Chapter 6: The Camp Part 2

Earlier with the other three.

Spirit watched as the two dragons seemingly paced around the same area without any attention at all.

"You really think the apes use them at all or do you think they get some sort of sick joy out of turning dragons into submissive addicts?" Frost asked in a whisper.

"Probably a bit of both, but more from the second category." Spirit answered.

The dragons in particular were dressed in a dark grey armor with a rather crude design as if rushed to be created. The ice dragon was quite thin and looked rather sickly; his eyes were sunken in and would dart around; his expression: one of panic. The earth dragon how ever looked completely apathetic to his situation and while there were visual distinctions of his use of synth gems they were not as bad as the ice dragon.

"The Ice dragon looks like he would flee if we were to appear." Fira stated. "I cannot read the earth dragon though."

Spirit pointed to the small group apes nearby.

"We need to clear them out first." Spirit stated.

Luckily an ape appeared running from the direction of the caves.

"Dragons are here to rescue the prisoners." The ape shouted.

An armored ape rose and motioned for the others to follow him. In a moment only the two dragons were remaining looking clueless to what just happened.

"Convenient." Spirit chimed.

"So how are we going to do this?" Fira asked.

"We go out and confront them." Spirit answered. "See what they do."

"Not a good idea they are after all on the ape's side." Fira stated.

"Perhaps not besides the ice dragon looks like he would rather avoid a fight." Frost stated.

"If we can solve this without confrontation then we will be in better shape to back up our friends." Spirit added.

Frost nodded in agreement.

"So we just walk out there then?" Fira asked.

"Yes." Spirit answered. "But remain on guard."

Spirit moved out from her hiding spot and motioned for the others to follow. The Ice dragon noticed them first and gave off a panicked yelp.

"Y-you s-shouldn't be h-here." The ice dragon stuttered.

Spirit just stared at the dragon with both curiosity and caution.

"Y-your s-s-stare is m-making me n-nervous." The Ice dragon stated.

By this time the earth dragon had noticed the three facing the ice dragon.

"Interlopers." The earth dragon growled.

"W-wait they a-are dragons like us." The ice dragon stated.

"They intrude on our master's territory." The earth dragon growled.

The ice dragon gave a terrified look.

"Temarus." The ice dragon shrieked. "Are you that desperate for g-gems that you would bow to t-those vile freaks?"

"I need them Krytis." Temarus roared. "Or I will be just like you, weak and jumpy."

Frost gasped and Spirit turned to him.

"Something wrong?" Spirit asked.

"Don't you recognise the name Krytis?" Frost asked.

Spirit shook her head.

"Commander Krytis." Frost stated. "One of the most influential members of Warfang's Elite guard."

"H-how t-the mighty h-have fallen." Krytis stated with a nervous laugh. "Stuck here as n-nothing more than an a-addict to whatever poison t-those apes give us."

Temarus had stopped listening and with a roar of blind rage he charged at the others. The three young dragons rolled out of the way but Kytis stood his ground. Unfortunately in his weakened stated the earth dragon laid him out. Krytis tried to struggle under the weight of the earth dragon but it was a futile gesture the earth dragon had more leverage.

"Perhaps you should have kept those gems instead of giving them to me." Temarus chuckled darkly.

"I prefer weakness and pain to the false energy those gems bring." Krytis growled.

Temarus growled and made to bite Krytis's throat, but luckily for Krytis the young dragons rushed to defend him. Temarus roared in pain as a blast of fire scorched his side causing him to stumble off of Krytis. Frost then froze his paws to the ground. Normally an earth dragon would either use their strength or element to break the ice but Temarus did not have enough energy to use his elements. He struggled with the Ice. Meanwhile the three young dragons were helping Krytis recover. They gave him a true green spirit gem which he happily accepted and absorbed.

"Ancestors." Krytis groaned. "I haven felt this refreshed in a while."

Krytis gave an appreciative nod to the young dragons who then smiled up at him. Unfortunately Temarus finally broke out of the ice. He turned to the young dragons and gave an angry snarl. The young dragons got into combat stance and motioned for Krytis to stand back. Temarus gave a roar as he charged at the dragons. An error on his parts as the smaller dragons leaped out of his way causing him to stumble as he tried to stop. The younger dragons leaped into combat immediately. Frost moved to again freeze Temarus' paws to the ground which once again cause a struggle to get free. Frost began building the ice up and then back up allowing Fira to jump in and thaw the ice causing a big puddle to form under Temarus.

"Was that wise young ones." Temarus growled unaware of the two young dragon smiles. "I am free to crush you n…"

He was cut off as electricity coursed through his body causing him to scream in pain until he was finally rendered unconscious. Spirit stood behind him with her two forepaws in the puddle and a smile on her face.

"That went well." Spirit chimed.

Krytis went and sat near Temarus.

"I will keep him pacified until whatever cavalry you have shows up to rescue us." Krytis stated.

"That should be soon but if you can do that we will meet up with the others and help them." Frost replied.

"Then go quickly that armored ape that left with the rest may not look like it but if the other apes reactions to his presence were any indicator he is either really strong or very important." Krytis stated.

The young dragon nodded and moved quickly as they could in the direction the ape group left. Krytis merely stayed lying next to Temarus.

Spyro, Cynder and Terrik patrolled the caves entrance waiting for Flame to appear from the interior. Cynder halted as she noticed a familiar sound.

"I guess the apes reinforcements are finally closing in." Cynder stated.

"Well then let's prepare to hold them off." Spyro replied.

Sure enough a large group of apes (Approximate number 20) appeared down the path they moved forward at a steady pace and halted once they were close to the cave. The armored ape stepped out from the group and slowly approached the dragons but kept himself at a decent distance.

"Well we meet again." The armored ape grunted.

"Have we met before?" Cynder asked. "I'm sorry you apes all look the same."

"Still as mouthy as ever Cynder." The ape grunted as he took off his helmet.

Cynder got into a combat stance.

"Gaul." She growled.

The dragons were noticeably shocked by the revelation.

"What would the Ape king be doing here?" Terrik asked.

"Trying to sort out the mess that is this camps leadership." Gaul growled as he motioned his head towards the ape that had earlier fled to find reinforcement.

"Oh yeah I forgot, intelligence is a rare gift among apes." Terrik stated with a smirk.

"I would be offended by that remark if it was not true." Gaul growled.

The apes behind Gaul had varied reactions mostly clueless head scratching but some of them had enough cognitive process to understand the insult and as a result growled at Terrik but Gaul merely raised his hand in a motion for the apes to hold position.

"I will handle these two first then when the rest come you can fight." Gaul growled.

Gaul unsheathed his twin swords while Spyro and Cynder readied for combat.

(One dramatic fight scene that I am too lazy to write [for now] later)

Cynder parried Gaul's sword with her metal tail blade allowing Spyro to dive in and push him back. The ape growled as he recovered from the stumble, unfortunately Cynder leapt over Spyro and brought her tail down in a vertical slice taking his left eye and leaving a deep cut. Gaul roared in agony as the tree intelligent apes in the crowd moved forward to recover their wounded commander.

"Sir we should fall back." One of the apes suggested.

Gaul growled in pain.

"This is not over whelplings." Gaul growled before motioning to the rest of the apes "cover my retreat."

Gaul limped away supported by the three apes that were assisting him while the others charged forth into the three young dragons. Spyro and Cynder were exhausted from the fight but these apes were common fodder that could be taken down with little effort. The apes continued to charge only to be stopped when a large green dragon charged first out of the cave and moved down the four apes in the front. Flame came out of the cave afterwards followed by four adult dragons who when they noticed the surviving apes they charged into battle eager to unleash their pent up anger on their former captors while flame approached Spyro.

"I thought we would have to send someone in after you." Spyro stated.

"There were few apes that even posed a challenge in there." Flame replied. "It seems that the cave was also an alcohol stash as most of the apes were either drunk or passed out."

"So then freeing the prisoners was easy then?" Terrik asked.

"Just smashed a few collars and chains and the guards were helpless under the horde of angered prisoners." Flame answered with a confident smirk.

"What should we do now?" An earth dragon asked.

"We need to check on the rest of our team." Spyro answered before turning to Cynder, Flame and Terrik. "Cynder I want you see if anyone needs help here, Flame and Terrik you go check on the others I will go signal the rescue team."

Each dragon nodded and went to their assigned tasks.

Fira felt sort of out of place as Spirit and Frost quietly chatted as they walked along the rocky path towards the cave. They got half way to the cave before bumping into Flame and Terrik.

"Oh hey we were coming to back you up." Fira stated.

"No need we completed our task." Flame replied.

"So we are done here?" Spirit asked.

"Did you subdue the dragons?" Terrik asked.

"One of them was cooperative and is currently watching over the cooperative one." Spirit answered.

"Well then I think we are done here and now all we need to do is wait for Spyro to return with the rescue team." Terrik stated.

Frost nodded happily at this statement before turning to Spirit.

"We will go back and wait with the subdued dragons." Frost stated.

Fira walked up to Terrik and nuzzled him.

"I guess that means me and you will head to the cave with Flame?" Fira asked.

"Yeah." Terrik answered as he returned Fira's nuzzle.

Flame just sighed; he was nauseated by all this mushy stuff around him or maybe he was just jealous.

Spirit smiled as she walked beside Frost unknowingly moving closer to his side until she made contact. Frost did not mind the contact in fact he smiled.

"Making moves are we." He teased.

Spirit jumped back.

"I-I-I ah…" Spirit stuttered as she blushed and looked away. "Sorry."

Frost snickered.

"You know I heard you say something about wanting to be closer to me." Frost stated.

Spirit's jaw dropped.

"Y-you heard t-that." Spirit stuttered.

"Yes and truth be told." Frost began as he stopped and moved closer to Spirit. "I want to be closer to you as well."

"But if move too fast we might…"

"Ruin this relationship." Frost cut in. "We are just friends right now; you choose when we change that."

"Thank you Frost." Spirit whispered.

Frost nodded happily and the two continued on.

*A few hours later*

Krytis looked around at the other dragons who sat idly around the cave entrance waiting to be checked over by the healers that accompanied the soldiers that came from Warfang. He sighed and looked Over at Temarus who was being kept under sedatives due to him lashing out. The very memory of the event caused Krytis to frown.

"Don't worry brother." Stated an ice dragoness only a few years younger than Krytis. "We will get Temarus back on his feet soon."

Krytis turned to the ice dragoness, his sister Glacial. He snickered at the irony of the current situation. He always considered himself responsible for taking care of his younger sister so the fact that she was tending to him now was sure to be an enjoyable memory for both of them. He then turned his attention to the young dragons who had helped him earlier. Spirit and Frost were discussing something and by the sound of it the topic was forming a stable relationship. The purple dragon was talking to the lead healer who was a Wolf. He could see the rest of the group just idling around but they were either out of range for their voices to be heard or their voices were drowned out by other conversations taking place around the camp.

Author's note: Sorry for taking so long but with Exams over i was able the ending to this after staving off writers block.

Unfortunately its back so I will be putting this story on hiatus for a while and perhaps take a step away from Spyro for a while to see if that may help. Instead I will be working on some fanfics for different series mainly I have an FNAF (Non-ship fic) in planning and I have the beginning of a pokemon fanfic already written perhaps writing these too will allow me to com back and continue this story and maybe even heritage without hindrance.

Oh and sorry about not completing the fight scene between Gaul Spyro and Cynder. It went through four different rewrites each one worse then the next so I decided to pass it and com back to it later.
