Disaster (Or not)
Finished the essay with a flourish, Susan put her quill down. She rubbed her tired eyes, checking the time with a quick spell.
It was after midnight. Again.
Shaking her head at herself, she leant back into the comfortable sofa. She knew she should drag herself up to bed, but the Common Room was cozy and warm and she really didn't want to move.
She'd put all her energy into finishing her essay, and even the thought of moving was effort.
"Susan?"
Susan blinked her eyes open, wondering when she'd closed them, and looked at the staircase. Hannah was watching her with a fond look on her face.
"Are you planning to go to bed tonight at all?" Hannah asked, raising her eyebrow.
"Perhaps when I can convince myself to move," Susan agreed, her eyes falling closed. A moment later, the sofa dipped beside her and she opened her eyes again to see Hannah sitting beside her.
"You know, your aunt wouldn't want you running yourself into the ground like this," Hannah said softly.
Susan jolted at the mention of her Aunt.
"I don't know that," she muttered. "They took her from me, didn't they."
"Susan -"
"I can't, Hannah. I can't think about her because then I'll fall apart and I've been doing so well and I just -"
"It's okay to fall apart, Susan. I'll help put you back together again as many times as it takes. You know that. You're working yourself into exhaustion. Come to bed."
Susan let Hannah lead her up the many stairs to the girls dorm. She climbed into bed, shuffling over for Hannah to climb in beside her. Hannah kissed her sweetly, and then bundled Susan up in her arms, rearranging them so that Susan's head was resting on Hannah's chest.
"I love you," Susan whispered. "I'm sorry I'm such a disaster."
"I love you too. When you're a disaster and when you're not, you'll always be my Susan. That's all that matters."
