Congratulations
Harry groaned, dropping his head to the table. He was never going to get this right. The book lay open in front of him, taunting him with all of the words that made sentences Harry just didn't understand.
Why did he need to know about plants to heal?
Okay, so he understood that he'd have to do at least one rotation on the plants and poisons ward, but…
He didn't get it.
Never before had he wished he'd paid more attention in Herbology.
Becoming a Healer was Harry's second chance at being able to protect people. So many people had died or been hurt in the war, and while logically he knew that he wasn't actually responsible for that, knowing that he would be spending his life healing people's ailments was much better than being an Auror.
At least for Harry.
He was just so tired of fighting, and the thought of continuing to fight throughout his adult life had been too much to deal with.
…
"Hey, how goes the studying?" Neville asked, letting himself into the flat they shared.
Harry lay slumped on the sofa, his book open on his chest, glaring at Neville. "It's going through the window," he muttered, lifting his legs when Neville prompted him too and then laying them across Neville's lap.
"What are you struggling with?"
Harry handed him the book. "All of it. The words are foreign and they don't string into sentences and I don't get it."
Neville took the book and snorted. "I'm not surprised this doesn't make sense if you actually want to learn anything. These are crap. Let me up."
Harry moved and Neville left the room, returning a few minutes later with two books in his hand. "Read these instead, they should help make it easier to understand."
Harry accepted the books gratefully and let Neville sit down, moaning in pleasure when Neville's hands started kneeding gently at his calves.
Ten minutes was all it took for Harry to be sleeping soundly on the sofa, Neville watching on with amused fondness.
…
"I passed!" Harry shouted, wrapping his arms around Neville and kissing him soundly on the lips.
When he realised what he'd done, he stepped back sharply, both of the young men blinking at each other.
"Finally," Neville breathed out after a moment, stepping back into Harry's space to press their lips more firmly against each other.
When he pulled away, it was with a smile on his lips and a twinkle in his eyes.
"Congratulations."
