Annie had always been a ripper. At least, that's what she and Finnick called the people who tore off pieces of their food as they ate. Now that she thought about it, maybe that wasn't a widely used term. Oh well. She popped another bite of bread into her mouth. Somehow both dry and too chewy, it was still one of the better creations that District Thirteen's kitchens had managed to come up with. As she chewed, she scanned the crowd for her husband.
She spotted Johanna first. The woman grinned at her and looked away to say something to someone behind her, and a minute later Finnick was seated next to her, blushing all the way up to his hairline. "What's up with you today?" she asked, trying not to giggle at him.
"Nothing," he answered a bit too quickly.
Johanna slammed her tray down in front of them. "I learned something new about Finnick's love life today."
Annie's heart quickened, and she looked between Johanna and Finnick, searching for more information. Yes, she was secure in her relationship, but – "Don't worry, I don't think that Lieutenant Jordans is any real competition for you. Unless Finnick's tastes have changed quite a bit, that is." She gave him an exaggerated wink.
Lieutenant Jordans. Annie thought a moment before a tall, balding man in his late fifties came to mind. She couldn't help the giggle that escaped at that mental image. "Now I've got to know. What happened there?"
Finnick shook his head and looked down at his overcooked vegetables, but Johanna wouldn't allow him to escape so easily. "Finnick was messing around with his rope the way he usually does during our breaks, and the lieutenant came over and complimented him on something, I don't remember what. Guess how your husband responded?"
She looked to Finnick, but his blush had returned, and Annie was almost certain she had her answer. "I love you?"
Johanna burst out laughing, and Finnick put his head in his hands. Annie leaned in to kiss his forehead. "It's alright, love. I'm not too terribly jealous."
"You're not making this better."
"And really, I have so many better stories than that one. What's a little bit of calling your lieutenant your love compared to walking straight off a dock or ripping your pants on live television?"
"Hey, everybody loved that!"
"Yes, but you were still mortified."
Johanna looked between the two of them. "Annie, we're going to have to have story time one of these days."
She smiled at Finnick. "Of course we will. I'm sure we both have plenty to share."
A/N: Thanks for reading! I'm so glad people have continued to be interested in these little moments. Somehow, in the last year, I've managed to write fifty of these! I'm still not sure how that happened. Anyways, thanks again for reading, and I'd love to hear any thoughts you have on this or any of the other chapters.
