Tempt You Away

Salazar wrapped his arms around her from behind, dropping a kiss to her shoulder. She leant into his touch, even as she batted at the hands on her waist.

"I know you're very busy," he murmured against her skin. "But even Professor Ravenclaw needs to take a break sooner or later."

She smiled despite herself, putting her quill down on the desk. "How is Helga?"

Salazar sighed. "As well as she has been. It is unfair, that she is the first of us to pass."

"Death doesn't discriminate," Rowena replied. "And besides, she may yet live to smile another day. Nothing is certain."

He nodded. "Will you come with me to visit with her, and then perhaps tempt you to a stroll around the grounds?" he asked. "We have had no quality time together for what feels like an age."

Looking back at the pile of parchment she had yet to read through and correct, Rowena nodded. She knew better than most how important it was to keep loved ones close.

After Helena…

"Yes, I'll join you. I will regret this decision tomorrow, and you are not allowed to hold it against me when I curse your name under my breath."

Salazar chuckled.

"I promise I won't take offence," he assured her, stepping back so she could stand and move away from her desk. He took her hand in his own the moment she was beside him, and the two left her office, taking the long walk across the castle to the hospital wing.

Helga was sitting up in the bed, looking much better than she had the day before when Rowena had visited after breakfast. Her face lit up when she saw Rowena and Salazar. She greeted them cheerfully, a wide smile immediately wiping away any signs of illness.

Rowena asked after her health and poured over the latest stats from the healer, her heart lifting a little when she saw her friend's improved vitals.

They stayed at the hospital wing for almost an hour before Salazar tugged Rowena out into the fresh air of the spring evening. She shivered as a breeze rushed around them and he put his arm around her shoulders, holding her close.

"I love you, he murmured.

"I love you too," she replied quietly. "Even if that may not be true in the morning."

His laughter echoed around the grounds.
