Arc Title: A New Series of Events
Original story: 'A Series of Events that Led to One End' by chquine-harvinellisse
Summary: The first stop on their wild dimension hopping trip lands the Neo Brawlers in a strange alternate Wardington City. Where the brawlers are older and are not… the Brawlers. Instead a group of 5 girls run Crest Café, and when the Neo Brawlers find that they have a debt to pay they agree to work there for a while. It seems easy enough, wait tables, cook food, serve it, work at the cashier, and help the girls find their perfect match. This may be harder than they thought.
JetravenEx: ohhh my head hurts… Sooo many exams, makes my head spin.
Masquerade: *grumbles* what are you whining about? Do you have any idea the humiliation I had to endure?
JetravenEx: Nope, because the 4th chapter of 'His Just Desserts' hasn't been posted and likely won't be for a while, so I'm betting it's going to get worse. *starts laughing again*
Masquerade: *scowls*
JetravenEx: Hey look at it this way you get a break by coming and hanging out with me! Granted, I'm feeling a bit out of it…
Tyler: *snickers* That was great.
Masquerade: Gyron, if you want to live to see tomorrow you're going to shut up, right now.
Aidan: Oh looks like the cats got claws. *smirks while Tyler bursts into laughter*
Masquerade: *glares*
Mike: *glances around and then pales* Uh guys?
Aidan: *ignores Mike* What? No retort for that?
Masquerade: Hmph. I don't need to say anything, all I have to do is sit back and let JetravenEx write this next chapter.
Aidan: What? Why would an update be problematic?
Mike: Uh guys? We're in Neo Dimensions, and last chapter we left off…
Tyler: *stops laughing* Oh yeah we were starving….
Aidan: NO YOU IDIOT WE HAVE TO CROSSDRESS!
Tyler: Will we at least get to eat afterwards?
Aidan: TYLER!
Masquerade: *laughs* have fun ladies.
JetravenEx: Also please note Jessica=DD Jet, just to let you know so no one is confused!
Chapter 4
The girls were sitting at a table near where the bathrooms were, where the newest employees were trying on the uniforms.
Jessica had been the first to get dressed and the girl had slipped out of the bathroom and shyly approached the group of girls seated at a table nearby, with Masquerade leaning against the wall beside the girls. The girls chuckled when Jessica shuffled over to them her face flushed and her blue eyes focused down on her feet which lacked her beloved blue and white running shoes to be swapped out with a simple pair of black flats for the moment.
"Awww you're so adorable!" Julie cooed smiling at the younger girl who ducked her head even more at the comment. The girl fisted the frilly skirt of the maid outfit she wore and tugged on it.
Chaq smiled from where she sat, "She's definitely Jet, don't you think Masquerade?" She asked flashing the spiky blond a look.
Masquerade studied the younger Jet for a moment, he could definitely recognize Jet's discomfort with dressing up. His lips curled up in a smile perhaps he should make an effort to visit the café when Jet was working. The younger Jet was cute, and it made him wonder what his Jet looked like in the uniform.
Alice nudged him out of his thoughts and Masquerade lifted his head. "Hmm? Oh yes, definitely," He said making Chaq frown at his dismissive answer.
"Thanks… I guess," Jessica mumbled reaching up a hand to fiddle nervously with her hair.
Mira smiled at the younger girl. "Don't worry once your buddies come out, you won't be feeling awkward for long."
Jessica blinked and then she laughed covering her mouth to smother her laughter as the 14 year old snagged a chair and sat down near Alice and Masquerade resting her elbow on the table and looking expectantly towards the dressing room.
Julie grinned and cupped her hands around her mouth. "Oh boys~ We're waiting for you!" She called.
There were a series of grumbles coming from the dressing room, when Aidan spoke up in protest for the millionth time.
"I think this could be considered cruel and unusual punishment," The boy's voice had just the bit of a whine near the end of it.
"There won't be any pictures right?" The voice was Mike's.
Jessica glanced down at her phone that she had just begun to pull out and the girl pouted. Then her eyes lit up as she crossed her fingers behind her back. "Of course not! Why would you ever think I'd do such a thing?"
That earned giggles from the girls, and more mutters from the dressing room, the boys clearly still trying to find a way out of having to dress up.
"Just promise that I won't be seeing pictures of this on Facebook or something when we get back home," Mike pleaded.
Jessica hmmed. "I dunno, you guys would have to come out in the next 30 seconds for me to consider it."
"Screw that, I'm staying in here then!" Aidan declared.
Mira who had left the group to fetch some food from the kitchen returned and set down three plates with different foods, Jessica's eyes lighting up at the sight of food.
"Food!" Jessica cried and the girl began to happily dig in, her stomach reminding her how ravenous she was. Mira had been kind enough to make an attempt at pizza for Jessica and the girl looked like she was in heaven.
Chaq laughed at Jessica's antics. "Well if you want to stay in there fine, but then Jessica's going to eat all the food!"
Mira settled down between Runo and Julie smirking as more mutters came from the dressing room. Then the door was thrown open and a blur of white and yellow rushed out.
"Food!" Tyler cried skidding to a halt in front of the table. Mira quickly grabbed the food and snatched it away, the blond boy stuck out his lip and reached for the food. "Foooddd." He moaned his stomach growling.
Mira tutted. "You have to meet our approval before you can eat." She admonished. She glanced to her fellow employees, Jessica and Masquerade. "Well?"
The girls studied the blond boy before them. His dress was rumpled obviously from his hasty attempts to put it on, and it would be fine, except… Jessica pinched the bridge of her nose.
"Tyler… You put it on backwards."
Tyler blinked and glanced down and then at Jessica's outfit and then glanced down. "Oh," His face fell and he looked longingly at the plate of food that Mira held. "But, food-" He whined.
"Awww, he's so cute." Julie said with a snicker, "He reminds me of a silly little puppy." Tyler brightened a bit.
"Careful, if he's hungry, he'd act like a puppy to get food." Jessica said, smiling at Tyler. "Maybe we should take pity on him, I mean if he goes back to fix it Mike and Aidan will probably try to stop him," Raising her voice so Mike and Aidan could hear. "You big babies."
"Shut up Jessica! You won't convince me to give up my dignity so easily!" Aidan retorted.
"Pretty sure you lost that already man," Mike said quietly and Aidan growled.
"Whose side are you on?!" Aidan demanded and the girls laughed outside. Hearing them Aidan added. "See they're just in this for their entertainment, and they're trying to bribe us with food!"
The two settled back into quiet bickering.
"Well he deserves props for coming out of the bathroom at least, I think we can reward him for that." Chan smiled and glanced to the others.
"But he did put it on backwards," Chaq said and Tyler turned to her fixing the black haired girl with his best puppy dog eyes. Chaq blinked and then she laughed. "Well if you let me have a picture… You can eat." She glanced at the other girls and they nodded in their agreement.
Tyler's expression lit up. "Really?! Okay!"
Chaq grinned and pulled out her phone and held it up. "Smile!" She chirped and Tyler smiled as the girl took the picture. Chaq looked at the image on her phone and smiled, the picture caught Tyler's backwards dress and the boy's smiling face.
'I wonder what he'll think?' She thought, chuckling she nodded to Tyler. "Okay you're good,"
Tyler grinned and turned towards Mira who set down the plate in front of the blond boy. "Eat up," The red head said. Tyler looked at her and the plate for a moment, then once he was sure she wasn't going to snatch it away from him the blond plopped down into a chair and began to eat in earnest.
Jessica sighed as she finished eating most of her plate, and sat back in her seat eyeing the bathroom, before turning to the other girls. "I think we're going to have to do something otherwise they'll stay in there forever."
Chaq hmmed and then her eyes lit up she glanced sideways at Jessica and then leaned over to her the other girls perking up as Chaq cupped her hand by Jessica's ear.
"Does your Tyler, still have a fondness for setting stuff on fire?"
Jessica blinked and then nodded slowly eyeing Tyler, but the blond was too focused on finishing off the last few crumbs on his plate while eyeing the other plate full of food. "Oh yeah, that's what got us in trouble."
"Why is that important?" Chan whispered the other girls shifting in to join the quiet conversation leaving Masquerade and Tyler out of it.
"Because, all we have to do is bribe Tyler to go back into the bathroom and steal Mike and Aidan's stuff and then we can… coerce them to get out."
Runo raised an eyebrow at Chaq, while Julie began to snicker, "Are you suggesting we hold their regular clothes hostage?"
Julie began to snicker. "I like that idea!"
Jessica grinned, "Oh yeah that'll get Aidan to come out."
"Or we could just have Tyler and Masquerade drag them out." Mira pointed out nodding to the two blond boys.
"I'll pass thanks," Masquerade said, "I'm just here to watch the show not to participate in it," He remarked crossing his arms.
Runo scowled at the masked blond. "Watch yourself free-loader or I might stick you in one too,"
"I'm shaking in my boots,"
Jessica sighed, "This isn't working, Mike, Aidan come on… you're being lame… Do it or else I'll go in there and drag you out!"
Everyone looked at Jessica and the girl stiffened with all eyes on her and she glanced around frowning at suddenly being the center of attention. "What?! They're the only ones in there, and I've known them since I was in kindergarten, jeez," She said. "Plus I'd rather not hear them whine about how hungry they are, or how much Tyler's stomach hurts because he tried to eat everything!" Jessica said with a pointed look at Tyler who's fork had been going for a piece of chicken on Jessica's plate. The blond boy pouted and Jessica had to fight back the urge to laugh.
"You wouldn't do that!" Aidan protested,
"Yeah don't make Jessica have to go and get you," Chan added, the other café girls fighting giggles.
"You should send Julie in actually," Tyler remarked, still trying to spear one of the chickens off Jessica's plate while Jessica fended off his fork with her own. A hush fell over the café at his words, "What? I mean I'm sure you guys could make it way worse, I mean it's not like we have to do anything else besides put on a dress. It's not like we have to do our hair and make-up or…" He lifted his head and trailed off at the downright devious looks that Julie and Chaq were exchanging. Runo seemed to be just barely holding back snickers and Alice just sighed and shook her head.
"Haha! He's right! If you boys don't come out right now, I'm coming in! After I get some supplies first ~" She pushed back her chair, the legs scraping against the floor loudly.
Julie didn't get to go any farther as the door to the restroom opened and the two remaining boys edged out. Julie paused in her movement and with a satisfied smile she dropped back to her seat as the two boys finally emerged from their 'sanctuary'.
Once they were out in the open Mike kept his eyes fixed adamantly on his feet his blush covering his face and reaching to his ears. Aidan had his arms crossed and was fixing them all with the nastiest glare he could manage.
Two seconds passed and then the girls burst out into laughter, while Masquerade smirked at the sight. Tyler, taking note of Jessica's momentary distraction speared a big piece of chicken off her plate and popped it into his mouth, flashing her a look of triumph.
Jessica paid Tyler no mind too busy laughing right along with the café girls. Quickly she lifted her phone. "Hey Mike! Aidan!" The two boys made the mistake of looking at their friend just in time for the girl to get a few pictures. Mike blushed worse and immediately looked back down, Aidan glowered at her his left eye twitching behind his glasses.
"That was a dirty trick Jet," Aidan growled his stance stiff and eyes narrowed into the nastiest glare he could manage.
Jessica laughed and waved her hand dismissively, "Yeah, yeah, you're just upset cause you fell for it." She said putting her phone down on the table. "Now that you guys finally stopped being a wimp, you should probably eat something before Tyler-" She trailed off looking towards Tyler who was slowly sinking in his seat, 3 empty plates in front of him.
Jessica groaned and facepalmed, while Mike and Aidan gaped at the other boy. "Tyler…"
Aidan threw his hands in the air, "YOU IDIOT! YOU ATE ALL THE FOOD!" While Mike sank to the floor arms wrapped around his stomach.
"Dang it man, I'm hungry too you know!" Mike whined.
The café girls chuckled, "We did warn you, about what would happen if you didn't come out." Julie sang, "Buttt, I suppose we can negotiate…"
The two boys looked up hopefully, as Julie got up and grabbed Chan's arm, the Chinese girl looking up at her in surprise. "Chan here needs to practice making food for someone special so you're going to help her out!" She said, Chan's face heating up slightly.
Aidan glanced at Chan and then back at Julie, an eyebrow raised, the boy looked unconvinced, "What's the catch?" He asked.
Julie smiled, "No catch! You just have to eat whatever she makes!"
Mike sighed, "Okay, just please can we have something to eat?"
Julie beamed, "We'll be right back!" She chirped dragging Chan into the kitchen with her.
Mira frowned after them, "I'm a bit worried for my kitchen,"
Immediately Runo's mirth fell away and she looked to the kitchen a bit worriedly as well.
Aidan groaned, "Mike, if I die, I'm haunting you, and if you die, I'm haunting you two." He said fixing Jessica and Tyler with a glare.
Jessica held up her hands in a helpless gesture while Tyler was licking one of the plates.
"TYLER!"
/-/
"So that wasn't so bad," Jessica remarked to the other three, the group now dressed in their normal clothes again, sitting in the back of the limo with Masquerade and Chaq. Jessica sat next to Chaq and Masquerade, the masked blond fixated on something on his tablet, across from them sat the other three boys.
Mike nodded absently his eyes focused on the sights they passed through the window, "Yeah with how they were talking I was expecting Chan to make something really awful or something, she just made a couple of burned burgers,"
"And Tyler, ate most of the really burned ones," Aidan gave the messy haired boy the stink eye. "You already ate 2 plates, Jet's leftovers, and you ate 3 burgers! Where do you put it all away!"
Tyler pouted, "I was starving I hadn't eaten in at least a day! I had to make up for lost calories!"
Aidan sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "That's not how it works bonehead."
Tyler opened his mouth to protest when Chaq turned to him and asked, "So how did you guys like your first day?"
Tyler turned to her, his disagreement with Aidan completely forgotten he smiled brightly, "It was great! I mean yeah I got stuck with cleaning the bathrooms, and janitorial stuff, but they let me wear normal clothes for that!"
Aidan turned towards the window grumbling something along the lines of lucky bastard. He and Mike although they'd been kept in the back either washing dishes or assisting Mira with some of the more menial tasks for cooking. Hey, Aidan had 4 little sisters, if he didn't know how to cook, he'd have probably starved. Both boys had been made to wear the maid uniform, something Aidan had protested throughout the shift, only stopping after Mira threatened him at knife point.
"I'm glad they didn't make me use the roller blades," Jessica said looking a bit sheepish, "I mean I love using them. But-"
"But what?" Chaq asked looking at the other girl who blushed and ducked her head.
"Wellll," Jessica said glancing off to the side, Aidan and the other boys picked up on her nervousness and Aidan's lips curved up into a wicked grin.
"Oh, it's because of what happened at that one Winter Wonderfest right?" He asked in an overly sweet tone of voice.
Jessica flushed, "Hey! We agreed to never speak of it again! Plus I was like what 6? 7?"
"It doesn't matter how old you were it was still hilarious." Aidan said grinning.
"What was?" Chaq asked leaning forwards eyes fixed on Aidan.
"Yeah what was?" Tyler asked turning to look at Aidan, who fixed the messy blond haired eye with a blank look.
"You were there idiot."
"Actually I think Tyler was unconscious, he wiped out on the ice and banged his head into the barrier," Mike said grabbing his chin thoughtfully, "His dad flipped out, and took him to try and find some first aid person. It was then that we found out that Meredith had taken Jet to the roller rink."
"A roller rink?" Chaq echoed a look of confusion.
"I don't think it was called that exactly," Mike said squinting his eye, "Have you ever been to Winter Wonderfest?" He asked Chaq.
Chaq tilted her head to the side, "Hmm, no I can't say I have, and I don't think Jetty has either…"
"Actually, I took Jet there once when she was around their age now," Masquerade said lifting his head from his tablet and nodding towards the dimensional travelers; at his statement Chaq turned and gaped at him. "It was rather childish, but Jet enjoyed it, so it was fine. Although we didn't go again after that,"
Chaq pouted, "I can't believe you went without me!" She said putting her hands on her hips.
"You weren't there when I decided to take her, so I didn't think to ask if you wanted to come along."
Chaq glared at him then let out a huff before turning back to Mike. "So what's Winter Wonderfest like?"
Mike frowned, "Well I can't remember everything, but they use one of the big convention spaces at Navy Pier in Chicago and fill it with various booths, activities, and even a few small rides all with a wintery/Christmas theme. I remember we decorated gingerbread cookies, might've gone on a ride or two. But what I do remember was that right before Tyler went on the ice rink, Meredith decided that Jet wasn't ready for the ice and so our group split up."
"Who's Meredith?" Masquerade asked.
Jessica frowned, "She's my big sister, does she… does she not exist in this world?"
Chaq tilted her head, "No its just Jetty and me," She said.
Jessica's face fell a little at that, "Ah I see."
Mike waited a moment to see if Chaq and Jessica wanted to continue down that path of discussion, but when neither girl said anything more did he continue with the story. "Aidan went with Jet and Meredith, pretty sure he was afraid of the ice too but didn't want to say anything."
"I was not afraid of the ice! I was just well aware of how foolish I'd look when I slipped and fell on the ice! So I decided to tactfully avoid the problem." Aidan protested.
Mike rolled his eyes before continuing. "Regardless, Meredith was 10 at the time and she was pretty responsible so she took Aidan and Jet to the-the In-Line Skating! That's it!" He said snapping his fingers.
"In-line skating?" Chaq echoed her eyebrows furrowing.
"Ever seen roller blades? Where the four wheels are all in a single file line?" Mike asked, Chaq hesitated a moment before she nodded slowly. "Those are roller blades."
"Ah, okay."
"So anyways, Tyler went on the ice while his dad was getting my skates and lo and behold he didn't know how to skate so he wiped out, and knocked himself out. After that I wasn't allowed to go on the ice and his dad sent me to join Meredith, Jet and Aidan while he went to help Tyler." Mike said, "So I went over to the In-Line Skating where Meredith said they'd be, and-"
"Oh I want to tell this bit!" Aidan said cutting in with surprising enthusiasm, Jessica giving him the stink eye as she folded her arms and squeezed herself into the corner she was in. Aidan flashed her a grin, and there was a wicked gleam in his eye, "So, Meredith took me and Jessica to the In-Line Skating, and it was actually pretty fun. I fell a few times, thus Meredith encouraged me to take a break, and then to make me feel better she went on the break with me, leaving Jet to skate around. Mike joined us right around that time, and see Jet, Jet loves to go fast. Even as a scrawny little 8 year old, she was fast, unfortunately she hadn't quite mastered the art of stopping-"
"I slipped!"
"On what the floor?" Aidan said with a scoff, "The whole area was designated for in line skating, there wouldn't be anything for you to slip on! So anyways, the way its set up is you go around and around, I can't remember whether there was some wintery scene set up in the middle that you went around, or if it was just a big circle you were supposed to skate around in. But regardless, Jet ends up messing up somehow, and the next thing we know she's sliding on the floor on her butt going under a fake fence like barrier and into fake snow."
The girl in question's face heated up, as Chaq and Masquerade glanced at her, Chaq giggling slightly at the image in her head. Of a little Jessica struggling to get out of a cluster of fake snow that she happened to find herself in, the masked blond's lips were quirking upwards as well and Jessica growled.
"Oh it's on Baxter!" Jessica declared jabbing a finger at Aidan, her blue eyes blazing. "I'm about to bring the humiliation to a whole new level, prepare yourself to feel my wrath!" She said clenching her fist.
"You want to hold that thought?" Masquerade asked as the limo came to a stop in front of an immaculate looking house. It wasn't too big nor was it tiny, but it was big enough to house a masked blond and his large ego, and then some. "We're here and there's someone I want you all to meet first." He said before he stepped out of the car and made his way to the door, tucking his tablet under his arm.
The four dimensional travelers scrambled out of the car, Jessica and Chaq opting to get out on the street side along with Mike, thus avoiding the struggle to get out between Aidan and Tyler.
Once they all were out of the car, and Tyler was helped up from the ground (Aidan really needed to learn to be more patient); they followed Masquerade up the stairs and into the house.
"Jet?" Masquerade called into the house, Jessica perking up at the sound of her name and Masquerade glanced back. "Not you, Jessica, our Jet." He said gesturing to himself and Chaq.
"You guys solve the whole case of mistaken identity?" A voice came from the kitchen, the sound of footsteps and soon a very familiar golden brown haired girl emerged from a hall way. Her bright blue eyes sparkling with mirth. Jessica's jaw dropped as she got a good look at the other Jet.
The most startling fact was there were barely any differences, the other Jet looked to be roughly around the same height (which meant Jessica wasn't going to grow much taller than she already was), wore her hair the same way (long and straight), and just gave off this aura of 'sameness' to Jessica. The only difference was the fact that this Jet was presently wearing a black skirt under a white blouse. Far too dressed up for Jessica's usual tastes.
"Kind of," Masquerade said as Jet frowned at him and he stepped aside gesturing to the 4 dimensional travelers, the other Jet's eyes widening at the sight a hand going up to her mouth as she saw a younger mirror image of herself standing there. "See, it seems we may have found a couple of dimensional travelers that caused the mix up… This is Jet (although we're calling her Jessica to keep confusion to a minimum), Aidan, Tyler and Mike." He said gesturing to each of the kids in turn.
Jet looked at each of them her eyes widening, and then she looked at Mike and she paled. "Mike?" She echoed taking a step towards the brunette.
The brunette boy blinked and looked uncertainly at his friends, when they offered him no help he looked at the other Jet, "Uh, yes?" He said slowly.
The other Jet took a step back looking like she'd seen a ghost.
"Bu-but you're dead-oh-" She said and then before anyone else could speak her eyes rolled up and she fainted tipping backwards.
Masquerade and Chaq darted forwards Masquerade catching the other Jet before she could fall.
Behind them the group of dimensional travelers looked on in shock. Mike's eyes were wide and he was starting to look a little pale himself, Aidan was glancing between the other Jet and Mike, while Jessica looked on with concern at the other Jet. Tyler on the other hand was gaping at Mike.
"Wait, you're dead? Dude why didn't you tell me?!"
Aidan groaned and smacked Tyler upside the head. "You're an idiot."
"For once I second that," Mike said pinching the bridge of his nose shaking his head.

A/N: Welp that's the end for this chapter.
I'm not sure if the crossdressing scene was as funny as you'd hope, it was kinda hard to write, but I'm hoping you all enjoyed anyways! :D
Also the winter wonderfest thing, partially based off a real life event, I was in line skating and then somehow at some point I found myself under one of the fences that enclosed the skating circle and in a pile of fake snow. Pretty sure a lot of people were looking at me wondering what the heck I was doing. Fortunately I was still in elementary school so I was young enough to get away with it. :D If it had happened now though… *shudders* I'd be so embarrassed.
Anyways, Series! Jet seems to think Mike has died! Le gasp! What's the story behind that?
Well I'll tell you. In the next chapter… Whenever that goes up. But hey! At least we've gotten past chapter 3! Huzzah!
Also remember how I said to go read ThatBloodyTartarus's 'His Just Desserts'? Go read it. Now. Right now.
