As Yui's caretaker left, Kagome turned to the child and smiled reassuringly. Yui's small fingers had a death grip on Kagome's own as she bravely watched her father disappear from the classroom. Kagome called to the nervous child in a calming tone, "Yui-chan." The little girl's gaze met her teacher's. "Yui-chan, do you like to color?"
Yui looked at her toes and shyly nodded. Kagome internally cooed. With her soft, but firm grip on the girl's miniature hand, she led Yui over to the classroom's coloring table. The rest of the students were already there, busy with working on their coloring assignment. However, as Kagome and her new student neared them and it didn't take long for the rest of her class to notice the new addition. Excited murmurs buzzed through the air causing the blonde little girl to become increasingly shy. By the time Kagome got to the children's coloring table, her new transfer was hiding behind her long skirt and looked as if she would be making no moves to stop hiding. Taking it upon herself as Yui's new teacher, Kagome introduced Yui to the rest of her class, "Everyone, this is Yui-chan. She's new to this school, so treat her nice and make her feel welcomed. Yui-chan would you like to say 'hello'?"
Yui peeked out from behind Kagome, but quickly disappeared once more as her eyes made contact with the crowd's. 'I-I can't…' Yui internally whimpered. Tears gathered in Yui's eyes. Sensing her distress, Kagome turned around and petted the poor girl's soft blonde hair.
"It's ok." Kagome murmured. "You're really shy, aren't you?"
Yui nodded her head.
Her teacher turned and addressed the other children. "Ok, back to work. Nothing to see here."
Every quieted down and grumpily turned back to their crayons and papers. Kagome then focused her attention back to Yui. Bending down to the young girl's height, she inquired, "Would you like to color with me for now?
Yui quietly sniffled, then nodded. "Ok, then I'll go get some crayons and paper for us, ok? Will you find a comfy spot for us to color?"
Yui replied with a small 'ok.' The little girl was really grateful for her teachers understanding nature. She decided to sit nearest to the classrooms large glass window. It was the furthest away from the other students, the wall that held the classroom's door, and had a lot of different flowers lined among it. Yui looked at all the different flowers then back to her teacher. All of flowers were really pretty, but none seemed to out shine her new teacher. Yui watched as Kagome struggled to reach the supplies she needed on the top shelf of her cabinet. The angle Kagome was at gave Yui a good side profile of Kagome's face. Yui was always told to never stare at people and, like a good girl, she really tried her hardest. But, Kagome was so breath-taking. From her long hair and pale skin to her princess-like stature, Kagome-sensei looked like she belonged in a fairytale. But, what really made Yui stare was Kagome's eyes.
Kagome turned, looked at Yui and gave the young girl a radiant smile.
Pink and brown.
Like the color of a wilted, flushed rose.
