Rin woke to the clatter of her phone falling to the floor. Grunting in irritation, she flung her arm over the side of her bed to grope for it, letting out a startled shriek when she instead felt a clawed paw swipe at her. "You little-" she growled as the unusually grumpy cat ran out of her bedroom. Finding her phone, and flopping onto her back, she checked to see if she had any calls. Confirming that she was not called in today, Rin wondered what she would do with this day off. Sighing heavily, she peered at her curtain covered little window, and frowned when she didn't see the bright light of sunshine. Checking the time to see that it was indeed mid-morning, the sleep rumpled woman rolled out of her warm bed, and stumbled to open the curtains.
Blinking blearily, she noted the heavy fog and overcast clouds that cast a particularly gloomy atmosphere over the pleasant neighborhood her apartment complex was located in. "Well, isn't this just lovely?" Rin mumbled, blinking once again when she realized how her mood matched her cats, and she rubbed a soft palm across her sensitive throat. "I need to eat something." She spoke in a normal tone, and startled herself at how callous it sounded. And that is how her gloomy morning had started. She bumbled through the small apartment in her pajamas, washed her face, brushed her teeth and hair, had a quick breakfast of left over rice and a fresh omelette, all while peeking at her phone every 5 minutes. A frustrated sound erupted from her after the 50th time she checked to see if Sango had her on call. But no, there were no calls, not one text, not even an email. Sesshomaru was apparently behaving, and she was teetering on the edge of madness.
Did she even want to see him after what had happened? Of course, he was her responsibility(probably not for long, she thought sarcastically), and she felt a type of warmth for him despite how much she really shouldn't. Did she want what happened to happen again? Now, this question caused Rin to pause as she was shimmying into her jeans, and the knot that had been hiding in her gut suddenly returned. No. But, yes? She didn't know, and she sure as hell didn't want to think about it. She was stuck in between new found sexual feelings she had desperately been suppressing, and wanting to explore these feelings with a man she shouldn't have felt them for. What was a girl to do? A knock at her door caused her to jump. Quickly buttoning her jeans and throwing on her well-loved(holes and all) T-shirt, Rin trotted to the door chanting, "Hold on, hold on." to herself.
Peering into the peephole, Rin frowned when she saw Inuyasha standing on the other side. He was fidgeting in place, and looked like he would rather be in hell than at her doorstep. She stood there for a moment, and considered ignoring him to pretend she wasn't home, but his sudden, loud banging on her door caused her to squeak in surprise. "I know you're in there, runt!" He pounded some more, and she frowned at the nickname. Opening it fully, she glared openly at him, a look he fully returned.
"Runt? I'm taller than you, shorty." A smug grin spread across her face when she saw the mortification flash, soon followed by anger, across his face. She saw him tense as though he was going to bulldoze her to cross the door, but she calmly rested her palm against the door frame, blocking his entrance. Her actions seemed to cause him to blink out of his red-tinged vision, and he let out a weary sigh, suddenly looking much older than he should.
"Look, I didn't come here to fight, okay?" Masculine, handsome hands came out of his jean pockets, lifting to show he wasn't a threat. "I'm just worried about my brother, and he seems to like you." He paused, narrowing his eyes at her. Rin was proud that she managed not to squirm under the scrutiny. "I actually think he likes you a bit too much, because my brother doesn't like anyone." Crossing his arms, Inuyasha seemed to think that his little speech was good enough to warrant an invitation inside. Rin stubbornly continued the staring contest until finally sighing in defeat, and stepping away to let him in.
So much for a day off, she though glumly.
