Sting lied on his bed. His eyes stared to the ceiling. His mind went back to his conversation with Rouge when his bestfriend fetched him at the train station. Things he had realized it long ago, but he chose to forget.
-Flashback to the train station-
We walked back to our guild. Like we used to. We rarely took transport to ride home. Rouge came with his cat to fetch me. Seemingly, they had waited for us for quite some times. And, both of them were quiet. Awfully quiet. Rouge wasn't talkative, but that evening, he was as if, spacing out.
"I think you noticed..." He has the talent of reading my mind. I thought. "That girl is weird." I was wondering at first which girl he was talking about. "...that girlfriend of yours," he added.
I didn't quickly answer. Because I didn't sure if 'weird' is the right word to describe her.
"She's like a...magnet. Toward accidents." I thought so before.
Rouge was quiet and observant. I didn't surprise when he talked about it. But, usually he just ignore it. However, when he chose to talk about it, there must be something interested him. But, why Lisanna caught his eyes?
I felt a bit of turmoil in my stomach when I thought of Rouge had been thinking about her.
"She always caught in trouble," the shadow mage continued, not waiting for my reply. "And lately, she was hit quite hard. Might risk her life."
I really wanted to ask him why he was so interested in Lisanna. She is my girlfriend. Officially. But, I think there were more in his mind he didn't speak.
"Yeah, she's clumsy." I decided to reply after he turned silent.
I saw him nodded lightly. He was still thinking about that matter. About Lisanna.
I was about to say something, but Rouge spoke first.
"She is your magnet too," he said.
"My what?" I didn't quite get it why he said so.
"Our mission with the soul eater almost cost her her life. When she survived, you said she lost all your memories. But you still met each other after that." He stopped, not turning to me. "Those were coincidence. Right?" He continued his walk.
Yeah, no doubt about that. But...
"Yeah, why?" There was a huge gap of silence. "You think I followed her?" I asked.
"That's why I said she's your magnet. No matter where'd you go, you still met each other. Whether it's planned or coincidence."
I still couldn't understand what he was trying to imply. And why he called her 'weird'.
"But, wherever she goes, she'll get injured. And lately, it's getting worse." He stopped again. "It might happen that one day...you cannot save her."
I didn't like what he just said.
"Do you know something I don't know?" I asked. He was acting all weird. I thought, he was the one weird, not Lisanna.
Rouge glanced at his bestfriend before walk again.
"No, I don't. But I think there's something wrong with your relationship."
He left me with tons of questions. But that is Rouge. He said what he wanted to say, and ends it the way he wanted.
Normal day at Fairy Tail guild. Brawls after brawls. But a bit abnormal was that Natsu decided to not joining any of the non-stop brawls. He just sat at his table, ordered glasses of beer and sipped it once at a time. He just ignored any table or chair or even splashes of beer came at him. He truly decided to not joining the guild. Suddenly, something hard fell on his head, pushed him onto the table and spilled his beer. He growled and snapped, "What the fuck?!"
Lisanna sat next to him smilingly. She rested her heavily plastered hand carefully on the table. Natsu sat back on his chair.
"Sorry that I spilled your beer. I buy you another?" She offered.
"No, I don't need it anymore." He turned on his heels to get some cloths to clean the table. Lisanna just watched and waited for the pissed dragon slayer to come back.
"You don't look good today. Do you have any problem? Want to share with me?" She asked, after he had finished cleaning the table.
"I am completely fine. I don't have any problem. I'm just resting. Okay?" He said.
"Is it me?" She asked more. "...or Lucy?"
Natsu glanced at her before looked away. "I don't know what are you talking about."
"So it's Lucy?" Lisanna giggled. "I thought you still mad at me when Sting brought me home all broken."
"I wish I could kill him. He was supposed to take care of you. Look at you now!" He exhaled roughly. "He was lucky that Laxus was here. If not, I swear I kill him!"
"If Laxus wasn't there, you would kill him?" She asked.
Natsu turned to her.
"I'll kill him," he said.
"You would definitely kill him if you have the chance?" She leaned closer to him.
Natsu leaned a bit to the back, away from the girl. "Y..yes. Definitely."
Lisanna smiled wider. She leaned back to her chair.
"You stuttered. You won't kill him," she said merrily. "I love him. You knew that, so you cannot kill him."
"I don't fucking care about that."
Lisanna turned to him again, rested her cheek on her palm.
"Natsu, do you love me?" She asked.
"Wha...what...I.."
"I love you, Natsu. I love you since we were kids. Remember back then when I told you I wanted to be your wife?"
Natsu turned speechless. His mouth opened but no words came out.
"I meant it." Lisanna looked forward. "I still love you. You're my bestfriend."
Quietly, Natsu exhaled a relief. Love of a friend.
"But I couldn't bear to see my bestfriend hurt," she continued. "You're like an open book to me. I can see right through you. I can see how much you care about Lucy." Natsu kept quiet. "You care about me, about me being together with Sting, but you care more about Lucy. You shouldn't deny that, Natsu." She nudged him playfully. "Honestly, at some point, I hated Lucy." She earned a wide-eyed Natsu. Lisanna chuckled. "Don't worry, it was back then. When I was still in love with you, daydreaming about marrying you."
She leaned to his shoulder.
"It hurts when you love someone who doesn't love you. But it hurts more if that person pretending to care about you but don't return the feeling." She paused. Breathing slowly and carefully. "I know why you pushed Lucy away. Finding your dragon is your ultimate purpose, but..."
"Lisanna..." Natsu tried to interrupt but the girl kept going.
"...sometimes happiness is in front of you. All you should do is grab it. Natsu, you shouldn't let go of your 'happiness' and keep holding on the past. The past is what you should let go, not the present. Your dragon is your past. Lucy is your present."
"Lisanna, you don't understand..."
"I used to believe I cannot love anyone other than you. I already gave my heart to you. So, I gave myself to Fairy Tail. I sworn that I would die for Fairy Tail. This is my family. My life is completed with Fairy Tail. I don't need anything more."
She lifted her head and stared into his eyes. Her smiling face made him nervous.
"Then I found him. Just that then I realised that I had never gave you my heart. I never gave my heart to anyone, till I found him. He whom receives it and takes good care of it."
Natsu moved his eyes away from hers.
"We know who rightfully to receive our heart. The one who can take a very good care of our heart. You just afraid, Natsu."
"I'm not afraid of anything..." He snapped.
"You afraid that you might forget your dragon once you accept Lucy into your life. Remember this, Lucy is not a replacement. She is an addition. A gift to you. A gift given to you is not meant to replace anything. It is meant to make your life even more beautiful."
Natsu stared to the table. His tense muscles slowly relaxed.
"Go..." She nudged him. "She never doubt you. And you shouldn't too."
Natsu slowly turned to his bestfriend. Her face had been staring at him with the wide curve on her lips. A smile slowly appeared on his face. She nodded at him, hinte him to grab his 'gift of life'. Natsu jumped on his feet and ran out of the guild. And Lisanna remained at the table. Feeling satisfied.
"Finally, my Natsu has grown up," she whispered to no one.
