She could only remember very few moments of the past… of her grand adventure… She couldn't remember the names of her group, and their faces have disappeared from her mind long ago. A heavy ache resigned deep within her chest. There were very few things that she could remember.

Like any normal human, it would be next to impossible to remember such details at such an old age. Now give that human an immortal body, send them to the 1100's and, presto, you got her. Luckily, her ability to hibernate for a couple decades came in handy quite a number of times.

Kagome shifted in her bed.

She started her new job tomorrow. She was not going to lie and say that she wasn't excited. On the contrary, Kagome was bubbling with excitement and happiness. She loved teaching children. Young ones especially. She was going to start working at a grade school a few miles out of the Sakamaki territory. She couldn't be more grateful to the church for its decision. She was done with watching the Sakamakis from affair. Being so close to those boys made her uncomfortable and tense. It wasn't safe in that forest….

In their territory.

A few kills came to mind. The young women's muffled, choked screams and contorted faces haunted her. Kagome would often send them off in tears, chanting "I'm sorry. This is for the best" as the light faded in their eyes. It was something akin to putting down a family pet. The girls she slaughtered always past over peacefully. It was the spirits of the brides the Sakamakis murdered that often came looking for her. She would tell them they had to move on; they would scream at her, howl in rage, say it was unfair. Kagome could only silently agree as the ache in her heart grew more intense at each venomous word they spoke. She would often have to banish them from her sight when the ache grew too large to handle for Kagome was not skilled enough to do a successful exorcism.

Kagome shifted once more.

The girls she killed often came with a bounty from loved ones. People of the church would ask her to "give them mercy". If she was successful in going against the church's wishes, she would take the money the family or friend offered her if she failed then she apologizes and didn't take anything. Times like those she often found herself "grieving" with the family. She had known these girls from when they were just infants. She had watched them grow and transform. Then, in a cruel twist of fate, she had to either watch them die the cruel and terrible death the church set up for them or she took up the job of killing them herself.

Kagome shifted again. Her mood officially had been dampened.

These past couple decades, it had become harder and harder to fall asleep.

…And it's been harder for her to not hope she stayed asleep.
