BPOV
My weekend was uneventful. My parents called and asked how school was going I said everything was going good. Then they asked how things with Jacob were going, now I have always had trouble lying to my parents but I have always managed to do it. For some reason though I panicked a little and they got a bit suspicious. I recovered quickly and assured them everything was fine. They didn't seem to believe me at first but in the end they did like they always do. I often wondered during the weekend what my parents would say if I told them I was going out with Edward. It made me laugh just imagining their faces.
Knock! Knock!
"Ms. Bella they're here" Gloria says coming in. "oh Ms. Bella!" she gushes "you look absolutely beautiful! Mr. Edward will love it! I'm sure"
"You think?" I ask smiling.
I had chosen for an outfit that's a bit more covered up. I had on a white long sleeved shirt, beige knitted scarf and sweater, skinny jeans and beige UGGs.
"I'm positive" she says smiling "now you better hurry and get your things together Mr. Jasper's here"
"Please tell them I'll be down in a minute"
She nods and leaves.
I put on some lip gloss grab my bag and get Edward's jacket from the hanger before heading out.
"You look very pretty today Bella" Jasper says when he sees me.
"Thank you" I say blushing a little.
Riley opens the door for me and I get in.
"Uh Bella" Jasper says when we're almost at school.
"Yes?"
He sounds uncomfortable and I have a feeling I won't like this.
"Edward is…sick today and he won't be coming to school today. He told me to tell you to 'buck up' and that he'll be back tomorrow" he says smiling awkwardly.
Buck up?
Buck up! Why was he doing this to me? He knew how scared I was to be around his 'friends' alone. He should've
"He told you to tell me when we were away from my house didn't he?" I ask/whisper.
"Yes"
'Edward! Why are you doing this to me?' I texted him.
'Why am I doing what? I'm sick forgive me for taking a day off to recover'
'Why didn't you tell me beforehand so I could take the day off as well? You know how they scare me'
'So you can face your fears. I am doing this to help you Bella. I can't always be there to protect you. You need to learn to face your fears and stand on your own.'
'You're not really sick are you?'
'You caught me. I'm just sick of school so I'm taking the day off. Good luck!'
I was furious with Edward for doing this to me. Who was he to teach me lessons! But more importantly what am I going to do? I'm all alone with them.
"You look worried" Jasper says opening my door "you don't have to. We don't bite" he laughs "besides if anyone does anything to you Edward will make sure they pay" he says giving me a reassuring smile.
I smile back feeling a little relieved.
"Aren't you taking the jacket?" he asks
"Its Edward's" I say nervously "I was going to ask you if you could give it to him for me."
"Well he isn't here" Jasper says " it's pretty cold today and that sweater doesn't look to warm, so why don't you put it on for now and then give it to me after school or when you don't need it anymore" he suggests.
"Uh ok" I say putting it on.
I had to admit that it was warmer than my sweater and it offered me a little comfort. It made me feel as if Edward was here and that made me feel just a little better.
"Do you want to go to class now or do you want to go somewhere to hang out?" he asks feeling as awkward as I was.
"Uh class is fine" I say not wanting to risk it.
He nods.
"Felix and Demetri" he calls them over.
"What's going on?" I ask confused and slightly worried that Jasper was going to leave me with them. In the last couple of weeks I had grown used to and comfortable with him. I don't know what I would do if I was left alone with the others.
"New orders" Jasper Explains "you're now to have 4 bodyguards."
I give a little laugh thinking he's joking.
"Oh come on!" I exclaim "isn't this a little excessive?"
"Don't you remember Friday?" Jasper whispers
I nod
He gives me a nod
"But I thought"
"This is just precaution we don't want anything to happen to you"
"Ok" I whisper "let's go"
They form a barrier around me 2 in the back and 2 in the front.
"Won't this call too much attention though?" I ask.
"Yes but we don't want you to blend in we want to make it clear they can't get to you"
"But won't this make them want to get to me even more?"
"Yes" he sighs "and I told him as much but he wouldn't listen so here we are"
I nodded
"He's just being overly cautious though so don't worry" he smiles reassuringly.
So the day goes by like that me being escorted from class to class by the 4 of them. I felt everyone staring at us when we walked by. I saw Jake looking worriedly at me and I knew I was going to have to talk to him after school.
"Edward's fever went down" Jasper says to me at lunch.
"Wait he's actually sick?" I ask a little confused and a little panicked.
"Yes" he nods looking at me weirdly.
"But…but he…he said he was just taking the day off because he was…"
"I think that was the initial plan" he stops and gives me an apologetic look "but Saturday afternoon he started coughing and last night he had a high fever."
"Oh no!" I exclaim worriedly "is he ok though?"
"Yeah like I said his fever has gone down and Rose says he isn't coughing as much I guess all those chicken soups and teas really worked" he laughs.
So that's where she is!
I'd been wondering where she was.
"He must be lonely" I know I would being all alone and in bed "maybe I should go visit him" I say mostly to myself.
"I'm not so sure that's a good idea"
"Why not?" I asked confused and somewhat hurt.
"Well both Carlisle and Esme are there and he"
"I get it" I say disappointed.
"But don't worry besides his parents Rose and Emmett are also there and Alice will be home soon. Please don't worry about him"
I nodded
How stupid of me Edward wasn't like Jake and me, he had family and friends around him who would take care of him and keep him company.
"Worry about us" Jasper says
"Huh?"
"He's a bit cranky when he's sick" he explains smiling "and he doesn't like to be bed ridden either. He's going to be in such a bad mood" he muses "can I stay with you?" he asks playfully leaning his head towards me.
I laugh.
When I'm in class I text him
'You lied to me why?'
'I didn't want you to worry'
'Hope you feel better'
'Thanks'
EPOV
"Rose!" I yell
"What do you want now?" she asks annoyed
"Have you found out what she's wearing or how it's going?"
"Yes I did" she says sarcastically "she's wearing a tube top and a mini" she gives me a look.
"Rose" I warn.
"Is this cold affecting your brain? Seriously Edward what would I even say? No one would believe I want to know how Princess Bella's day is going"
"Why don't you ask Jasper?"
She sighs and stares at me a bit.
"Fine" she picks up phone and dials
"Hey Jazz it's me. Edward wants to know what Princess Bella's wearing and how her day's going"
"Hey! I told you to not say it was me!" I yell throwing a pillow.
"You want to know or not?" she yells back.
"Give me the phone" I command.
"I don't know why you didn't call him yourself in the first place" she mutters handing me the phone.
"First of all what is she wearing? Nobody is leering at her are they? Because if they are then"
"Oh you disappoint me Edward" he sighs
"Yeah yeah" I say exasperated "I'm disappointed in myself now TALK!"
"Geez such a temper" he sighs "she's covered up today. She has a long sleeved shirt and a sweater and aside from that she's also wearing your jacket which means she's still marked as 'your territory'. She had brought it along to give it to you but I suggested she wear it. Admit it you're relieved" he laughs
Good thinking Jazz
"Keep going" I say hiding my relief
"No one has looked at her in that way. They have been staring at us though of course I'm sure that has more to do with the fact that she has 4 bodyguards than actually Bella herself."
"How'd she take the 4 guards?" I ask smiling a little.
"Good" he says "she thinks it's a bit excessive but after she found out what they were for she hasn't said anything else"
"You didn't have to scare her" I frown.
"Relax I didn't" he sighs "anyway she's been fine. She was surprised that you were sick by the way did you lie to her Edward?"
"Yeah but move on"
"Anyway when she found out you were sick and she got worried and wanted to see you said something about being lonely or something anyway don't worry because I told her it wasn't a good idea."
She wanted to come see me? I would be lying if I said that didn't make me happy as hell.
I smiled.
"You weren't mean about it though right?" I frown a little
"No don't worry"
"Thanks keep an eye on her for me. Please"
"Will do. Hey want me to take a picture for you? You know so you can put it in your wallet and stare at it all you want." He laughs and hangs up.
I hand Rosalie her phone back
"You're welcome" she says
"Thanks"
"Does that make you feel better? More at ease?"
I nod
"So at what time is she coming? You know so I can leave before she gets here?"
"She isn't coming" I say a tiny bit disappointed.
"Why not? She's always taking care of Jacob Black" she frowns
"That's different" I say irritation slowly growing "both Bella and Black are alone. Their parents aren't around so when one of them is sick they have no one but one another. Besides she can't come around here because of my parents both of them would be all over her but for different reasons"
She nods
"Oh Aunt Esme" she yells smiling evilly at me "I think Edward's fever is starting again" she continues pretending to be concerned "I think it's time for another bowl chicken soup."
"Why?" I ask astonished
"for annoying me" she shrugs and leaves.
I'm going to kill her
I groan
"Please mom" I plead when I see the bowl of soup.
"Please nothing Edward" she reprimands "if you had taken all of the chicken soup and herbal teas yesterday you would be better by now. Do you know how worried I was?" she asks tearing up "I thought I would… I would" she sobs.
If there was ever any doubt of where Alice got her manipulating skills from the evidence was clearly displayed right now. My mom could get me to drink and eat pretty much anything when I was sick. She guilt tripped me into taking whatever new concoction she thought of.
I'm pretty sure she could do it at any time I was just thankful she stuck to when I was sick.
"Ok mom I'll take the soup" I sighed unable to take her crying anymore "but please no more herbal teas please mom" I plead " I don't think I can take another one of those 'teas'"
"Ok" she says happily drying up her tears "just make sure you eat everything and don't you dare flush it down the toilet like you did the other 5" she frowns.
"Who told you? It was Rose wasn't it?"
"Edward I'm your mother" she says "I don't need anyone else to tell me" she say smiling threateningly
"It WAS her" I hiss "I'll kill her"
"Save the killing for when you're all better."
I groaned and hesitantly lifted up the spoon.
BPOV
The day had gone by very fast and despite all my worries everything had gone by very smoothly. Gym class had just finished and I was glad I could finally go home.
"Bella what's going on?" Jacob says stopping me on my way to the locker room "why do you have 4 bodyguards? Are you in some kind of danger?"
"No" I sighed "Edward is just being over-cautious like I said he wouldn't put me in harm's way" I smile reassuringly "Edward protects me"
"Bella maybe you should"
"I'm ok Jake please don't worry about me" I plead "now if you'll excuse me I have to go. I don't want to risk Jasper or anyone coming to check on me." I give him one last smile and go.
EPOV
"Hey" Jasper says coming into my room and sitting on my bed "how's it going?"
"I'm good just a cough here and there and a bit of a sore throat. What took you so long?"
"I stopped by the pharmacy to get you something. I'll be right back" he says
5 minutes later he's back with my jacket.
"Thanks" I say taking it and smelling it
It smells just like her
"You're hopeless you know that" he laughs.
"Whatever" I mutter "so what did you get me?"
"Check the pockets" he says smiling.
I frown and start checking; in the right side front pocket I find it.
"I thought you were supposed to be helping with damage control" I say looking at a wallet size picture of Bella. She looked so beautiful today.
"Let's just say I see things more clearly than you do" he says shrugging.
"Whatever" I say again "thanks for the picture though"
He nods
"I'll leave you to stare away" he says then gets up and leaves.
"Bella" I sighed "how am I supposed to pull away when you look so beautiful and I can't bear the thought of being without you?"
BPOV
'You ARE going to school today aren't you?' I texted Edward
I didn't want to go if he wasn't. I mean yesterday went good but I didn't want to risk it.
'Yes I'll be there. Why did you miss me?'
I didn't respond anything back I just finished getting ready. Today I was going with a white spaghetti shirt underneath a grey long sleeved knitted top/sweater that was off both shoulders. I had denim skinny jeans, black suede boots and pearl dangling earrings.
Knock! Knock!
"Ms. Bella they're here"
I put on some lip gloss and grabbed my bag before leaving.
"Hello Bella"
"Hi Jasper" I say getting in.
The ride to school was a quiet one. I was a bit mad both at Edward and at myself. I was mad at him for wanting to ditch me instead of just telling me about it. But most importantly I was mad at myself for being so clingy and needy. I was mad because I had been trying not to be but I guess it wasn't enough; hence the reason he wanted to ditch me.
"We're here Bella" Jasper announces.
"Thanks" I whisper quietly.
"Hey" Edward says smiling when he sees me.
He has a nice smile
"Hey" I is all I say and stand as far away as possible without it looking like I'm on my own.
"What's wrong?" he frowns.
"Nothing" I say managing to smile a little "Are you feeling better?"
"Yes much better. Honestly everyone was over-reacting if you ask me. It was just a little fever and a cold."
Must be nice having so many people around you when you're sick
I just nod
"You look beautiful by the way" he says when I don't say anything.
"Thank you" I say managing not to blush too much.
"What's wrong?" he asks again sighing.
"Nothing. Everything is fine"
"Yeah you keep saying that but I don't believe you"
"Really and why not?" I ask getting more irritated with him by the second. I mean I was trying to give him the space he wanted so why couldn't he leave me alone?
"Well for starters you're standing all the way over there, so far away from me. Second you haven't given me my hug nor my kiss, you aren't smiling like you always are, you didn't blush as much as you usually do and then there's your tone voice and last but not least its written all over your face."
I sigh and go up and hug and kiss him.
"There happy now?" I go to move back but he retains me there by his side.
"What's wrong Bella?" He asks again.
"NOTHING! Now will you please let me go?" I ask struggling to free myself from his grasp.
It does feel nice….
I shake my head.
"Look I'm just trying to give you the space you want ok"
"Oh" he says letting me go sounding a bit surprised and something else I can't quite place.
Why do I feel so empty all of a sudden?
I shake my head again. Stupid weird thoughts
"I hurt you" he whispers "I'm sorry"
"No you didn't" I say and I was telling the truth. "I'm just upset with myself. I didn't mean to be so clingy and dependent. I was trying not to be because that's always been my problem."
"Bella no I didn't mean to imply that you were"
"I know you didn't" I say giving him a half smile "and don't worry I'm not hurt I'm just upset with myself but I'll get over it. I just need some time to figure out how I'm going to get over it. I need to learn how not to be clingy it's one of the problems I had with Jake" it was safe to talk, the others had left us alone long ago. "Anyway I'll give you what you want don't worry but could you please just ask next time?"
He looks surprised but nods
"I'm going to class now" I say giving him a small smile "bye"
"Bye" he says dazed.
"You going to class already Bella?" Jasper asks stopping me.
"Yes"
He motioned for the other 3 to join us.
I stayed away from Edward as much as possible. I ate lunch quickly then excused myself to go to the library thankfully only Jasper had to go with me.
"I'm glad I didn't have to inconvenience the others" I say to Jasper as we're walking towards the library. "I don't think they would be too comfortable in a library" I giggle despite my sad mood.
"Yeah I don't picture them in a library either" he laughs. "So are you and Edward having problems?"
"No" I say shaking my head "we're just….I'm just giving him a bit of space. He needs some time alone" I say smiling a little
"And why do you think that?" he asks
I look at him and frown
"Well it was you who told me that he wanted to ditch yesterday wasn't it?"
"Well…. Yeah I guess I did…."
"Well I figured he didn't get the time he needed yesterday what with being sick and all so I'm giving it to him today" It was weird how calm and normal my voice sounded when in reality inside it was a completely different story.
"It was something I said wasn't it?"
"No it wasn't you really. I'm just glad you told me about it so I could give him the space he wanted" I smile "now if you'll excuse me I'm going to be in this area right here ok?" I say pointing to the romance section "I know you won't like it here so please do me a favor and go amuse yourself elsewhere"
"Bella I didn't"
"Jasper" I sigh giving him a look "I said its ok. With these types of things a girl should know now please let me look around in peace" I plead.
"Ok" he sighs and leaves hesitantly.
I give a big sigh of relief when he leaves me alone. I was trying to pretend that everything was fine and that I was happy but the truth was that I felt extremely lonely today and that I missed Edward SO much. I had to get used to being like this though I mean I didn't want to be a burden to either Edward or Jake so I had to get used to being on my own at times.
"Hey"
"Jake" I say smiling up at him "what are you doing here?"
"You don't have to pretend with me you know" he says sitting beside me on the floor.
"How did you?" I ask dropping the act a little.
"I've known you since you were born remember. There isn't much I don't know about you and I can read your moods like a book so tell me, what's the problem you're having with Edward?"
"It's nothing you can help me with" I sigh looking at the books beside me. "I'm just being too clingy again, so I'm giving him his space."
"Bella you are not"
"No?" I ask turning to him and raising an eyebrow "isn't that the reason you constantly ditched me"
"Yyyeah wwwelllll you see I…I"
"See you can't deny it either."
"I'm sorry Bella I never realized"
"It's ok" I say interrupting him "I just wish you guys would tell me I would give you your space you know"
"I guess we didn't want to hurt you"
"It hurts more when I find out on my own"
It stays quiet for a while.
"How about we go out?" he says all of a sudden.
"What?" I ask confused
"Well when he sees you with me he'll get jealous and forget about the space he wants"
"No!" I say firmly "when he sees me with you he'll just want to beat you up"
"But"
"No Jake" I insist "I'll be fine now can you please leave me alone" I say looking around "now I don't want to hurt your feelings but Jasper's around here somewhere and I don't want him to see you and tell Edward so please?" I plead with my eyes
"Ok"
"Thanks though" I say when he gets up.
He nods and leaves.
"Ready to leave" Jasper asks a couple of minutes later
I nod
"Did you find anything you like?" he asks as head to the door.
"No"
The others join us outside the library and we head to the next class.
"Hey" Edward greets at the end of gym class.
I was so happy to see him I half expected him to just send Jasper and the rest and just go home but no he really came.
"Hey" I say genuinely smiling for the first time today.
"I've been thinking" he says as he comes forward and embraces me.
I give a little sigh of relief it felt nice after the day I've had.
"And space is kinda overrated besides everyone thinks we're fighting and its getting annoying" he says smiling down at me.
"Yeah I know what you mean both Jasper and Jake asked me if we were fighting."
"Oh yeah" he asks raising an eyebrow "and what else did Black say?"
"Nothing he just asked what the problem was and then suggested that he and I go out to make you jealous. It's funny now that I think about" I laugh a little.
He stops
"And what did you say?" he asks
"Of course I said no" I say stopping
"Why?" he asks confused "I mean it was a good chance for you and Black to get back together. We could've played it out a little to give you more time with him and" he stops talking and sighs "you missed a really good chance Bella. Next time if there is one take it ok?"
"Ok" I nod.
Why do I feel disappointed?
"What about Tanya?"
"What ABOUT her?" he asks confused.
"Well last time I checked they were still going out"
"If he offered then he clearly doesn't like her that much besides wasn't me getting Tanya back part of the deal? I'll console her"
I nod and again a wave of disappointment washes over me.
EPOV
"I'm sorry if I was a little harsh on you" I say clearing my throat
"No you're right I should've taken the chance"
"So what's the deal with chicken soup and herbal teas?" she asks after a while "why was Jasper laughing about it yesterday?"
"He was laughing? I'll kill that motherfucker and his sister" I hiss
She just stares at me when I don't explain any further.
I sigh
"My mom is a great manipulator" I explain "and gets me to do anything she wants. Thankfully for me she only uses her manipulating skills when I'm sick or else I'd be fucked." I give a little laugh "anyway she only fed me chicken soup and herbal teas this weekend and not only did Rose tell my mom I wasn't eating all of them but when my mom finally stopped feeding my those things" I made a face of disgust "she told her 'my fever was going up' and my mom started giving me chicken soup again. Then this morning my mom got Jasper to 'suggest' bringing more tea and then volunteered to bring it when I had 'forgotten it'"
She laughed
"You're laughing? I had a miserable weekend and you're laughing at me. Do you want to die too?" I ask playfully
I loved hearing her laugh.
"I'm sorry it's just" she laughs again.
I start walking again and she trails behind still laughing.
"Sorry" she says when she sobers up "It must have been torture"
"I'm sorry if Jasper was mean about you coming over. I guess 'mean' isn't the correct word 'inconsiderate' is more appropriate. It's just that my parents would kinda freak and I don't want you being uncomfortable."
"I understand" she says smiling at me.
The smile was genuine so I know she wasn't just saying that.
"Can I tell you something without it sounding weird?" I ask feeling a bit nervous. I wasn't sure if I should say this but if she really was hiding something I didn't want her to feel bad.
She nods
I stop and take deep breath
"I missed you yesterday….and today" I say looking into her eyes.
"I missed you too" she says quietly and leans up and gives me kiss on the cheek before running into Rosalie's car.
"Hey Romeo!" Rose yells "hurry up! I want to go home!"
I shake my head and head to my car.
"Geez would you wipe that goofy smile off your face you look stupid" Rose grumbles but I can see she isn't really mad she's actually happy for me.
"Whatever" I say messing up her hair "you should've seen the look on your when you used to see Emmett before you got together that is"
Before she has a chance to respond however we're interrupted by a female voice.
"Excuse me? What did you say?" Rose asks the girl in front of us.
"I said I want to join Edward's gang" the girl repeats looking directly at me.
She's just as tall as Rose and has the same shade of blonde hair. Unlike Rose though she doesn't dress as provocatively and she carries herself in this good girl next door kind of way but her eyes tell a different story. She's tough as nails and would be able to pass initiation.
"Excuse me little girl but this isn't a game and forgive me but I just don't think you can take it."
The girl doesn't respond in any way and continues to stare at me.
"Excuse us" I say and take Rose with me a little ways away.
"What is it Edward? You can't seriously be thinking of letting her join?" Rose whispers
"Look into her eyes Rose. You're not seeing the real her. She carries herself the way she does but only to trick people into trusting her or not paying her any attention. She can go far in the organization and if she isn't allied to us she'll go with someone else and I would rather have her as an alley"
"But are you really going to do it?" she asks concerned "CAN you?"
"Of course I can"
"But what about"
"What's your name" I say before Rose can say her name. I can't think about her right now. I have a duty to perform and I couldn't let her be in my way.
"Heidi"
"It's just a formality because I know you can do it but there's a couple of tests you must pass"
"can't wait" she says eyeing my seductively.
