Skipping Straight to the Celebration
"I need your help."
Daphne raised her eyebrow at Pansy, waiting for her to continue. Pansy frowned at her for not immediately agreeing, but they were both Slytherins, and Daphne wasn't stupid enough to offer unconditional help.
"I'm being sued, I need representation."
Daphne's lips turned upwards. "Who are you being sued by?"
"Will you help me or not?"
"Who are you being sued by?" Daphne repeated, before she lifted her coffee to her lips and took a sip. The two of them had met up in Daphne's favourite cafe on her lunch break. She'd known that Pansy had wanted something; the two of them hadn't really kept in contact after Hogwarts.
Daphne had been more interested in pursuing her goal of being a lawyer, and Pansy wanted nothing more than to follow in her mother's footsteps of being a trophy pureblood wife. Too bad that life hadn't worked out that way for her.
"The Malfoy's."
"Why on earth would I want to pursue a case that I have very little hope of winning? And against my brother in law at that?"
Pansy sighed. "I'm in real trouble here, Daphne. Draco did say the things I said he said. He is suing for defamation, but he said the things. I didn't lie in that interview."
Daphne nodded. "I believe he probably did. I still don't understand why you think I'd represent you in a case against my little sister's husband."
Pansy smirked. "Because you hate him as much as I do."
Daphne stared at her for a long moment. "Probably. You're on."
…
"At least let me take you out to celebrate," Pansy offered, as the two left the courthouse.
Daphne nodded, gesturing for Pansy to lead the way. "That was fun," she murmured after a moment. "It's not often I can get one over on Draco."
"His face," Pansy giggled. "When the judge ruled in our favor. He looked like someone had just offered him stinksap as an appetiser."
Pansy rolled her eyes. "He made his first mistake when he chose to use Flint as his attorney. As soon as I saw that gormless oaf in the courtroom I knew you'd run rings around him."
Daphne chuckled. "Yes, well. Lunch with the family this weekend will likely be very entertaining if nothing else. Draco does like to keep his little snits going."
Pansy nodded. "He does. Come on, there's a simply glorious restaurant just around the corner from here. They serve the most marvelous wine."
Daphne smiled. "Now you're talking my language."
…
Daphne checked her reflection in the mirror. Pansy walked up behind her, still wearing little more than the sheet from her bed.
"If you need representation again, you know where to find me," Daphne offered her, smirking.
Pansy's eyes gleamed. "And if I'd prefer to skip straight to last night's celebration?"
Daphne turned and pressed a soft kiss to her lips. "Then you still know where to find me."
