Written for World Cup, Prompt DracoSeamus

WC 579

Perfectly Acceptable

Draco stroked Scorpius' hair back from his face, biting his lip with worry. He'd never imagined when they woke up for a fun day at the zoo that morning that he would be ending the day in Saint Mungo's.

Especially not when the cause for being there was his precious little boy fighting for his life.

"He's going to be okay."

Draco startled, looking up to see Seamus Finnegan in the doorway, clipboard in hand, healer robes pristine.

"Really," Finnegan added, when he saw Draco's doubtful expression. "You got him here earlier enough that the potion to counteract the bug will be fully effective. If you'd decided to wait, even as long as tomorrow morning, it would likely have been more of a struggle."

Draco nodded, looking back down at his son. "How long will he have to remain here?"

"A couple of days," Finnegan replied, glancing down at the parchment on his clipboard. "We have a parental suite attached to the child ward, if you'd like to get some rest while he's sleeping. Let me tell you from experience, those chairs are not comfortable when you're stuck in them for hours at a time."

Draco shook his head. "I don't… I don't want him to wake up alone, especially not tonight. He'll be scared if I'm not here, when I was when he went to sleep."

Finnegan smiled softly. "As you wish. I just need to cast a monitoring charm on him before I do my rounds, but if you need anything at all, just spell an alert and I'll return as quickly as possible, okay?"

Draco nodded, stepping back while Finnegan cast the charm.

"Thanks," he murmured, just before Finnegan could leave the room.

"You're looking much better!" Seamus exclaimed when he entered the hospital room, seeing Scorpius sitting up in his bed trying to catch the bubbles his father was conjuring from his wand.

Draco had the good grace to look sheepish at the bubbles, but Seamus just smiled.

"You can take him home today," Seamus told Draco, his smile widening. "His vitals are all fine, and the potion washed out any traces of the bug."

Draco returned the smile, albeit tiredly on his part. He hadn't left Scorpius' room for longer than a few half an hour trips to the cafeteria of the hospital during the entire two and a half days Scorpius had been at the hospital.

Seamus couldn't help but be impressed with that kind of parenting, as it made him feel slightly warm inside to see such a good father.

It helped Seamus to remember that good dad's were actually a thing in the world.

"Thank you," Draco said suddenly. "For not just dismissing me as paranoid when I brought him in."

Seamus nodded. "Of course. Parents tend to know these things, I'd never dismiss a genuine concern simply because it could perhaps be seen as an overreaction."

"Still. Thank you."

"No problem. And you, little man, you take care of your dad, okay?"

Scorpius babbled happily, nodding his head. Seamus chuckled, reaching out to ruffle the blonde hair of the child.

Turning back to Draco, he added, "I hope not to see you here again - at least not because the little one is poorly."

Draco's cheeks blushed a little, and he said, "What if… what if it wasn't because of Scorpius? What if it's to pick you up for a date?"

Seamus grinned, his eyes twinkling. "That's perfectly acceptable."
