The Cost Of A Mistake
He walked around the sprawling grounds of his home. Once upon a time, these grounds had flourished, with the most vibrant of colours and the prettiest of flowers. Now they were limp and unkept. It was much the same story as inside the Manor, once a lively home, now nothing more than a well decorated prison.
He couldn't help but wonder how his life had gone so wrong so fast.
Once upon a time not so long ago, he'd had everything a man could wish for. A beautiful wife, a son, a majestic home, gold in the bank, success.
Now he was alone.
His wife had left him, his son was married with a son of his own; a child that Lucius had never seen in person. His once sort after opinion was thought of as less than nothing, and the idea of anyone coming to him with a problem was laughable.
The respect he'd been shown that he enjoyed so much was gone. When seen, which granted was not often, he was jeered at, despised for merely still being alive.
And all because of the mark on his arm.
He'd thought to try for redemption, but knew it was far too late.
He gripped a knife firmly in his hand, scraping at the stained skin. He didn't know how deep the layers were stained, but he couldn't look at his mistake for a moment longer.
It had cost him everything.
