A couple of weeks had passed since Celeste and John had called off their engagement. Celeste for the most part had garnered support from the other Divas. The men's locker room was a different story. The Shield boys were getting the cold shoulder from just about everyone. John decided to call a locker room meeting. "Alright everybody, listen up!" Everyone's eyes turn to him. "Even though nobody's said it, I think I know what you're all thinking." He looks at Seth, who narrows his eyes, wondering where this is going. John points at him and looks around the room saying, "This guy is not the reason Celeste ended things with me." Seth finds himself letting out a sigh of relief. "So there's no need to be an ass to him and his partners. Understand?"
There are mumblings of agreement and John ends the meeting.
As people disperse Seth says, "Thanks for that."
John hangs his head. "As much as I want to hate you, I can't. Though I am a bit surprised."
"By what?" Seth asks.
"Why you haven't told her you're in love with her yet." John answers. Seth's eyes widen in surprise causing John to chuckle. "I appreciate you trying to hide it, and get why you tried, but it's obvious." What John didn't say was that even though he knew Seth wasn't the reason Celeste broke up with him, he knew she did have an attraction to Seth.
"Well from what she's said I don't think she's ready to jump into anything else just yet. I wanna respect her boundaries." Seth explains.
John felt pained at Seth's words. He knew many times he hadn't respected Celeste. "You just make sure you always respect her, no matter what." John says before leaving the room.
Everyone goes out to eat after the show. Celeste was tired and hormonal. The boisterousness of her coworkers was grating on her nerves, even though no one was being over the top. A young woman comes over to the table to collect the Shield's autographs. She gets Dean's last and says, "If I didn't already have a boyfriend we could have some fun tonight."
Dean laughs. "You wouldn't want me for a boyfriend doll. I'm too much trouble."
The woman just laughs and walks away.
Celeste shakes her head. It hurts her when Dean says such things about himself. "You've gotta stop that." she says.
"Stop what?" he asks.
"Stop dogging yourself."
Seth and Roman feel the tension of the situation, but let it play out.
Dean leans across the table and says, "Deal with it Star, I'm just an evil, sick, son of a gun."
Celeste hand flies into the side of Dean's face! "STOP IT!" The slap startles her as much as it does everyone else. Her hands cover her mouth. "Oh…" she whispers. "Dean, I'm sorry."
Staring daggers into her, Dean kicks his chair away and storms toward the door.
"DEAN!" she cries after him.
As she steps away from the table, Seth grabs her arm. "Let him go."
"I can't." she insists, pulling free.
Roman shakes his head. "Oh…my gosh. She really is his mom isn't she?"
She runs outside and spots Dean. She runs to catch up to him. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have hit you. It just really hurts me when you talk badly about yourself."
He chuckles. "If you really knew me, you wouldn't be all loving like you are."
"That's not true." Celeste claims.
Suddenly Dean grabs her arms and shakes her. "YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ME! STOP ACTING LIKE YOU DO!"
"You're hurting me!" she whimpers.
Dean's blue eyes go from filled with rage to sadness when he realizes what he's done. He releases her and murmurs, "Sorry."
He turns to walk away, then glances back. "DON'T follow me!" He walks away.
Tears begin to fall down Celeste's face.
"Hey." Seth suddenly appears in front of her and she wraps her arms around him. He kisses the top of her head. "We can only do as much for him as he'll let us."
When Celeste went to book a room, she discovered all the single rooms were taken, so she had set her bags on the extra bed. She was about to settle in for the night when there was a knock on the door. Slowly she walks over and looks through the peephole. She opens the door and Dean says, "Hey."
"Come on in." Celeste replies.
He enters and looks at the bed with her bags. "Why do you have an extra bed?" he asks.
Celeste smiles and picks up her bags. "That wasn't the plan, but I'm guessing now it's because you need it."
Dean sits on the bed and let's out a sigh. "I'm sorry I grabbed you like that." he says.
"I know." she responds.
He smiles. "I gotta admit tonight's the first time anyone ever hit me because they cared."
She sits next to him and says, "I may not like a lot of things you do, but that doesn't mean I will stop caring about you."
"Even if I confess something major to you?" he asks.
Her heart pounds. She knew she did have a habit of being judgmental. But it was usually only toward people who didn't acknowledge they'd done wrong, or made excuses for their actions. She took his hand and answered, "No matter what you tell me."
"You know about when I was a kid, I had to sell drugs for these guys in order to keep from getting the crap kicked outta me daily?" Dean explains.
"Yeah." Celeste answers.
"I wasn't the only kid they went after. This kid Josh, tried to fight back. It didn't end well." Dean says.
Celeste squeezes his hand. "So you feel guilty for not standing up to them or grateful that you didn't end up like Josh?"
"I watched them beat the hell the out of him and didn't try to stop it because I knew they'd just turn on me." his voice cracks. "I let a kid die!"
Celeste bites her lip forcing herself to not breakdown. "You were a kid yourself." she states. She turns his face toward hers. "And I know that you would die in a heartbeat In order to protect me, Seth or Roman."
Dean smiles. "Yeah, I would."
Celeste laughs. "I thought the idea of bromance was stupid until I saw the Shield. But darn it, you guys are so freaking adorable. I especially loved seeing how real it is when I started working with y'all."
Dean smiles and jokes, "So what if killed Seth or Roman? Would that finally make you hate me?"
Celeste just smiles and shakes her head. "Dean, even if you had killed that boy, you can be redeemed from anything."
"You're gonna start talking religion aren't you?" he interrupts.
"I'm gonna talk Jesus." she replies.
"Same thing." he retorts.
Celeste takes a deep breath. "I'm not gonna beat you over the head, because I know that might push your farther away. But I am not gonna give up on you."
Dean somehow knew she meant it. He smiled. "Thank you." He kicks off his shoes and stretches out on the bed. He closes his eyes. "Sing to me to sleep Mom."
She laughs. "Any requests?"
"Whatever you want." he answers.
"Anything?" she asks smirking.
He opens his eyes and looks at her. He had a feeling she had something religious in mind, but decided he didn't care. "Sure."
He closes his eyes again as strokes his hair and begins to sing:
Why should I feel discouraged
And why should the shadows come
And why should my heart feel so lonely
And long for heaven and home
When Jesus is my portion
My constant friend is He
His eyes in on the sparrow
And I know he watches me
I sing because I'm happy
I sing because I'm free
His eye in on the sparrow
And I know he watches me
I sing because I'm happy
I sing because I'm free
His eye in on the sparrow
And I know he watches
I know he watches me
Dean drifts quickly into slumber. Celeste kisses his forehead, then settles into the opposite bed.
The next morning John sits eating breakfast. He overhears a conversation.
"I still don't believe it." says one female voice.
"When I learned that Celeste and Cena called off their engagement, I was certain it was because she was screwing Seth!" insists another female. "I can't believe it's Dean!"
John cares too much about Celeste to let her name be tarnished so he decides to intervene. He gets up and steps around the corner to see a blonde and brunette.
"Well if you saw Dean going into her room, it must be true." says the brunette. She glances up and sees John, causing her to gasp.
The blonde's head snaps around. "OH MY GOSH!"
"Excuse me ladies, but I couldn't help overhearing your conversation." John explains. "I thought I should tell you that you're wrong."
"Wrong?" she brunette asks slowly.
John grins and asks, "Mind if I sit?"
The blonde slides over, allowing him to sit next to her.
"Yes. You're wrong." he answers. "Celeste and I breaking up had nothing to with Seth and definitely nothing to do with Dean. She is a classy woman and I do not want rumors spread about her."
"But what about Dean doing into her room last night?" the blonde asks.
John shrugs. "They have a special friendship. But I know for a fact it's not sexual."
"So why did you break up?" the brunette inquires.
John sighs. "Just…wasn't meant to be. But there is no animosity between us at all."
The scene ends with John offering to take selfies with the girls.
Dean awakens to the sound of Celeste shrieking. "What's wrong?"
She turns around and shows him her Ipad. "Someone saw you coming into my room last night and they are calling me a slut!" she explains.
He sits up and shakes his head. "So?"
"So? Um so, I'm a virgin, waiting for marriage. I'm NOT a slut!"
"As long as you know the truth, it doesn't matter what others say." Dean insists.
Celeste groans. "I know you're right, but still…"
"But nothing." Dean says. "I don't care what social media thinks about me. That's why I don't use it. But if you care so much, keep looking. Maybe someone is saying nice things."
"I hope you're right." she says. "I just got more mentions." She checks them and Dean sees a smile spread across her face.
"See, what'd I tell ya?" he quips.
"These girls are posting a retraction because John overheard them talking and told them the truth."
Dean pats her on the shoulder. "Good guy that John. Even though you're better off not marrying him."
