Rhydian's POV

"Anwen? As in-"

"Carys' gir- ex-girlfriend," Anwen says. I look her up and down and give her the evil eye.

"Anwen, would you excuse us for a second?" I don't wait for a reply before I tug Jana away. "What's going on? Carys is freaking out, she's run off up the mountain, Maddy and Dad have gone after her, but she's really upset."

"She's in shock. Can you blame her? As long as she's not alone, she'll be fine," Jana says. I'm worried but Jana and I need to stay here and get rid of Anwen. We walk back over to her.

"Let me speak to her," she demands.

"No, you shouldn't have come here in the first place, go home. We'll get her to call you or something," I lie. "Now is a really bad time," I say, tugging Jana away again. I look over my shoulder, Anwen just stands there staring at us. We pick up our pace to a sprint until we're out of her sight and back at camp. I hope for her sake Anwen takes my advice and leaves this place.

The pack are all annoyed at me for sending them on a wild goose chase. But I ignore them and make my way over to mum.

"Are they back yet?" I ask.

"Not yet, can someone please explain what's going on?" She asks.

"This girl that Carys used to- like date, she just showed up. I think we got her to leave, but it's brought up some bad memories. She'd basically been stalking Carys since she got to Stoneybridge," Jana says.

"We need to go home, mum, like now," I make my way to the tent to get Bryn.

"Rhydian, wait, we can't leave yet," I ignore her and continue into the tent, mum and Jana follow me.

Bryn looks worse than he did before. He's covered in sweat and his wound is still bleeding, and now oozing green stuff. He's not completely unconscious anymore, though I'm not sure that's a good thing. He's breathing so heavily and letting out these tiny little moans. One of the pack healers is at his side, keeping his temperature at bay with a wet flannel. "He's getting sicker, there's no way he'll make the walk home without human medicine." There was a time when mum frowned upon human medicine, but now that her cub is in danger she's willing to do anything.

I try to gather my thoughts. "I'll carry him, me and dad, we'll carry him back."

"I'll help too," Jana adds, "Ceri, we can't stay here."

"His body can't take it, it's too much for him," she says with tears in her eyes.

"Then I'll go back and get Whitewood, I'll bring her to him!" I shout.

"Rhydian!" Mum takes me by the shoulders. "He won't make it that long," she's deadly serious. Bryn's in real trouble. "Just go and find your sister and come back here, we'll figure something out." Jana and I do as she says.

We head deeper into the woods, following dad, Maddy and Carys' scents all the way up the mountain. We pick up our pace and the trees grow further and further apart until there's none, and the slope gets steeper, we can almost touch the clouds. We get higher and higher and see three blurry figures at the top. Carys is crying. Maddy goes to her side and takes her hand. Dad hovers a few feet back, unsure of what to do. I let Jana go to her side while I stand back with dad.

"We have to get out of here!" She screams, and drops to the floor, burying her face in her hands.

"I know, and we'll figure it out, Bryn is a fighter and he will be okay. We have to be strong for him," Jana says. "All of this is just stuff, think about it this way, everything that's going on right now won't matter in 10 years," she kneels at her side.

"I wish I could do something, to make it all better," Dad says to me, making sure Carys doesn't hear. I think he's crying.

"Bryn will get better, so will Carys," I reply.

"I'm the dad, I'm supposed to be comforting my cubs, not the other way around," he says. "Jana was right before, I'm a terrible father,"

"No dad, she was wrong. And so was I for agreeing with her, I'm sorry. I was just angry. You've always done everything you could for us, and for mum."

He wraps his arms around me and kisses my head, then he turns to Carys, "Come back to camp love, I'm here," he walks towards her. She suddenly pushes Jana away from her, dad stops in his tracks.

"Leave me alone," she begs, and crawls closer to the edge of the cliff, and I realise why she ran all the way up here. "Just let me be on my own, you'd all be better off. Bryn wouldn't have gotten hurt if it wasn't for me, and you'd all be fine!"

"That's not true. You're the reason we're all together." She looks up at dad. "Bryn needs you. You're his big sister," dad approaches her again. "Come on, Carys," he holds out his hand. She takes a minute, but eventually she lets him help her to her feet and lead her away from the edge. "We all have to stay strong right now, we're not going to let this pack fall apart."

"I'm sorry," she says, hugging him.

"Don't be, love."

She hugs me too, then Jana and Maddy.

"Come on, let's go back to camp sort this all out," I take her hand and she lets us slowly lead her down the mountain back to camp.

Once we arrive, dad, Carys and I go into the tent to see Bryn while Maddy and Jana go hunting, even though it still makes Maddy sick. But it's nice that she cares so much about my family that she would go and find red meat for Bryn.

It's only been half an hour, but Bryn looks even worse. Carys takes over from the healer and keeps him cool with a rag. I help mum, who is still trying to keep his wound clean.

"You're right mum, he needs human medicine," Carys says, she seems to have gathered herself a little bit.

"We need a phone, we could call Segolia. They have a helicopter," dad suggests.

"Mine was destroyed," Carys says. "The nearest phone for miles would be-" A look comes across her face.

"What is it, cariad?" Mum asks.

"Anwen, she has a phone. She can't be too far, if I run, I can catch up to her!"

"I'll come with you, we'll save him mum," she doesn't have the chance to argue as we bolt past her and dad and out in the path of Anwen. It doesn't take long to pick up her scent, but it's starting to get dark out. It would be safer for us to transform but if Anwen saw us, she'd run, and Bryn could die.

"I can see her Rhydian!" I squint my eyes and manage to spot her too. I start sprinting to catch up to Carys, but she suddenly stops. "Wait," she pulls me behind a tree.

"What is it?" I look back to Anwen, then Carys points to a tree a few feet away from her, Ingrid is standing there. "She'll kill her!" My suspicions are confirmed as we watch Ingrid pounce on Anwen, transforming mid-leap, knocking her to the ground, we hear Anwen scream and Ingrid howl. We instantly start running again, we have no choice but to transform if we want to get Ingrid away from Anwen. We work as a team to tackle her away from Anwen, who scrambles backwards and sits terrified against a tree. Ingrid stands on her hind legs, she goes for Carys who fights her off, I approach Ingrid, trying to scare her away. She growls back. I leap at her, biting her front right leg as hard as I can. She whines and then runs off into the distance with a limp.

Neither Carys or I take a second to think before transforming back into human form. We look at each other, then back at Anwen, who's breathing fast and heavily, with a confused and frightened look on her face.

"Anwen..." Carys says.

"Stay away from me!" Anwen gathers her things in a rush and shakily stands up. "You're a freak! You both are! This is what you've been hiding from me? No, no, it's not real, I'm going crazy."

"Okay, stay calm Anwen, you're not going crazy," I say, keeping my distance. Anwen stares at Carys like she's some kind of monster.

"So what? You're a werewolf?" She nervously chuckles.

"I'm a Wolfblood, so is my brother."

"Wait what? Brother? No this is too much," she paces. "This isn't happening, I really am going nuts," she whispers to herself.

"I met him when I moved, we didn't know we were related until a few months ago and then after my dad died, I found out he wasn't really my dad and my mum wasn't my mum. And I met my real parents, I have a little brother and a half sister too."

"So, you're all werewolves?"

"Wolfbloods," I correct her. "And yes." She gives me an evil glare.

"Look none of this is important right now, we need to use your phone. Our brother is really sick, too sick to move, he needs human medicine and there's only one place we can get it safely. Please Anwen. I'm begging you."

Anwen takes a moment to take in all this new information, but eventually, she hands Carys her phone who tries her hardest to remember the Segolia number, trying different combinations.

"Here," I take the phone, "I'll call the Smiths and they can get hold of Whitewood." I dial the familiar number and after 3 rings, Daniel picks up.

"Mr. Smith? It's Rhydian, we need you to call Segolia, Bryn's in bad shape, we can't get him home without risking his life, you need to get them to send someone."

"Oh, Rhydian, uh yes, I can do that - Emma, it's Rhydian, call Segolia now - Emma's calling now, where are you?"

"Where are we? Carys?" She shrugs. "Wait, Anwen, you said you had GPS on your phone, are you able to get coordinates?" She nods and takes the phone from me, putting Daniel on speaker phone, she opens her weird stalker app and manages to find the coordinates in a matter of seconds.

"Good idea Rhydian," Daniel says, "Text them to me." Anwen types out the number and presses send. "Okay, I've got them," he repeats the number to Emma. After a few minutes and being able to hear the muffled conversation that Emma is having with Segolia, he finally replies. "They're sending a helicopter now, best of luck to all of you," he hangs up.

"Now all we can do is wait," Carys says. She's about to cry again, so I hug her, hiding her face from Anwen. I know that she wouldn't want to show her emotions to her ex any more than she already has. She pulls away, wiping the last of her tears from her face.

"Thank you for your help Anwen," I hand the phone back.

"Of course, anything to help," she's talking to me but still looking at Carys. I think she really loves her.

"You can't tell anyone what we are," Carys gets stern again. "You have no idea what it could mean for or kind if the secret gets out."

"Well, you're not very good at hiding it, you changed right in front of me," Anwen folds her arms.

"Hey, we saved your life, that other wolf would have killed you," I raise my voice slightly.

"How do I know you won't hurt me? You're the same as that thing. Killers," she doesn't seem scared anymore, she's just pushing her luck.

"We're not all like her, most of us are kind, loving," Carys says. "People like her give the rest of us a bad reputation. We're not monsters, we're people too. Just please don't tell anyone, we'll end up as lab rats. Or worse."

"Okay, fine, I won't tell anyone."

"Thank you," I reply.

"I guess I'll go then," Anwen doesn't move.

"I'm sorry that it has to be like this, some of the pack aren't accustomed to humans, it wouldn't go well for you,"

"So, you live in a forest with your wolf family now?"

"No, no I still live in Stoneybridge, Jana's dad is in charge out here, so we visit sometimes. Our parents used to be Alphas."

"I'm going to pretend I know what that means and get out of your hair, or... fur I suppose."

"Thank you again, Anwen. My family is grateful."

Anwen goes in for a hug but Carys takes a step back and extends her hand.

"Right, no hugging, sorry, old habits." They shake hands.

"You don't need me, or anyone; you can make it on your own. I know you," she smiles at Anwen, a real smile. Anwen smiles back, gathers her things, and goes off into the wild on her own.

Carys and I go back to camp. It's almost pitch black out now, the moon is our only source of light. Carys goes to the healing tent to tell mum and dad that Segolia have sent a team out, and I go to our tent where Maddy and Jana are both sound asleep, until they smell me, that is.

"Hey, did you get to a phone? Ceri told us you went after Anwen," Maddy asks, giving me a kiss.

"Where's Carys?" Jana says, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.

"She's gone to see Bryn. We managed to get hold of Segolia thanks to the Smiths, they've sent a helicopter, should be here by morning." Jana sits up properly. "She said she'll be in to say goodnight but the two of us are gonna spend the night with Bryn. Night Mads," I give her another kiss, "Night Jana." I leave them to sleep and head to Bryn's tent.
