Chapter Fourteen:
Riddick watched Toombs slid down the rope.
"Riddick..." Toombs had a feeling what Riddick would do, jump from the ledge and onto the rope.
"You should have taken the money for her, Toombs."
He continued crawling up the rope, while Rynn enjoyed watching his muscles work, to the upper level, seeing it trashed. Electrical wires sparking, holes in walls from the gun fire.
"Rynn!" Riddick hollared. His shined eyes dead locked on Rynn when she appeared along with Kyra whom was cuddled protectively to her side. She didn't care at that moment about the carnage before her. All she cared about was Jack.
Rynn went to her knees, grabbing Jack by the arms, spinning her around, pulling her into a long awaited embrace. "Thank god your alive and ok."
"God, Rynn I have missed you." Kyra choked out through tears. "I've missed you both." She added.
Kyra pulled back, looking at Rynn. "Imam-"
"I know, Jack. I'm so sorry."
"The names, Kyra now." Making that clear.
"Kyra, huh?" Rynn smiled. "I like it."
Kyra began to choke up again. "Rynn! He's dead." She lost it than, started bawling.
"I know. It'll be alright." She tried comforting her best she could while keeping her own tears inside for the holy man.
"I said reunite later, we gotta get outta here-"
When Riddick walked passed them, Kyra let go of Rynn to throw herself into Riddick's arms, like before on Helion Prime, and like before he didn't return the embrace.
Rynn looked at Riddick with sympathy and gestured with her head to give Kyra some kind of affection back so he lightly growled and patted the girl's head before dislodging himself from her going to pick up the monitor that had the Necro ship on it while noticing a couple of bodies moving around him.
"They're here, aren't they?" Rynn asked.
"Looks that way." Riddick replyed.
"Shit!"
"What?" Kyra asked.
"Necros are coming."
"It never ends for you two, does it?"
"No." Rynn replyed.
"Which was the reason I left you behind. Better for you to stay away from us." Riddick growled out to Kyra.
"It was MY choice to find you two."
"Worst choice you ever made, kid." He replyed coldly.
"Fuck you, Riddick. No one asked for your opinion."
Riddick angrily growled but kept walking around, flipping a switch to unlock all the cell doors, coming upon Eva's body, sitting upright against a wall, breathing deeply, slowly. The side of her head bleeding. She got injured in the fight.
Her eyes slowly opened seeing Riddick squatting down to grab her keys to get the cuffs off of his wrists. "You gonna kill me?" She weakly asked.
Riddick just looked at her blankly, not saying a word, standing up to his full height. Rynn, along with Kyra, appeared on either side of him.
"What about you, Rynn." Eva choked out. "I tried to make a move on your man after all."
Rynn took a step forward and Riddick's arm went out across her midsection to stop her. "No need, to kill her Rynn, she's dying."
"I wasn't going to kill her actually."
"Really?!" Riddick arched an eyebrow.
"Really. You gonna move your arm?"
He did and Rynn stopped dead smack in front of Eva, squatting down to her level. "You seem like an ok person, Eva, despite making a move on my man, you just somehow got caught up in the wrong lifestyle."
"It was my decision to sign with them."
"And look where it got you..." Rynn walked away from her with that.
Riddick kept hitting a button that wouldn't work, wouldn't open the doors. He flipped over another monitor, showing more of the carnage down below, showing the guards scurring.
Ben and a few other inmates made their way in also.
"Mercs. Some guards here but this can't be all of them." A prisoner spoke.
"Ben!" Rynn rushed to Ben and threw herself into his arms. He returned her hug. "Glad your alright." She pulled back to meet his eyes.
Riddick just watched the two.
"Yes I'm fine Rynn. Mac." Ben's attention went to the prisoner. "Check the back but becareful."
"Don't bother." Riddick came into view, using the keys to remove the cuffs and discard them on the floor. "Guards ain't there. They figured out the Necros are coming for me when Toombs brought Kyra."
"So it's my fault?" Her voice sounding hurt. Rynn put her arm around the girl.
"Plan was to clean the bait, ghost the mercs, breakwide through the tunnel and somebody got a lucky shot with this rocket launcher." He kicked at it. "The guards took off on foot. Rigged the doors so no one could follow and leave everyone else here to die."
"How come you know all this shit?" Toombs made his grand entrance again. "You wern't even here."
"'Cause it was my plan."
Rynn came up next to Riddick, whispering in his ear. "What are we going to do about him?"
Riddick gave her a twised yet sexy smile...
"I should have taken the money." He scolded himself. "RIDDICK!" Toombs shouted from inside a cage where they keep the hounds. There were two more cages on either side of Toombs. The hounds doing their best to get at him.
"If your still gonna be dead weight now's the time." Riddick hollowered.
Rynn and Kyra wasted no time in getting inside the make shift elevator, getting ready to head for the top.
"Ben." Rynn pleaded with him. "Please come with us."
"I told you pretty lady, my place is here." He placed his hands on the side of her face, bringing her to him, glancing up at Riddick making sure he didn't try to kill him for what he was about to do. He gently placed a kiss to her forehead. He saw tears welling up in her eyes."
"Don't cry for me, Rynn. You belong with Riddick, out there. I'll be fine."
"Thank you for all you have done for me in here and I'm sorry if I gave you a hard time especially when it came to the morphine."
Riddick's ears perked up at that. "You gave her morphine?!"
"She wouldn't take no for an answer."
"That's for sure."
Rynn gave Riddick a dirty look.
"And she's very persuasive at times." Riddick blew her a kiss and got an annoying growl back.
"Now go give those mercs hell." He bid her farewell.
"Goodbye, Ben."
"Goodbye, Rynn." They let each others hands slide out of the others and Riddick threw the switch foreward. Rynn watched as Ben grew farther and farther away as the makeshift elevator rose.
The lift of the mechanism was starting to get to Rynn. Her stomach was becoming a little upset, little light headed. She groaned, clutching her midsection.
"You alright, Rynn?" Kyra asked.
"Yeah, yeah." Rynn assured her. "Just feel a little woosy is all."
Riddick glanced back over his shoulder at her. "You sure. You aint lookin' so hot."
"I'm fine."
Some commotion began.
Prisoners, who decided to take the chance at freedom, were concened about the sun.
The sun on the planet was extremely hot. It can reach up to seven hundred degrees in mere seconds, frying you alive. Good thing for them it hasn't returned its orbit yet. But most, if not all, were still on edge. The darkness won't last.
Riddick turned around, facing them, giving orders, making one thing perfectly clear. "There's only going to be one speed." Getting right to the point. "Mine. If you can't keep up, don't step up, you'll just die." He directed that last part to little Kyra and Rynn knew it.
"She'll be fine, Riddick. She'll be with me."
"You better keep up to, woman. You still ain't lookin' to hot."
"What does that mean?"
"Don't take offense, babygirl. It's fact. Only gonna feel worse as you go...till it passes."
If Rynn didn't know any better she could have sworn Riddick was the one hooked on some drug. She had no clue what the hell he was talking about. She just shrugged it off focusing on the task at hand.
Once Riddick hit the button the doors would open and they would have to high tail it to get to safety before the sun caught up with them.
Rynn held Kyra's hand. She would make sure she stayed right with her, even if it meant dragging her.
A large hand was felt on the small of Rynn's back. Riddick's.
"Stay close to me and be as light on your feet as possible." He kissed the side of he neck.
"What did you mean?"
"Later." He brushed it off, hitting the switch to open the doors. They wasted no time running.
Riddick was running up ahead as everyone else followed.
The sun was starting to make it's way back around.
"Come on, Rynn! Keep up!"
"I'm trying, dammit!"
Riddick was so far ahead now that she, as well as the rest, lost track of him.
"Riddick!"
After a few moments of silence passed before he appeared above them.
"Suck up the cramping, Rynn and keep moving."
"How the hell do you know I'm cramping?" She was, in her stomach, and she knew he knew too. He knows all when it comes to her.
"It'll be fine. Now move!"
Rynn didn't realize that what he just said there was more to that. She just thought he meant the cramping would pass.
A bead of sweat was sliding down Kyra's face.
"Shit." Rynn cursed, realizing their window was just about gone.
"Keep going, Kyra." Rynn pushed her forward, she stumbled but Rynn caught the girl before she completely fell to the ash covered ground and the lava below.
The guards came back to the slam, once they made sure it was safe. They realized Riddick and a few others had escaped. They waited for the elevator to come back down to ride it up. They opened the heavy window doors and started shooting at the escapees.
"Where are you going?" Rynn yelled back at Riddick, darting off in a different direction.
"Just keep running. I'm right behind you." He assured her.
He went to take care of the guards that were peaking through a hole to another escape route.
Riddick got a long chain. Attached to the chain was a round, heavy ball with spikes on the end. He twirled it and swung it down, smashing it to the guard's face and kept going. "They never learn whe it comes to me."
They continued on, now running into some black, low clouds that ash was falling from.
Rynn ended up falling, collpasing to her knees, exhausted and cramping in her stomach more. "Fuck, Riddick. I can't."
"Yes you can. MOVE!"
"I Can't!" She yelled back, feeling like her lungs were going to explode. Her body wasn't cooperating this time for her.
"Come on, Rynn." Kyra encouraged. "Please keep moving. I din't come all this way just to loose you guys again."
Riddick made it to her, started looking her over, placing his hands on her stomach.
Odd.
"It'll be alright and you will be too. Now move!" He lightly growled, his shined eyes to her blue ones.
With an odd expression to Rynn's face she kept going, taking Kyra's hand again.
They all finally made it...somewhat because now they had to climb a big ass rock wall before the scorching sun completely got to them. Piece of cake, right?
