A/N: Mild Sex, Mentions of Rape
He took her hand in his and led her into the hallway, the perfect picture of a bride and groom. Leaving Thirteen's makeshift dance hall made this seem all the more real, and Finnick couldn't stop smiling.
Annie squeezed his hand. "Are you all right?"
"I'm wonderful, better than ever." Finnick grinned down at her. He always thought she was beautiful, but tonight, in her green wedding dress, nothing could dare to rival her. "This is what I've always wanted. How could I not be happy?" Something wavered in her eyes, but it was gone before Finnick could figure out what was wrong. Dread crept through him. "Annie? Are you regretting this?"
"No! No, Finnick, never. I love you so much." She leaned up on her tiptoes and pulled his head down so she could kiss him. "I'm just worried about, well, you know…"
Oh, that. All those nights in District Four spent holding her tight against him as her own fingers slipped down between her legs shouldn't lead up to a single, chaste kiss before bed on their wedding night. "I'll be fine, Annie. Come on, we can talk about this when we get there." He had made his decision before he asked her to marry him, but in the middle of the hallway wasn't where he wanted to discuss it.
At this time of night, District Thirteen was even more dead than usual, so they had no company as they walked in silence to their shared compartment. Finnick tried to ignore his discomfort as he plugged in the access code and waited for the door to slide open. "After you," he said, maintaining his confident act as long as he could.
Annie had never fallen for that trick. "Finnick, this really is something we need to talk about. We should have had this talk weeks ago."
"Years." He met her eyes and nodded. "Annie, I want us to have the choice of having a family someday, and I want you to feel fulfilled."
"I don't want you to push yourself too far."
"I've been thinking about this for a long time." He cupped her cheek. "We're free. Snow can never force either of us to do anything again, and I don't want his actions to rule how I live my life." Finnick leaned down to kiss her temple before bending even further to reach her lips. She smiled against his mouth and wrapped her arms around his shoulders. "I'm worried, but I'm sure."
"We can always stop."
"Now, Mrs. Odair, I'm sure you'll ravish me to the point where I wouldn't dream of stopping." Confidence and charm have always been his greatest weapons.
She laughed and kicked off her heels as he reached around her to undo the clasps on the back of her dress. "I can be pretty seductive." Her intended effect was ruined with a giggle, but Finnick found that even more enchanting. His fingers fumbled as he unbuttoned his shirt and slid off his trousers, Annie encouraging him along with gentle kisses as more and more skin became exposed.
He would have been lying had he said that he was comfortable and at ease as she explored his body, and a couple times he had to ask her to stop and allow him to process everything that was happening, but when the moment came, Finnick was just as eager as her. Their eyes remained locked on each other's, Finnick using the green eyes and long lashes to reassure himself that this was Annie. Annie who loved him, who would never hurt him, who would stop if he asked.
Later, when they were long since finished and Annie had slipped away into sleep, he admired her long eyelashes and flushed lips, musing that if this was what the rest of his life held in store for him, he could die a happy man indeed.
