Chapter 7
"Thanks. Now truce?" She asked. "Yeah, truce. Now, can you drop the sword so I can get up?" Lloyd asked, looking at the sword still pointed at his chest. "Oh sorry! Just didn't want to flipped again." She said lifting the sword a bit and grabbing the blade and handing him the side with the handle.
"What did you mean by, 'it's not safe to keep your emotions bottled up?" Binx asked slightly confused by his words. "Because, you need to express emotions. It's okay to, it's natural human things, haven't you ever seen Frozen?" Lloyd asked, standing up. "Yes I have." She says turning her sword back into her ring. "I still don't see the problem. I've been holding it in for years, and it actually helps me."
"You really need to give "Let it Go" another listen," Lloyd said. "Ha! I memorized it! It's just a movie. If I keep me emotions bottled up then I can 'let it go' during a fight to make me fight harder!" She says, using air quotes. But sighing, she gives in. "Fine. I'll talk to someone. Who?" Lloyd walks up to her a bit. "Well, if you want, you don't have to, you could...tell me?" He offered a little sheepishly. Binx looked at him with wide eyes.
"I mean, you don't have to, I'm sure Alexus would be more than willing to," he started to ramble on, a faint blush coloring his cheeks. She started to smile. "Yes. I'll tell you. I've already told you a lot so might as well finish. Where should I start?" She asked starting to blush too. Lloyd's face was already as red as Kia's gi! "Well, I don't exactly have a PhD, but how about where you ended?" Lloyd offered.
The other ninja had left, and only Alexus, Binx and Lloyd stayed on deck. Alexus was reading "Harry Potter" and Binx sat down on the railing to tell the story.
"After he killed my brother and gave me my scars I blacked out. He must have thought me dead, and I wished I was when I woke, and left. I dragged my brother's body home and we buried him. I keepe having these dreams... Nightmares more likely. Thistleclaw was saying, 'He died alone and afraid! You were too late! You failed him! He died because of you! You LET him die! You couldn't save him!' And so on."
She started to let the tears fall freely now. "I wish I was dead in his place. It should have been him, not me that survived. I wish I could have taken his place. He could have done so much more." Binx cried. Lloyd didn't know what to do. "I-I...I'm so sorry Binx...I didn't know..." He said softly.
One thing they didn't notice, Alexus' eyes weren't moving, she was listening to them. She couldn't help it, she already read this book seven times! She felt bad, and wished to be able to help.
"That's another reason I don't like being touched. But I'm fine with it now," Binx said, smiling at Lloyd. "If it weren't for you I would be with my brother now, you know. I don't think I fully thanked you for that."
"Well, I don't look for thanks, I just do it because it's the right thing to do," Lloyd said as casually as he could. Binx just blushes. "I-I should go now...my cat, shadow though he maybe needs to eat..." She says, getting up. She's shaking like crazy, from either the cold, the memory's, or being near her opposite. Though the latter she could not explain.
Walking to her room, she sat down on her bed and sobbed. Hugging her legs she shook from the horrible memories. Shadow saw this and raced up deck and growled at Lloyd. "What?" Was Lloyd's response. The cat motioned for Lloyd to follow and he did. Shadow lead him to Binx's room and they looked through the crack to see her in he same state. "Oh my..." Was Lloyd's breathless response. He didn't know what he'd done when he had her tell that story. Shadow hissed at him. "I know, I know. I'd be mad at me too if I were you." Lloyd whispered at the cat. He wanted to run in there and comfort her but didn't know how.
"What do I do?" he asked, crouching down. The cat tilted it's head, as if though saying, "Really?" Lloyd frowned. "Don't take that tone with me! And stop that, with the head, you look like Rylan!" he whispered. "Umm, Lloyd?" a voice came from behind him. He quickly stood up and turned around, seeing Alexus with a confused look and cocked eyebrow. "This isn't what it looks like!" he said. "You know what, that wasn't even the weirdest thing I have ever seen nor heard. Later," Alexus said, walking to her room.
The cat let's out a out low hiss. He moves the shadows a bit to creat the words 'she feels alone and scared. She blames herself. No matter what she says you MUST help her. She needs ...' The shadows stop and the cat cocked it's head, thinking. '...Comforting.' Lloyd nodded his head, shocked at the cat's ability.
In entering the room he sees Binx crying. "Lloyd! Please leave! I'm a mess!" She says covering herself with her pillow. "Oh... okay...," he said, about to step back when that cat pushes him and he steps forward. "Oh right." He whispers. "Um, Binx? Are you okay?" He asked, then mentally kicked himself. 'Of course she's not alright, a cat told me to comfort her!' He thought.
She was curled up on her bed hugging her pillow leaving just the right amount of room in her bed to sit. So, Lloyd sat down and said, "I'm sorry Binx. I didn't mean to upset you. Your brothers death is not your falt you know." She looks at him and said, "Thanks...you know, I don't know what to think of you. First, get pushed into a training center and you...never mind, then-then the truth or dare, then we train again and you hold a sword to my throat, and to top it off you comfort me of a problem you wanted me to talk about. I still am confused as to what you're like." She says honestly. "Same with you." Was his reply.
"Life is complicated," Binx said. "But what is life without confusion, it would be boring!" Lloyd said. "Simpler. Much much simpler." She said, sitting up and looking at Lloyd. Binx was not comfortable being so close to her opposite. But she sort of liked it. He unnerved her but comforted her at the same time. How was that possible? She pondered this for a moment, and another phrase from Alexus came to her. Something about the difficult life of a teenager? Yes, that must be it, what else could it be?
"Lloyd...I'm scared...this life of running to find a place to keep my home safe...of the hollowness of my life after my brother died...of fear that anyone close to me might get hurt...what do I do?" She asked him. "Gee, I don't know, I'm sorry. But, if you ever need a shoulder to cry on, I'm here," Lloyd said, giving her his sincerest look. Wiping her tears away, she had a confused look and faced her cat. The cat said something and she nodded understandingly. "T-Thanks L-Lloyd..." She says softly smiling. He liked it when she smiled. It was the exact opposite of her element. It was bright!
Next morning, at breakfast, or what should be but was not since Cole was cooking, Jay asked, "Who wants to play truth or dare?" The ninja, except Lloyd, said "yeah!"
Binx rolled her eyes and said, "Sure." Lloyd only looked annoyed and said, "Should I trust you?" They all laughed. Alexus and Rylan said, "I'm out," at the same time. "What? Why?" Jay asked. "It's not really my thing," Rylan said. "I don't feel up for interrogation or humiliation," Alexus said. "Come on, don't be lame!" Jay said. "This is me, being boring," Alexus said. With that, she stood up and walked out of the dining room. Rylan got up from his seat and called, "Wait up!" as he trotted after her.
So, they head to the training room since it's a dull rainy day, and start. "Kai, truth or dare?" asked Lloyd. "Dare!" "Okay then, reset all of your high scores!" Lloyd said slyly. The only thing Binx thought was that she didn't want Lloyd to truth or dare her.
"NOOOOOOO!" Could be heard throughout the ship. But, he did it anyway after a 15 minute talk. "Alright, my turn... Cole! Truth or dare?" Kai asked. "Dare," Cole was feeling confident. "Eat your cooking for a week nothing else! Oh. and no one else has to!"Alright, my turn... Cole! Truth or dare?" Kai asked. "Dare," Cole was feeling confident. "Eat your cooking for a week and nothing else! Oh, and no one else has to!" Cole looked fine, but they knew he wouldn't when the dare was done. "There's nothing wrong with my cooking!" He said defensively. Jay snorted and Cole glared at him. "Your turn." Jay said to Binx. She suddenly looked scared. "TRUTH!" She said so quickly, it was funnier than Kai's annoyance at Jay and Nya. Jay was starting to laugh as he asks, "okay...do you like someone and who?" Binx paled. She did not want to say it. "C-can you ask something els? Please?" She asked desperately. "Nope!" Jay said, grinning. Then, he winced. "Does Alexus have telepathic powers, because it felt like she just slapped me in the back of the head!" Jay said with wide eyes. "Yes, I do!" Alexus called from her room. Jay looked genuinely scared now. Everyone started to laugh.
"I-I..." It was like there was something in her throat, choking her, to stop her from saying it. She was redder then Kai's gi! She stands to try and run out of the room, but Cole grabbed her hands and pinned them behind her back and said, "Oh no you don't! You have got to say it!" No matter how hard she struggled she could not get out. "Can I answer only half of the Q.?" She asked. "Go ahead, I'm afraid Alexus will smack me! I swear, that girl is like River Song!" Jay said, casting the door a look. "I like River Song." Binx said, frowning. "Plus, you deserve a good slap. Okay I do like someone. I'm NOT telling you who it is." She added, smirking. Cole let her go and she just went back to her seat and hugged her legs.
"Alright, who's next?" Cole asked, looking around. "Me." It was Zane who replied. "Alright, Zane, truth or dare?" Kai asked. Zane pondered this for a moment. "Truth." Was his simple reply. "Dang, okay... I'm at a loss, Jay, a little help?" Kai asked, failing to come up with a truth about the ice ninja. "Ok um...who do you think Binx likes?" Jay asked after a moment of thought. "Really? Are we still on this topic?" Binx asked in disbelieve. "I choose not to answer that," Zane said in a polite tone. "What?" Jay and Cole shouted at the same time. "THANK YOU!" Was Binx's reply to that. "It's Binx's life and we have no right to intrude into it." "Zane's right, we should respect her boundaries." So they stopped that topic for the rest of the night. When they went to bed, Binx had a rough night. Thankfully it was a short night.
The next morning Lloyd went out on deck. Suddenly be heard Binx singing "The Weekend Whip," by The Crease.

"You know, it is crazy how well all of us can relate to that song," Lloyd said, startling her. "Wait what? You heard me sing? Oh no... I think I'm going to die of embarrassment!" She said. "I really should use a sound barrier! But what do you mean by we can a relate to that song?" She continues trying to get off the topic of her singing. Binx just was blushing so hard. Lloyd thought it looked kinda cute. "Well, I know Alexus hates Monday's, but it just, I don't know, for some reason, it's like that song was written for the team, like a theme song, or something," Lloyd said, shrugging. Binx smiled at that. "Yeah. The ninja's team. I guess you're right." She said looking out. They have landed now since the generator needed some repaires. "I-I'm going for a w-walk..want to come?" She asks. "Sure," Lloyd said walking to the railing and waiting for her. She just leapt over the railing and used wind to make her landing soft, but not slow. She smiled up at his dumbfound look. "I guess you could say that was cool," Lloyd said, before pointing out his arms, and using his ice power to make a slide. "This is most of the reason why Alexus sometimes ask me if I'm secretly Elsa's brother!" He continued, going down the slide. Binx only smiled, thinking of calling him show off but could not after her wind trick. "Really? Why not Olof? He has his on 'flurry' right?" she joked. He smiled. They went for a little walk to a near by set of trees. There was a water fall. Binx, ran, took off her combat boots and Jacket, and leaped into the small lake that the counted created, fully dosed. But as soon as she came upand layer on her back to see the sky, the part of her not in the water was compleatly dry. Lloyd gawked. "You know what, I'm not going to even ask, I'm sure there's a perfectly logical explanation. Just so you know, I am not up for swimming!" He added as an afterthought. "I know. I can't help it if there's something the water I want to find." she says doing down of to climb out a second later holding a amulet that looks a lot like a eye. "the eye of hours. Read about it in a book." she says. Water had gotten on her jacket o she grabs it and the water falls off. "isn't that Egyptian?" Lloyd asks. "yes. A sign of power."
"Interesting," Lloyd said, raising an eyebrow, looking at the object. "it's said that some can even become his host and gain some of his power with it. I don't believe in myths tho." she says handing him the amulet and grabbing her stuff. He places it in his pocket and start heading back. "You never know, some things were a myth," Lloyd said. "Key word: 'were.' Like the serpentine," he continued, mentally can tell when someone is smirking even if they look like nothing happened. She shivered even though it was scorching hot outside. Once on the boat, lloyd used his ice powers to cool himself down. "yep. Your Elsa's long lost brother." she said a laugh lighting up her eyes. He frowned pretending to be hurt by that comment. "it's not a bad thing Lloyd!" she says stepping into the shadows to cool herself off. With her black and purple cloths and Pail skin Lloyd chose that opportunity to Turn the tables. "all right then. You look like a real shadow you know." he says with a smug look on his face like he got a good one in. But it faded as she said, "So? That's just who I am. Your everyone's golden boy. I'm a shadow controller. It not a big problem." she says refusing to be hurt by the joke.
"Golden Boy?" Lloyd asked incredulously. "What's that supposed to mean?" He continued. Binx just grinned. "Spoilers," she said, walking away. "No, no, no, no, no, no! You know how many times Alexus has used that excuse?" He shouted, jogging after smiled a Riversong smile. "tell you later..."pauses to. Look baknat him "...golden boy." she starts to get away but he grabs her arm Pulls her back. "it's later." she frowns. "by two seconds!" she protests. "still later." "fine! How do you keep someone in suspense?" he gives her a confused look. "tell you later!" she laughs. He smiles down at her, being a inch or two taller. Binx felt incredibly powerless to throw him off the 'golden boy' thing "it's a spin off of one of my faveret book characters words. And your still the golden boy." she asks with a smirk."What is it with girls and book characters?" Lloyd asked himself.
"Nico di Angelo!" binx says dreamily. Lloyd rolled his eyes. "he's exactly like me you know. Scorned, for having shadow powers, hated everywhere, and by everyone except his family and friends. The only one who excepted him was his sister and she died..." she starts to walk away sad, tears starting to run remembering her brother. Lloyd, compaction starting to grow, gave her a one arm hug. She tensed, but then soon relaxed. No one had hugged her since, well, her brother died.
"I'm sorry," Lloyd said. "But, you know what they say, you're most like your favorite characters, and I know Alexus loves Amy. She's so ginger!" Lloyd said, trying to cheer her up.
"ya. Amy is cool. I like rory tho." she says half heartedly, walking to her room, leaving a helpless-to-help Lloyd behind."But, like, just imagine Alexus acting like Amy! I think the world would crash!" Lloyd said, trying to gesture with his hands what he meant.
"really? *sigh* I...I" she has bright hot tears streaming down her face. "s-sorry...I'm just...my brother...gone..." running into her room, binx falls on her bed and crys so hard, it felt like her heart was going to shatter. Unknown to her Lloyd was standing in her doorway, watching her.
"Come on, is there any way to cheer you up? Anything at all?" Lloyd asked, wanting to see her happy more than anything else right now."what!. Y-you followed me?" she asks shocked sitting up. Lloyd sat next to her. "yes but what can I do to help you?," the plead in his eyes scared her. No one had ever wanted to help her that much. "Is there anything you want to do? Watch a movie?" Lloyd continued to reached out for her hand, to comfort her. She flinched, then relaxed. "y-ya...that would be nice..." she says using her free hand to wipe away more tears.
"Is there anything you want to watch? I know Alexus has a collection of good movies," Lloyd said."have you seen big hero 6?" se asks still wiping tears. "or you could pick. I don't care.""could you show mw a doctor who?" he asks, trying to find something to get her intrest. She smiles a little. "y-ya..um...demons run where a good man goes to war is a nice one, or the doctors wife, or wedding of Riversong. My top three. But you can pick anything you want..." she says softly."How about something scary?" Lloyd asked. "Show me the reason behind the angel statues or gas mask!" Lloyd said, reflecting one of Alexus' rants of fears. "why not...shadows?" she says, pulling not only another doctor who fear, but her own powers into play. Lloyd looks intrested. "and why are shadows scary?" he asks. Standing up she holds his hand and pulls him to the tv room and starts playing silence in the library. "the vasta nerada. Living shadows that will eat you in a millisecond." she says. After watching both episodes, silence in the library, and forest of the dead, Lloyd was almost shaking but would no admit fear, and Binx, tho having seen it a thousand times, said, "I'm now afraid of my own powers..." her voice quaking, body vibrating so hard, that both there cats, shadow and ray, looked concerned.
"Come on, that episode was not scary!" Alexus said, walking into the room, startling then both.
"ya it was..." Lloyd said. Now, binx had been thinking about her talk about her brother with Lloyd. In telling him, Binx felt like he had cut her open, , took a look at her most privet feeling, then sown her back up, taking the knowledge with him. Her first instinct was to run as far away, and put as much distance between them as possible. To take her mind off of it she gave Alexus two shadows and made sure that they saw it moved from the wall two her and was not natural.
Alexus had become rigid when she saw she had two shadows. "The Vashta Nerada!" She whispered hoarsely. "I was afraid of these, I was just saying that it didn't scare me as much as the Empty Child!" She said in her hysteric voice, evident she was freaking out.
With one wave of binx's hand the shadows disappeared. "Sorry. I thought you were not scared." a smile tugging at the corner of my mouth. Lloyd looked like he was going to burst trying to hold back laughter. "um.i need to go talk to sensei...bye!" binx rushed off.
A few min later he heard her knocking on his door. "come in!" the old man called. Binx slid in. "um...sir...I'm just thinking...if there rising...the people who killed my brother...don't you think I should get my team mates?" Wu pondered this. "yes. I think you should. Head out, and I'll tell the ninja where your going and that you will be back soon. OH! And bring some of Jade's famous fennel tea!" he added. She smiled at the name of her wind mentor. "Will do. Be back soon sensia!" she called leaving. As she left she bumped into Lloyd. Litteraly. She got knocked to the ground and looked up to see a very concerned green ninja.
"Where's the fire?" Lloyd asked, thinking of the phrase Cole used in the exact same scenario. "no where?"
Jan Binx stands up and walks to her room quickly. "why we're you talking to my uncle?" Lloyd asks makeing her jump. "oh...no reson..." she lied starting to pack what little she had. "are you leaving?" he asks. "only for a short while. I must get my team. Something is going to happen, but I don't know what. Wu believes that I'm right, and my team must be prepared to face...it." she says convincingly. "will you be safe on this trip? Will something try and harm you?" he look worried. Binx's expiration was that of stone. "no. I won't lie l be in a lot of danger. Thistlecalw will try and get rid of me before i get there. Thats why I'm going alone. I dont want to get you in any danger. Any of you. I'll be back soon." Lloyd looked pained as she talked. "no." he said. "what?" was her confused response.
"No. There's no way I'm letting you go on your own if there's a chance you'll be hurt," Lloyd said."now why is that? I'm your opposite Lloyd! But that does not matter eather! It's not up to you whether or not I do it! You can't stop me!" she says firmly. Lloyd could see that she could not be reasoned with. But he would not let it go that quickly. She was his friend, and He wouldn't let her kill herself. Not without trying to protect her.
"I never said I could stop you, I know I can't. But what you can't do is stop me from going with you," Lloyd said with a definite look in his emerald eyes."What?! Are you insane?! I can't let you do that Lloyd! Your needed here! " she pleaded but the look stayed. "I'm going Binx, weather you like it or not!" he persists. "Lloyd I-!" gets cut off by the thunder clashing around the boat. "Another storm," Lloyd breathe, then he straightened his posture. "It will be fine if I go, Alexus is my backup for a reason," he said. Looks worried and even scared now. Biting her lower lip she turns her head away. "fine. Go get your stuff. It will be a long trip. Even longer with you now. Get as much food as you need. I'm fine. Meet me on deck in 30 min." Lloyd looked about ready to argue that she might try and leave by her self, but binx cut him off. "I'll wait! Hurry!" "Alright!" Lloyd said, and took off down the hall and to his room. As they walk away from the ship, it gets dark. After 3 hours of walking Binx sees Lloyd is getting tired. She never planed to sleep, but he needed to. She got some wood and he lit it. As he went to sleep she just sat there staring at the fire. Then, remembering she might jot service this trip, starts to sing the sing that her team always sung to keep up hope, I see fire, from the hobbit."Oh, misty eye of the mountain belowKeep careful watch of my brothers' souls

As she was singing the made the Wind show her images in the fire. Fighting with her team, her brothers death, her whole life... And she used her sound powers to make the non vocal sound play. Little did she know Lloyd was watching her. Well, entill she stood and snapped a twig moving over to her. She turned to face him tears streaming her shocked face, embarised that he saw her like that. "That's a nice song. Reminds me of Kai a bit," Lloyd said, nodding his head a bit. "thanks...in a fight is we are in top danger we would sing it to let the song keep our focus plus is we didn't happen to make it out..." she sings this next part of the song,

She looks back at the fire. "how much of the fire did you see lloyd? " it stopped showing her life now. "how much? If you..." she bits her lower lip and turns her face. "I- I saw it all, but I don't understand what it means!" Lloyd felt that he could not lie to her. He felt that he had to be honest and that was important."was there a-a name in you head? Did you see or hear it? If you saw it all then you must know the name!" sounds desperate. If he saw it all would have the name 'doomed shadows' pop into his head. If he knew that he would have almost full power if not full power over her. "I don't remember a name, it's all slipping away so fast, like, trying to remember a dream," Lloyd said, closing his eyes in concentration. Indeed, when he recalled the fire, it was like trying to hold water in cupped hands "lloyd, you'll remember then name when you feel you need it most... It's my secret name...i wish you had not seen it, but it's not your fault...that name will make whoever knows it have full control over me. And of course it was just my luck that my opposite knows it! The only other person was my brother, who learned it to heal me...then he gave it back to me." tears start to stream.
"I'm sorry. But, why do you speak of it as if though it's bad? I don't think, or I mean, I don't ever want to hurt you! And, opposite, why do you always call me opposite with such disdain?" Lloyd asked."I'm sorry Lloyd, it's just ...I find it terrifying that someone can Put me into full submission...and as for opposites...your light I'm shadows...light has always been able to over power shadows and it won't stop.
