"Did you see that? Guess she isn't so important after all"

Edward tightens his hand around me trying to reassure me I guess or to keep me calm but whatever the reason it wasn't working. I had been hearing things like this all day. Edward had tried being more 'boyfriendy' to shut them up for me but that didn't work either and I finally told him to stop.
Everybody was in a buzz because Rosalie was wearing Edward's gym clothes and there was no denying they were his because they had 'Cullen' in the back in big black letters.
Doesn't she have her own gym clothes?
I wanted to ask her this but I couldn't so I staid quiet like the coward I was.
We were on our way to lunch and it didn't help anything the fact that Rosalie was on the other side of Edward and that the rest of the gang was farther back than usual making us appear like a trio.
I sigh
Why did she have to do this? Did she want to prove to me that she was more important than me? It's not as if I didn't know.
Aside from the place she had in his personal life she was also Edward's partner in the group. I didn't know a lot about Edward's group and I didn't want to know but I knew that Edward and Rosalie were the leaders of the group.
Why does she have to show me up?
I knew it wasn't all in my head I could tell from the way she walked all smug with her head held high that she was doing it on purpose.
We finally entered the cafeteria and as soon as we did everything went quiet.
"Childish" Edward mutters.
"Edward I'll wait for you at the table" I say wanting to be away from them for just a little while.
"Aren't you hungry?" he asks.
I shake my head.
"Ok Jazz can you?" he asks.
"No you don't have to plus he's hungry really Edward I'll be fine" I protest.
"Don't be ridiculous Bella Jasper isn't hungry"
"How do you know?" I ask "that isn't nice Edward. I'm perfectly capable of going to the table by myself"
"I know you are I just don't want anyone getting any ideas"
"Please" I say rolling my eyes "people are scared enough of you already they wouldn't try anything"
"You think so?" he asks raising an eyebrow "I don't someone once told me that people can never be too scared of you and I'm a firm believer of that"
"Edward" I sigh "I'm just going to the table and we're in a CAFETERIA for crying out loud"
"Look I'm not going to stand here and argue with you so just choose either you go to the table with Jasper or you stand by me while I get my food" he crosses his arms across his chest.
I exhale
"Edward you're so"
"Excuse me can I interrupt you two for a second" Rosalie says from behind.
We both turn towards her. She's already carrying a tray of food. I think I know where this is going.
"While you 2 were arguing I already got my food so I can accompany Bella to the table"
Suck up
"Thanks Rose" Edward says surprised "didn't know you'd be so helpful"
Yeah who knew?
"I'm not doing it to be helpful I just don't want to stand here and listen to you guys argue about it. Come on Bella lets go"
I reluctantly follow behind her.
It was quiet neither one of us talked.
"Here I got you these" Edward says handing me a Snapple and a bag of baby carrots.
"Thanks but really I'm not"
"Hungry I know just try to eat them will you I don't want you fainting on me" he says giving me a smile.
I smile back and then I notice that Rosalie is sitting on the other side of Edward. She usually sits on the other side of the table away from us.
"Aaawww" she says "isn't that cute our Edward is finally whipped" she laughs
"Rose shut up" he says turning towards her. "We had a good thing going on you and me why did you have to open your mouth?"
"Love you too sweet cheeks" she says laughing.
Everyone else joins in. I don't
"Oh I just remembered Alice says she wants you to come home directly from school so I guess you're riding with me."
'Come home'? That isn't her house! And I'm sure 'Alice' couldn't wait to see her.
I nibbled on one of the baby carrots and looked away.
Tanya caught my eye and gave me a sympathetic smile. I smiled back.
I must be really pathetic if the woman who's supposed to be my rival has sympathy for me
I looked towards Jake but he wasn't looking at me he was glaring at Edward.
At least all this helps me get back Jake
Still not worth it though
I look over at Edward but he's laughing with Rosalie about something.
I sigh again.
I won't have to go through this with Jake
I wonder what color tux they'll settle on? I wonder where we'll live. Hopefully some place away from here maybe Europe.
And even if I have to go through this I'm sure he'll be more discreet. Maybe I can get him to buy me a dog? What should it be though?
Maybe a Yorkshire terrier and I can name him 'cuddles' oh maybe a golden retriever and I can name her 'Rosalie'
That made me laugh.
They all look at me like I'm crazy.
Well I did just laugh by myself
"Oh don't mind me I was just….keep talking about whatever it is you were talking about" I say trying not to laugh when I see Rosalie.
"Are you ok Bella?" Edward asks.
"I'm fine I just thought of something funny" I say a few giggles getting out.
"What was it?"
"Oh nothing" I laugh "you wouldn't think it was funny"
He looks at me for a second and then lets it go. I hide my face to hide my smile.
They leave me alone for the rest of lunch but no more love sentiments are said between Edward and Rosalie.
People moved on from their shock and so stopped talking like they always did when it came to Edward and Rosalie but the image or information that Rosalie was above me in 'rank' would never fade. I would just live with it I mean it's not like it's the first time I've been the unimportant one.
Jake won't put me through this once we're together
Jake I sighed.
I knew he would say something and that made it worse. I had been trying all day not to break down but what was happening today felt like when Jake and Tanya got together, like when Jake abandoned me for any other girl. I was the loser again, the girl who didn't matter who wasn't important that's how I felt today.
"Hey Bella wait up" Jake says
I reluctantly stop and sigh.
I have to get this over with. You can do it Bella the day is almost over
"Yes Jake" I say turning
"I want to talk to you about Edward and his friend" he says with disgust "he should give you your place. He shouldn't let his friend flaunt their relationship like that."
I knew I had to defend Edward I just didn't know how; Jake was saying all the things that I would say.
Think Bella what arguments could be said to contradict this.
"Jake you don't know anything they are just friends" I say trying to convince both him and myself.
"Besides it's not like things between him and me can go anywhere sooner or later I'm going to have to tell him about our secret and he'll be hurt so…."
"That has nothing to do with it while you guys are together he should give you your place. You deserve better Bella"
"Jake they really are just friends."
"Then why was she wearing his gym clothes?" he asks
"Because….her outfit was too revealing"
"So" he says "I've seen many of my friends wearing skimpy outfits you don't see me handing over my gym clothes besides doesn't she have her own? Why does she need his?"
"They're just friends" I repeat because I can't think of anything else to say "they aren't sleeping together."
"Are you sure about that? Have you asked him?"
"They're just friends. They're not sleeping together."
"Wake up Bella!" he yells "The evidence is right in front of you!"

"You deserve better" he says looking at me with pity

When I got inside the locker room I broke down for a couple of minutes but then remembered that Edward was outside waiting and changed quickly and washed my face before heading out.
EPOV
"Hey there you are I was starting to get worried" I say trying to make my voice as light as possible.
"Sorry I was just day dreaming again" she said in a weird tone of voice not looking at me.
"Hey are you alright?" I ask unable to stop myself.
"Yeah I'm just tired" she answers finally looking up at me and giving a tired looking side smile.
"You look tired yourself" she says.
"Yeah Coach Mendez made me do 100 push-ups because I didn't have my gym clothes freaking Rosalie"
"Hmmm" is all she says
"So what were you day dreaming about? Our kids again?" I say smiling at the memory of the ridiculous conversation we'd had.
"No" she says shaking her head "about the dog" she laughs lightly.
"We're going to have a dog?" I ask frowning.
She nods
"Why do we need a dog?"
"Because…the kids and I need something to keep us company while their father is away"
"You're replacing me with a dog!"
"Only while you're away" she says "Are you mad?" she asks cocking her head to the side "You seem irritated for some reason. Why?"
"Because you're going to replace me with a DOG!"
"That isn't so bad?" she says quietly "There are worse things to be replaced with and worse ways to be replaced" she says and walks away.
Was she talking about Black right now?
"Maybe I can convince Jake to get me the Yorkshire terrier" I hear her whisper
She's planning her life with him!
I'm not going to lie I'm a bit angry that she's thinking about him while being with me.
"So what kind of dog do you want?" I ask because I didn't want her to know that I had heard her and because we both needed a distraction; me from my anger and her from her thoughts.
"A Golden Retriever" she says laughing a little.
"Why is that so funny?"
"It's just that I already have a name for her" she laughs again.
"Her? The dog's going to be a girl?"
"Of course otherwise the name would be cruel for the dog….and for…" she trails off and begins to laugh again.
"What's the name?" I ask curious
"Oh no" she says shaking her head "only I get to know the name for now" she laughs again.
"Why a Golden Retriever?" I ask.
"Because its family friendly"
"It's all in the raising you know. You could raise a pit-bull to be as tame and family friendly as the Golden Retriever."
"I'm not getting a pit-bull" she says adamantly
"There you guys are! What took you so long?" Rose asks exasperated. "Alice has been texting me non-stop since the bell rang 15 minutes ago! "
BPOV
And just like that we were back to reality.
"Sorry that was my fault" I say trying to at least make my voice sound tired instead of the hallow I knew would come if I let it "I kept him"
"You don't have to apologize to them Bella. They can wait" He says stroking my cheek.
I give him a tired smile.
"Still though you shouldn't keep Alice waiting she really wants to see Rosalie." I say turning away. I start walking to the car.
"Bella" Edward calls.
I stop
He comes up embraces me and looks down at me frowning.
"Get some sleep ok. I don't like that look on your face you look practically like a zombie."
I nod.
He kisses my forehead and places me inside the car.
"Take her home" he orders.
Jasper and Riley get in the car and we leave but not before seeing Rosalie and Edward get inside his car. I turn away not wanting to see them happy together.
I stare out the window the whole ride to my house.
At one point Jasper asks me if I'm alright I tell him that I'm just tired. He tries to explain Rosalie's behavior I think but I interrupt him and tell him I'm just tired.
"Thanks" I say when we get to my house and get out. I don't turn to see them leave.
"Ms. Bella" Gloria says excitedly "Welcome home"
Well at least she cares.
"Hi Gloria" I say smiling a little.
"How did your day go? Did Mr. Edward like his present?"
My little smile falters.
"He did. I'm tired I'm going to my bedroom to take a nap ok"
"Ok. Are you sure you're alright Ms. Bella?"
"I'm sure" I say trudging up the stairs.
EPOV
"Uuuu what do we have here?" Rosalie asks getting the bag with Bella's gift.
"Give me that" I sat trying and failing to take the bag back.
"Oh its Bella's little gift" she says handing it to me uninterested.
I put it back in the back seat.
"What did you think about the grey 'Il Padrino' shirt?" she asks laughing "I wouldn't wear that one around school too much people might figure out your secret."
I laugh
"It made me laugh which after your little stunt I needed it" I glare at her.
"Whatever" she says rolling her eyes.
"Which reminds me where are your gym clothes?"
"In my locker" she responds
"Then why didn't you wear them?" I ask getting a bit irritated.
"I wanted to get you in trouble because you were an ass about my outfit. Yes I admit it was a bit short but you didn't have to be so mean about it" she shrugs.
"Are you serious?!" I yell "Coach Mendez made me 100 push-ups! 100!"
She just shrugs.
When we get home she gets out and goes inside.
I grab the gift bag and head inside.
"Edward your father wants to see you in his office" my mom yells from the kitchen.
"Thanks" I yell back.
I head towards my father's office immediately because he doesn't like waiting.
Knock! Knock!
"Come in"
"You wanted to talk to me?" I ask going in and closing the door behind me.
"Yes I heard James has been selling on our territory" he states
"Yes father" I confirm unnecessarily "At parties kids from school throw. I kicked him out of the Newton party almost 2 weeks ago but it seems he hasn't learned his lesson."
"What do you plan on doing about it?"
"What do you suggest?"
""Well talking clearly isn't working so why don't you pay him a visit" he smirks
"Exactly what I was thinking" I say smirking.
"Are you still going out with Isabella Swan?" he asks changing the subject.
"Yes" I tense.
"You need to get that situation resolved. She would call too much attention from the media."
"I know but The Asshole still hasn't woken up and she refuses to move on"
"'The Asshole'?" my father questions raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah what else would you call him? He grew up with her and should know her better. I'm convinced he has known about her feelings for him all along. If he wasn't interested then the least he could've done was oh I don't know set her up with someone so she could move on! Not toy with her and string her along" I huff.
"You aren't developing feelings for this girl are you?" he asks raising an eyebrow again.
"Of course not"
"Good because she isn't the girl for you Edward"
"I know that!"
"Good" he says dismissing me.
I get up and head to the kitchen to look for something to eat.
"Hey mom" I greet kissing her cheek.
"Hello Edward, how was school?"
"Good" I say opening the fridge and getting a cherry coke "what are you baking? Chocolate chip cookies?"
"Yes the first batch is almost ready"
Ding
She takes out the cookies and the delicious scent fills the entire kitchen at once.
"What's that in your hand?" she asks setting the cookies down to cool.
"You mean the bag? It's a gift from Bella" I say handing it to her because she'll see it sooner or later.
"Oh how nice" she says taking them out.
"But wait what is this?" she asks taking out the grey one. She raises an eyebrow.
"I told her my favorite movie was 'The Godfather'" I shrug smiling.
"What was the occasion? What did you get her?"
"She felt bad about ruining one of my shirts I told her to forget about it but I think that she felt like she literally HAD to do it. Like if she didn't she thought I would go away or something."
"Why do you say that? Maybe she just wanted to get you a new shirt"
"No" I say shaking my head "I've seen her do it before and then she's always apologizing for everything and I know she really means it. She isn't just saying 'sorry' just to say it."
"You seem to know her well"
"I'm just observant" I disagree.
"Do you like her?" she asks her voice brightening.
"Why do you and dad ask that? I told you guys what and why I was doing this" I say exasperated.
"You didn't answer my question"
"No!"
"Well it's your loss because she seems like a nice girl to me" she says getting back to her cookies.
"She would attract too much attention" I say quoting my father.
"That's your father talking not you wait a minute did your father tell you not to love her?" she asks looking me in the eyes.
"No" I kind of lie "besides if you could turn love off and on then I'm sure Bella would've found a way to" I stop and look around making sure no one can hear " get Black to like her or stop loving him. And my father can't tell me who I can and can't love"
She smiles proudly at me.
"Here you've earned yourself a treat" she says handing me a cookie.
"What is it with women and dogs today" I say getting the cookie "Bella was saying today that….you know what never mind bye mom thanks for the cookie" I dash out of there and head towards my room.
RPOV
"So how did your plan go?" Alice asks
"Perfect" I smirk "Edward freaked like I knew he would" I say smiling wide "I made it even better by walking on the other side of Edward when we were walking to lunch and made the others walk behind us. You should've heard the talk!" I laugh.
"Poor girl"
"You're kidding me right Alice? I told you what she'll do to him!" I exclaim.
"Yes but I can't hate her for something for something she hasn't done yet. Besides didn't you say that the guys she use to like never paid her any attention and always put other girls first?"
"Yeah so?"
"Well if Jasper ever did that to me it would make me feel ugly, unimportant and more importantly unwanted. Don't get me wrong though I'm not judging you and I'm happy you have Edward's back but I just think that you might have caused more harm than you intended to. Also didn't you say that the kids at school think you and Edward are sleeping together?"
"Yeah"
"How do you think the whole situation felt like for her? Again she was being pushed aside or in this case it might have been worse because she was the official girlfriend and was forced to walk with you on the other side you being the 'other women'"
"No I'm sure Edward already told her that we're….and he's so cautious with her that I'm positive he apologized or something"

I run to Edward's room and barge in without knocking.

"Did you explain to her that we aren't together?" I interrupt
"To who? to Bella? No not yet why" he asks.
I groan.
"Because look at how today might have looked to her with those rumors about us"
"Fuck! I have to call her" he grabs his phone from his night stand.
"And given what Jacob used to do to her she must have been miserable"
"Come on! Come on! Pick up Bella! Damn it!" he throws his phone.
"I have to go see her" he grabs his keys and phone and heads out.
BPOV
"Ms. Bella" Gloria says knocking on my door.
I wipe away my tears and open the door.
I smile when I see the blue teddy bear in her hand.
"When did he drop it off?" I ask taking it from her.
I press the button on the hand and a cutesy voice says 'I love you'
I smile again.
"A couple of minutes ago" she says "he also asked me to give you this" she hands me a lilly, my favorite flower "I tried to get him to stay but he said he had a date" she makes a sour face.
I laugh
"I'm glad he made up with Tanya I was beginning to think his super powers weren't working" I laugh again.
"Will you be coming down to eat?" she asks concerned.
"No I'm not hungry and I've got things to do and I swear it's not a lie this time"
I close the door and start working. I've wasted enough time already. I put the bear beside me and the lily in the vase near my bed.
I smile once more.
I thought he had forgotten you see Jake and I had this thing where we would give each other bears that said things like 'you're awesome' or 'you're cute' or other things like that to help cheer us up. I had a whole closet full of them in almost every color but he knew the blue ones were my favorite.
EPOV
I tried calling her on the way to her house but she wouldn't answer. I couldn't believe how big I'd messed up and how stupid I'd been. I should've seen how this situation might flash her back to….Damn it Rosalie! It certainly explained her behavior today.
I was turning the corner to her house when I saw his car. I stopped the car and watched as he got out with a blue bear and a lily.
What the fuck? Since when does he visit her and gives her presents? Did she tell him it was ok? Are they going out now?
My fists tighten on the steering wheel.
I saw him go inside and waited for 15 minutes before driving off.
She can do whatever the fuck she wants! Hell if the asshole finally paid her some attention all the better for me I could move on with my fucking life and forget about them.
Still though she could've at least told me they were seeing each other. There's no reason to hide it, it's not like we're really going out or anything.
Whatever I don't care anyway. I wonder how long they've been seeing each other.
I arrived to my house and slammed both my car door and the front door.
"What happened did you"
"LEAVE ME ALONE ROSALIE!" I yell.
I go to my room and lock the door.
