When Madge hears a knock on her window at eleven at night the day before her wedding her heart races a bit. Peeta swore he wouldn't pull any elaborate pranks on her but she can imagine it anyway. Katniss and Delly are somewhere else in the cottage they rented out to keep Gale away but they went to bed early because they have to be up early to help Madge get ready, so she doubts it them.

Madge is in the bathroom washing her face when the knock is heard. She's just drying off when she hears the window open, and then a large thud, followed by the sound, "Oof."

She sprints into the room and freezes. "Gale?!" He's sitting up, rubbing at his head which he knocked against the ground. "What are you doing here?"

His eyes finally find her and a lopsided grin stretches across his face. "I wanted to see you," he says. It takes him a moment to get onto his feet, his eyes trailing down her body. "You look good."

Madge crosses her arms over her chest and tries her hardest not to smile. "You shouldn't be here," she says to him. Gale lumbers forward, his movement sloppy, and shrugs. "You're not supposed to see the bride the day before."

"I thought I wasn't supposed to see the bride in her dress," Gale hums. He reaches out and grabs her hips, pulling her toward him. "I cannot wait to marry you, Madge Undersee." She laughs and grabs his hands. "Waiting another few hours is killing me, babe."

"I think you'll survive," Madge says, pulling his hands away from her. His breath smells like liquor. His bachelorette party was tonight. "Are you drunk?"

"Thom threw the party," Gale smirks, attempting to reach for her again. "What do you think?" Madge frowns and crosses her arms back over her chest, taking another step away. Gale's frown is instantaneous. "Aren't you happy to see me?"

"Of course I am," she nods earnestly, "but it's bad luck." Gale rolls his eyes and lunges for her. Though he's drunk he's still much stronger and faster than her, and is able to get her into his arms quickly. Gale throws her over his shoulder as she tries to wiggle away before carrying her to bed and depositing her sweetly. She sits up and frowns, "Gale." Before she can cross her arms again he grabs her wrists and leans over her, pressing her back down onto the bed. He slides until his hips pin hers down. "This is ridiculous!"

"This isn't ridiculous," he laughs. His eyes are filled with mischief. He bends down, pressing his lips to hers quickly. "Why are you so stressed?"

"Bad luck," she repeats with a sigh.

"Madge," Gale rolls his eyes again before leaning down again. "I'll leave before the sun is up. Okay?" Without waiting for an answer he kisses her again, this time she eases into it slightly. "Relax. We're getting married."

"I know, I know." He trails kisses up her face, over the bridge of her nose and to her forehead. "I know we are."

There's a resignation in her voice that even Gale can detect in the state he's in. He releases her hands and pulls up slightly.

"You're nervous," he says. Madge blinks a few times before nodding her head. "So'm I, babe. Getting cold feet is normal." The two of them shift so Madge is no longer pinned to the bed, but rather her legs are around his hips. Her lack of response causes his heart to twist unfamiliarly, and not in a good way. "Are you having second thoughts?"

"No," she says instantly. "No, never. I'm just nervous." They roll on the bed so Madge is the one on top now, her hips pressing into his while Gale sits up. Madge's hands find his cheeks.

"You want to know something?" he whispers. Madge tips her head forward. "Since our first date I knew that you were the girl I was going to marry," Gale says. Madge blinks a few times and releases her hold on his face, smiling downward. "Our first kiss – Christ." Gale chuckles, sliding his hands up her arms. "I am endlessly in love with. There is no other person I want to start my life with, to spend my life with, but you."

Madge hesitates, chewing down on her bottom lip. "Really?"

"Really," Gale nods. "Fuck all of this superstition bullshit about not seeing you. I wanted to see you."

"And here you are," she says, smiling now.

"Here I am," he nods again. "You are going to look absolutely incredible tomorrow," Gale says as he pulls her closer. "I have no idea how I'm going to control myself." Madge's smile stretches into a grin and she grinds against him, causing Gale to smirk. "Going to the party is going to be awful because let me tell you, Undersee, I'm not going to want to do anything but tear that dress off of you."

"How sweet," she snorts.

He dips down and presses kisses to her throat. "We could go for it now, if you want."

"Ah, ah," she shakes her head, but wiggles her hips again again.

"My body misses your body," he groans against her collarbone. "My hand does not do justice." Madge dissolves into giggles. They started to be celibate two months before the wedding despite Gale's attempts to lure her into bed again. Again they roll so Madge is below him. "You sure you don't want to consummate the marriage now?"

"We're not married!" Madge laughs as he noses her throat. "We have nothing to consummate!" His hands trail up her nightshirt and Madge can't deny that she's missed the feel of his skin against hers. Gale's fingers trace up her spine and edge her shirt higher. "We have to wait," she forces out, feeling him grin against her throat. "Really, Gale. And don't give me a hickey!"

She swats him away from her throat and he pulls away laughing, "I won't. My mother would kill me."

"So would I, it would be in all of the photos." His hands find her cheeks and Gale bends down, kissing her sweetly. "I love you," she breathes against his lips.

"I love you," he echoes. "Tomorrow…"

"Tomorrow I make you mine forever," Madge says.

"Oh? I'm yours?"

"What, you think I belong to you?" she scoffs.

Gale grins and dives down, pulling her body flush against his. "How about I'm yours if you're mine. But only then."

Madge pretends to think about it for a minute before nodding her head. "I guess that's okay."

His hands begin to explore under her shirt again and hers do the same to him. His eyes become clearer as the minutes tick by, the taste of liquor on his tongue fades away. Just as she's about to pull off her soon-to-be-husband's shirt the door flings open and in charges Katniss with her arms crossed.

Gale and Madge part quickly, Gale leaping up in front of the blonde who hasn't even managed to get out of bed to block Katniss from her.

"Thom called," Katniss says. She points toward the door. "Get. Out!"

"Hey, hey," Gale holds up his hands. "I said I'd leave before the sun rises!"

"You're getting married in like, twelve hours! You can wait!" Katniss moves toward her friend and grabs his wrist but he yanks it away and falls backwards onto the bed with Madge. "Gale!"

"Hold on," he groans. He pulls Madge toward him again and kisses her as gently as he can. "I love you." She laughs against his mouth as he delivers a rapid succession of kisses. "I'll see you tomorrow."

"For Christ's sake," Katniss lunges toward the bed but Gale does a roll over his fiancée and darts back to the window. He slips outside before Katniss can even get around the bed, waving over his shoulder. From outside he pulls the window shut. Katniss turns toward Madge who is still giggling into her hands, staring at where Gale has disappeared. "Seriously?" she groans. "I was asleep."

"You could've left him here," Madge says, shrugging innocently.

Katniss narrows her eyes at her friend and marches from the room. Over her shoulder she calls, "If I have to come in here again I'm cancelling your honeymoon." The door clicks shut behind her.

Gale doesn't return, but that's okay. Madge falls asleep easily with her nerves about tomorrow gone. They'll have all night for fun, and the rest of their lives after that.
