STORY-

It's been a while since the talent show happened.

Kagome got first place...shocker!

She was now almost 17 and Sesshomaru was already one of her friends.

One of her best friends is better to say actually.

InuYasha doesn't like it that much, but who cares what he thinks?

He and Kikyo are still dating, and Sango and Miroku are now as well.

Even Aiyana and Kaname are dating!

He asked her out the night of the talent show and of course...she said yes!

Anyway...Now Kagome was laying on her bed and staring at the ceiling.

She had tears in her eyes as she listened to the lyrics to the song on the radio and they hit her hard.

The song was He Didn't Have to Be by Brad Paisley.

"Kagome! Dinner is ready!"

Her mom yelled up the stairs, but was just ignored.

"Mister! Mister! Look! Kagome found a pretty rock!"

A five year old Kagome yelled at her mom's friend happily.

He smiled warmly at the young girl and rested his hand on her head gently.

"May I see it, Kagome-chan?"

She nodded her head happily and handed him the rainbow colored rock.

He gasped and handed it back to her with a smile.

"Hold on to that Kagome-chan. It's very rare."

The young girl got a weird look on her face and she turned her head to the side in a cute way.

"Rare?"

The man nodded his head.

"Yes, rare means there aren't a lot of them in the whole world!"

Kagome gasped and hugged the rock tightly.

She giggled and nodded her head before running off to look for more rocks by the water.

Kagome reached under her pillow and smile sadly at the rainbow colored rock.

"I didn't know then...But I know now...You were helping my mom raise me...Thank you..."

She rolled onto her side and stared out her window, watching the rain fall from the sky and hit the ground.

"Kagome! Play!"

A two year old Souta yelled while pointing outside.

Kagome looked at where he was pointing shook her head.

"No Souta. You'll get sick."

He ignored her warning and ran outside, into the freezing rain.

"Souta!"

Kagome yelled, but he ignored her.

He started to sneeze so his sister started to panic.

"I'm gonna tell mommy on you!"

Kikyo said rudely and ran into the kitchen, where their mom was.

Kagome ran outside and pushed her brother back inside.

When her mom can into the living room she saw the front door wide opened and saw Kagome giggling while spinning in the rain.

"This is fun!"

She said, forgetting that she would get soon.

"Rainy days are so nice...It feels like they can wash away all your pain and sorrow..."

There was a knock on Kagome's door and then it opened.

"Kagome, dear? Dinner's done."

Mrs. Higurashi said sweetly.

She walked into the room and closed the door behind her before she sat on the bed next to Kagome and stared outside at the rain as well.

"Mommy! Mommy! Kagome and Souta are playing in the rain!"

Kikyo snitched as she ran into the kitchen.

Mrs. Higurashi sighed and dried her hands off.

She walked into the living room with Kikyo and looked out the front door that was letting in a cold breeze.

She saw Kagome spinning in the rain and yelling...

"This is fun!"

A warm motherly smile appeared on her face when she saw the bright smile on her daughter's face.

The smile she hadn't seen since her father left...And the smile she had missed so much...

"A lot had happened in the rain...Hasn't it, dear?"

Kagome nodded her head and smiled sadly again.

"Mama?"

Mrs. Higurashi turned her head and smile at her daughter.

"What is it, dear?"

"Do you remember...four years after dad walked out and you started to talking to Kiyoi more?"

Her mom nodded her head and so she continued.

"Well, do you also remember when I accedently called him 'Daddy' when he helped out of the water..."

She nodded her head again and tears came to Kagome's eyes again.

"I felt so bad because I knew he wasn't my father..."

"Help! Help! Kagome can't swim!"

A six year old Kagome screamed in parts.

Her head could be seen appearing and then disappearing in the ocean water.

Her mom started to panic, and her friend Kiyoi ran towards the water quickly.

"Help! Help! Kagome can't-"

Kagome's head finally sunk and wouldn't come back up.

She had a lot of water in her lungs and Kiyoi pulled her out of the water, before she got anymore.

He helped push the water out of her lungs, and then gave her CPR.

"Thank you...Daddy..."

Kagome whispered and smiled in a weak, but cute way.

"Is that why he doesn't talk to you anymore, mama?"

Mrs. Higurashi sighed deeply and looked at her daughter.

"No...He doesn't talk to me anymore...Because he wanted to date me...But I was still waiting and hoping that your father might return one day..."
