CHAPTER 44
Sting stared at the short-haired girl in front of him. She was screaming and jumping cheerfully when she hit the main prize at the shot-and-win stall. The hawker gave her a life-sized teddy bear for winning the game. She looked so happy. She even hugged him and kissed him on his cheek. Should he feel jealous? That wasn't the case now. He wondered why she was so happy. The most importantly, how she could be so happy?
I want to have a one last date with you this weekend. It will be best memory between us. See you this weekend.
Love, Lisanna.
He received her letter a few days before, and she refused to see him till the weekend. And of course those freaking fairies would be overreacted. When he asked her about the letter, she only said, "I'll tell you tomorrow. For now, let's enjoy as much as we can." And she truly enjoyed her times.
She pulled him into a costume store. She was so excited and quickly disappeared into the store. While waiting for her, he looked around. He put a roman soldier helmet and searched for a mirror.
"Tadaaa!" Her laughing voice caught his attention.
She appeared with a red afro on her head and a round red nose replacing her real one. He couldn't help but laugh too.
They kept on switching the costume and running around the store. Sting took on a brown bear costume while Lisanna took on a white Greek maiden dress. Then he chased her across the store while she ran screaming for help.
"Oh my princess, kiss me so that I can turn back into a prince," he said in a frog costume.
"But I am not a princess. As you can see…" she shook her leaves, "…I'm a tree." Then they laughed out loud.
Before long, they were thrown out by the store owner for making too much mess.
Then, they walked along the road, searching for something else to do. She had his hand in her hand and her other hand dragged the teddy bear that she won. Suddenly, she stopped in front of a boutique.
Sting looked around at the boutique while Lisanna disappeared into a dressing room. All dresses were white and neatly arranged on the shelves. Reminded him to one of the competition at the Grand Magic Games.
"Hey!" he turned to the voice.
Lisanna stood before him, shyly. In a strapless white gown with a big bow covering her chest. White lace lining the fabric of the same colour nicely hugs her waist. The gown went down covering her feet.
"How do I look?" she asked, turned around slowly and awkwardly in front of him.
He became speechless. His mouth opened but he couldn't speak any word. He stepped toward her. His eyes kept praising how beautiful she was.
"I don't know how you looked at the Grand Magic Games, but…" He inhaled deeply. "What I've done? You look so beautiful." His eyes watered.
Lisanna looked down shyly to their intertwined hands. When he touched her face, she looked at him in the eyes.
"You're so beautiful. I love you, Lisanna Strauss." They rested their forehead on each other. "I love you," he repeated.
"I love you too, Sting Eucliffe," she whispered back.
He couldn't help but feel so happy. He was so grateful that he had her in his life.
"Let's take a picture," she suggested.
Before he could answer, she quickly asked the store assistant to pick him a suit. Then she pushed him into the dressing room and warned him not to take much time.
Not long after that, he came out of the dressing room. He wore a black suit with a white shirt and a black bow tie. The black leather shoes that the store assistant provided fit him perfectly. He felt awkward when she stared at him long. The store assistant helped putting a veil on her head but it didn't move her eyes from him. She only turned away when the store assistant invited them to the photography studio.
"I feel like I want to marry you now," she said, wrapped her arm around his. He chuckled.
At first, the photographer asked them stood straight and their faces faced the camera. After a few takes, he asked them to talk to each other and he would take some candid photos.
"You make me feel ugly," the dragon slayer said.
Lisanna chuckled.
"I'm sorry if you feel that way, but I think you're so handsome today," she assured.
"Today? Only today?" he asked.
"You're the most handsome man in my world," she answered.
"Really?" he doubted. She nodded smilingly.
"Marry me," he said, looked straight into her eyes.
She smiled wider. She stood on her toes and kissed his nose. Not answering his question. He then hugged her and kissed her deeply.
"I love you," he said. And she replied, "I know."
They asked to change and wait for the photographer to process their photos. Sting was wearing his shoes when Lisanna came out of the dressing room.
"Next, we'll go eat, okay?" she asked, took a seat next to him. He smirked.
"I thought you're going to play all day." She laughed and whined how hungry she was.
The store assistant came back to give them their photos. Lisanna kept looking at them while leaving the boutique.
"Aw, we looked so beautiful," she said.
"Of course we are," he replied, wrapped his arm around her neck and kissed her head.
Not far from them, in the bushes, few pairs of eyes were watching the lovebirds quietly.
"Are they planning on getting married?" one voice asked.
"Dunno," another replied.
Lisanna yawned for the thousandth time. She snuggled closer into her boyfriend's arm.
"Are you mad at me?" she asked.
"Very," he answered short.
He kissed on her head. Honestly, yes, he was mad. Very mad. From the moment he received that letter from her and all through the day they spent together. But she promised that she would tell him everything tomorrow. Watching her so happy today, he wasn't sure if the breaking up issue was real. Deeply he prayed that she was just joking. He hugged her tightly as they drifted into sleep.
Lisanna pulled the dragon slayer followed her merry footsteps out of the restaurant. They just finished ate their breakfast and she was already hyped up for next activity. However, her steps died when he pulled her to stop.
"You owe me an explanation," he said, watched her unmoving back. His hand held her tightly enough to prevent her escapes.
"Sting…"
"You promised that you'll tell me everything today," he demanded.
Lisanna slowly turned around and faced him.
"Yes, I did and I meant to keep that promise, but not now. I want to enjoy this moment with you. I will tell you before we go our separate ways," she explained.
They are breaking up? What is going on? I thought they were fine. (a few Fairy Tail mages seemed to be hiding in a small alley)
Is this why Mira and Laxus suddenly go out together? (A whispering voice from a certain nerd bluenette made the mages to look up to a balcony above the arguing couple)
Shit! I thought they are dating! (A card mage's whispers heard)
Sting shook his head. "So you truly want a break up…Why do we have to wait for more? Let's just end this all over now."
"Sting…" She tried to speak but the dragon slayer cut her off.
"Did I do something wrong?" His voice softened. "If I do wrong, I can make it right. Just tell me."
"Sting…" She pulled her hand from his grip. "There's nothing wrong with you. You've done nothing wrong. It's me. It's just me. I did something wrong, something selfish. And…this is the only way to fix it," she told him.
"What did you do?" he asked.
"It's not important…"
"Of course it's important. You're leaving me because of this thing. Tell me what it is, and I'll decide whether it's wrong or right."
Lisanna looked sideway and took a dee breath.
"You knew that I had a crush with Natsu. And when Lucy came, I became jealous of their closeness, their friendship."
"So, it's Salamander," he cut in.
All the eyes fell on the stellar mage and the fire dragon slayer.
Honestly, I didn't surprise about that. But I thought she loved Sting now (the Stellar mage was nervous)
I will beat the crap out of him for hurting Lisanna (They wondered if the fire dragon slayer understood the whole situation)
You were the one who hurt her in the first place. Need my help to beat the crap out of you? (Apparently, a certain iron dragon slayer joined the stalking crowd)
Shut up, you two! We don't want to be discovered (Seemed that the card mage couldn't hear the main argument they supposed to be listening to)
"No, listen to me. Then I made a wish, in which later on, it came true." She stopped for a moment, and he waited patiently. "I said…" Her throat felt dry. "…My life is completed with my siblings and Fairy Tail. I don't need anybody else…in my life." She glanced at him before turned her eyes elsewhere. "I don't need you in my life," she continued.
His heart skipped a beat hearing those words. It was like an echo to his ears.
"So, it is because of that Salamander," he spoke. "You finally realized that you couldn't forget him so you planned to ditch me and go back to him?" He looked upset.
"No. Sting, do you ever listen? All these things that happened to us, it was all because of me. I don't want any of us to hurt anymore."
"So, what? I told you I can take care of you. I can take care of us." He raised his voice.
"Until one of us die? Until both of us die?" She stepped forward and touched his arms. "I don't want us to die. I want us to live. And this is the only way." She looked down to her feet. "Maybe this is how fate shows us that we're not meant together."
"You believe in such crap?" he asked.
"I died once, Sting. I left my friend in grief. I left Mira-nee in grief. What if I truly die this time? Do you think Mira-nee able to handle it again?"
"Like I will let that happen! I will save you no matter what. I told you, remember?"
"Then what if you die?!"
"It doesn't matter. As long as you're safe," he said softly. He touched her cheek.
Lisanna pushed him away.
"It does matter to me. It does matter whether you live or die! I want you to live. I can't bear the thought of you die. I can't imagine it. I don't even want to imagine it. If we break up, all these things will stop. And I know that you're alive. That's enough for me."
Sting stepped backward, away from her.
"So I can't talk you through this?" He stared at the white-haired girl. "If you want this break up so badly, okay, you can have it. From now on, there's nothing between us anymore. This break up, no matter what you tried to do, it will never be sweet."
He walked past her, leaving her stood there, unmoving. And Lisanna, her muscles were too weak to even make the simplest movement. She could only let her tears ran down her cheeks. She thought she had prepared for it. But no, she was never prepared.
