Memory Fail
Sirius was forgetful. That was a fact, and everyone knew it. He forgot birthdays (including his own), anniversaries, dates, coffee meetings. It was a part of who he was, and his friends and boyfriend tended to not get mad at him for it.
Remus wasn't expecting Sirius to remember their anniversary. And it was fine, because Remus would remind him the morning of, and would plan something for them so that Sirius wouldn't feel needlessly guilty.
Except… Sirius was being secretive. And Remus hated when Sirius was secretive because Sirius being secretive usually meant that Remus would have to apologise to someone. Or a lot of someone's.
On the morning of their anniversary, Remus woke to find their bed empty, and Sirius nowhere to be found. He got out of bed, got himself ready for the day, using Sirius' brush because he was starting to feel grumpy and Sirius hated people using his brush.
When there was no sign of Sirius in the rest of the flat, Remus settled down with a book, unable to concentrate but unwilling to panic just yet.
…
He was panicking by the time Sirius showed up, a happy smile on his face.
"Remmy!"
"Where the hell have you been?" Remus demanded, standing up from where he'd been sitting all day. "I've been worried about you!"
"I left a note… I think. Did I leave a note? I meant to leave a note."
"You have invented a new kind of stupid," Remus said, rubbing a hand across his temple. "No, you didn't leave a note! You've been gone the whole day and it's our anniversary, Sirius. You know I don't expect you to remember, but I do expect you to be here."
Sirius frowned. "What? But… Remmy, our anniversary is next week?"
Remus shook his head. "Today."
Sirius leant back against the wall, a defeated look on his face. "You mean I messed up again? I was so determined to get it right, to make it up to you for all the years you've planned everything because I'm a mess."
"Sirius -"
Sirius took out a small box and handed it over. "Your present, I guess."
"Sirius, presents and plans don't matter. All I need is you, you know that."
Sirius watched him closely as he sighed and opened the box, a gasp leaving his mouth as he stared at the gold bracelet. It had their names inscribed across the metal plate.
Sirius' eyes lit up in triumph when Remus smiled up at him. "It's beautiful."
"So… I know it's not actually on our anniversary, but can I take you out on Saturday?" Sirius asked, moving forwards to wrap his arms around Remus' waist.
"You can take me out anytime you like. But. I still expect you to make today up to me, so come. Sit. Snuggle."
Sirius laughed but allowed Remus to lead him over to the sofa.
"Oh. and. Erm."
"Hmm?" Sirius hummed in question, wrapping his arms around Remus tightly.
"I used your brush."
"Remmmmmy."
