Rebecca

Rebbecca looked down at the dead BSAA agent. Barry sighed. "With all the shit that's happening I don't think i'm going to be able to get them to to pick Eddie up here any time soon. There's just way too much carnage for anybody to do that right now. Once the smoke is cleared we'll be able to do get our fallen brothers a final resting place. Once the mission is over."

He sighed. "Poor guy. It never is easy watching younger agents die. You keep hoping they'll survive as long as we do and many of them do outlast your average cop or soldier but a lot of them just don't survive."

Natalie stepped up and said, "Yeah..my brother was one of those people. He wasn't BSAA but he lasted a hell of a lot longer than most students would last if they went to another part of the world just as a war was starting. He died for what he believed in and he tried to stop these B.O.W's in his own way. I'm still trying to figure the reason he had to die. He was a good kid."

Barry told her, "I didn't know the boy that well but he seemed to have a decent head on his shoulders. You're right he did go out fighting for what he believed in. I may not agree with him on America but when he was rebelling against the country, or the government whether he knew it or not he was doing exactly what the founding fathers said should be done to make sure the government didn't become tyrants."

Natalie sighed. "I just don't see why mi hermano had to be the one to die. Don't enough people die in wars as it is? Why couldn't he have survived? Jefferson got to survive the war," Barry put a hand on her shoulder. "For all the people that did survive to build this country there's a hell of a lot more who didn't make it. And in those days it was easier to win a rebellion even as hard as it was in their day they had equal weapons. These rebels might have Rifles and rocket launchers but they don't have drones and far as I know they don't have planes or tanks."

Just then the elevators emerged and they saw Quint carrying a wounded Raul. "He's been shot...some guy had me bring him in here...by the way...there's some kind of old creature Umbrella made that they brought back."

The man groaned, "Soldier...saved me from the Thing. Took my team out..."

Barry unstrapped his vest getting to the man's wounds Rebcca having roll up pant leg and she began to clean and dress the wounds. She thought she might try and remove the bullets but it seemed way too risky. She considered attempting it but if she did she would need equipment for her to attempt to operate. The truth was due to her medical background before she joined the BSAA she had studied to become a surgeon and had become one briefly in the time between S.T.A.R.S. and the BSAA. She had done a few surgeries about five. Two had been failures one had died in surgery and one had died in had only bought the person some time before they died eventually anyway.

She had been distraught and had been unable to cope with that. When they died she had quit. She didn't want to be a doctor anymore and she felt her talents were best used just as a medic somebody to keep them alive but she wasn't a surgeon. Except now she needed to be

The elevator doors opened and Barry asked Rebecca, "Can you go and check that out? Me and the others have to finish up here. Make sure this floor is secure."

She nodded. "Ye sir..." Her pistol in hand she carefully hugged the wall toward the corner. She didn't know who it was but since they had pretty much been behind all of this more so than Neo Umbrella she prepared for the chance it was one of their assassins. She came around the corner her pistol aimed for the head. "Drop your weapon!" She called to the dark silhouette. "Rebecca?"

She lowered her gun. "Billy!" She went forward hugging the tired looking Marine. He wrapped his arms around her too. "Rebecca...listen i have something I need to tell you...we're all in danger. The president...he said that if the armed forces, the police, the BSAA can't put a lid on this outbreak they're going to nuke the place. We have to tell as many people as possible."

Her eyes widened.. "How long do we have left?" He looked at her with a weariness. "Less than thirty two hours...I'm sorry Becca...I didn't plan on any of this and I'm going to do what I can to stop it."

She sighed. "Follow me. I have to tell Barry about this. He needs to know."

She had him follow her and she approached Barry saying, "Captain, we have a problem. The US government is going to launch a missile into the city if we can't put a lid on this outrbreak. We have less than thirty two hours," Barry looked at her in shock. "What are you talking about? They're going to try to blow the city up?" Billy confirmed this. "Yeah. They've given us a little time but it's true."

Barry said, "What the hell? I just saw a broadcast not too long ago that said we still had 72 hours!" Billy said, "That broadcoast is probably from when there was still 72 hours left. I don't know what kind of stunt they're pulling with the tv channels but something fishy is going on here."

Barry contacted HQ. "O'Brian! This is Captain Burton. Delta team. I just heard from one of my agents that the US government is planning on a missile strike if we're unable to contain the outbreak. Why wasn't I informed of this?"

"Look I understand and appreciate your situation down there. I've damn near had a heart attack over it myself but we're having our agents do what they can. I don't control what the president chooses to share with the people...but we can't have the SOU distracted from their objective. To eradicate the B.O.W.'s and we don't want to have them having an imminent destruction distracting them from their mission."

Barry was angered by this statement. "Don't you think our agents in the field would do a much better job if they knew exactly what was at stake here?" O'Brian explained, "My hands are tied, Barry. The same information available to citizens all over the country should be available to all of you. The president is making his statement about the outbreak in New York."

The director said, "Look, Captain just keep your mind on your mission and let saving the city be your incentive. Whatever does end up happening I can promise you this. You, your team and any other SOU agents that are still alive will get a helicopter out of the city no matter what. Even if the city is destroyed. Something has to be a reward for you all putting your lives on the line."

He asked, "One more thing. Why is it I'm hearing from a Marine that we have 32 hours when I saw on TV that it said 72 hours?" "I'm sorry to say, Captain, that was forty hours ago.A lot of media is being censored right now to avoid panic outside of the city but the PR damage may be done already to where we can't fix it. You're just going to have to do your damndest to get it done. The presidents speech is allover the place and anywhere else but New York people are still getting current updates on the situation as much as we can."

"Why? I don't understand."

"The reason is that even if by some way New Yorkers see the broadcast got the 72 hours and they started to panic it's better if they think they have longer than they do. This way they'd hopefully stay put and wait for help to arrive. Thirty two hours is still plenty of time to get a lot done. But in case we can't et it down the idea was to keep as many people in the city so that the quarantine works and that if the nuclear blast becomes the last option, the threat would stay in the city. If people try to break past the military check points and barriers there's too great a risk that the infected would soon follow."

As they broke contact Barry pounded his fist on a nearby table. "Damn it!"

A voice sounded in the room catching them off guard. "It wouldn't have mattered if they were looking at a tv right now. I hacked into the computer of a dead reporter five minutes ago...that speech you're talking about was broadcast all over the country but locally it's being covered up."

Natalie aimed her Rifle at the voice and said, "This woman is the bio terrorist known as Ada Wong.. we have to take her in or kill her," Barry shook his head. "You didn't hear Chris when we ran into him? He told me the truth about Ada and the Chinese outbreak. So lower your weapon. But that still is no reason to trust her,"

Ada told him, "Fine...don't listen to what I have to say. But if what your boss said is wrong about getting agents on a flight out of the city or in case some of them miss their flight, that'll be your own fault. For refusing to listen."

Rebecca asked her, "Let's say we believed you. Why would they keep the presidents speech under wraps in the city? What's the point of that?" Ada explained, "If the people here, whether they're people that did what the emergency broadcast said and stayed in doors or whether they're surviving trying to find a way out or to hold out until the relief comes, if they knew the plan was to destroy the city they would try and leave now. Even those without any guns would try and take out the military check points because it makes more sense to try even if you fail than to stay and wait to die. If by some chance they did get through the barriers the virus would get onto the freeways and move all over the state and then eventually the country. That would make blowing up the city useless."

Rebecca turned to Billy, "How did you see it if it's not on the regular broadcast?" Billy explained, "Special military channel. Can't get it if you don't have our gear. You have to be one of us. I didn't think that was a limited broadcast though I thought it was playing everywhere."

Barry eyed Ada. "What is it you want? Weren't you talking to Chris? He mentioned a secret lab in the building before him and his partner went to find it. Did you or they find it?" Ada nodded telling him exactly where it was. "We should get to the lab. I don't know if destroying it will be enough to save this city but it should be good enough to put a dent in it."

Barry turned to Agent Bates. "Have you seen Agent Suzuki? We need to get moving," The African American agent said, "Shes doing a perimeter check to make sure the rest of the floor is secure," Rebecca had a lot of respect for Yoko. She was a survivor of the Raccoon City incident too. Much like Carlos Oliviera, she had started out with Umbrella but had joined the good side. Many of the other seven survivors who had escaped Raccoon with Yoko were dead the majority of them with only a few remaining.

"Yoko, it's Captain Burton. We need to move. We're done with this floor we need to head to the first. We might have a chance at helping make everything that much easier."

Barry relayed the message of what Billy had told Rebecca. Chambers turned to Billy. "I didn't get a chance to ask really...how have you been holding up all these years? I would have thought you would have given up the Corps. Why continue to fight for the Marines?"

He sighed. "I don't know. I hated them for years after what happened but under my new identity...I was able to tell some of the horrors of what I went through to a therapist...I mean I obviously had to change up the name of where it happened but...still. She helped me realize that it was individuals that screwed me over. It wasn't the entire United States Marine Corps. I guess I wanted to in a way..."

Her eyes fixed on him. "What?"

He said, "I wanted to be able to maybe infiltrate it. I mean I still believe in everything to do with the Marines. But maybe if I fought long enough made a big enough impression, did it all over again, I'd have the chance to find any of the survivors. See them brought to justice."

She asked, "When you say brought to justice do you mean by your own hands or do you mean military court?" Billy chuckled. "Hang on, princess. You're not a cop anymore. You're BSAA. No need to give me the third degree. Besides, I do want to see them put on death row. I've...been trying to get my hands on evidence anything related to that day I was framed for. They deserve a death sentence but if I can't find it, I'll have no other choice but to take it int my own hands."

She was curious. "Your hands? Is there anybody left still alive?" He was reluctant. She lead him to a spot out of ear shot of the other members of the beaten and weary Delta Team. "Tell me, Billy. I know it's been a long time but I'm still your friend."

He grinned, "How is it you still look just as cute now as you do back then?" She rolled her eyes. "Oh please. Only cute? Not pretty?" He stammered, "I meant..." She said, "Don't have kittens I knew what you meant."

Just then barry said, "Rebecca! I need to hold down the fort here. For now. I'm going to see if Ada or Leon reappear. Yoko is in danger. She's encountered a B.O.W. She'll be near the stairwell to the east. She's not answering me."

Rebecca nodded. "Leave it to me."

She looked at Billy and said, "I'll help you any way I can to get this guy, Reagan. The legal way or your way. For your freedom and the lives of those twenty three people. Will you help me here first?"

Billy nodded. "You can count on me, doll. Let's move."

Steve

He charged into the older man throwing a hard punch hitting him in the jaw. He followed up with a jab to the gut. Wesker caught his next punch and hit him back, the blow dazing Steve. He staggered back and Albert charged into him forcing him against the wall and he hit Steve in the abdomen. He sped forward putting his fist into his stomach in a heart beat. He tossed Steve the other way almost as soon as he hit the wall which had cracked the wall. He picked him up by the throat and tossed Steve towards the fridge. He hit his head hard and the thing collapsed on him. Wesker then jumped on top of it putting his weight into the thing.

Steve collapsed and Wesker grabbed him. "After everything I've done for you...this is how I'm repaid..."

He screamed, "You never did anything for me! All you did was make me your fuckin slave! All you did was have me kill people! It would have been better if you left me dead! None of those people i killed deserved what I did to them...none of them! You bastard!" He head butted Wesker and caught him off guard. The man's appearance was not that of Albert Wesker's but he could sense it was him.

"You owe me...fifteen years...you bastard!" Steve transformed his skin turning green. Albert laughed. His voice somehow was very much the same. Then again maybe Steve heard him different than a normal human would. After all they both had a variant of the virus in them. "So maybe I spared you some of the gruesome details of your past. You have to understand, Steven. Your mind was fragile. You were hard to control. We needed you to be human at your core. What good would you be as a mindless beast? Your sanity would have snapped had I told you the truth right away."

Steve looked at him and screamed, "That's bullshit! You have no idea what would have happened. You never valued me. I was just another one of your test subjects. Up to this point everybody that's been infected with the virus and had a free will has been a sociopath like you but I'm free of the P30 and I'm not going down so easily. You may have turned me into a mutant but I'm still a human!"

Wesker charged at him. He hit Steve with a blinding punch. Steve got on his feet. He swung his fist into the older man. "You're not capable of defeating me Steve. Even if you weren't at half speed in your larger Tyrant form and at half strength now, even if you were equal to me in power you don't have the skills of a soldier. You don't have the will of a god. There is still time to teach you if you see the error of your ways. I may even let you have Claire. Chris will die but there is no reason she has to."

Steve glared. "All because of the brainwashing you did and because of Alex you got brought back! Now you're wearing some other poor bastards meat suit. Is there no end to the lives you destroy?"

Wesker smirked. "This is none other than the partner of Chris Redfield. This wouldn't have been my first choice but it seems Alex Wesker has not forgotten my taste in vengeance. He knows me almost as well as I know myself. Oh the pain it will cause Chris to see his worst enemy controlling the body of his biggest failure! I am in complete control but I have all of his memories. It's one thing to fail to save his team from the J'avo. But he was not even able to save a man with these capabilities. A man who saved Chris and was more capable of saving him than the other way around."

Steve spat blood. "I don't care if I have to die for good and even if every other Raccoon City survivor dies...even Claire there's no way we're going to let you take over and rule the world. We'll all die if that's what it takes to bring you down!" Albert's eyes glowed like fire. "What a shame. You have such potential and choose to throw it away over petty human sentimentality. What is so great about the way the world is?"

Steve grabbed a vase and said, "As long as you're in it? Nothing..." He charged at Wesker who prepared to grab the vase or at least intercept it before he could hit him but Steve appeared behind him and swung the vase smashing it over his head. Blood ran down the man's forehead. Steve chased him hitting him three more times intent on wounding him more but Wesker caught his arm. He broke it in a simple twist in three places. Steve cried out in pain. Wesker punched him in the gut as he dropped to one knee. He grabbed Steve by the face. "I am not a cruel God. I am not unreasonable. I am simply punishing a disobedient child. We can't have insubordination."

He grabbed him by the face forcing him to his feet only to him him again. "Of course you and I are beings of a higher caliber so punishment must be more severe. It would be a waste to kill you after all the time and resources I used to bring you back. But you will submit if you hope to have any easy time with the remainder of your life. Otherwise i'll put the p30 back on you and disobedience will not be an issue."

Steve began to transform into his tyrant self and he charged into him throwing a blow at Wesker's abdomen sending him flying and Wesker slammed into the entertainment stand and the radio's electricity zapped Wesker. Steve punched through the wall ripping the interior grabbing a pipe from inside the wall ripping it as if it weighed nothing. He hit Wesker in the face with it. He grunted his teeth gritting and Steve hit him again and again. Wesker grabbed the pipe and electricity surged from his hands zapping Steve. The tyrant screamed as he started to feel electricity. The electrocution began to intensify and Steve staggered as Wesker kept hitting him with more jolts.

He dropped to his knees. Steve was temporarily weakened but he wouldn't be down for long. He tried to get back up but Albert blasted him with more electricity. Steve fell screaming before it had been in rage now it was just pain. He cried out and he began to change back to his smaller self but still his skin was green. Until Albert kept blasting him. He returned to his human form but all though he stopped shocking him he grabbed the pipe Steve had used on him. "Father...please...!" He said trying to temporarily trick him. Albert was firm. "Spare the rod...spoil the child."

He hit Steve over the head and continued to bludgeon him. He dragged him into the elevator and hit him again and again cracking his head open. "I warned you about what happens to those who resist me. You would not listen," He hit the button and the elevator began to take him to the underground lab. Steve's head was bleeding badly. "Where...why are we going down here...?"

Albert chuckled. "We are not going anywhere. I am going down there to deal with the thorn in my side that has been a nuisance since 1998. You will be left as an example of what happens to those who defy a God among men. Or rather your carcass will be. Your rotting corpse will be a reminder to Claire that there is no opposing me and perhaps that if she truly loved you she would have stayed to help you fight me..."

With that he began to beat Steve with the pipe hitting him in the abdomen to cause internal bleeding. Steve felt his ribs crack. He heard them even... "Ahhhh...! You said...you wouldn't kill me...!"

Wesker kicked him in the side and Steve thudded into the side of the elevator. "That I did. However it has occurred to me that my true son is still out there. He needs me. He is lost. He has been ever since the death of his dear mother. You are not so different you and he. Both had lost their father and mother. I tried to be there for you. A replacement for what you lost. Your messiah and how am I repaid? Betrayal and ingratitude. Jake will be different. Unlike you, he is my flesh and blood. He may have never known me nor I him and so there was no need for him to avenge me. I do not deny my lack of absence in his life. But I would have helped him. If I had only been able to reach his mother, had I known sooner that i had a child I could have prevented her death. My own untimely demise came in an instant at the pull of a trigger. Chris by the rules of war had every right to try and kill me. We are enemies. But he also forced young Jacob to watch his own mother rot away from the inside. You might see me as a monster but not even i could ever subject somebody to so cruel a fate. As much as I believed I deserve revenge on Chris...it would seem that right has now passed onto my only true son. As his father I will still help him find it."

Steve coughed up blood spitting it on the floor and Wesker hit him again in the face. "You mean...you didn't know about your son...? Yet you call yourself a God...some god..."

Wesker hit him hard again and Steve's ears rang, his vision blurred feeling blood pouring down his face. "Chronos was not aware of Zeus either. Rhea failed to let him know who he was so he did not know who he was."

Steve cackled his teeth red with blood. "You stupid shit...! I was in High School when I died...and even i know Greek mythology better than you do! Chronos was a titan and he wanted to eat Zeus. She hid him from him for his own protection. Then Zeus rose up and defeated the bastard. The gods of Olympus took over. So maybe if there is no Go, Jake can be one. But you...you're just a wannabe."

Wesker growled in anger and hit him again and this time everything went black.

He tossed his carcass into the hall as the doors open. Steve's face was cut up and his skull cracked open. Wesker stood over him. He brought his boot down on his face. As Steve's consciousness began to fade, he thought to himselfAs long as Claire lives...and somebody kills Wesker...It's worth it. I love you Claire...forever...

Panting, the Project W survivor looked down at the bloodied, deformed face of his adopted son. "Perhaps I never should have brought you back after all..."

He continued to bludgeon the young man again and again. Normally a mere beating would not kill somebody such as Steve who had power to regenerate wounds from gunshots and even other B.O.W's. But Wesker was powerful and capable of dealing deadly blows so severe that even the power of Steve's viral abilities would not be able to fix it. He hit him ten more times and then dropped the now useless pipe aside.

He grinned.I would hate to think of what would happen if I ever fought somebody equal to my capabilities.

"Farewell Steve. I did what I could to make you into a respectable example of evolution's next stage but you couldn't see past your own desire. I kept my promise to Claire too. You did return to see her one day just as I have Chris. But that is over now."

Meanwhile

So far Claire had not found anything of interest in the three rooms she had searched. Just a bunch of documents and memos on test subjects and their various changes in symptoms. She heard a loud thud outside. She readied her grenade launcher her hand on the door, her heart beating. Was it a B.O.W.? She had taken down five since taking the elevators. She hoped Steve would get down there soon. She carefully quietly exited the room through the door and stepped down the hall turning the corner. She finally risked it expecting to see a B.O.W. but instead she found only a broken and mangled, bloody body on the floor. She almost didn't recognize it at first. But upon looking at it again..."Steve!"

She ran to his side. The culprit who could only be one person was nowhere in sight. She cradled his head in her arms not caring about the blood she got on herself. "Steve...please weak up...I can't lose you again..." She checked him for a pulse. She wasn't sure if that would work since he was only a live through the virus in the first place but it had to. Even the virus itself really just reanimated the bodies functions. She felt no pulse. She checked to see if he was breathing. He was not. She began to try CPR on him pumping her hands on his chest with all her weight since he was a lot stronger with the virus she wouldn't have to worry about crushing his rib cage.

Tears ran down her cheeks and she tried to fight them but it was no use. Her chest heaved and sobbed. She buried her face in his chest, weeping. "..Steve..." She cried loud as she had the first time she lost him, the pain in her heart no less severe. She knew there was a lot at stake outside but she didn't want to leave him. She wanted to stay with him. She wanted to lay down and close her eyes and not wake up. To be with him.

Her eyes and her cheeks were as soaked with tears as he was with blood. She took the bloody doctor jacket off and wiped off as much of his face. It was still beaten and still bleeding but it wasn't as bad. She gave him a kiss as part of a farewell and tried to stand up but she couldn't. She had already lost him once and to lose him again was too much. She sobbed into his chest again, her eyes red with tears, his body still somewhat warm. She remembered her pistol and grabbed it and closed her eyes, wrapping her arms around him. She knew it was no light choice and she knew Chris would be devastated but she was devestated herself. She loved Steve. Maybe in a way she had Leon too but he had Ada now.

She kept her face buried in his chest so that everything was black but she pressed the pistol to her temple, her hands shaking her whole body trembling. "I love you...i'm coming Steve...I'm not leaving you behind again..."

Slowly her finger found the trigger.

Sorry i had to end this on a sad note. So i referenced a little Greek mythology there. I had to look up what happens to Chronos and I didn't want to have God of War be my basis for what I would have Steve say. What do you think of what happened to Steve? What's your stance and do you think Claire will go through with what she is planning on?

Also sorry to cut the Billy and Rebecca scene short but then this is a short chapter anyway i wanted to put something more out there so you don't forget about it i had more i wanted to put in this chapter like Ada and Helena getting back to Leon also I need to fill out what happened with Chris, Jill and Sheva and what they are currently doing in the lab and will they run into Wesker any time soon? Also how do you think Jake will hold up at Rikers Island? Plus Sherry among so many convicts plus the infected?

You might say what Steve did fighting Wesker and having Claire go ahead of him was somewhat of a sacrifice because even if he didn't know for sure he would die he didn't know if he could take Wesker or not either. I did the scene with Claire weeping i wanted it to be somewhat like Code Veronica because i already liked Claire as a character but seeing her cry made her more realistic to me and i liked her even more for some reason so I had to have this be like that even the same in what happened to Steve but different this time i mean obviously losing him once but then having him come back from the dead was hard on her but having to expirience it twice? There's only so much th heart can take. I aint gonna reveal what Claire does until the next chapter and I never have and never will announce which good characters will die but as i told some of my closest reviewers at least five or six good characters will die i mean it says character death in the summary. I guess withholding who dies and who lives is meant to cause you some anxiety hopefully like it would in a movie.

If on a scale of one to ten you hate Wesker at a ten i have done my job. Or even if close to that. If not well...not everybody is the same in taste for stories. I do my best.

Any who till next time. Skennen.
