UO: Thank you Ms. Gordon. This will be the start of the first long stretch of the season. This means that because of where the races are going to be, I decided to have the races in back to back to back chapters. This will show the effort the crews, the drivers and the equipment go through in a long season having to be shuttled back and forth between each location.

Chapter 7: Mayhem in Malaysia
When we last left our heroes they were taking a little break in Abu Dhabi. During their stay, different thought and reflections were had by all but it is apparent that they closer as a team and for two red heads closer in their friendship.
Now it was six days since they left Abu Dhabi and were now waiting at the airfield that held their planes waiting for the Hendrick planes. Isshin had told the team in their post-race meeting that they would be housing the Hendrick drivers which was met with some disgruntlement especially the amount of time they would be together which would be until after the Japan race in three weeks.
Now they were waiting for the Hendrick planes having heard they would be coming in at 10:30 Japan time. This was fine and all but some people namely Andrew and Ichigo were groaning about getting up early.
Ichigo was drinking his coffee while Andrew was battling away on his DS. Orihime and Tatsuki had just finished their segment and were now playing with some cards Yuzu had.
"Damn that old man why did he make us get up at 6:30 of all times and getting here at eight. Why are we even meeting the Hendrick drivers?" Ichigo grumbled taking another sip.
Andrew nodded his agreement while plugging his DS in to charge it. "Two hours honestly, I normally get to a flight about an hour and a half before the flight check in go through security and depending on the time get food. But we barely had time for breakfast. To answer your other question I guess it was a good impression on an older team.
Ichigo groaned and looked around. Orihime and Tatsuki were playing some sort of card game and judging by the tomboy's displeasure Orihime was beating her. Orihime though was taking this with childish glee which got him to smile.
Ichigo turned his eyes towards Uryu who was reading some sort mystery novel. Looking at the title it was an American author by the looks of it. Looking at his big friend he was snoozing or was he just bored he could never tell with his friend. Letting his eyes wonder he saw the rest of their crew doing their own thing
After a few minutes he went over to the girls and asked to play with them which they did.
After another hour everyone got caught up in the card game. It was apparently a game Andrew was taught from his grandmother go figure. They were a few rounds in when Isshin walked up to them.
"Sorry about the delay but the Hendrick planes are on final approach. So pack up your games and let's head out onto the tarmac.
"Good to know. Orihime was kicking our butts. Seriously what the heck." Andrew grumbled as they packed the cards away.
Orihime laughed sheepishly at that "Well…I always had this weird luck at cards. Maybe it's the little blue men controlling me and I somehow know what to do?
Ichigo shook his head and spoke. "Whatever it is you have a good poker face."
They quickly packed up and left the waiting area towards and walked out to the hanger. A few minutes later a plane came in. Orihime and Tatsuki were filming as a big grey plane similar to a C-117 landed first and proceeded towards the hanger with the cars. The crew was ordered to go help unload the cars. A couple minutes later a smaller passenger plane landed. It was a long rang Embrearjet 370 the third generation of business planes designed for long-haul flights. It landed and started taxiing towards where they were standing.
The plane powered down and the door was opened up. From the greeting team's perspectives the first person out was a middle aged man with greying hair and a little chubby in a casual sports suit. He walked downed the stairs and immediately made a beeline for Isshin. The man shook his hand smiling all the way.
"Mr. Kurosaki a pleasure to see you again." The man said.
"Likewise Brant-san." Isshin said with a smile.
"Please its Jonathon." Jonathon smiled. The American turned to the group next to them who were watching the exchange curiously.
"Ah yes, you haven't formally met my drivers." Isshin said enthusiastically walking over.
"The red head is my son Ichigo." Isshin said patting his son on the back getting him to scowl.
"It's nice to meet you Brant-san." Ichigo said holding his hand out.
"Please its John to all of you." John said shaking Ichigo's hand.
Isshin moved to Uryu "This is my nephew Uryu Ishida."
"Pleasure to meet you." Uryu said shaking John's hand.
"The big guy is Sado Yasotora we call him Chad."
Chad just silently shook John's hand. "Not much of a talker is he?" John muttered.
"Don't mind him. He does that with everyone. Andrew Michaels nice to formally meet you." Andrew said speaking up.
Isshin moved to the girls. "This is Orihime Inoue and Tatsuki Arisawa our traveling camera crew."
"Ah yes the crew from National Geographic we have our own." John said turning back towards the plane where all of the drivers had disembarked.
"I am sure you know some of them but let me introduce my drivers. You all know Serenity Gordon.
"Hello everyone" Serenity said.
"The brown haired man is Robert Johnson."
"Hello." Robert said.
"The one in the cowboy hat is Ralph Dillon."
"Howdy." Ralph said.
"And the red head is Dale Earnhardt IV."
"You can call me Dale." Dale said.
"We also have Benjamin Bestwick as one of our reporters."
"Nice to meet you all." Benjamin said.
Handshakes were exchanged. Then Isshin punched Ichigo for no reason.
"WHAT THE HECK DAD!" Ichigo said kicking his father
"GET YOUR LAZY BUTT MOVING AND GET THEIR LUGGAGE!" Isshin said blocking the attack.
'WHAT DO YOU THINK I WAS DOING?" Ichigo yelled as they descended into one of their brawls.
The Hendrick camp just watched on mortified. It was Dale that voiced the question.
"Is this normal?" Dale said pointing at the comical fight.
"You get used to it where's your bags?' Andrew said nonchalantly. John just led them over to a hatch and opened it.
With some effort they got the bags out and handed it to American drivers and started walking out of the airport. When it came to rides they brought three cars, Drew's Mustang, Uryuu's Honda Accord and Isshin's Pilot. (Don't own them.) The Camera crew and John were going with Isshin, Tatsuki ended up with Uryu, Chad, Ralph and Dale. This left Serenity and Robert to ride with Ichigo, Andrew and Orihime.
Walking up to car, Serenity had to whistle. "My never thought a rookie like you can afford this."
Andrew chuckled as he opened the car "This is me saving up my winnings and my father matching the money I put up. Eighty-four thousand miles since college started this baby can still run pretty well. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of American dealerships so I have been forced to work on my car myself. Thank god for a big garage." Andrew said closing the trunk.
They climbed into the car and drove off as apparently they were the last ones to leave. As they drove around the two newcomers to the country were amazed at the cityscape.
"This city is huge. Much larger than Charlotte." Serenity commented.
Ichigo chuckled "I take it this is your first extended stay in this country. Well we are currently outside Tokyo heading towards what is called the Mie Prefecture. Think of prefectures like states in the U.S so we are essentially heading from one state to another. The prefectures are administrative purposes but most of them can also be seen as cultural borders. We are currently in the region known as Kanto where Tokyo and the majority of the population live. We live near the border with the Kansai region which is our cultural capital with Kyoto as its center.
Serenity nodded her curiosity sated. Robert though had another question. "I've noticed a lot of the city is built on the water why can't you build inland.
Andrew looked in the mirror "Mr. Johnson I take it you don't know much about Japan's culture or geography do you?" At Robert's no gesture he sighed. "I'll explain the geography. Japan is mostly mountainous and volcanic. A lot of the population is close to the shore because of that. Japan is like that because it lies on three fault lines making it one of the most seismically active areas in the world. When they built the extensions of city they had to really come up with a way to make sure those buildings stayed standing. In an earthquake the ground will liquefy and actually collapse the foundations. There was this big earthquake about twenty years ago that tested it and it passed with flying colors.
Robert though had another question "But what about building on the old areas?"
Andrew sighed "They have a huge respect for their ancestors and the land something as a history major I can appreciate. They believed there are spirits on the land and if they disturb this harmony well something bad could happen."
"Couldn't have said better myself Andrew." Ichigo said.
Robert was impressed as their driver weaved through traffic. About an hour later and a quick stop for lunch later they were at the Kurosaki mansion.
Robert was the one whistling this time. "Impressive house Kurosaki." He said as he grabbed his and Serenity's bag and started heading up the house. "Compensating for something?"
Ichigo growled at the barb but ignored it as they entered the house.
"Shoe's off please. Slippers are next to the wall." Ichigo said slipping off his shoes and putting on his house slippers.
Serenity and Robert looked a little confused but did so.
"We're home." Ichigo called out and was instantly stuck by Isshin.
"YOUR LATE!" And thus another "brawl" ensued.
Andrew sighed "Ignore them. Come on I will show you your rooms." Andrew said climbing the stairs.
They went passed several rooms Andrew pointed each one out.
"This is the twin's room they are at school right now. Serenity your room is across the hall. Sorry it's a guest room. Robert you got the room down the hall across from Uryuu. Dale is closest to mine Ralph is across from Ichigo. Dinner should be about 7 or 8 you are free to move about the house. If you don't have any questions I will be seeing you around." With that Andrew left.
Serenity placed her bag on the ground and fell on the bed. "So much better than a hotel." Serenity sighed "And definitely better than the plane." She said to Robert who had just come back into the room.
"I got to admit they have class." Robert said with an impressed voice. He then turned to Serenity who looked up at him.
"Yeah makes you wonder how they got this far?" Serenity said. Robert nodded and left the room.
Robert happened to be nearing Andrew's room when he heard the sound of gunfire. Curious he knocked on his door. A gruff response let him in. Inside compared to some of the rooms he had seen it was little under decorated. There were a few pictures but the room had the lived in feeling compared to the other rooms they had seen.
"What's up?" Andrew said not even looking up from the screen as he sniped another character getting some colorful cursing from his opponent. Robert noticed that he had some sort equipment on his glasses.
"Nothing just seeing what's up?" Robert said walking over and pulling up a chair. "What you playing?"
"Oh the new Call of Duty game. Got to tell ya it is pretty good." (Played a little of the series and don't own it just making stuff up.) He said he got shot up causing him to growl.
Robert looked up at his screen name 'GarnetOsprey91' and his eyes widened. "Wait your Garnetosprey91. The one the call 'The Blood Eagle' because he can snipe target accurately and can hit people from any high place?"
"Blood eagle that's a new one. I prefer the Silent Hawk. What's yours?" Andrew said hitting another target and then calling in a gunship.
"Bluechevy48. Why?" Robert asked.
"Ah the Speed Demon. Known for being able to destroy anyone with a vehicle and capable of fast hitting his targets." Andrew said as the round ended and he logged off to change games. Robert absently noted it was some sort of obscure title.
"One of the things I like about Japan is their video games. Shooters are nice but Americans don't put as much faith into RPGs or role-playing games. Japan has a lot of these that don't get released in the U.S or are of limited release, they are called JRPGs. Other than Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest I don't think there are a lot well known series in America. Thankfully, the Kurosaki's taught me Japanese. Other than getting around and not saying anything stupid I can at least know what these games are talking about."
Robert dumbly nodded and sat on the bed as Andrew started up a game. He was amazed at the graphics and the quality of gaming as Andrew went about the in-game world. When there was a fight he noticed Andrew get focused as he thought about what to do in each fight. Four hours later Serenity walked wondering where those two were. When she walked into Andrew's room she had to smile. Robert was playing a fighting game with Andrew and from the looks of it he was enjoying themselves. She was sad to break this up.
"Boys, I'm sorry to break this up but it is dinner time." Serenity giggled. Andrew looked up at the clock "Damn it has been awhile. Come on Robert I'm hungry." He nodded and stood up behind him. Walking out behind Andrew he looked at Serenity who had a devious smile.
"What?" He asked stupidly.
"I told you he wasn't so bad." Serenity said as they walked down stairs.
"Yeah, yeah rub it in." Robert said with a small smile.
When they got downstairs Robert saw two new figures. One was busy around the stove and being helped by a couple of servants while the other was playing with her phone.
"Oh yeah they came home an hour and a half ago." Serenity said. "The chef is Yuzu and the one at table is Karin.
Yuzu momentarily stopped "Hello you must be Robert. It's nice to meet you." Karin looked up and waved at him.
"These two are Ichigo's twin sisters. Although looking at him you would be surprised that he had sisters." Serenity pointed out. Yuzu finished putting the food on the table.
"Alright guys dinner time. Grab what you want to drink." Yuzu called out. One by one everyone walked into the dining room and took a seat.
"Thanks for the meal." Those raised or at least aware of it said their thanks and began eating. The guests just went along with it and took a bite of Yuzu's meal.
"Oh man this is great." Ralph said in his southern accent.
"Wow this is great." Dale said.
Robert and Serenity were eating their food and were enjoying it as well.
Yuzu smiled "Thank you guys. I hope you guys have some recipes from back home to try here I want to make your stay as pleasant as possible."
"Oh I got a ribs recipe that is to die for." Dale bellowed. "It's true. So good that you will be wearing it." Robert said taking a sip of his drink.
"That messy huh." Andrew said taking a bite of the vegetables to which Robert nodded.
For the next few minutes they traded stories about their racing career. As the meal ended, Serenity looked around.
"Excuse me Isshin? Will your wife be joining us?"
This was apparently the wrong thing to say as all dinner activity stopped. The atmosphere was tense and then Ichigo stood up.
"May I please be excused?" He said throwing his napkin to his plate and heading upstairs.
"What is it something I said?" Serenity asked seriously.
Isshin answered "My wife Masaki. She died when Ichigo was eight years old.
Serenity put a hand up to her mouth and gasped "I didn't know. I'm so sorry."
Andrew spoke "You didn't know and personally we weren't in a position to tell you guys. It's a sore spot for Ichigo.
Serenity nodded and after that dinner was concluded and everyone did their own thing.
Around eleven o'clock, Serenity was getting ready for bed as the jetlag caught up to her. She was walking from one of the bathrooms in her nightgown when she saw a light from one of the rooms. Looking through the gap she saw Ichigo in his bed looking up at the ceiling. (Andrew was moved to another room for they felt too cramped with the two boys.) A soft knock brought his attention to the door. Walking up to it he opened the door and saw Serenity. He gave her a stern look causing her to flinch a little. But she gathered up her courage
"Hi Ichigo." Serenity said a little hesitantly.
Ichigo grunted. "What's up?" He said leaning against the door.
Serenity bit her lip and they sighed. "Look about what I said earlier I'm sorry. In my ignorance I brought up something that could have been painful."
Ichigo sighed. "You didn't know but apology accepted."
Serenity saw his look "Were you and your mother close?"
Ichigo looked down. "She was the reason I went into racing. I saw a local race one day long before the twins were born and I was fascinated by the spectacle. She was the one that took me to all of the races. I was really good at it. We…were on our way home in the rain when a drunk driver crashed into us. She didn't survive." Ichigo said horrifying Serenity. "This is what made it a family affair. My whole family is involved with this because of that.
Serenity was tearing up a little. "I honestly didn't know. I'm sorry."
Ichigo sighed again "Don't be alright." Serenity cleared her eyes and nodded. "Well if you say so Ichigo, I will bid you good night." Serenity said as turned away.
"What do you race for?" Ichigo said stopping her. "What?" She asked.
"Andrew asked me in Abu Dhabi what I race for. I haven't found it yet. I was wondering if you had.
Serenity looked down. "I…have never really thought about it before. Do you mind giving me some time for this?"
Ichigo nodded. "Yeah…I will. Good night."
Serenity just left. Ichigo was breathed a sigh of relief and was about to close his door when he heard sniffling. Turning to his left he was shocked to Orihime and it looked like she was crying.
"Orihime?"
She just hugged him. "I didn't know how much your mother influenced your racing. Just like how my big brother motivated me" Orihime said crying into his chest.
Ichigo said nothing as she calmed down. She then had a determined look to her face. "I caught the end of your conversation with Gordon-san. You haven't found your motivation for racing. Well then we'll find it together." She said with fire in her eyes.
Ichigo chuckled. "Well then, I hope we succeed." "That's the spirit Kurosaki-kun." Orihime said.
"I think we are passed last names Orihime-chan." Ichigo said causing her to blush.
"O-O-Okay, Ichigo-kun." She stuttered out. She yawned. "I guess I better go to sleep, Tatsuki might be worried and the little blue men could take over my bed." Ichigo nodded and before she could leave she felt something on her cheek. She placed her hand on said cheek looking up with her innocent looking brown eyes which had widened in shock.
"What can't a guy give a girl a goodnight kiss?" Ichigo said chuckling. Orihime just sputtered and ran back to her room. Ichigo kept chuckling and then sighed for the third time 'Someday Orihime you will know my feelings just wait' Ichigo said going to his bed and falling asleep.
Orihime came into her room quietly not wanting to wake her friend up and crawled into her bed.
'Ichigo…why is it I feel like I can tell you anything. Why does my heart beat so fast when I am around you?' Orihime placed her hand on her heart. 'Sora-nii, what do I do?' Orihime though as she fell asleep.
Five days later
The Hendrick and Kurosaki Teams are now in Malaysia preparing for the third race of the season. After practicing the day before the race they were now ready for qualifying. Uryu and Dale had already gone out in the cloudy conditions and were currently 4th and 6th on the chart with 12 drivers having taken time. Shawn Newman was living up to his reputation for fast times as he is currently on the pole.
Serenity and Ichigo were due out in the third or the next session. Chad, Ralph and Robert were due out in the fourth session and Andrew would go in the last.
Serenity was strapping in completely lost in her own world when she heard a tapping on the roof scaring her a little but looking up. It was her crew chief James Letarte.
"You alright Serenity?" He asked. She shook her head "Yeah I'm fine. Let's do this." She said placing her helmet on. She was lined up third to leave behind George Schumacher and Marcus Andretti. At the command they were released to do their warm-up lap. A couple of minutes later the flag was dropped as Marcus crossed the line. Serenity shifted into higher gear as she went down the long stretch that reminded her of Talladega. As she continued qualifying she thought about what Ichigo had said before.
'What do you drive for?' she heard in her head.
'What do I drive for? Ichigo said he hasn't figured it out yet but will I figure it out.'
She was snapped out of it when her spotter spoke about her nearly running off.
"Serenity you were having the lap to beat, what happened?" Her spotter called out.
Serenity shook her head. "Nothing I guess it's a little slippery here." She said and proceeded to get back on track. After the session ended she was 13th overall out of 18. Serenity pulled into the garage and was almost immediately hounded by reporters when she got out. After giving her interviews she looked up at the scoring pylon. She was now 13th and probably going to drop further. George Schumacher had taken the pole and Ichigo was fourth behind Marcus who qualified surprisingly well.
"Serenity there you are." She turned to the voice and saw Robert walking over to her in fire suit.
"What happened out there you normally are better out there?" Robert asked.
Serenity just looked at him "I guess I lost focus Robert." Serenity said as she started walking away.
"Serenity." Robert called causing her to stop. "I may be a friend, but know I am here for you."
Serenity blushed a little but didn't let Robert see. "I know. From cradle to grave, we made that promise a long time ago regardless if we marry someone else." Serenity said walking away.
Robert sighed as he looked up to the clouds 'Marry someone else, tch. The only one I want to marry is walking away from me right now' Robert said walking towards the pits.
Forty-five minutes after Serenity had gone all the drivers had qualified. There was a delay as Michael Kennseth had wrecked in turn nine. A lot of drivers were sliding throughout the day killing the times but Michael completely lost control and wrecked forcing a halt to qualifying. The driver was okay but the car was totaled and be forced to a back-up. George Schumacher took the pole, Ralph Hamilton took 2nd and Marcus Andretti took 3rd. The rest were as follows:

Sunday: Race day March 20th
Serenity was stretching out the kinks in her body and walked outside her sleeper plane. She was in a robe with her sleepwear underneath it. She opened her brown eyes and saw the sky. It was grey despite it being 7:30 in the morning local time. The forecast called for rain and both teams had prepared for the change in plans. Looking around she spotted something. She walked over and saw that Andrew was throwing punches and kicks around but it looked to be in a practice motion. Watching him finish and take a deep breath he looked and appeared surprised to see Serenity walking over.
"Serenity what are you doing up this early in the morning?" Andrew said walking over to her.
"Oh I have always been an early riser. What about you?" Serenity asked.
"Woke up early I think nerves are getting to me early I don't know why. Thought about some early morning exercise."
Serenity nodded "What are you doing?"
Andrew grinned slightly "That was Tae Kwon Do. We happen to be going to the homeland of the martial art next week at Korea.
Serenity was now amazed "Really? How long have you been doing this?"
Andrew sighed "About five years shorter than racing. I am a black belt in it. Which means I am considered a student who has mastered the art and depending on the degree I can teach it. I haven't tested for the next degree yet but I hope to soon."
Serenity nodded and then two heard a commotion from the Kurosaki plane.
Andrew groaned "Do those two ever stop? Whatever. Good luck today Serenity." Andrew said to Serenity who wished a good luck back.
Andrew climbed back onto the plane and had breakfast then proceeded to shower. After showering he went into his room to get ready. Hitting play on the IPod a familiar riff started playing.

Andrew started getting dressed first putting his fire protectant suit on his face neutral. Meanwhile in their respective room his teammates get ready in their own way.
In the Hendrick plane Serenity was finishing zipping her fire suit. Serenity had to admit her suit showed her figure nicely. Looking towards the door she saw Robert in his black and blue suit gesturing her to get going. She nodded and grabbed her helmet after rolling up her brown hair.
In the garage area the cars being moved onto the grid as the various drivers signed autographs. Dale was getting the most from the female while quite a few were asking for Andrew and Ichigo and several other drivers who were there entertaining their fans.
Out in the stands fans were entering the security gates. Because of the weather they had brought ponchos and umbrellas which were being checked.
All around the track cameras were being positioned in key spots to catch all of the action. They were being prepared for the possible rain with coverings over the cameras.

In the various booths of the T.V stations they were finishing final preparations for their broadcasts. In the American booth Nate was coming in with coffee for him and Jeremy.
"Thanks Jeremy." Nate in his unique tone of voice. "Race 3 here in Malaysia nice little country, can't wait for the American legs though."
"It will be nice to be home but we have to go through other countries first though." Nate said.
Jeremy nodded and took another sip. "I know this is early but who do you think will be in contention at the end."
"Your right that is early." Causing the two to laugh. Nate continued "To be honest I think our two winners this years will compete with our champ and I wouldn't count out Ulquiorra."
"The rookies? Normally you would be all over the Hendrick and Souske teams. What changed?" Jeremy asked.
Nate looked down. "Something in their driving style is telling me that they are on the path to a big breakout. Anyway let's get set up for the broadcast." He said to which Jeremy nodded.
In the Japan Booth, Kommamura and Jushiro were finishing preparations for the race.
"Jushiro, can I ask you something?" The fox man asked.
"Of course, my friend." Jushiro said
"Why did you choose Andrew to replace you? Of all the drivers you could have picked why him?"
Jushiro sighed "When I announced my retirement to my team, Ichigo was the one that put forward Andrew as the driver to replace me but it would have been up to me to choose my replacement. I had heard of him but never saw him race. I got the chance last year during an off week for us. NASCAR was running a race at this track called Talladega so I got tickets for the race and paid attention to him. Throughout the race he battled through the pack with a precision I only saw two other drivers. One was my late teammate Kaien Shiba, the other was in the old videos of Dale Earnhardt Sr's younger years. He pulled off a near miraculous comeback with five laps to go he was in 18th mired in the pack, but he used the track's banking to draft and pass everyone and win. I met with him afterwards and talked at length about his victory and his life. That one conversation convinced me he was the one. So I told the Kurosaki's that he would be my replacement.
Kommamura hummed "So even before he joined up he was impressing people.
Jushiro smiled "Yes I believe they will all go far."
With the drivers
The driver's meeting had been dismissed. Yammamato had warned them about the weather and the other normal warnings and dismissed them. The Hendrick team drivers and crew were gathered next to the wall for their regular prayer service. Serenity was kneeling as she listened to the lecture a little lost in thought. She snapped out of it when John finished his prayer.
She shook her head and went to the driver's introduction area. Robert looking at her with concern.
One Hour before the race
TV announcer: "The World Grand Prix is supposed to swallow rookies whole" (Scenes of the senior drivers alongside their rookie looks, followed by random crashes. "Some rookies fail to live up to the hype and some don't even win their first year. That is convention right?" The T.V flashes rookies taking out their frustrations as a variety of issues befall their cars. "But what are these two rookies doing" The 15 and 91 are quickly shown racing. "What are Ichigo Kurosaki and Andrew Michaels doing?" An image of Ichigo and Andrew flash up. "Winning their first race as a team sweep?" Image of Ichigo, Uryuu and Andrew on the Melbourne podium. "Breaking a long time jinx for their countrymen and women?" Andrew in Abu Dhabi cheering victoriously in a spray of water. "These rookies aren't supposed to win but they are. But as Round Three of the World Grand Prix comes to Malaysia other drivers like defending champ Serenity, the Shark Tier and the cool and collected Ulquiorra are gunning for the three rookies at the top." Images of Serenity Tier and Ulquiorra flashes by. "But anything is possible on a track known for changing as much as the jungle it was built into. They better be careful as the track has many vines. One wrong move can lead from victory" George Schumacher is seen on top of a podium "and a massive crash." A large crash occurs as the wreck comes closer to the camera.
Welcome. To the Jungle." The camera settles on the track entrance with the name Sepang International Circuit as the now seemingly imposing gates loom in the background
(Cue the Fox NASCAR intro music)
As the camera pans around Jeremy opens. "Good Morning, Afternoon and Evening to all those watching at home and around the world. This is round three of the World Grand Prix live from outside Kuala Lampur, Malaysia for the Royal Malaysia Power 400.
Camera pans to Nate and Jeremy. "Hello I'm Jeremy Buck with Nate Jarrett here presenting for the American Fox Racing Network. We begin with highlights from last week
(End music) (Begin Montague)
Nate: We start with the beginning of the race as multiple drivers end up sliding through the first turn. Grimmjow pole sitter looked really good in practice but he got loose in the hairpin and Flippe Massa was able dominate the early part of the race.
Jeremy: Lap 25 a caution comes out and after a round of pit stops Soi Fong led them down but she had battery trouble that eventually forced her out.
Nate: Equipment issues were prevalent throughout the race. Tires going down, engines blowing up, like Grimmjow here, the heat was wearing down on the cars.
Jeremy: Not only the cars but the drivers, half of the drivers were forced to switch drivers changing the complexion of the race.
Nate: It was Tier Harribel's race after that and looked to dominate until her second to last pit stop.
Jeremy: I guess she was a little over eager on the pit and she sped closer to her pit. She was not happy about it. From that point it was anyone's race
Nate: Flippe Massa was leading until lap 80 where Andrew Michaels took over after the American driver got the changes he needed to break away from the pack. Andrew went on to win heat and all and engine steaming with his teammate Ichigo in second and fellow American Serenity Gordon in third.
Jeremy: As we take a look at the standings after two races three of the Kurosaki drivers are leading the pack with Serenity and Tier rounding out the top five. We have our reporters from ours and other networks standing by with three drivers. The first is Kiyone with Andrew our winner from last week
Kiyone: Thanks Jushiro-sempai. Andrew. First off congrats again on the race last time. What are your thoughts about it?
Andrew: (smiles) well still can't believe I got my first win this year and at a track that has given my countrymen so much trouble at."
K: So you think you can continue with it this year.
A: Oh yeah, this Kurosaki-backed machine is going to be in victory lane a few more times this year I believe.
K: Andrew rolls off ninth. Good luck
A: Thanks.
K: Jermaine over to you.
Jermaine: Thanks Kiyone, I have Tier here. Ms. Harribel a tough break last week in Abu Dhabi. How will you recover?
Tier: I have discussed it with my team. I made a mistake and I apologized to them. This Souske Honda will be in victory and much like a shark I will wait for the perfect opportunity and take it for myself." She said walking away
J: Alright I can see she is focused on the race. She rolls off 26th. Let's send it over to my British counterpart who has our defending champ.
The camera turned to a black haired man with blue eyes in and blue and red suit. This is Harry Rowling a descendent from a well-known author of the 21st century J.K Rowling.
Harry: Thanks Jermaine. Miss Serenity, how does it feel after finishing ninth the first race and third the second race and all behind the Kurosaki drivers.
Serenity: Well I must admit they are surprising me every race. It was nice to podium last week and nicer seeing a fellow American winning. Although would have loved to see myself on top of the podium. Who knows? I might be up there this week even though this Hendrick Chevy is in the middle of the pack.
H: Thanks and good luck. Our champ rolls off 20th.
After introductions and a pre-race ceremony the drivers were strapping in. Ichigo was putting in his radio when his father walked up to him with Orihime. Tatsuki was a little bit further back talking to Andrew.
"Ichigo…be careful out there these conditions can change in flash here. Good luck son." Isshin said putting up the net, pounding the roof and walking away.
Orihime looked at him "Be safe Ichigo." She said holding out her hand. Ichigo looked at and raised his hand to cup it as best he could. Orihime quickly enveloped it with her other hand and quickly said a prayer. She released it and walked away. Ichigo looked at his hand and clenched it. 'Orihime...thank you.'
A little bit behind Ichigo, Andrew already had his helmet on but his visor was up. Tatsuki had walked up and actually startled him. He calmed down when he saw Tatsuki. "Hey there, sorry about that" Andrew took a deep breath. "I came to say good luck." Tatsuki said. Andrew looked through his visor. "Thanks." Andrew said as Kisuke walked up. "They are about to give the command. The weather is turning nasty. We have options on all of the tires. We will make the call on changing them.
Andrew nodded as Kisuke pulled up the net. Andrew was now in his own world behind the wheel.
Further back Serenity was sitting behind the wheel after receiving final instructions from her team. 'A reason to drive, what do I race for?' Serenity said as she waited for the command.
Behind her Chad was silently waiting for the command. Yoruichi was kneeling at his window. "You ready Chad." He said nothing but gave her a thumb's up. Yoruichi nodded and rolled up the net.
A few moments later, the grand marshal started the race. "Drivers, START. YOUR. ENGINES!"
The loud roar of the crowd was drowned out as thirty-six engines roared to life. A few moments later they rolled down pit road to begin the parade laps.
Jeremy: With that enthusiastic start Round 3 is set to begin. As they make their way around the close to three and a half mile course let us take a look at the race facts.
Nate: This will be 114 laps to complete this 400 mile track. The fuel window is 24-27 laps. This track is fast and some of the turns are tight so there might be a lot of passing especially with the new surface. Also because of the breaking it is possible brakes could be a factor. The drivers were given some of the softer tires because of the weather but it looks like it could rain.
Jeremy: Key factors to the race and there are three big ones.
Nate: Yes the weather will be a big factor in this race. Also a factor is pit road. There are two roads down the final stretch one is used when only the southern part of the track is used. Pit road entrance is in the middle of the hairpin heading towards the main stretch. The final factor is the speed. It has just been repaved and some of these turns are really tight there could easily be a big wreck.
Jeremy: As they go down the front stretch to complete the first parade lap let's see if we can talk to one of the drivers.
Nate: Let's try our pole sitter. George this is Nate Jarrett from the American Fox Racing Network can you read me?
Inside the red and black number ten the German descendent of Michael Schumacher just got off the radio with his crew chief when heard Nate's voice.
"Hello Nate. A pleasure to hear from you."
"You are on the pole but your first two finishes the last two races leave something to be desire what are you going to do?
"Well I got a great factory backed Ferrari we were great in practice and qualifying was a blast I think I got a good car to win today.
"So you're not concerned about the weather.
"Well whatever happens, happens I happen to like racing in the rain. I train at Nuremburg and other tracks in Germany Europe with a lot of rain so I'm good to go.
"Alright then take care and good luck." "Thanks."
After another lap the pace lights were extinguished as the excitement built. Drivers were cleaning off the tires as a small mist descended on the track. Another two minutes passed and they were on the final stretch. The pace car sped up and entered the pits as the driver were lined up three wide going around the turn. Upon seeing the green flag they all quickly sped up as the track was starting to darken a bit in the rain. All the way down the front stretch the cars went through the gears. As they entered the first turn, Ralph Hamilton was able to beat out George and Marcus Andretti in to the first turn and the downhill turn two. Jason Vettal was able to beat Ichigo who got shuffled behind Flippe Massa. Meanwhile Grimmjow shoved past Rebecca as they exited from the tricky turn 2 and Andrew was on her bumper looking to make a move in turn 4. Further back Serenity had climbed up to 18th getting around Renji and Gin. Chad was battling Gin as they got around turn 6 and down into 7 and 8. The cars straighten out as they entered the slow turn nine. Up with the leaders they were going around Turn 14 and now going top speed towards the last hairpin. George in his Ferrari engine was able to catch Ralph and completed the pass as they went through the turn when Ralph slipped a little bit due to the wet track.
Jeremy: As they complete lap 1 George Schumacher is showing his grandfather's skill as he retakes the lead heading down the front stretch. Further back in the most of the drivers are not settling down as the track is becoming a little bit wetter, some of these cars are getting loose and not because of their cars.
Nate: The track is a little wet more than likely it is because of the mists and a little drizzle. We are near the equator and we are near the beginning of spring so the rainy season will start soon.
Five laps later the drivers have settled down but they were slipping and sliding throughout the field. One of the drivers doing that was Andrew and he slid into 16th.
"Kisuke I know this car is not loose because of the track, my car is loose in and off especially on the right handers.
"What do you want me to do about its five laps in wait a few more laps see how it is. It could be the fuel.
"It might but what I'm not liking is getting passed like this. Please tell me we have intermediates or better gripping primary tire.
"We will see just relax." Kisuke said
Andrew confirmed and went back to racing. A little further up Serenity was in 12th and fighting with Jason Vettal as he was having issues as well. Serenity had just gotten around him and was heading down the last stretch before pit road.
"John this car is tight I have to let off sooner than I want to it is killing my time on the track."
"Easy Serenity just let the car come to you. Weather is going to stay the same throughout so we are going to put you on a little bit harder tires when we come in."
Several laps later the racers settled down somewhat.
Kommamura: As we work lap 19, Hamilton is around Schumacher. Marcus is falling back and is now in eighth. Grimmjow has worked his way up to third. Ichigo in fourth and Rebecca is fifth. Flippe was sixth, Raoul was seventh, Ralph Dillon is surprisingly in ninth and 10th belongs to Ulquiorra.
Jushiro: Pit stops are coming within five laps from now. This pit road is tricky and with this weather it could be even worse to get onto here.
Five laps later the first set of pit stops occurred. Among the first ones was Andrew who had fallen all the way to 21st.
Jeremy: And the first set of stops are starting this time by. Andrew is among the notables coming in on this lap. Jermaine.
Jermaine: Loose all around and the weather is not helping is the word from Andrew to his crew chief Kisuke Urahara. Four tires, a round down on the track bar and they are going with the primary tire looking for any form of grip. A good stop for the 91 and they are on their way.
Nate: He needs more handling and hopefully these changes will help him as he comes off pit road. As we see one driver go off course right at pit road. Looks like it's Mcnish in the 01 Audi.
Jeremy: Looks like he missed where the pit entrance is, a miscommunication from their spotter with the mist in the air. As we see other cars make their way down pit road we are on lap twenty-five. The leader Ralph Hamilton decided to come in on this lap. Kirkland who has gotten around Schumacher and assumes the lead. Gordon is going in behind him. Harry what is going on with our leader.
Harry: A normal stop is being called for Hamilton he is liking his car right now. Four tires fuel cell full of hydrogen fuel and he is down and away. Great stop just under 10 seconds.
Kiyone: Serenity is complaining of a tight race car especially in the left handers. Spring rubber, four tires and fuel for the defending champ.
Kommamura: The cycle of pit stops continue with Hamilton taking over the lead as Kirkland takes her stop. We remain green as the rain is stull drizzling and most of the drivers are on the little bit softer option tires.
Jushiro: These drivers are given two types of tires by Grand Prix officials based on race conditions and vary by hardness and grip. The harder the tire the longer it's going to go but it has less grip than the softer tires which won't go as far. They are also given the intermediates and wet tires for conditions like this but it depends on how the race is going. From my understanding they were given the whites which is number three on grip and the yellows which are number two on grip. We will see how this plays out as the race wears on they might switch to the intermediates.
After the pit stops the race settled down a bit. Schumacher and Hamilton were one two and Kirkland had climbed back to third. Ichigo who came in on lap twenty-six was now fourth fighting off Grimmjow in fifth. Uryuu who came in behind Ichigo was sixth and Marcus Andretti had made it to seventh fighting off Dillon who was eighth. Rounding out the top ten was Jason Webber from the Red Bull team and Michael Busch from Stewart-Haas.
Two spots behind Busch is Serenity who was now had a neutral car. She was about nine seconds back of Ulquiorra and was not content to at least run there for the moment.
"Car is fine but I am too far from Ulquiorra to make a difference. At least the rain is letting up." She said to John.
"Thank heavens for small mercies keep it up." John said.
Further back Andrew was still struggling in the pack.
"Damn it Kisuke this is just not our day." Andrew said irritation growing.
"Relax Andrew we will try to figure it out.
"Did we pack a bad car or something or is it just we planned for better conditions.
"Honestly we will look at it when get back home right now just try to run your race.
"Ten-four." Andrew said as he passed Francesca for 17th.
As the race continued it soon came the time for the second round of pit stops.
Jeremy: As we approach lap 48, Schumacher, Hamilton and Kirkland are still one two and three and now we have a caution on the track one car into the wall at turn 9. It's Bjorn Kristensen's Audi. The leaders are in turn 5.
Nate: That looks like a brake issue that is one of the slower areas as we look at the crash." Sees the car slowing down but because of the wet road Bjorn slides somewhat hard into the barrier. "That looked hard, but the net is down so he is okay. These SAFER Barriers have done their job haven't they?
Jeremy: So while they are cleaning up the wreck, all of the drivers are going to be in this time as there are no lapped cars right now. Busy place on pit road now as the leaders come around down the long stretch towards pit road and here they come. Leaders are going to Jermaine first.
Jermaine: Ichigo is complaining of a tight car so they are going up on the track bar and switching to the harder tire. Four tires and they are away. Meanwhile, Rebecca is going down on the air pressure to help with turning. Kiyone.
Kiyone: Hamilton says the cars is handling great a small air change and changing to the primary tires. Schumacher is saying the car is great changing to the primary tires, four tires and fuel and they are down away and they will not win off pit road.
Kommamura: Race off pit road its Hamilton, Schumacher, Kirkland, Kurosaki, Webber, Ishida, Andretti, Gordon who made a great stop, Busch and Cifer.
As the cars raced off, Andrew was now 19th after getting shuffled back. Ralph Dillon was eleventh, Robert was now 18th, Dale was 16th and Chad was running 21st.
Two laps later they were now getting ready for green flag racing on lap 52.
"Don't know if I can hang with these guys they are really good today dad." Ichigo called out
"It's alright son we just need to find a way to get up there don't worry." Isshin said.
"Good pit stop but we need a little bit more to get to the leaders John." Serenity said.
"We will see let's see what these changes can do." John said.
One lap later the race restarted and the chaos that came with it resumed. As they went through six and headed towards seven a couple cars in the middle of the pack got out of line to attempt to pass. One car jumped the curb and collided with another car as they attempted to go three wide. The car on the outside hit the wall and started spinning forcing the middle car into the other. All the cars behind this checked up and caused more cars to spin and hit the wall. One car flipped upside down and slid into the sand as cars tried to avoid the wreck
At the same time as the collision Andrew was in the middle of passing Gin when he saw smoke and cars slowing down.
"$%&*" Andrew tried to go around him but he ended up turned into the wall causing his head to jerk but was held by the HANS device. Another car hit the side of his car and it came to rest on the inside of turn eight. He vaguely saw another car flipping over him during the wreck, as he turned the engine off and pulled down the net. Looking forward his front end was totaled he was done for the race.
"Great. Kisuke can you hear me?"
"What the heck happened?" He said with a panicked voice.
"Don't know one moment I am passing Ichimaru next I see a lot of smoke we are done sorry."
"It's alright you are okay that's all that matters."
Andrew confirmed and climbed out after unbuckling. Looking around he saw a couple of cars in the sand and one car upside down. Looking closer he could make out the number 66.
"Damn it Chad I'm coming."
Up in the American booth at the time of the wreck (Next three or four line breaks are happening at the same time)
Jeremy: As the leaders head towards nine Schumacher and Hamilton are still fighting—
Nate: Uh oh big trouble turn 7 and 8.
Jeremy: Big wreck. Nine, ten cars in the wreck. One car flipping over multiple cars with damage in the back of the pack.
Nate: Good lord what a big wreck, who is involved. The car flipped over is Yasotora; let's see I see his teammate Michaels in the 91 up against the guardrail his net is already down. Looks like Harribel ran into him and she is climbing out of the car as well obviously not happy.
Jeremy: I see Robert in the sand near Chad significant damage to his car. Let's see who else. Abarai, Kennseth and Busch are tangled up together. I see Rosburg and Mcnish in the grass and Izuru is coming down pit road with significant damage. Other cars with damage I see Earnhardt with some fender damage also see Maria with slight damage. As we see the field drive by the carnage they will be brought down pit road and the red flag will be displayed. No repairs are allowed on the cars under the red flag. We see Andrew running over to the cars in the sand checking on Robert his net is down. Andrew is running over to check his teammate.
On the track Andrew was running across the sand. He checked on Robert who waved him off. He ran over to Chad's car and looked in the side of the car to see Chad at least had the window net down.
"Chad you alright man." Andrew said kneeling near the window.
Chad turned as much as he could in his HANS device. "I am fine though I can't seem to get out."
Andrew sighed. "Your height is not doing favors here. Your escape hatch is on the roof. Can I least help you unbuckle.
"Help me with the wheel." Chad said.
Andrew nodded and reached into help just as the medics rolled up to them.
"Sir, please step away from the car and enter the ambulance." A medic said.
"Just checking my teammate. Looks you are going to have to flip the car." Andrew said as he walked to the awaiting ambulance.
At time of the wreck in the pits
The Kurosaki crew was watching on the screens when the wreck happened. Orihime gasped as the carnage occurred and Tatsuki had to shake her to make sure she stayed professional. Tatsuki video tapped the reactions of the crew most notably of Kisuke who was calmly talking to his driver knowing he was alright and Yoruichi who panicking a little with Chad when they saw his car flip.
Through all of this both girls particularly Tatsuki was worried about the drivers especially Andrew.
'Why am I more concerned with Andrew I should be just as worried for Chad?' Tatsuki thought shaking her head and started heading over to the infield care center.
In the cars
Ichigo was driving around turn 11 when got the call. "Oni-chan there is a big wreck in turn 8. The yellow's out."
"What happened?" Ichigo called out.
"I saw a big cloud of smoke over there and I saw a car flip. I think it was Chad's.
Ichigo's eyes widened behind his helmet. "Is he okay?"
"We don't know son. However, we also know Andrew is wrecked but is out of the car.
Ichigo took a deep breath as the field had been picked up by the safety car.
"Ichigo they are going to red flag this race they are going to bring you down pit road." Isshin said.
Ichigo acknowledged it as the field went through the wreckage zone. Glancing over towards the sand trap he saw Andrew walking away from Chad's car. Andrew must have seen his car because he gave a thumbs up and a nod. Ichigo relaxed at that. "Dad Chad is okay Andrew just checked on Chad." "Got it we will send someone to the care center."
Meanwhile in Serenity's cockpit a similar exchange occurred. "A wreck in turn 7 and 8. Caution is out. It's a big one.
"What happened?"
"Looks like three cars battling in that area ran out of real estate. Robert got into it he's done; Andrew was also in it while Chad flipped over in the sand." John said over the radio
"Is Robert okay?" Serenity asked a little panicky.
"Everyone is fine Serenity. They are going to bring you down pit road the race is being red flagged.
"Roger." Serenity said as she calmed down
Japanese booth minutes after the wreck (Now the scene will go normally)
Kommamura: This is a very nasty wreck though it looks like all of the safety measures did their job. Let's see what happened.
Jushiro: Alright it started around 14th. Let's see. That's Renji in the middle and Michael Kennseth to his left. Michael Busch tried to make this three wide down here. That is just asking for trouble. Busch and Abarai collide and run into Kennseth he bounced back across the track and it dissolves from there.
Kommamura: Another look this shows what happened to Chad. Looks like he was trying to avoid Tier who ran into his teammate Andrew, cut across Robert with his wheels off the ground and he got clipped into the wall which caused him to flip over into the sand. Robert ran into looks like Busch and slid into the grass.
Jushiro: A bad wreck indeed as we see the Chad's car being flipped over and the race officials are helping Chad out of the car he looks okay. The rest of the field is on pit road. Most of the drivers are on their way to infield care center.
At said infield center
Andrew had just been dropped off at the center. He walked in and saw Robert being examined by one of the nurses and saw Tier walking out with a huff
"Mr. Michaels over her please." Said a kind voice. Andrew looked and saw a short woman with Japanese features. Her hair was curiously braided in the front and was wearing wear the head doctor's uniform. Next to her was a tall woman with silver hair and she had a note pad.
"Right doctor." Andrew walked over to the table.
"I am Doctor Retsu Unohana this is my assistant Isane Kotestu. This is just standard procedure after a wreck like the one you were in." The doctor now named Retsu said
"I understand doctor." Retsu began examining his hands and reflexes along with his eyes to make sure he didn't have a concussion.
"So Miss Kotestu any relation to Kiyone." Andrew asked to the silver haired woman.
"Yes she is my sister. But we couldn't be more different if we tried personality wise." Isane said.
"Hm…I guess you being the quiet medic versus her being the boisterous reporter. You know you remind me of one of my teammates Isane." Andrew said as Retsu checked his vitals.
"Please I am not like Ichigo Kurosaki." Isane said in a huff.
"Wasn't talking about him. I was referring to…ah there he is." Andrew said pointing towards the door as Chad had finally walked in.
"Isane why don't you take care of Mr. Yasotora I'm almost done with Mr. Michaels.
"Yes Unohana-sensei." Isane said walking over to check Chad.
"Sensei? You're a teacher, Dr. Unohana?"
"No in Japan sensei can be given to doctors as well. The kanji in the word means person who was born before. So it can be given to a lot of different people. But teachers and doctors are the most prominent." Unohana said as she walked to her medical table.
"I understand that now." Andrew said
Unohana smiled. "Alright no lasting damage. Your free to go."
"Thanks Doctor. Hopefully I don't need to come in here too often."
"That's all I hope for." Unohana said as Andrew stood up. The driver looked over to Chad who was being examined by Isane. "I will see you at the garage Chad." He said waving over to him and walking out to the mass of reporters who were talking to Robert.
Chad nodded as Isane examined him. She brushed his hair aside to check for a concussion. She saw his eyes and for whatever reason she blushed a little bit at his piercing gaze.
"A…alright, Mr. Yasotora your good to go." Isane stuttered. Chad grunted and sat up. Isane was about to walk away when she tripped over the stand. Chad caught her and the momentum dropped both of them back causing her to fall over him and causing him to fall on his back with her on top. This got both of them to blush a bit until they heard a throat being cleared.
"Isane." Retsu said still with that smile but the way she said it caused Isane to shiver.
"If you want to see Mr. Yasotora please do so after the race." Retsu said walking away.
Isane blushed and sat up allowing the big man to sit up and start walking away.
"Wait." Chad turned around. Isane was writing something. "I don't know why but something about you interests me. Here, this is my number call me some time I'd like to get to know you."
Chad looked at the sheet. "Thanks, Ms. Kotestu." And walked away leaving Isane in a thoughtful mood.
Outside Andrew had given his interview and was about to walk back to the plane when Chad walked out and the reporters had swarmed him to get his story. After a few minutes they left Chad alone he walked over.
"Hey Chad you alright?" Andrew
"Yeah I am alright. Hopefully I will be better next week." Chad said.
Andrew nodded and they both started towards the garage. He then noticed a piece of paper.
"What's this?" Andrew pointed at the paper in his hand.
"Number for the doctor that treated me."
Andrew smiled and laughed "You sly dog." The two made their way back to the planes. Once there they saw Kisuke and his crew along with Yoruichi and Chad's crew looking over the cars. Tatsuki was there video-taping the wreckage. They walked up and did a short segment on the wreck.
"So any way we can fix this?" Andrew said as taping started.
"Other than the fact this race is red flagged this car and engine is totaled we are packing both of your cars up and retiring them."
"Ugh not the best day huh. Just glad it's over for me. Tell Isshin I will be in the plane." Andrew said walking away. Kisuke sighed and looked at the car determining what to salvage.
Tatsuki ended the taping and watched him walk into the personnel plan with a little concern.
A half hour later Andrew had showered and was changing into his casuals and was putting his shirt on over a pair of blue jeans when a knock came on his door. He put it on and walked over to the door. Opening the door he saw Tatsuki who had changed out of her suit into a t-shirt and shorts.
"Hey Tatsuki what's up."
'Nothing just seeing what's up." She said.
"Ugh…just a little tired." Andrew said letting her in. He turned on his T.V as he sat on the bed. The race looked to be going back to yellow soon.
"Well I guess I will be watching like normal people." He grinned. Tatsuki was amazed at the turnaround in his attitude.
"Pull up a seat this race ought to be good." Andrew said. Tatsuki nodded and pulled up the seat.
Back on track (Sorry red flag means no racing I had to fill it somehow. I only plan to throw the red flag once maybe twice more throughout the rest of the fic it's really rare in any level of racing.)
Race officials had finally pulled the red flag and allowed the drivers to head down pit road to resume their racing.
Jeremy: After a half-hour of red the field is restarted and now they will get a couple of laps before they go back to green.
Nate: All that time idling has taken the heat out of the tires and running over the debris so some of these drivers despite being just in might come in again. The conditions have dried out so some of the drivers might go with the harder tire compound now.
A lap later all of the drivers came in for a pit stop. Just about every one took the opportunity to change their tires. The order in was the order out with a few exceptions. Serenity moved up to 8th and Uryuu fell to ninth. Still on pit road was Dale who was still trying to repair enough to keep him racing. Maria was able to get it taped up and Gin who also got a little bit of damage was determined to not impact his driving. The front five were still Schumacher, Hamilton, Kirkland, Kurosaki and Webber.
Two laps later they were getting ready to go back racing. Final instructions were given to the crew.
"We have you on the harder compound let's see if we can get you to the front." Isshin told his son.
"Right but the way the front is going to be really tough for those two at the front have been the best cars all day dad." Ichigo called out.
"Long way to the finish Serenity. Two more stops at least. Try to stretch it as far as you can. We have you on the harder compound. Let's see if we can get you to the finish." John said.
"Right, let's hope the changes you made work." Serenity said from the eighth position.
American Booth
Jeremy: As we restart the race on lap 56 after the red flag what is going through these drivers minds.
Nate: Well this could be seen as like a halftime for the field, they cooled off, the field is shrunk a bit we might see a bit more moving around during the race.
Jeremy: They are down the pit stretch and the race resumes one lap from half way on lap fifty-six. Schumacher and Hamilton lead the field down the just under a mile straight to turn 1.
Japan Booth
Kommamura: With the field shrunk the urgency is reduced as the field goes through turns 1 and 2. Webber is battling Kurosaki for 4th.
On the track, Webber was able to pass Ichigo by taking the better line into turn 4. Meanwhile Serenity was battling Andretti into turns 7 and 8 kicking up some of the speedy dry to clean up any fluids from the wreck. Serenity completed the pass as they entered turn 9 when Andretti had a worse line into the turn. Serenity climbed through the gears going through 10 and 11.
A few laps later the front 6 were the same but Serenity was gaining ground on Uryuu. Meanwhile up at the front Schumacher and Hamilton were dueling it out until Hamilton got loose in turn 14 and messed up his entry onto the straight. Schumacher took advantage and got around him to take the lead. A little further back about 12 seconds back Serenity was battling Uryuu. They came down the last stretch and Serenity having the slightly better car was able to get around him before the hairpin. Her next target was Ichigo who was now towards the end of the same stretch Serenity was entering.
"John what did you do to my car it drives amazing right now."
"We put the harder compound on and we also adjusted the wedge. With the drier conditions we set up for the track being slick."
"Right. I think we can win this but we need some strategy."
"Right I am trying to figure out the last pit stop. At the current rate we will be four to six laps short on fuel."
"Should I start conserving?
"No keep it up for now." John replied.
"Roger." Serenity acknowledged.
Several laps passed since the conversation. Serenity had finally caught up to Ichigo and passed him on lap 76. Ichigo was still alright handling wise but the cars in front of him had better cars. A couple laps ago, Dale was black flagged and parked ending his day because he could not keep minimum speed.
American booth
Jeremy: As we approach the pit window strategy is being talked about up and down pit road.
Nate: The window is going to be thirty four laps from the finish. Unless there is another caution they will need to come in one more time within the last ten laps.
On the track, the leaders were taking lap 79 and like the commentators said they were talking when to make the last pit stop.
"We are going to be seven laps short at this rate." George's crew chief said.
"Ichigo we are going to have to come in at seven laps try to conserve as much as you can." Isshin called out.
"Serenity can you stretch it to lap 83." John said coming up with an idea.
"Yeah I can slow up a bit." Serenity said passing the line for lap 80.
"If we can stretch it lap 83 then we only need four laps of conservation. That can easily be made up on the track."
Serenity widened her eyes. "Alright I think I can do it."
Two laps later Hamilton and Schumacher came in letting Rebecca take over the lead. Webber came in that lap letting Ulquiorra move up to second as most of the rest of the front runners had come in.
On the designated lap both Serenity and Rebecca came in.
Japan booth
Kommamura: The two front runners finally come in on lap 83 as they tried to stretch this as much as they could. Kiyone what is up with these crews?
Kiyone (Cars in the back ground) John Brant is saying this will be the final stop for the 24. Four tires, a small air pressure change and packed it full of fuel. Making sure they have enough and she is down and away in twelve seconds.
Kommamura: It seems Serenity is going to play the conservation game. Can she make from here at lap 84?
Jushiro: Whatever the strategy they are employing they better hope that no cautions come out between now and the last lap. That's thirty laps almost 100 miles left.
As the race wound down Serenity was being semi-conservative. She was able to move up into fifth getting around Jason Webber. Now she was making sure she conserved enough for the end of the race.
Ten laps left in the race the drama picked up considerably up and down pit road.
American Booth
Jeremy: Ten laps to the finish. Have the leaders saved enough fuel to the end of the race?
Nate: We are starting to see some cars peel off to get fuel. The leaders are trying to stretch it as far as they can.
Two laps later, Ichigo came in and took on fuel enough for the finish giving up 6th place.
Japan booth
Kommamura: And Ichigo is coming we knew he couldn't go as far as the others right now. The leaders are still conserving.
Jushiro: Rebecca is saying she is coming in next time by. Serenity is up to fifth as she gets around Webber.
On track two more laps later, with five laps left, Hamilton was forced to come in, Schumacher was still leading. Serenity was steadily gaining ground on Schumacher who was trying to save as much as he could.
American Booth
Jeremy: Schumacher is really trying to stretch this fuel run as much as he can. Serenity is gaining ground. Four laps left as they come to line.
Nate: It's now six seconds through the sector Serenity is really gaining now.
Jeremy: At this rate she might catch him. The next cars in line is Hamilton and Andretti they are now reaching the line about twenty seconds back of Gordon.
Nate: Five seconds through section 2 as they go through turns 11and 12. Serenity could do it.
Jeremy: Down the first stretch towards pit road…and Schumacher is coming down the road he cannot go any further on fuel. Serenity takes the lead with three laps to go.
In her car Serenity was grinning "Finally in the lead let's hope this holds out." "You have an 18 second lead on Hamilton; Schumacher just finished his stop he is right behind him. I think you can let up a bit you can make it to the end.
"10-4 time to end this." Serenity said as she entered turn 14.
Japan booth
Kommamura: Our defending champion is now two laps away from winning this as she comes around to complete lap 112.
Jushiro: She had a difficult car at the beginning of the race but that red flag is probably what she needed to adjust correctly for the remainder of the race.
Kommamura: She is coming up on some slower traffic as she enters turns 7 and 8 she will probably only catch one or two of them before this race is out. As she goes around turn 11 we have a slower car in turn four. That is Archie Stewart. He looks like he has engine trouble.
Jushiro: That could be bad if the caution were to come out now they would have extra laps added to the race to make sure this ended under green.
Kommamura: That looks like a moot point as Serenity passed the line to start the final lap next flag ends the race. As she drives through turn four, Archie leaving smoke. Serenity goes into turn 7 and 8, and caution on the speedway Archie has blown up. The race is over Serenity has won this race.
In her car you could hear her excitement as she slowed down through turn ten.
"Alright we won this race." Serenity said pounding on the steering wheel.
"Don't be excited yet you need to finish this."
Serenity confirmed as she raced through the turns and came down the pit straight see the flag man wave the yellow and checkered flags.
American Booth
Jeremy: Serenity has crossed the line she has won the race in Malaysia what a finish and what a strategy by the champion.
Nate: She stretched the fuel and it paid off for her as she claims her first win of the season.
Serenity was allowed to use the road used for races on the Northern circuit and was brought back onto the front stretch. She did her victory burnouts and then came down pit road the reverse way and proceeded towards victory lane.
When she got there the first two people to greet her was John and Robert. John shook her hand as she killed the engine and took off her helmet and seat belt. When Robert walked up she smiled.
"Hey there glad you are alright." Serenity said.
"Glad to see you won. Now I think the public wants to see their princess.
Serenity nodded and proceed to climb out. With a jubilant yell she waved to the fans as they cheered her.
She climbed down as Jermaine walked over.
"Here we are with Serenity. Serenity that fuel run was tremendous how does it feel to get a win now?"
Serenity smiled "That fuel run was crazy. I am really thankful for the engines they were able to go further on fuel then we envisioned. As for the win, it feels great to do it now rather than we need it.
"One last question and we will let you go back to celebrating you think you can compete with so many good drivers this year.
"We will see but if they want this title they will have to go through me." Serenity laughed.
"Thanks Serenity."
Serenity nodded and went back to cheering including the celebratory champagne spray. As the race in Malaysia comes to a close the chaos of the season is only beginning what will happen in round 4? Find out on Bleach Grand Prix

Tracks mentioned
Talladega Superspeedway: A track in the state of Alabama in the United States. A very large and fast track it is one of the fan favorites in NASCAR. Because of the possible speeds a special plate has to be put on the carburetor to cut down the oxygen fuel mix.
Flags
Red Flag: The track is too dangerous for the race to resume under normal conditions. Most notably this is used if the track becomes too wet or as seen in this race a huge wreck blocks the track. I am using the NASCAR rule in which you can't work on the car under those conditions.
SAFER Barrier: Short for Steel And Foam Energy Reduction Barrier. This is designed to reduce the force of an impact in the walls where it is installed. In theory this cuts down on the possibility of injury in a wreck.
Preview: As the World Grand Prix heads to Korea, a personal mission for one of our heroes becomes a possible distraction. Then as the race begins equipment issues plague the teams as they go to a track that is somewhat different than the ones raced so far. Who will survive, find out.
