nations forces was supposed to be for so many ears but failed to be."
The man relaxed the gun. "Yeah I heard about them. They were in the news over in China and Edonia, that country that split off from Estonia? Yeah...I heard what was going on over there...some of the shit sounded unreal but I guess it wasn't. I thought every news media outlet suddenly became like the national enquirer. Just making stories up."
Kennedy informed him, "We're the same thing except we're with the United States Government. We're the good guys."
Ada smiled. Oh, Leon, so pure. Always the white knight.
He wasn't sure about Ada. "What about her?"Leon looked at her a moment then back at the man. "Witness in our custody that can help us bring down the people that caused this epidemic," It was a lie at least as far as her being in their custody so maybe more like a half truth. Maybe the handsome blue eyed angel has a touch of the devil in him after all...
The man sat down in an office chair which was next to broken glass from a meeting room window. He was exhausted as well as wounded. "They give witnesses cross bows?" Leon smirked half at her half at the man. "Sh;'s a high maintenance witness. Let's leave it at that. What are you still doing here? They had to have had some evacuation in the city before they issued a quarantine."
The man lit a cigarette. "They did. New York State police, SWAT, National Guard were trying to get as many people out as they could but whatever this is got out of hand. I missed my window so it became about staying alive. Trying to help out my co workers here. As you can see this is a pretty big building."
Leon softly asked him, "Listen we need help with something. I know you probably don't know too much about it seeing as it was kept top secret but..." The guard stopped him. "Don't assume you know what I know right before asking my help. What is it?"
Ada decided to fill him in. Sure he would probably not be of much use in the long run but the survivors of Raccoon City couldn't be responsible for saving everybody else forever. They had done what they had so far in their lives to keep people safe even this man who probably thought he was capable of defending himself but eventually they would need to fend for themselves too. But soon since it was his ass on the line as much as anybody else's he may as well be aware.
"The base where they're creating these bio weapons is underneath this building. There's a secret elevator. Nobody knows where it is or how to get to it but I do know we'll need a key even to get that elevator to work."
The guy looked at her. "Just who the hell are you two?" Leon told him, "I'm Leon, that's Ada. You?" The guy said, "Sasha. Sasha Petrovic. Nice to meet you. Now how do you know so much about this shit going on? I mean I wouldn't think even Uncle Sam has seen this kind of thing before."
Leon explained, "Part of my job to get these things taken care of. Now you know those bloated creatures on the street that release blue gas? Those things didn't just sprout up out of nowhere. Some were dropped in but they're also in an underground lab. That's where these things are being made."
The guy checked his weapon to see how many rounds he had left. "I've got a key to just about every room in here but...I don't have that one. I do know of a key that is kept in this building in a safe. Rumor has it only four people ever knew where it was. I know a thing or two about computers my brother worked for Microsoft out in Seattle he showed me some things. I can try and look through the system's database to see if anything like that exists. One of those people is Anthony Malkin. Everyone's boss but I have no idea where he is nobody's seen him since this started."
Leon asked, "So what can we do?" Sasha walked over to a labtop that had been left on. "Okay I'm going to give it a try here. No promises though. You might try the third floor. There's a janitor down there who managed to survive I think. Hugo. He might have an idea where our esteemed CEO was last."
Leon said, "Okay. I'll go. Ada, you stay here and watch him."
She declined. "No, Leon I have the grapple gun it will take me less time," Leon stepped closer to her. "You're still hurt. We can't risk it."
She told him, "Leon I've gotten us up here and I managed to do that with a concussion. I'll be fine I can take care of myself. Just trust me on this. We faced worse in Lanshiang. I know we keep saying that but it's the truth."
Leon sighed but he said, "Fine but if you do that you're going to keep me posted. Take this," He gave her a head set. "Where did you find this?" He told her, "First floor. A couple of carriers had them. Just let me know if anything goes wrong or if you need my help. I'll find a way to you."
She smiled, "Okay Leon but i think I'll manage."
She made her way back to the elevator and hooked down. Before long she was straining to get the doors open gain but she managed to squeeze through. As she came out she heard groaning. She readied her bow but saw it was not a zombie but a man. An Asian male was slumped against the wall on the other side near an opposite adjacent elevator. He had been shot.
His name tag said H. Gonzales. "Are you Hugo?" The man winced, holding a bloody broken mop handle which had been used to stab somebody. "Who wants to know?" She told him, "I'm here to help. Sasha, are you friends with him? He said you might be able to help me find the owner of the building."
He groaned. "He's on the top floor...observatory deck...last I saw him.."
Ada asked him, "What happened? Who shot you?" Hugo groaned, "Looters. Bunch of assholes that have been terrorizing people all over the city.I hardly have anything worth stealing...but they wanted my cleaning supplies...I did get one of them..."
He beckoned to a corpse laying next to the women's restroom. A piece of the mop handle wood had been jammed into the neck of a gunmen. The man had a pistol next to his body. She took the pistol. It was a 9mm. The dead body had three magazines. Plus six left in the clip already in there. Hugo held a .25 pistol by his side. "I wounded one more...he promised they would be back to finish me..."
Ada asked, "Do you know who these people are? What they want?" It was a stupid question she hated to admit but at the same time, this was clearly beyond just scavenging to stay alive. They cold have gotten his supplies at any store they could have raided and there was a likelihood that unlike gun stores and gas stations they wouldn't have already been raided already.
Ada had first aid spray on her but doubted it would be any use. He had been shot six times and had internal bleeding. It was doubtful she would be able to do much to help. "Is there anything I can do to help you?" The guy suddenly widened his eyes as he heard footsteps and a flashlight filled the mostly darkened room. "They're back! Go!"
A man holding a .357, with a messy brown beard shaggy hair, and a red bandanna which had been used to wrap a head wound on his forehead. "That''s the son of a bitch! The Filipino in the jumpsuit! He killed Wade and shot me!" He fired at Hugo but only had one good arm due to the gunshot wounds. The shot went to Hugo's left and hit next to him. Hugo wildly emptied the last remaining bullets at him. He hit the guy once in the groin and once in the sternum.
The gunmen went down but the man with a flashlight racked a load and fired the blast taking off half of Hugo's face. He spotted Ada and racked another load but she rappelled to the end of the hall before he could fire. A big burly man with red hair, a beard, a winter wool cap, and a denim black jacket went after her firing an M1 at her. "Hey bitch get back here! We want to talk to you!"
Ada pointed her SMG at him and let off a nine round burst hitting him in his massive frame lining up from the bottom button on his jacket to the top of his chin. He went down and she declared, "I don't feel like talking."
She rappelled up several floors and kept going. It wouldn't be safe to try and keep going up all the way to the top that way as the wind would factor in and become a problem. She got to the 7th floor and unloaded on the window. It shattered and she went in just as another shooter came out firing a P90 at her. "Shit! Herbert she's gone!"
Herb, the man with the shotgun spotted his wounded comrade on the ground "I'm gonna be all right Herb...just help me up...!" He said with blood in his mouth. "I know you will, Charlie," He lifted the wounded guy up and said. "I took care of the bastard for you and we're going to find that woman too. She just shot Bear."
Charlie coughed, "T...t...thanks Herbie..." Herb smiled as he reached for his pocket knife out of sight from Charles. "No problem, buddy. It's what we do"
With that he stuck his switch blade into the back of the man's head.
Meanwhile Ada kept climbing up. As she did get up several more floors the doors to an elevator were forced open. Just as she had gotten above that door. A hand reached in and grabbed her leg and jerked her. She cried out thinking she was falling but she was swung through the air and set down in a flash. She still had her weapons thankfully but her grapple gun was hanging in the elevator. She looked to see John. "Don't you have anything better to do? How did you find me?"
He grinned. "Why wouldn't I be able to find my dear Ada? I can smell you, my darling. There is no hiding from me. I am a part of you."
Ada readied some explosive bolts. "You're not a part of me anymore than a scab is once it's gone. It's really pathetic, John, you have the ability to overcome death and yet you're still hung up over a one night stand. You don't know how to get a clue."
She fired one into him and he growled and in a burst of speed through it off of himself it exploded before it got far but he did manage take some of the debris which did injure morphed into his mutated form he had shown before and Ada fired another into him. He growled as it exploded again. She retreated but managed to get her Mac-11 out and let off a burst rounds into his chest.
"Don't worry my love...once you are dead I will end myself so that we can be together! I would never be so selfish as to move on without you! This world has corrupted you my dear..."
Ada saw him charging at her and she was just barely able to dodge the beast as he rushed at her. She fired at him again and this time he began spitting back the rounds at her. She turned over a table in the conference room taking shelter hopping over the broken glass as he sprayed rounds back at her. She stayed low but kept moving along the floor as the rounds got through the table behind her, the only advantage that he could not see where she was.
A few pieces of glass cut her back from behind as the shards fell from his returned bullets. She hissed in pain to try and keep her noise down and not give away where she was. Suddenly a round did get through and hit her in the shoulder. This time she cried out and John knocked the table aside and was upon her. It was about to deliver the death blow when a shot rang out.
Ada saw a red laser shine through the window and she saw it was a BSAA chopper and the sniper on board was firing at the things head. "Get clear we've got this!" He fired another two shots. This got a roar from John who' deformed body seemed to almost collapse or at least was close to it.
Ada sprung upon him as he transformed back into his human form and she began delivering blow after blow hitting him six times as hard as she could with what little strength she had left physically outside of fighting with a gun. She wisely got off him as he began to turn back but the sniper wasted no time firing into him more.
The pilot assured her, "Don't worry! We're with Agent Trapp! He filled us in on everything we're gonna let the rest of our people know. Now I suggest you get off this floor we're about to light this baby up with fireworks! Oh and one more thing take this so you can communicate with any of our other guys on the ground!"
The Sniper tossed her a head set and she caught it, a lucky catch. She nodded. Thanks...
She retreated back to her grapple gun and headed back up. She still didn't have the key yet but she did need to get to the top floor. The attack chopper fired two rockets at John and explosion shook the entire floor as well as several floors up Ada almost lot balance as the shake almost caused her to fall. The blast had weakened John down to his human form again. This time the sniper began to fire as many rounds of the twenty round magazine into the mutated human as he could, rather than beating him.
He reloaded after the fact and John transformed back into his B.O.W form and he began to return fire with the slugs inside him. A seemingly endless storm of 9mm rounds from Ada's weapon came hurting back at the chopper. The sniper took several in the chest but luckily had body armor on however two rounds did get him near the left arm pit. He cried out in pain and staggered as the chopper swerved the pilot and co pilot trying to avoid the bullets.
A sniper slug hit the man in the chin and he fell from the chopper dead before he hit the ground and his Rifle hit the street faster than he did and was decorated with his blood as he hit the ground. The chopper opened fire with its machine guns hitting him with it. "EAT THIS YOU UGLY FREAK!"
Ada could hear the commotion even from within the shaft. The monster once again returned fire and the .50 rounds filled up the cockpit. The pilot was hit with rounds tearing his stomach open and he began to choke on his own blood. The other was wounded as his knees were hit. He howled with agony but tried to maintain control. "Clyde! Hang on...oh shit we're going down! Mayday! Mayday! Taking heavy fire from B.O.W. Buzzard five is going down...I repeat bu..."
The sound of the co pilots distress call was cut off by a deafening crash of metal and steel followed by an explosion, a deafening one that made Ada jerk the head set off her head. She dropped it and as she saw it fall she grunted, "Shit..." She released the rapel line so that she could fall. She was up about fifty floors by now but this would be a set back. She managed to get the head set with one hand as she fell faster than it was and with the other use the rappel to get back up. It caught and she was able to pull herself back up.
As she got up again to around the twenty second floor, she felt the building shake again and two of the doors were mashed in below her. John's massive body poked its way through. She began to go faster making her way up. He began to advance on her fast so she tried to go faster.
She was about five floors above him so she needed to clear more distance or the psycho would have her. "You can't run from me, Ada! There's only us! Why get other people killed trying to save you? Just accept your fate!"
Ada unsnapped the cable again so she could fire up to a higher distance. She rappelled up six more floors and she got to the doors and began to try and pry it open. She cried out as she tried to open it. The pain from her shoulder wound searing through her. She gritted her teeth and let the adrenaline kick in. She gt it open just as John was nearly on her. She let the doors close behind her slamming shut and the beast growled loudly pounding on the doors trying to get them open.
He seemed to get them open pretty easily. Ada reloaded her Mac unsure of what else she could do. It had been easier with Leon, John and David. She let off a burst as he came through but at least she had more of a fighting chance this way than she would if he had came after her in the shaft. She aimed for his face, not sure what to do. She was badly injured, with the concussion and the bullet wound and the glass cuts plus everything else she'd been through.
Suddenly a secondary burst of rounds hit the creature in the back and it distracted John from Ada momentarily. Ada could not see who was doing the shooting but was grateful. She expected it might be David since the chopper had said they were with him. She fired another twelve rounds into it and with her other hand fired the grapple gun letting it pull her a good distance away. Her savior was female and holding an Assault Rifle but she could not see who.
She fired and hit the thing further inflicting damage to its head. It came after the woman now and Ada moved up to see what was going on. She still could not see the woman. It was odd because normally Ada was the one who would be in the shadows but in this instance she didn't mind she just hoped this other person's help would be enough to keep the beast back. She began to move toward the window. Ada then fired another burst letting twenty rounds off. She followed up emptying the rest of it into the creature.
She reloaded and it came charging at her again, ignoring the woman. Ada stood there unwilling to move. Finally as it got close enough, she fired the grapple gun at the ceiling and rappelled up and the thing crashed through the window. The whole way down, all twenty eight floors John roared in anger. Ada turned to her rescuer and as they got closer she saw it was Helena Harper. "Huh. I didn't think you survived that firefight with the New York Police. Thanks for the help."
Helena replied, "Don't mention it. We all got split up a lot of the survivors did but I couldn't find any of you so I kept looking for my partner. You haven't seen her by any chance have you?" Ada shook her head. "Not for a while. It seems like the time is flying by. I don't even know how many days have gone by. I've been in town too long."
Helena agreed, "Ditto. I need to find her I haven't heard from Hunnigan in a while and I think something must have happened. We need to get in touch with her otherwise we I won't be able to carry out my mission. I was going to wait till I could get her on her own to tell her this but Alexander Wesker is priority one. He has to die."
Ada checked to see if any of the other elevators were working normally. To her delight there was. Not all were defunct. Most of the city's power must be running on a backup generator but most of the buildings have lost power due to the destruction by the virus.
Ada replied to Helena, "I don't mind seeing that happen but right now I need to get to the top floor. Need to talk to the owner of this building. I'll explain on the way up. There's a base below ground level. That's my key objective."
Helena asked her, "Just out of curiosity who do you work for? Leon mentioned you had worked for a secret organization before but even he didn't know who. Kind of strange the woman he's head over heels for managed to keep that a secret."
Ada smirked as the elevator ascended. "You're not jealous are you? Don't be. We can share him," She was semi kidding but partially serious at least sexuality wise. "No thanks. It's no big deal. We only screwed a couple of times after our last mission. He felt empty because he couldn't get a hold of you plus he was still torn up over the late president. I was taking Debra's death hard so we drowned our sorrows in a bottle of cheap Vodka. I wish him the best. I just hope his faith in you isn't misguided. But even before we had a brief thing I did encourage him to search for you again."
Ada asked, "Why might that be?" Helena said, "Honestly? This world is shitty. I joined the DSO to make a difference but my sister got caught up in the mess. I'm at least partially responsible for Adams;'s death. If Leon can find even a touch of silver at the end of a dark tunnel I say go for it."
Ada sighed. "As for your question I don't work for anybody anymore. I'm disavowed. For now I work for myself and what I know needs to be done. The forces of sanity," As she could see them getting higher up she said, "Let's just get this done. The sooner we destroy this base, even if it destroys this building, the sooner we can at least put a dent in the C virus outbreak."
Helena agreed. "It probably won't stop it all together. We're gonna need backup from HQ and whatever the BSAA brings to the table to stabilize the city but at the very least we can stop the ones trying to throw gas on the what you can get. If I help you destroy this base I need you and Leon to help me get to Sherry. I think she's with Jake Muller and since I haven't heard from either of them they're probably in trouble. It might even be a safe bet to think Wesker might have them."
Ada thought it was strange hearing Wesker's surname and for once having it not be Albert they were referencing. "Fine. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it. If I know Alex there's only a 50/50 chance those two are still alive."
Still better odds than Albert would have given them at least Sherry that is or anybody else but Jake but then Albert might have killed him too had it suited him when he was around. Alex is cold and calculated but he doesn't waste human lives as much. He's about quality over quantity...
Chris
He watched as the hordes passed by as they barreled through in the Humvee. . He carried the Walther rested on his lap, his eyes still on Jessica. "So how exactly did you manage to convince O'Brian that you're not the enemy?"
She smiled. "Dinner and a movie at my place," He looked at her funny and she smiled, "Just kidding. It took just as much to earn his trust back but giving you Irving and eventually Excella was a start. I was in touch with Kirk when they were trying to help all of you. I was sad to hear they didn't make it either."
Grant added from up front. "Just so you know, Jess, Parker will be coming along. He's been flown in by the European branch. He's SOA. I don't want to see any drama between the two of you either."
They had arrived at the Empire State building. From the looks of things the place had gone through serious destruction recently. Chris spotted Parker out front. Parker walked up to Chris and shook his hand. "Chris it is good to see you old friend," He noticed Jessica and his expression changed. "Agent Sharawat."
She sighed, "Look there's bigger things in play here than what's happened between all of us. I really am sorry for what I did but I don't have time to play forgive and forget. All I ask is that we cooperate now. Quint and Kieth have already breeched the premises so they should be up on the thirty third floor. Me and Grant are rendezvousing with them there."
Sheva looked to Chris and said, "She's right partner, we need to find your sister and Jill. You thought they would be here so maybe they are."
Chris double checked his pistol. "I'm with you. Come on," Jessica instructed, "You two can go wherever you want in the building but me and Kevin are headed up to meet Quint and Kieth. If you want to find your sister you may want to try the security cameras. There's monitors all over the building. It's going to be a tough search but if anybody can find her it'll be you."
Chris glared, "I don't need your confidence. You're still on a short leash and if you do end up crossing us again I'll personally put a bullet in your head. I don't have time for games."
Kevin stepped up to Chris, "Look I don't know what your problem is. Agent Sharawat is doing her best to make up for the past. If you can't forgive her then the hell with you. Let me tell you something Chris. You might have once been a great leader and you are one of the original eleven so you have my respect for that and you went above and beyond in India. Did the best you could to help me given the circumstances. You killed Albert Wesker. You're a hero. Scratch that you were a hero. Ever since Edonia you've been nothing but a drunken mess. You lost your team. So what? I lost my wife you don't hear me crying about it. Real men don't talk about their feelings. Soldiers are replaceable. The love of your life isn't. When she died I was shaken but you didn't see me crying in some bar about it. Plus you tracked Ada Wong and the bitch lived?"
Chris retorted, "She didn't A Sniper got her..." He cut him off. "Yeah but you weren't that sniper. You were the captain responsible for his men. You dropped the ball. You fucked up. The least you could have done was avenge her. I read the report. You had her on the age could have shot her but didn't. You let some asshole on a chopper take her out. So you couldn't even take control of your own revenge!"
Redfield coldly replied, "Yeah, you're just a rageaholic too much of a recluse to even talk about it. The only person you do get along with is Jessica. Get a new woman, Grant. You don't know the meaning of loss. I had my moments of weaknes yeah but Piers pulled me out of it. You're a good Sniper and that's about it. My team died in Edonia I could have done more to save them but it was out of my hands. You let your wife die. So maybe I'm not what I used to be but even as an old man well past his prime, at least I didn't let one of my own get killed when I could have stopped it."
Kevin looked like he was ready to fight. Next to Chris he wasn't as good at hand to hand combat. In fact compared to other BSAA agents, he was average. Yet Jessica knew him he was likely to try and shoot or pull a machete on somebody like Chris. Jessica grabbed his arm. "Kevin...it's not worth it. Thank you for defending me but no matter what you or I say, even if I do earn it it's never going to be enough."
She looked at him and said, "Chris I get it. I screwed you and Jill ad Parker over. Put everybody at risk. I accept my responsibility for that. Parker, I'm really sorry for shooting you. Maybe when this is all over I'll let you get a free shot at my leg to make us even but Chris, I know you. Maybe not as long or as well as I would have liked to but I do know you. And I've read the reports of what you've gone through. Kijuju, Edonia, Lanshiang you've been through so much trauma..."
She cleared her throat. "If there was a way you could have forgiven me sometime between Zenobia and Africa maybe I could have earned that but after all you've been through the weight of that, what it takes for you to survive and get through your mission, the weight of all that plus what you and me went through, I know too much has happened. It's okay. I understand. Your team mates died and that sucks. So the thing you can do now is find Claire. Even if you can save one person it's enough. Goodbye, Chris. I really do wish you all the best."
She nudged her partner. "Come on, Kev., The best thing we can do is our job. Alex Wesker is still at large. Right now he's America's most wanted."
They got into the elevators and Jessica fllashed Chris a sad but determined smile. Sheva looked at him with her hazel eyes searching his. "You didn't have to be so harsh, Chris.I don't understand what happened between you. You've told me bits and pieces of the story but you never told me the whole thing."
Chris sighed. "I can't Sheva...Parker..would you...?" Parker nodded. He told her everything and spared no details. Sheva looked at Chris then at Parker then at the ground. "I had no idea...I did know what you'd told me about her being Tricell but I didn't know all of the other things like leaving you for dead."
Parker nodded. "For now my friends let's leave the past in the past. Chris, I am going up to the tenth floor. There is a specific computer up there that can give me access to all the monitors in this building. I will search for your sister and will let you both know where she is. Same with Jill and Agent Stone.,"
With that the Italian agent was off too. Chris and Sheva took an elevator of their own a bit later. "Chris, eventually you'll have to forgive her. Not just her but yourself too. I...blamed myself in a lot of ways for my parents death. I knew Umbrella had done it but I never found the exact culprits. Later I blamed myself for the poverty of my uncle. And for what I thought was Alex;s death...they said he'd been lost to the wilds of the land. They had no idea whether it was guerrillas, starvation, the wild or sickness that took him. I didn't share with you...or anybody about the fact that I knew he had looked for me because I was ashamed...there's a lot I didn't tell you...and I promise I will but right now what's important is you forgive your old partner and realize it's not your fault, what happened in Edonia."
Chris chuckled. "You sound just like my sister. God I hope she's all right..."
Just then, Luciani's voice chimed in his ear. "Chris! It's Parker. I am on the tenth floor. I have some news. I am not sure if it's good or bad...I guess you could say i have good news and bad news"
Chris said, "Talk to me, Parker. What'd you find? Was it Claire?" Sheva added, "What's the bad news?" Parker explained, "The bad news is that I have found no signs of Jill or Claire or Josh yet. I am still searching. This doesn't necessarily mean anything bad happened it just means they might not be here yet. At least I hope so."
Chris was impatient but played it cool. "What's the good news?" The response was delayed a moment but he said, "A ghost from your past. On her way via elevator to the top floor,i was able to hack into their system and download the storage data as well as live feed into my PDA. I spotted Ada Wong. She's with some brunette woman I've never seen before. I thought she was dead? You and Grant just had an argument about her in the lobby but this is her. That makes her a target as well. You might just get your revenge after all!"
Chris breathed. "I...I thought she was dead but...I'd heard rumors somehow she wasn't. I thought they were just bullshit but I guess they weren't. I don't see how anybody could survive a sniper bullet and a fall like that. She wasn't infected as far as I know. Are you sure that's Ada Wong? Do you know who the woman is with her?"
"Negative on her accomplice. Probably some Neo Umbrella flunkie she's manipulating. But I am sure that is her my friend. I have seen surveillance photos of Ada Wong from 1998, 2004 and 2012 and 2013. I am 100% positive this is her. What do you want me to do?"
Redfield sighed his mouth dry and his palms sweaty. "Stay where you are keep me posted keep an eye out for Claire and Jill if you can. From what I heard on the ride over here HQ is saying Alex Wesker caused this outbreak so he's our number one target but if Ada Wong is right in our grasps then it's time to settle unfinished business once and for all. She has to pay. Not just for my old team but for Piers. If she hadn't released that beast to try and destroy everything, Piers would have never infected himself. Thanks, Parker. Can you do me one more favor? Once we get to that floor I need you to shit down the elevators so she can't go anywhere. At least until she's dead or in custody."
He paused a moment and then said, "Knowing her the way I've encountered her so far, it's probably going to be he first option."
Parker said, "I'll do my best. I have hacking skills but I am no miracle worker. I may not even be able to get that far but it's worth a shot. Either way I know you will finish this for good. Chris, Sheva good luck."
With that they changed course of where they would go to. Because of the size of how big the building was his elevator would only carry them up to a certain floor and then from that floor they would have to take another. There were a total of 82 elevators.
"Sheva, some of that forgiveness will come from redemption and vengeance. Only this isn't just personal revenge for me. This is about justice. Maybe the two are one and the same for once but she doesn't deserve to live."
Sheva softly brushed his arm with her hand. "I wish I could have been there with you that day. Maybe I could have made a difference, "Chris sadly smiled, "The way things went that day as much as I admire and trust you, I'm glad you weren't. Jill too. Anyway, are you with me?"
She nodded. "Always," Readying her weapon as the elevator climbed floor after floor.
Leon won't be happy about this..but I only saw him once in China.l.. I don't think he understands the full ramifications of what Ada did. Claire old me he loved Ada more than her and maybe that's why he defended her before but now it's time to pay the piper. She's had enough chances to do the right thing.
Billy
Colonel Henderson stood in front of Billy and Reggie. "You two were outstanding in the line of duty. Both of you. I'm going to recommend the two of you for the congressional medal of honor. This is a bit unusual but given the fragility of the situation and the fact that we need you boys out there cleaning up the streets of New York ASAP, we'll make an exception. You've already been debriefed now before we do brief you for your next mission, General Reagan is coming by for the brief as well. You should be proud."
Reggie smiled and saluted. "Yes sir! It's an honor," Billy asked, "General Reagan? Is he new? He got a flushed feeling in his chest. "Yeah he just got promoted but given his experience he's earned it."
Billy asked, "Permission to speak freely, sir?" The superior nodded. "Speak your piece, son," "How come I've never heard of him before?"
The older man grinned, "Ah he was lower on the radar. None of the heroics you boys pulled off but he did oversee a god awful fucking mess in the Horn of Africa and was of great assistance to Petraeus. Had command of a lot of spec ops teams. Sam Reagan. Commanded the Dunell base back in the 90's."
Billy maintained a poker face but his heart dropped and he felt fury. Uncle Sam Reagan. That son of a bitch had me court martialed and sentenced to death...
That's all for this chapter, people. I hope you enjoyed it. I myself ave never been to the empire state building so if anybody has please tell me if any of the way I've described it is off if so forgive me im goin mostly off google lol. I live on the west coast but we have tall buildings out here too and in places with 100 + floors, you often would have to catch a 2nd elevator so im assuming the same with Empire State building.
Even though I've never been to NY, the homeland known to us as Kanien'ke (Land of the flint while we are people of the flint) my people did build the building when all others were too scared of the heights so I thought it would be a perfect landmark of NYC to have be a setting in the middle of a zombie outbreak.
As for Jessica, I'm not trying to make her OOC it's just that even though she did betray the BSAA, there still was decent qualities to her i mean there was points in game where she helped all though the AI was kind of shit in that game maybe even worse than 5 but against those Hunters as Parker she helped keep me alive. I wanted to give her more depth besides even if most fanfiction writers were to write something that was ooc what if a game comes out and their interpretation of a character was closer than you think? You never know...
Doug is a character from Desperate Escape only a couple members of Josh's team are mentioned by name so I decided to characterize some of the rest of Delta Team who had Chris and Sheva's back against the majinis.
Also, what do you think it is that Sheva is hiding from her past as being a cousin of Alex Wesker as well as her days in the Sudanese Peoples Liberation Army and his in the Lord;'s Resistance Army?
Do you think Chris will end up killing Ada? Anyway i hope you will all forgive my typos i really will try and go back through and edit i just haven't had time im looking for a new job. Anyway, niawen for the reviews but to you guest reviewers please review every chapter or at least let me know who much you've read it kind of throws me off. Okay it is 1:54 AM on the west coast. Time for me to get off.
Hope you enjoyed will try to update ASAP but hopefully for a while i can take a bit to relax and try and beat Dead Rising and beat Assassins Creed III over again which by the way i may write a fanfic for that too if anybody is interested. Ratonhnhaké:ton to me is the best video game character ever
Called the Bloodline. Also should have another Rez Eve story so. Also if you like comedy check out my Jill Sandwich parody.
