A/N: ...We see some familiar faces this chapter.
Once again, be brutally honest with reviews. I'm not going to be offended. If you don't like a character in the story, please explain why and I will try my best to make them as in-character to the DBZ universe as possible!
P.S. : Give me some suggestions for what could happen next, guys! I will definitely consider them!
Goku kept his arms at his side once the space between the two fighters was reestablished.
Usho wore a mask of deep concentration as though carefully planning his next move.
Goku's expression was stern, but he looked the most calm of the two.
The PTO soldiers just hovered aimlessly, watching the staredown intensely, too afraid to interfere, but not quite enough to abandon their commanding officer.
Usho shouted with exertion as he arched his arm toward Goku as though throwing baseball. The ball was made of Ki. Goku reacted almost instantly, spinning his body vertically like a wheel.
Usho expected this and his second hand joined his first, letting loose a volley of blasts, raining down toward the cheerful hero like miniature meteor shower.
Goku raised his arms up to block and apparently, the barrage did something. They obviously made contact, as smoke began to form, overlapping itself as more ki blasts joined the previous one in colliding with the invading Saiyan.
Usho was beginning to perspire, the attack exhausting him slightly. He watched the smoke cloud in front of him intently, his sight darting between it and the scouter readings materializing on his device.
Without any warning from his scouter, the warrior burst from the dust cloud without preamble, his left fist extended as he speared towards the commander.
Usho's eyes nearly bulged at the display. The wild haired fighter didn't look damaged at all and his armor only showed light scuffing. Once Goku closed in, Usho managed to keep a cool head and avoid Goku's waiting fist that was at his hip. From that point, their arms and legs looked to be going every direction at each other. The spectating soldiers couldn't tell what hits were landing on who. They were moving too fast!
While it may seemed like they were evenly matched, Usho was slowly tiring. Goku's punches and kicks were being deflected and parried as skillfully as Goku was doing the same to him. However, Usho's limbs, specifically his arms, were getting heavier from the high speed movement. Usho ducked under Goku's quick moving foot and threw out his own, which Goku grabbed effortlessly with one hand. Helpless, he was thrown like a Frisbee, seeing the Saiyan's form in front of him as he was careening backwards. Suddenly, the black haired fighter disappeared, to Usho's confusion, before two hard objects that felt vaguely like fists collided with the crown of his head, nearly knocking him unconscious instantly.
There was a collective disbelieving gasp as Goku straightened his posture, returning his arms to his side.
His stern gaze turned to the infantry who all tensed up nervously.
"Leave this place. I won't hurt you guys, but I can't speak for the other two that're here," he ordered.
"Don't need to tell us twice!" One of them retorted fearfully. Several of the soldiers began to collect their unconscious squadmates, including the commander, and trying their general best to get away from Goku.
The Saiyan ignored them at this point, releasing more of his Ki as he blasted off towards the Tower. He decided against using Instant Transmission for now. He still wasn't completely familiar with his mother's signature and didn't want to act rashly.
I'm missing home already. It's fun meeting my parents and all, but there's no one challenging here... He let this thought idly pass through his mind, groaning in annoyance. "I really miss Chi-Chi's cooking!" he whined, clutching at his stomach as though he received a blow to the gut.
Gine had entered the Outpost tower long moments ago. She had hoped Bardock or Kakarot would have been here by now, as she was in a talkative mood. However, the absence of both left her feeling a little agitated as she tried to find the room that contained the device her and her family were tasked with finding. She was currently in a large hallway that was circular in nature, but spiraled upward as you continue deeper into it's interior. The walls were of a muted purple while the floor was an off-white. There were evenly spaced out lights situated on the ceiling leading off into infinity down the hallway.
Ignoring the view for a moment, she cursed herself for not bringing a Scouter. She got a little over excited, thinking that she wouldn't need it now that she could sense energy. She should have taken Bardock's advice and brought it anyway.
Wrinkling her nose in distaste at the unfortunate circumstance, she decided to jog alongside the wall and check each door that might contain the Warp Driver. Fortunately, there wasn't much noise, so there probably weren't a lot of soldiers in the area she was in.
The first door she came upon was non descript, save for a window situated towards the top of it. She was too short to see through it, so she focused effortlessly to float above the ground. There were personnel inside of the room, but all of their backs were turned to her as she looked around as much as she could from across the transparent view-panel. All of them were oblivious to the face squished against it as she looked in every direction.
Finally, she gave up and moved forward through the hall to find another door. The first room hadn't contained a lot of mechanical objects and she remembered what the device looked like from Bardock's explanation.
She exhaled loudly, growing bored as she abandoned walking for flying down the hallway to cover more distance. As she'd begun to do this though, her Saiyan hearing began to pick up conversation from an approaching door down the hallway. Slowing down before landing and jogging the rest of the way, she crouched in front of the door, pressing her ear to the cool metal and ignoring the slight chill.
"Could you move any slower, pretty boy? It's not like I'm in a rush or anything!"
A sigh was a reply, sounding more deep voiced and cultured. Zarbon glanced at his compatriot in distaste, never really enjoying his company that much. "You didn't have to follow, you oaf," he retorted. Besides, once we get this to Cooler, at least we will have something important to hand over to him instead of running to him with our tails between our legs."
"We've been here for days! Will you grab the damn thing already so we can go!" the first voice grumbled, gravelly and impatient, belonging to Dodoria, the short, fat, -and much less handsome, Zarbon thought-, pink-ish skinned alien.
Zarbon scoffed as he continued to type on the console, not bothering to look at the stocky alien again. Zarbon was seated closer to the center of the room, analyzing the object in front of him, which was currently encased in a glass cylinder. Dodoria stood off to the side, grumbling all the while with his arms folded. The room's lighting was flashing occasionally, both from the computer screen and the inside of the glass cylinder.
"What's so important about this thing, anyway?" Dodoria spoke up again, looking distractedly between the cylinder case and the computer screen, which just seemed to be flashing constantly. What the hell was Zarbon even doing? Zarbon continued to type as he spoke, and he occasionally looked up from the computer screen to the glass case.
"It's a Warp Driver engine, as I'm sure I've told you before," The seated green tinted alien replied with a weary sigh. "There's a reason Frieza never allowed those monkeys flight technology beyond Space Pods," he explained, still typing away.
"And?" Dodoria chimed in. "So what?"
"Gods, you're unobservant," Zarbon stated as he hit a final button on the console. He turned to face Dodoria as he stood up and the cylinder made constant beeping noises as the glass cylinder slowly raised.
"It means that if the Saiyans who killed Frieza get their hands on that thing, mind you there was an overpowered gold haired one there too," he continued, turning his head momentarily to see if the glass casing raised all the way. It hadn't yet. He continued speaking.
"Just imagine a planet of Saiyans capable of interstellar travel with ships, fleets even."
Dodoria chuckled nervously. "They're not so tough, what difference would it make for them?"
"Frieza was killed just short of a day ago. By a Saiyan," Zarbon stated slowly, as if Dodoria had overlooked the obvious.
"It was only that one guy! I doubt the planet's that strong. Those apes would have done something years ago if the was the case!" he argued, shaking his head in denial.
Zarbon admitted he had a point, but that was all moot now that Frieza was just effortlessly killed by one of them. He let Dodoria know this, whom simply laughed it off. If Zarbon could, he'd quit the force right now, but he and Dodoria were Frieza's right hand men. The Planet Trade Organization was far from falling apart yet, but if he tried to quit now, Cooler or even King Cold would surely send someone after him.
After all, he had to keep up appearance and all that. Dying prematurely didn't quite fit in with his daily curriculum.
Dodoria scowled. Zarbon was certain that Dodoria was thinking the same thing. They'd attract too much attention to themselves if they tried to go AWOL. Besides, what else could they do? It wasn't like there was any other job they were good at.
The console behind Zarbon made another beeping sound, different from the ones it made earlier.
"Alright, it's ready. Let's go," he announced, almost a whisper as he began floating into the air to grab the device before descending and breaking into a jog. Dodoria pulled the door right off it's hinges impatiently, before starting at the sight directly in front of them. "What the?"
Gine smiled nervously, the corners of her mouth twitching fearfully as she backed away slowly.
"He~ey," she muttered, her hands raised in front of her, as though the action itself would make them disappear.
Dodoria noticed the tail wrapped around her waist, growling under his breath.
"You're the reason we're on this damn field trip. I was ready to beat some monkeys up, anyhow," he smirked viciously, cracking his knuckles.
Zarbon looked at her disinterestedly, the large Warp Driver device tucked under one arm. The object was about volleyball sized, but had a football shape and was lined with circuitry. "Dodoria, we really do not have time for this," he suggested to the alien next to him. Dodoria grunted, beginning to walk towards the Saiyan.
"If it wasn't for her kind, we wouldn't even be here," he said with a cruel smile. Zarbon looked unsure, not really in the mood to be staying on the planet longer than necessary.
"Fine," the taller alien relented. "I'll wait for you at the bay area, but you need to hurry along. No telling how many more of her there may be," he explained, taking flight and leaving the both of them behind.
Gine swallowed, continuing to slowly backpedal as she tried to come up with a plan. Out of all the people to run into, why Dodoria? He wasn't exactly known for being a nice guy, and he was exceptionally cruel when meting out punishment.
"I'm gonna have a lot of fun beating you to a pulp," the former enforcer drawled, powering up his Ki as he stalked forward.
