She Watched Him
She watched him subtly for years. She saw him when he was a petty young boy, full of hate for things he didn't understand, and barbs sharp enough to cut even the strongest of armors. She saw him when he had a job he didn't want, when he paled and lost weight because he was so scared his parents would die because he wasn't strong.
She watched him stalking the halls of Hogwarts, a Hogwarts that was no longer a home under the Carrows rule. She watched him diminish and fade, a mere shadow of the boy he'd been, an echo of the man he could be.
She watched him as she walked towards him in traditional wedding robes, his eyes shining with a happiness she'd never seen on him before. It looked good on him, she thought, and she was pleased that she'd been the one to make that look appear.
She watched him tremble with fear as they took her into the sterile operating theater to birth their child.
She watched the relief shining from his eyes when she woke, pained but alive when the odds hadn't been in her favour.
She watched him with their son, his loving nature finally coming to the forefront as he showered the boy with love and affection.
Astoria watched her husband from the moment she met him, and she knew she'd never have been as happy as she was without him.
After all the years, and all he'd been through, she was happy to know that he'd say the same thing about her.
