Chapter 8: Chaos in Korea
When we last left off, Serenity was celebrating her win at Malaysia. As for the Kurosaki-Ishida team, Chad and Andrew were caught up in a 10 car wreck halfway through the race. Also caught up in the wreck was their ally Robert Johnson who was disappointed in his run. While in the infield care center, Chad had a run in with a nurse named Isane, Kiyone's sister and gotten her number. Overall it was a mixed day for both teams with Serenity doing the celebrating.
Now they were on their way back the next morning to the Kurosakis headquarters and were in the middle of the post-race meeting and they figured to do it at the same time with both teams. Andrew though was the quietest and may have been because of his embarrassment of what had happened the previous night.
Flashback
The group had returned to personnel plane in the early evening. After changing and showering Ichigo checked on Andrew. As he was about to knock, Orihime came up to him a little worried.
"Orihime what's wrong?" Ichigo asked.
"I can't find Tatsuki. I know she can handle herself but she supposedly came back to plane." Orihime said concerned.
Ichigo just looked at her. "We'll find her don't worry let's see if Andrew has seen her." Ichigo said and then knocked on the door. "Hey Andrew you in there?" No response. He knocked harder. "Andrew!" Ichigo yelled. He tried the door and found it open. He looked through the door thinking the T.V kept him from hearing the knocking. When both Ichigo and Orihime stepped into the room they had to keep themselves from laughing. On Andrew's bed was Andrew and Tatsuki conked out. Tatsuki, the tough little tomboy that could punch out anyone, was curled like a kitten against the male who was dead to the world. Orihime slipped out and grabbed a camera and turned on the lights to take the picture of the two sleeping like a married couple. The camera click evidently woke up Andrew and Tatsuki. Groggily the male looked and saw Orihime and Ichigo struggling to hold their laughter in. Tatsuki woke up shortly after that and when she saw Andrew in the same bead she panicked and fell out of the bed. At this Ichigo couldn't hold it and busted out laughing. He started running when Tatsuki growled and started chasing after him. Andrew yawned.
"Hey Orihime what's going on?" Orihime just laughed and told him what happened which got him to sputter and blush.
Flashback End
Now Andrew was sitting in the meeting on the plane as they heading back to Japan. It had been awkward around Tatsuki and the group noticed it but ignored it. Off to the side Tatsuki was filming behind the camera but her thoughts were on happened the previous day.
Isshin and Jonathan were wrapping up the meeting. "Alright people wake up I know it's early but this last bit of information regards the next race. John if you please."
John nodded and pressed a couple of buttons. A hologram of the Korean International Circuit appeared.
"The Korea International Circuit, 3.5 miles, 5.62 kilometers long that is part temporary part permanent, a hybrid circuit. The temporary part is in the harbor with many of the stands and the pits located in the same area. It is also quite a dangerous history fortunately no deaths. Both the pit road entrance and exit are in the racing line so please be careful around these. From the start line you go down into a slow turn 1 and accelerate into turn 2. After the turn the longest stretch of an Asian circuit follows at 1.2 kilometers or three-quarters of a mile that is great for setting up a pass. That leads to the slowest part at turn three. A quick change through the gears and then slowing down again for a chicane turns 4-6. Then the track opens up for turns 7-9 before having to break again for turn 10. Be careful this is on a down-hill incline. The rest of the circuit between 11 and 17 is modeled after a street circuit. Turn 11 eleven is a flat left hander into the right handed 12. 13, a left hander, picks up a little speed into turn a right hander at 14 but then slows into 15 and 16 which are two left handers. Lastly possibly the trickiest part is 17. During green flag stops the race line is right near the pit entrance. So drivers entering the pit might take up the line so Yuzu, Brandon please be in communication with the other spotters and keep track of positions in the race." Yuzu and a black haired man in grey t-shirt and blue jeans nodded.
John finished up the presentation "After 17 it's a speed run through 18 and the pit straight. Pit exit is at the apex of turn 2. So be careful guys dismissed."
With that the meeting broke up. Andrew waited for the people to depart before approaching Tatsuki who was putting her camera equipment away
"Tatsuki, can I talk to for a minute?" Tatsuki looked at him and then told Orihime she will catch up with her. When the red head left she turned to the young man.
"Look about yesterday." Tatsuki held up her hand.
"I know. We were both tired and we just happen to fall asleep on the bed." Tatsuki said with a sigh.
Andrew then laughed sheepishly. "I guess this is a bad time to say I'm clingy in my sleep." An awkward silence enveloped the two. Tatsuki broke the ice.
"Listen, can we forget this ever happened?" Tatsuki asked.
Andrew chuckled "You read my mind. Now that is taken care of, I got to get focused for something in Korea that isn't race related."
Here Tatsuki was intrigued, "Why what's going on?"
Drew looked up at the ceiling. "Well you know I'm a black belt in Taekwondo right? Well I am actually a 2nd degree black belt. I got it three years ago and my sensei called me a few weeks ago."
Flashback: after the Melbourne race
"So Dad any other business I need to be aware off?" Andrew said to William.
"Uh….Yes. I got a call from Master Kim yesterday. He wanted to know how you were doing with your training."
"Oh…uh…well I've been keeping up but you know the chaos the beginning of the season is."
"Well he wants you to call him. It must be really important if he wants you to call him."
"Alright I will as soon as we are done here. Anything else then?"
William shook his head. "Nope. I hope you have a good season sport see you when the series comes to the Glen.
"Thanks Dad love you." Andrew said as the call ended. He looked at the number he wrote down and dialed it. A few rings later an aged Asian man appeared on the screen.
"Hello?"
"Master Kim. It's your student Andrew."
"Oh Andrew. How are you?" The wizened man said sitting up.
"Everything is fine Master. I understand that you need me for something."
"Ah yes. I understand you are driving in World Grand Prix. Well I have a proposition for you. You are approaching time for test on Third degree black belt."
Andrew widened his eyes. It had been a couple of years since he got the second belt. Now his master wants him to test for the third.
"Master Kim I understand that but I can't just come to that side of world to take a test. As much as I love the art I just don't have the time right now.
"I understand that. But here is where the proposition comes in. Do you race anywhere near Yangem, Korea?
Andrew widen his eyes. "Yes one of the races this year is at that race track." Andrew looked at the race calendar. "Yes the weekend of the 27th of March. It's part of the far-east swing early in the season.
Master Kim smiled. "I have connections with a couple of masters in Korea. I can arrange the test the week before.
"That would be great sir. I won't let you down."
Flashback end
"And that is why I have practicing in between sessions and at the mansion. My test is scheduled for the 24th in a town about ten miles outside of where we are racing. I've already talked to Isshin about sending me ahead of the others."
Tatsuki nodded. "I'm sure you will do great."
Andrew smiled and blushed a little. "Anyway thanks for hearing me out." He turned to leave. "You know…I seem to recall something soft on my side that at first struggled then snuggled into me. I wonder what that was." He said with a knowing smile. He laughed as a sputter Tatsuki chased after him.
Three days later March 24th
After landing and getting some rest in Japan, Andrew quickly packed up and left on the 23rd. His teammates caught wind of the plan and with some arguing convinced him to let them come along. Now they were traveling outside the town where the race was being held early in the morning. Along with Andrew, his teammates, the camera crew and Ichigo's family tagged along in two cars.
It was eight o'clock as they weaved through the mountains to where Andrew would have his test. Tatsuki was driving Andrew's car as he had to mentally prepare himself for the day. The rest of the crew was sleeping with the exception of Isshin who was driving the other car.
Tatsuki looked over at Andrew. "Hey." This broke him of his thoughts. "You alright?" She asked concerned. Andrew sighed. "Yeah. Just nervous. I called my teacher to get more details apparently I am not the only one coming. Seven others including one other American are showing up. The rest are Korean nationals and I don't think they will appreciate an American showing them up." He said smiling. The GPS beeped indicating they arrived.
They saw the cars off to the side indicating some of the other testers had arrived. They got out of the cars and Andrew grabbed his bag. They walked up and saw an aged man with flat black hair wearing a white uniform with black trimming and a black belt. He saw the car approached and recognized the brown hair. He started walking towards the fairly large group.
"Andrew." Andrew perked up and saw his master. He bowed respectfully. "Master Kim I am glad you came." The man nodded and noticed his entourage. "I see you brought your friends."
"Yes sir. These are my teammates, Ichigo, Uryuu and Chad. Ichigo's father Isshin, his twin sisters Yuzu and Karin. And the camera crew traveling with the team, Orihime and Tatsuki."
They all bowed or nodded at the man as they were being introduced. The aged man nodded. "It's nice to have support. Come we have a couple of hours before the test." The man led the group through the door. The dojo was large indicating many people had trained her. They were in a small room off to the side so they could put their shoes away.
"Changing room is in back. Go and Come back and warm up." Andrew nodded and went to the locker room. Master Kim turned to the group. "You may sit in dojo but when time comes please be quiet these are very hard tests." The group nodded. Tatsuki and Orihime pulled out their cameras to get some shots of the dojo.
In the locker room, Andrew was sitting quietly in the locker room. Evidently he saw the other potential testers and predictably he was sneered at. He was breathing quietly when a tap on his shoulder snapped him out of it. He looked ad saw a black haired gentleman with European features, about two to three years younger than him in a similar out fit to him
"Hey there, I thought I was the only American here. Richard Simpson, Seattle, Washington from USC."
Andrew smiled. "Andrew Michaels, Jacksonville Florida, Online grad from Florida State.
Richard's eyes widened. "Wait as in the race car driver? Oh man I can't believe I meet a celebrity I didn't know you practiced this.
Andrew chuckled "Well I did it for the coordination but in between races I worked my way up. Now I'm here for the third degree belt which hopefully means I can teach it one day."
Richard smiled. "I can see you as a teacher for some reason. Anyway let's get on out there and practice."
Andrew nodded and went out of the locker room. They bowed to the dojo and went about warming up and working on their forms. In between forms, Tatsuki and Orihime interviewed Master Kim, Andrew and Richard. The latter was embarrassed at the camera time but got through it.
At ten o'clock the grandmaster called the students to order. They were lead through the warm-ups and then each master and student was called up individually to discuss their candidacy. Andrew was called up fourth.
"Submitted to this council, Andrew Michaels, of Franklin's Woods, New Jersey." One of the proctors said.
"That is correct sir." Andrew said. His friends noticed that he was all business which was unusual for such a laid back guy.
"Began at age 10. Reached blue belt at age and Red by fourteen. Waited four years before trying for Black belt. Why the delay?" Another proctor asked.
Andrew sighed. "It is not because I slacked off. If you are not aware I am a race car driver by profession sir. The delay was partly because of my racing schedule and the fact that it took off after I turned 16. That combined with my school work and I thought about giving it up." He said shocking those in the room.
"But what changed?" A third proctor asked
Andrew smiled. "I managed my time well. And I made up training in the dojo with training at the track in between races and at home."
The first proctor asked one final question. "What do you use Tae kwon do in?
Andrew stood up straight. "I use it not in anger sir. I use it for fixing my coordination. I use it for protecting my family. The creed of Tae Kwon Do, The way of the feet and hand, is what helps me in my profession, auto racing as they need the perfect coordination of both to drive the best I can .It is my hope that my fame right now as a Grand Prix driver, I hope to inspire people to this art. I also take it because of what I have sir." The proctors looked interested. "I am autistic. As you are aware, they have poor social skills and coordination. I originally took it to help with that. But I found it fun and I continued to use it today as a way for my body to be loose in the race car. Tae Kwon Do changed my life and I hope I can bring it honor with my actions. Andrew said.
The grandmaster nodded. "Very well. You may be seated." Andrew bowed and went back in line to watch the rest of the students. Tatsuki noticed his hand was twitching badly and grabbed it. This caused him to look at her and blush a bit but he calmed down. Tatsuki smiled and let go gently also blushing a bit.
After all of the candidates went, they were called up to perform their katas and individual kicking steps. When Andrew was called up he let out a sigh and stepped up. He was given to do six different ones of various difficulties. His easiest one was one he learned as a purple belt and then worked his way up the one he learned at the black belt level. All the while he kept a laser focus on the task so that when he ended his final kata and kicking step with little to no flaws the crowd was impressed and clapped really loudly. He bowed to crowd and the masters and walked back.
"You did great man." Richard said. Andrew grinned and pounded their fists. When Richard was called they wished him good luck. He went through his moves with a flurry after seeing his fellow American do well. He made a couple of mental mistakes but overall he and Andrew had impressed the proctors the most. This incited the Korean students the most. One thought went through their collected minds. 'How dare these foreigners do better than us.'
The next challenge was breaking stuff with various moves. This is what worried Isshin the most. If Andrew hit the blocks wrong he could seriously break his hand or feet. Andrew stood up and walked to the middle of ring.
"Hello again Mr. Michaels. First we will start with wood blocks." The proctor said. The assistants nodded. They grabbed three wooden planks and held up in an angle.
"Roundhouse kick." The proctor said. Andrew nodded and stood in the stance. A couple warm up kicks and then with a loud cry broke through the squares. His friends cheered as he bowed. He went through four other kicks as well each splitting up to four squares. All this time Andrew looked as confident as he was on the track. Eventually they came to possibly the scariest part for Andrew and for his teammates and especially Isshin. The concrete and brick blocks. One at a time the students went up to attempt to break it. All of them got the bricks as many as eight or nine but when the concrete blocks came only two of them, including Richard broke through. This put a huge dent in their chances for promotion for those who failed. Andrew was the last one at the bricks. He gulped as he approached the stack. Looking at his friends he hesitantly smiled and approached it. Isshin was chewing his lips he was hoping nothing breaks. Orihime was concerned that Andrew might get hurt. Tatsuki though had her heart beating fast.
'What is this feeling. Why is him getting hurt making me feel this way?' Flashes of his wreck at Malaysia went through her head and in a rare moment she started praying.
Andrew calmed himself and mentally focused. With a couple of warm-ups he prepared his hands and then thrust towards bricks breaking the stack. Andrew breathed slowly and bowed. He moved to the concrete block.
He breathed again and mentally prepared himself for the task at hand. He stood ready and with a roar he sent his elbow at the block. Only to not break it. He cursed himself as he saw the other students snicker. He tried again and cursed when he failed again. Now he was becoming frustrated. He asked for time to let him gather his thoughts.
He was calmed down and thought what the problem was. He realized that he always had difficulty with this task for some reason but he did it before. What had changed? He widened his eyes. He was a racer now. He grinned as he realized what he to do.
He stepped up and relaxed.
'Alright this is just like going through a turn. First adjust your line to enter the turn.' He set his stance. 'Next break and shift gears.' Placing his hands on the block he twisted back. 'Control your entry into the turn' he raised his hand. 'Once you hit the apex accelerate' he started rearing back and thrust forward. 'Finally follow through' with a loud roar he through his fist. It broke the block cleanly stunning his detractors and causing loud cheering from his friends. He bowed to the proctors and stood proud. They dismissed him and he sat down and finally let the adrenaline wear off. He winced as his hand felt a little sore now. He shook off the pain.
After everyone one last portion of the test came. It was the sparing portion. They were given ten minutes to go grab their gear. This would full contact sparing so this was to reduce the possibility of injury.
Andrew came back out with most of his gear set to go but he always had difficulty with the back. So he asked someone to help him and got Tatsuki to do so. Tatsuki tied the belt behind him. He smiled and thanked her causing her to blush a bit.
They were now doing four one on one spars. After the first three in which they were very acrobatic and skilled it was Andrew's turn. Richard had gone before him and pounded his Andrew's fist before he stood up. He was against one of the bigger students who looked displeased to see him. Andrew gulped and placed his protective helmet on. Bowing to his opponent they got into their stances. Andrew's was a bit closer than his opponents indicating he was more defensive which to his friends was unusual in that he was pretty offensive but not as aggressive as say Ichigo.
Andrew started hopping on his feet. "What's he doing?" Orihime whispered. "He's keeping his body moving. Doing that will allow him to react as needed." Richard explained.
In the ring the opponents were sizing each other up. Then the big guy launched a couple of kicks which Andrew ducked out of the way and launched a counter attacks which were blocked. Thirty seconds passed as they tried to get inside each other's guard. The stalemate ended when Andrew went to block a round house kick and went into attack. His opponent though brought the foot back and nailed him in the head sending him to floor.
This got protests from their group. Richard though stopped them. "Unfortunately that is a legal target. Kicks to the head are worth three points. (In Competitions it is so no complaining this is brutal)
Andrew stood up and shook it off and reset his positioning. He looked more determined. They went at each other but now Andrew was making more mistakes. His opponent took advantage after a minute and nailed him with a kick to the midsection knocking him to floor.
Andrew coughed as he caught his breath. He didn't feel any breaks but he was going to be sore for a while after that. He looked at his friends and saw their worried looks. He noticed Tatsuki looking extremely worried. 'Tatsuki are you that worried for me? No I can't surrender now. I refuse to let them see me in pain.' With some difficulty he stood back up. His opponent was incredulous he was still able to stand after a blow like that. They reset was told there was ninety seconds left. Andrew though had a fire that would not be quenched when the spar restart the larger opponent looked to finish it off with one punch. Andrew blocked and hit him with a punch scoring a point. The man looked livid and tried to attack again. Andrew thought started blocking almost like he was in a car. He saw his steering wheel and using his feet he 'turned' where the car in front of him was. The kick landed at the side scoring another two points. Thirty seconds left and they were now going after each other with frenzy. All sorts of kicks and punches were thrown. The endgame came when Andrew blocked with a side kick with his leg. He planted and sent a back kick at his opponent. He was blocked but he continued his momentum and swung the right leg at the head hitting and knocking his opponent down. The proctor called the match. Andrew had clearly won with the last-second kick. They came to the center and bowed to each other and the proctor. Andrew wearily walked backed to the group and sat down. Isshin instantly brought out a mini flash light to check for a concussion. He also checked for chest injuries but was cleared on both.
"You look okay for now. Let me check you out later. Go they are waiting for you."
The eight students stood at the center for the grandmaster to speak. After consulting with the test proctors he stood up to speak.
"To have come this far is a journey that begins at any age. For most of you that journey began at young age." He said motioning to the group. "For some other obligations would made others give up." He said nodding towards Andrew. "To have come this far is like a river that began as a small stream in the mountains. For only three of you that river's journey is about to enter the ocean where you may spread the teachings you have been taught to others. For others you may try again until you succeed. For now though I would like to ask that the following step forward. Byung-Yung Lee please step forward." A young man about seventeen years old, who was the only one who hadn't sneered at Andrew stepped forward. "Your abilities and your honor have taken into account you have proven you know the art and its principles. Congratulations." The young man was in tears as he bowed to the masters and let him removed the belt and place the proper one on. Andrew noted subtly that his parents were watching and taking pictures. The boy bowed and stepped back.
"Richard Simpson." The young man was shocked. Andrew had to nudge him forward.
"You an American who had traveled far and yet managed to train wand dedicated yourself. Despite your hardships you haven't given up and now are rewarded for your work." Richard was holding back his tears as the belt was put on him. Andrew saw Richard's master smile. He wondered where his parents were but he wouldn't press the issue.
Richard stepped back in line. The grandmaster was silent and the looked over to Andrew.
"Andrew Michaels."
Andrew's eyes widened. He took a couple of shaky steps forward.
"Your journey was long. You could have given up taking this art. You could have focused on your job. But you did not give up. You trained where there wasn't a dojo. You practiced where the noise was loudest. You bring honor and integrity to this art and I wish you the best of luck both in life and in your pursuit of your goals. Turn around.
Andrew was in complete tears but he kept his composure. The belt fastened he turned and bowed thanking him.
The rest of the group bowed to the grandmaster as he led them through the cool down exercises and ended the session. Andrew let out a whoop as the spectators cheered.
"Thanks guys for supporting me." He said as he shook hands with everyone. Richard walked over with his sensei.
"Congrats man. I am just as surprised I passed as you are you passed. Oh this is Master Ryu."
Andrew bowed to him out of respect which got him to chuckle. "You are an interesting man Mr. Michaels but you look right with that belt around you." Ryu said.
Richard spoke next. "Master Ryu has been there since day one and raised be as his own when my mom passed away. I am thankful for all I had thanks to him.
Master Kim walked over. "Andrew." He turned to his sensei. To his surprise his sensei bowed to him. "You have succeeded every expectation I saw in you. When you started you were nothing but a green rookie who looked like he didn't belong. Something in your eyes told me to keep you. Now I regret every doubt. I am happy to have been your teacher."
Andrew smiled. "You always will be my teacher. It's just now I can pass it on." Master Kim returned the smile.
After changing out of his uniform he said good bye to his teacher with the promise to visit when he had a break. Richard walked with the group outside.
"So where do you go from here Richard?" Andrew asked as placed his bag in the trunk.
Richard sighed. "I don't know finish my degree obviously. I plan on going into medicine. Anyway good luck with the rest of series."
"Thanks." Andrew smiled and shook his hand
Richard waved towards the car as it left. He smiled knowing he would take this memory to his grave.
Andrew was in the car smiling. "Hey guys how about a celebration lunch before we head back." He said to the young adults in the car they all agreed and left for celebrations.
Next Day Qualifying
The drivers were now out doing qualifying. Uryuu had gone in the first session and won the session. The track or at least the permanent part of the track had been repaved and the track record was close to breaking. Ichigo was out on the track and Andrew was gearing up for the third session. He would be going out with Robert, Jason Vettal, Kira, Archie, and Grimmjow.
As the second session closed the other drivers, Ichigo rolled up and stepped out. He took a look at scoring tower and scowled slightly. He was currently third behind Uryuu. Surprisingly, Alexandra was now at the top of the board just a couple of tenths off of the track record.
Andrew walked over to him as he stepped out of the car.
"How's the track?" Andrew asked.
Ichigo grinned. "It is really fast today, the Chevys and Fords are going to be best from what I saw of Alexandra. But some of them are having trouble on the street like section so be really careful. The cool weather seems to be helping today.
Andrew nodded and walked back to the car and strapped in. His car had been great in practice but this was the first real test of the car. At the command, he fired up the engine and pulled out onto the track for his warm-up lap. At the green flag he picked up and almost immediately got around Ulquiorra who was in front of him. He started blasting down the track and had gotten around Vettal in turn 11. The first lap was good enough for fourth but he wouldn't let up as he blazed through the track. The second lap was one tenth off which got everyone on pit road excited as it could be the lap that breaks the record. Andrew went another lap around and when got through the final turn and crossed the line he could not contain his happiness.
"Kisuke what the heck did you put in this car it feels great."
"We have barely touched it since we got it off the plane. It passed inspection. Want to hear the time?"
"Go ahead."
"1:38.75. That is the record by four tenths congratulations."
"HECK YEAH" Andrew yelled and pounded on the steering wheel as he went around the track and came in as the session wound down. Andrew climbed out and was fired up from the session. He saw Kisuke and the girls and walked over to him.
"I don't care what you did or didn't do that was the best car I have driven." He said hugging his crew chief and cracking some joints.
"No…problem." He wheezed out. Andrew saw the reporters and he went to go answer them.
Twenty minutes later the last group was going out. Chad had qualified 13th behind Ichigo and it appeared that no one was going to beat Andrew's time.
Andrew though was still watching the qualifiers. He figured there was a couple that would beat his time but he held out hope his time stood. As he watched he saw Soi Fong inch closer and closer to his time. On her last lap she took, she went passed the pit road.
He nodded his head to Kisuke "I think she can break it. Look at her speed going into three." He pointed to her car as the time ran out. A minute later she was back around and went down the stretch to take the flag. Andrew looked over at the monitor.
Soi Fong: 1.38.69
Andrew Michaels: 1.38.75
Andrew whistled. "Damn. That was fast. Well she beat me fair and square, I am going to go congratulate her.
Andrew walked over to the garage where Soi Fong was being interviewed. After she was done and the crews were finishing their segments.
"Ms. Fong." The shorter woman looked up. "That was a great lap. Congratulations on winning the pole." He said holding out his hand. She looked up and scoffed. Andrew was not going to take that.
"You know that's a little rude." He said as she started walking away. "Hey." He called out trying to catch up. She quickly turned around.
"Listen baka. I don't need your praises especially from a rookie like you." She said. This arguing got the attention of several reporters who immediately started filming this.
Andrew got a little ticked off. "Look I really don't like being called an idiot I did alright in school. I heard enough of it at school."
Soi Fong argued right back. "Well I'm surprised a retard like you even made it through school."
Andrew lost it. "What did you call me?" He said get right next to her. Before she could respond, Ichigo and Kisuke pulled him back. At the same time Soi Fong was being held back by Kira and Rukia.
"Listen lady there is few things I don't tolerate more than be called that. I was trying to be a nice guy. No wonder Yoruichi left you."
This set her off. "She left with your bastard crew chief." The fight was going to break down before an official broke them up.
"Both of you in the trailer now." The official said.
Andrew groaned. "Great my temper cost me the starting spot."
They were escorted to the racing official's trailer where Yammamato was informed of the situation.
"Now then you two I have only heard the tail end of the story. What happened. Soi Fong you are supposed to be celebrating your pole.
Andrew raised his hand. "May I sir?" At Yammamato's nod he spoke. "I was walking over to congratulate her on the pole as she beat out my time. When she was done with the interviews I approached her to do just that. She brushed me off and I said it was rude. I tried to flag her down, she turned around and started insulting my school. When I countered well she said I was a retard. And well it devolved from there. Sir, I have heard that enough in my life I really detest that word. There are some people who are legitimately that and it insults me and them for saying words like that.
Yammamato nodded grimly. "And can anyone collaborate your story?"
Andrew scoffed "With the amount of media personnel after she won the pole you can ask them.
Yammamato nodded and turned to the shorter woman. "Do you have anything to say Miss Fong.
She looked away. "I see." The wizened man said. He turned back to Andrew. "As the offending party you may choose the punishment." Soi Fong narrowed her eyes at both of them.
Andrew looked at Soi Fong and then back at the director. "I'm prepared to let it slide this time with an apology. She earned that pole and she said some things in the adrenaline of the session. I should have recognized that and I apologize for my actions." Andrew said. Yammamto nodded "Very well in the future please be mindful of what you say in public. Miss Fong." They turned to the woman. Soi Fong sighed. "I'm apologize for my actions." Andrew smiled. "Apology accepted." Yammamto nodded. "If there is nothing else, you are dismissed." The two bowed and started to leave.
"A word Mr. Michaels." Andrew looked at him curiously. "There aren't a lot of people who are willing to be compassionate to those who insult them. Especially with regards to insult people with your…condition." Saeskbe looked at Andrew curiously.
Andrew sighed. "Like I said I have heard it all before." Andrew said turning to leave.
Yammamato sighed. "That boy. He is going to go far." Yammamto looked at the photo on the desk. It was a picture of him, Saeskbe, Jushiro when he was much younger, and the reporter Shunsui. Between the American teams early in the grand prix history and the first European team domination these four ruled the Grand prix. Combined they won six team titles, and seven driver's titles. He won three, Jushiro won two and Saeskbe and Shunsui won one each. When Yammamato retired the team went their separate ways with Jushiro went to various teams before ending up with the Kurosaki team, Saeskbe went with Yammamto and Shunsui having to retire after a scary incident at Silverstone and went into journalism.
"That Kurosaki team reminds me of our team Saeskbe. That Andrew is more like Jushiro, Uryu is you and Chad is a quieter Shunsui.
His companion looked at him. "And Ichigo is like you?" Yammamato nodded. "We will see sir." Saeskbe said and walked out.
Outside the trailer Andrew and Ichigo were talking on the way back. Tatsuki and Orihime walked alongside them.
"So any punishment from the director?" Ichigo said.
"Nah we were both on adrenaline, I got her to apologize as much as she hated. Now we move on." Andrew said.
Tatsuki scoffed. "I would have beat her but that's just me.
Andrew looked at the girl. "Well that's you but I prefer not to be violent."
The tomboy shook her head. "You and Orihime are too nice for your good."
Andrew smiled. "Well it's nice that we got the spirited fighters to balance each other." He said causing Tatsuki to sputter and the red heads to laugh. Tatsuki growled and chased Andrew back to garage. Ichigo and Orihime calmed down and realized they were alone.
"Hey Orihime?" The innocent girl looked up. "Do you want to go out when we go back to Japan?" Orihime widened her eyes and shyly looked away.
"Ano…I don't know? I can't exactly date people I'm filming." Ichigo chuckled. "It's alright you don't have to say anything. And this date would be as friend you know to get to know each other a little better."
Orihime blushed. "A…alright."
Ichigo smiled. 'Orihime's blush is so pretty…when did I become this sappy' He thought. "Great we will work something out."
Orihime nodded and walked alongside Ichigo back to hanger hopefully with no injuries to their companions.

(A good day for the Kurosaki team and a mix bag for the Hendrick)
Sunday March 27th
Tatsuki yawned as she exited the room she and Orihime shared. She was wearing a white shirt and pair of sweat pants. She noticed that Yuzu was already up with her father and a couple members of the pit crews.
Yuzu noticed her. "Oh Tatsuki good morning I didn't know you were up. Andrew is outside." Tatsuki didn't care Yuzu said his name and walked out of the hanger. When she got out she saw he was going through his routine.
"Hey Andrew." He looked over to see Tatsuki walking over. "Do you mind if I warm-up with you.
Andrew looked at her and smiled. "Sure if you can keep up." Tatsuki accepted the challenge and they warmed-up. They did some light exercises in their respected art and then when into sparing.
"So you said something about Tae Kwon Do helping your coordination." She said throwing a punch.
"Yeah well you saw how I had to break those boards many of them need a specific way to break them." Andrew said launching a kick that was blocked. "Well autistics tend to be uncoordinated" A punch was thrown which was countered. "Socially inept in many cases." An angry kick. "And in some case mentally challenged." Another kick which was then turned around and Andrew was brought down. But as he landed s Tatsuki tripped and fell onto him. They blushed at the proximity. "So when Soi Fong said you were retarded…" Tatsuki said looking away.
"I took offense to that." Andrew said looking away from her chest. They separated and kneeled on the ground next to each other.
"So…I heard from Orihime that she and Ichigo want to go on a date when we get back." Tatsuki said.
"I see. Want to spy on them on our own date?" Andrew asked.
Tatsuki widened her eyes. "No, no, no." Tatsuki waved her hands.
Andrew chuckled. "You're lying. Don't worry about it I can see why you would want to watch her. You are concerned Ichigo would hurt her."
Tatsuki looking away gave him the answer. Andrew chuckled again. "Alright come on we got to get ready."
As if by some signal, Ichigo and Isshin started their brawl again. Tatsuki sighed "I wish they would stop."
Andrew nodded "It wouldn't be them if they did." He said as they walked back to the plane.
A half an hour later Andrew was fed and showered. He walked into his room and pulled out his music player. Flipping through the songs he found one and pressed play.
(Eye of the Tiger by Survivor. Sorry could not help it only)
Andrew started putting his gear on. After doing so he threw a couple of punches and nodded to himself then walked out with Tatsuki in tow.
Ichigo was zipping up his suit. Orihime was watching on through a crack in the door. She blushed a little at the muscles as he placed the suit on. Ichigo walked out and by Orihime after giving her a smile and a pat on the head.
Uryuu was adjusting the glasses he would be using in the race. His room contained books and a writing desk on it. He nodded at his reflection and left.
Chad was praying in front of a cross in his room. Standing up he silently grabbed his helmet.
Out on pit road the teams were moving the cars onto the grid and setting up the pits. Andrew's crew had finished and was heading back. Hiyori looked over to the Kuchiki crew who looked like stiffs compared to their crew. She scoffed as they went back to the pits.
Fans were still coming into the stands. Because of its location some fans were out on the boats in marina.
In the broadcast booths above the track all of the main channels are getting ready for the race. In the American booth they were finalizing their questioning. In the Japan booth Kommamura and Jushiro were having a casual conversation before they start the broadcast.
(End the song)
The driver's meeting had just let out. Andrew was walking out when he spotted Soi Fong walking towards her garage. He wanted to talk to her but thought against it as one of the reporters, he noted it was Jermaine walked over to him.
T.V Intro
(Korean instruments begin to play as Seoul is shown) Korea. For the longest time they have been never had their own identity. When they were free from one ruler (China's Forbidden City is shown) another took its place (Japan's imperial palace is shown) Just when they could be their own country, a war forced separated them again (Korean War images are shown) For the longest time they peninsula was on the verge of a full scale war. (North Korean missile launches are show along with South Korean warships.) But a funny about time is that it changes people. For the last ten years, the formerly separated nations are now unified after the North Korean government collapsed. The wounds are still deep but now Korea looks to forge a new identity as a unified nation. That is kind of like the rookies in this year's grand prix. (Pictures of Andrew, Ichigo, Rebecca, Raoul and Ralph Dillon are shown) This is their first year so an identity is important for the future. As for the established drivers (Ulquiorra, Tier, Dale, Serenity and Soi Fong are shown) they have their own. Winning and driving establishes people. Regardless of their actions each driver is their own person and in a nation still recovering its identity they will But regardless of names a country is as strong as its people (Korea citizens show their happiness at being unified again as the instruments build) For a country recovering their wits, they have been beyond hospitable to tourists. Now as the World Grand Prix returns for the first time in 15 years, Korea is welcoming the world back to its track. ( The instruments climax as an image of the world is shown and then zooms in on the gates of the track.) The Korean president is shown in the middle of the track. "한국에오신것을환영합니다 (Welcome. To Korea"
Fox theme music plays
The camera pans over the track as the announcers begin their broadcasts.
American booth
Jeremy: Good Morning, Good Afternoon and Good evening to where ever you are around the world. Welcome to Round 4 of the World Grand Prix. I am Jeremy Buck alongside Nate Jarrett for the Fox Racing Network. We begin this segment with a recap of last week's race.
Begin montage
Jeremy: The race began under wet conditions and some of the drivers had trouble adapting early as we see Andrew our second-place starter today slipping and sliding. But the weather conditions improved throughout the race
Nate: For most of the race it looked like a three car race between Hamilton, Schumacher and Vettal mostly on the former two.
Jeremy: Lap 53 is when things started getting interesting. Bjorn Kristensen lost his brakes and everyone comes in. We restart on lap 56 and we have a big wreck (The wreck is shown) What happened Nate.
Nate: Both Michaels get a little greedy and collided with Renji and spun out crashing several cars behind them. Andrew was involved and Chad Yasotora was flipped onto his roof fortunately everyone is okay. But the red flag came out and it was like a half time.
Jeremy: When the red flag was pulled. It was still Hamilton and Schumacher. But our defending champ started climbing back into contention.
Nate: With the final pit stops Serenity only had to save a couple laps and that proved to be the difference as she was able to ride her way into victory lane. As we take a look at the points standing that win propelled our defending champ to second in the standings. Ichigo still has a slim lead and Kurosaki currently has a commanding team lead.
Jeremy: Speaking of Kurosaki one their drivers got into an argument with a Kuchiki driver.
Nate: That's right the two in question are Andrew Michaels and Soi Fong. It happened after qualifying ended. They were the only two to break the track record in what was a fast session. When Andrew, who was the pole setter until Soi Fong knocked him off, went to congratulate her, she brushed him off. Further prodding as seen here (Scene where Andrew talked to Soi Fong was shown.) led to a verbal lashing by the smaller girl. And right here (Andrew started going after her) she said something that upset the normally nice guy. They were held back by their teams was called into the trailer. From my understanding Soi Fong was warned about her language and Andrew decided to not pursue punishment.
Jeremy: We now have our reporters first Kiyone with Soi Fong then Jermaine with Andrew. Kiyone we start with you down at driver's introductions.
Kiyone: Thank you Jeremy. Miss Fong can you explain what happened after qualifying.
Soi Fong: Whatever I said was with the adrenaline in my system. I will say though that he has yet to really prove to me he can win. His lone win was because had better endurance and got lucky.
K: You feel confident with this car.
S: Yes I am. This Kuchiki Toyota was fast all the way around. I proved it by breaking the track record.
K: Thanks for your time. Soi Fong is the pole sitter. Jermaine.
Jermaine: Thank you Kiyone. I am here with Andrew who apparently heard what Soi Fong said. Andrew what do you have to say?
Andrew: What I have to say is where the heck has she been the first three races. A lap down in a race I wrecked. A battery issue at Abu Dhabi where I won on a dying engine and a seventh place finish in a race I placed in the top 3. If it was Serenity or another driver who has done well I might accept the criticism and strive for being better. But Soi Fong's comments are a challenge. And this Kurosaki Honda has been great since we pulled it off the plane. Don't forget who she had to beat for the pole." Andrew said.
J: Thank you Andrew. He rolls off in 2nd. Oh wait hold on.
Soi had walked over and was now having words with Andrew. They hadn't touched each other as one of their crew members had pulled them back. After another exchange they were separated and they finished introductions.
J: Well looks like the beginning of an intense rivalry. Back to you Jeremy.
Jeremy: Wow. Soi Fong is a spit fire. Will their close proximity on the race to each other affect their race today.
Nate: It's going to be fun to watch (Laughter)
On the track they had finished the opening ceremonies the drivers were strapping in. Andrew was placing his ear plugs in when he looked over at his opponent. Because of the size of the pit they had to by pairs. Soi Fong looked over and their eyes met. She huffed and placed on her helmet. Andrew sighed and did the same.
"Andrew. I need you to be cool headed. Do not let her get to you." Kisuke said from the window.
"I know." Andrew said placing his helmet on.
Over with Soi Fong, the shorter woman was glaring behind her helmet.
"Miss Fong." She looked up to see her boss Byakuya walk over. "Do not concern yourself with Michaels-san. Concern yourself about the race.
She nodded and Byakuya left.
Further back, Ichigo was strapping in.
"Ichigo careful of the track. Some things on this track might be old. This track hasn't used in a while and while the permanent part maybe paved the temporary part may not be up to the same standard.
Ichigo nodded. Orihime stepped up.
"Good luck Kur-Ichigo-kun." Orihime said taking his hand and praying. Ichigo nodded. He looked at his dash where his mother's picture was.
"And Now the moment you have all been waiting for Ladies and Gentlemen. Drivers. START. YOUR ENGINES!"
Within a few moments the roar of the crowd was drowned out as the engines roared to life. Final instructions were given to the drivers as they prepared to pull out.
Japan Booth
Kommamura: With that roaring command the Unified Korean Republic 500 is underway under perfect racing conditions. 75 degrees a nice breeze off the harbor. The fuel window is 26-29 laps what do they have to look for. Jushiro.
Jushiro: Three key things come to mind. The pit road is a very tricky one to enter. It's in the middle of turn 17 and in the racing line. Pit exit is on the exit of turn two also somewhat in the racing line. Drivers need to coordinate both entrance and exit. Number two the roads. It's been a few years since a race has been held here the temporary section down by pit road is not as fresh as the other part of the track. Number three is the street section of the course. This ties into the first point because of all the switch backs could put a lot strain on these springs.
Kommamura: Well as we see the drivers in the middle of their second warm-up lap let's see if we can talk to someone today.
Jushiro: Let's call my replacement. Andrew this is Jushiro can you read me?
"Loud and clear Jushiro."
"Alright. So you are starting second after being knocked off the pole despite breaking the track record. Will your recent verbal jabs with Miss Fong be distracted.
"No offense to you Jushiro but that being brought up is distracting me I would like to win this race without those."
"You think you can win with this car."
"If it took Soi Fong barely beating my time to knock me from the pole then I say I have confidence this car would do great.
"Alright then good luck."
"Thanks."
A lap later the lights were and the cars lined up to start. The anticipation built as they through the last section and the pace car split off. Soi, Andrew and Alexandra led the filed down the pit stretch as the green flag was waved. Going into turn one. Andrew got a small edge was able to cut Soi off into one and sped off in to two. The rest of the cars got through the turn smoothly. As the front sped down the second straight they were already separating themselves by about two or three car lengths. As they got to the chicane Soi Fong was able to brake better and got around Andrew coming out of six. The long stretch heading into turn ten allowed Andrew to move into a position to pass her in ten as they approached the street section. Soi Fong though blocked the door and led him through the remaining corners to lead lap one.
Jeremy: Lap one in the books and Fong and Michaels are starting to pull away a bit as they continue to battle for the lead. Uryuu is around Maria and Alexandra he's in third and there are battles up and down the standings.
Nate: Hopefully it will calm down in a few laps.
Eight laps later the front two were still the same but now Andrew was in front with Soi not that far behind. They opened up a two second advantage on the third-place driver. Soi though got around him again in the same section as on the first lap. They were then content at staying one and two for a while but they would not take their eyes off each other. About 18 laps the question of pit stops became apparent. Because of the trickiness of the pits they would need to coordinate.
Andrew got on the radio. "Yuzu ask the Kuchiki spotter when Soi Fong is coming in."
"Got it Andrew." Yuzu said she turned and saw a man wearing the Kuchiki colors.
"Excuse me sir." The man, Koga, turned to regard her. "Andrew wants to know when Soi Fong is coming in.
The man smiled. "She will be in next time by." He said as they crossed the line.
Yuzu thanked Koga. "Andrew she is coming in next time by."
"Roger." Andrew said. "Kisuke I'm coming in next time by with Soi Fong."
"Are you sure?" Kisuke wondered as Andrew turned up the stretch.
"Positive. I am keeping up with her. Just loosen me up a bit. I am not letting her out of my sight.
"Alright." Kisuke said. He turned to the crew. "Are you waiting for an invite? Let's go." The crew quickly got their stuff together.
American booth
Jeremy: We see several cars come some nearly collide. We expect the leaders sometime in the next lap or so. And we do see both of them. Kiyone they are coming to you as they work lap 28.
Kiyone (As cars speed by) Soi Fong is really happy with the car asking just for a small change in air pressure. She is complaining most about not being able to shake Andrew. Four tires and fuel for her. Meanwhile Andrew came in solely to keep Soi in his sights in his words. A small track bar to loosen the car and they are both down and away a great stop for both of them.
Nate: It is becoming more and more apparent that it's going to come down to these two. As we already see them going through three cars in front of them.
Within five laps the two drivers were in front again after the cycle of stops. These domination continued for the next twenty to twenty five laps as they kept exchanging the lead but Soi Fong was able to keep the longer.
Kommamura: As we get ready for the next round of stops will the same strategy work for Michaels.
Jushiro: He is content to staying with the hornet and we have a caution on the track. Two cars into the wall at twelve and third spun into the run off.
Kommamura: Looks like Stewart tried too early to pass Rosburg. He got clipped and when he spun he collected Regan who was trying to get around him. All three end up in the barrier that creates the turn and their some significant damage. Everyone is okay but looks Stewart is having words with Rosburg.
Jushiro: Everyone is going to come in. Looks like it's going to four tires for everyone. Kiyone.
Kiyone: That's the idea for our leaders as Andrew leads them down. No major adjustments for our leaders they are pretty much bumper to bumper throughout this race. They are down and away and Soi Fong wins the battle off pit road.
Kommamura: That first pit stall is crucial in this situation. As we look at Ichigo Kurosaki's 15 the hood is up on the point's leader what is going on Jermaine.
Jermaine: It is not good I heard Kisuke, Andrew's crew chief and the main technical advisor for this team look at the engines. The last couple of laps, Ichigo was complaining of something is going wrong with the transmission. He was going to be coming in prior to this caution.
Isshin sighed. "Drop it and push it behind the wall. We may be done depending on what we find."
The pit crew nodded and started to push it behind when Keigo noticed something.
"I see fluids." He shouted.
"What color is it?" Isshin called out.
Keigo looked again. "It's Red sir."
Isshin cursed. "Alright we're done take it to the hauler. Ichigo get out. We are done.
"What happened?" He said as the other cars got ready to go back to green.
"Transmission line is dead we don't have the needed parts to get to there and fix it in time.
Ichigo cursed as they pushed the car back.
Jeremy: Our point's leader doesn't look good. Looks the transmission is gone.
Nate: Tough break for him the transmission is especially important on a track that requires you switch gears a lot.
Jeremy: As restart on lap 59 Soi Fong and Michaels are still at each other's throats as they climb through the gears on to the long straight to turn 3.
In the 2 car, Soi Fong was getting frustrated. "Omeida what is going on I can't shake him.
"I don't know my lady we are trying everything to keep you ahead of him."
The woman growled and her crew chief wisely shut up. 'This guy is getting on my nerves. I cannot believe he is seriously this good.'
In the 91 another conversation was taking place. "What happened with Ichigo?"
"Transmission is gone. He's out of the race. Focus on your race." Kisuke said.
"Right. I'm just waiting for her to hopefully make a mistake."
After the exchanges the driver were content to stay in the same position. The gap to the third place car Alexandra was four seconds. The next twenty-five laps was similar but Andrew managed to close the gap and was able to get around her on lap 84. During that time, Raoul Garcia retired because of a similar issue to Ichigo.
Jushiro: A lot of transmission failures in this race that could be caused by parts of the track inadvertently getting into the engines and slicing the line or jamming the transmission. No reports of fluids indicate it might be the latter for Garcia.
Kommamura: As the leaders prepare for what appears to be their last stop. They have a large lead on third place they could not lose as much ground as the first stop. This long green flag run has spread the field out.
Two laps later on lap 87 both of the front runners came in for their last stop. As they entered the pits Soi Fong angled her car in a way Andrew had to go around her.
"God damn it. I am getting fed up with her." He said as the car was getting worked on.
In the pit ahead of him, Soi Fong smiled as they worked on her car.
"That will teach you, you little smug bastard." She said as work was done and sped off.
Andrew growled. "No more Mr. Nice guy." He said as the jack was dropped and he sped away.
Jeremy: The leaders come in and in fit of spite, Soi Fong blocks Andrew forcing him to angle out of the pit.
Nate: They have been at each other's throats all day. This is just adding fuel to the fire.
Five laps later they were back in front with about 24 laps together. Soi Fong was now pulling away and she was smiling having locked up the laps led bonus. Andrew was slowly losing ground. He was at the beginning of the run but the gap was two seconds between him and the pompous woman in front of him. At the last ten laps the gap was at a second and a half but did not appear to be closing.
Kommamura: Ten laps to go Soi Fong is still leading and if something doesn't happen she is going to win this race..
Jushiro: Don't count out Andrew just yet that gap at the line was 1.3 seconds he is closing the gap.
Three laps later the gap was slowly down to seven tenths. Andrew was gaining ground on the fast sections but was losing ground slightly in the corners.
Jeremy: Five laps to go the gap is 5 car lengths.
Nate: It looks like Andrew might be able to catch her but passing her is a different story.
One lap later he was right on her bumper heading into turn 10. He tried an outside move but the door quickly shut and he lost some momentum. He quickly caught back up to her on the straights with three laps to go. At the chicane he tried again but couldn't complete the pass. He was getting frustrated and Kisuke was having to calm him down.
One lap later he tried again this time he got around her briefly but he overshot the turn and gave the spot back.
Andrew growled but calmed down when Kisuke talked to him. He took a deep breath. He focused on the car in front of him as they took the last lap. They exited two and he started weaving to try to get around her. He started on the inside and switched to the outside. They slowed for three and tried it again. Going through the Chicane and entering the fast stretch. He weaved to the side. Soi Fong tried to block again but over predicted and weaved back to where she he was going to be. She lost all sorts of momentum and he finally got around her going into ten. It was a fight through the street section but as they entered the final stretch it was Andrew in first place.
Jeremy: And Andrew does it on the final lap as he holds off Soi Fong.
Andrew celebrated and did a burn out. He came into victory lane and talked with reporters. On the podium they decided against the champagne because of Soi Fong's temper but it was a victory nonetheless.
What will happen when the Grand Prix reaches Japan. Find out.

A/N: End of chapter
Sorry for the rush at the end I was in a hurry when I wrote the end of this.
New terms
Korea International Circuit: Finished in 2010 and designed by Hermann Tilke it contains Asia longest straightaway at three quarters of a mile. Its part street and part permanent. Its not a particularly popular track. I wrote this with the intention to show how two good cars can dominate a race.
Transmission: This affects the gears and the Rpms an engine can produce at once. If it's leaking like what happened with Ichigo it can cause problems in areas where quick changes are needed. This can come in automatic where the car does it for you or manual like in a race car where the drivers use a clutch to hold the speed to change it
Preview: As the Grand Prix comes to Japan, new beginnings are shared. But as the favorites fall who will rise at the Twin Rings?
Next time: Beginnings in Japan
Read and Review. Flames will be used to fuel the engines
Edited 2/28/14: Took out the pit pass part.
