Wherever There Was

Teddy reminded her painfully of Dora sometimes. Both of them were ingenuitive, amusing and had perfected the 'I am innocent, I promise' look by the time they were three years of age.

For Andromeda, it was bittersweet, watching and aiding her grandson in growing up, all the while knowing that it should be Dora here with him, experiencing all of his firsts and achievements.

How Teddy's fifth birthday had arrived already, Andromeda had no idea, but she watched him running around the Burrow garden with a few of his playschool friends and little Victoire, she could help but feel nostalgic.

She remembered hosting a similar party for her Dora at the same age, and Teddy's rapidly changing hair was causing her even more flashbacks to the beautiful mischievous child her daughter had been.

Harry was in charge of the children, and she smiled at him when he sent a concerned glance her way. He'd been getting steadily more worried about her as the years passed them by, her health hadn't been great and she felt unreasonably frail given her relative young years.

"Grandma!" Teddy cried, running across the garden towards her. "Uncle Harry caught a butterfly for me!"

"Did he really?" she asked, feigning interest in his excited chatter. She knew that Harry would keep him for the rest of the weekend, and so she reveled in her time with him for a few moments, basking in his undivided attention as he nattered to her.

While she was his primary caregiver, as he aged, Harry and Ginny were taking him more and more often to give her a break. He was just too energetic for her to handle a lot of the time.

"Grandma has to go in a minute, Ted," she told him a few hours later, holding her arms out for a hug. He was immediately in her arms, tired from the party and being a little clingy. She lifted him, ignoring the pain it caused in her chest, and held him tight. "I love you."

"Love you, Grandma," he replied, nuzzling his face against her chest for a moment. His eyes were heavy and she handed him over to the waiting Harry, smiling when Teddy immediately curled into his godfather, his eyes falling shut.

"I'll firecall tomorrow," Harry promised, leaning over to press a kiss to her cheek.

Andromeda nodded, patting his cheek.

She paused when she got to the fireplace to floo away, turning back to see Harry standing with Charlie and Bill, Teddy fast asleep in his arms as Harry automatically rocked side to side. It made her happy to know that when her declining health finally failed her, Teddy would be in the best hands.

She knew it wouldn't be long. She also knew that Dora and Ted would be waiting for her there, wherever there was.
