Chapter 66

Vince and Linda rushed forward but they were shocked when more gunshots blasted out, making it clear that they couldn't come any closer to the house. Vince wasn't sure if Shane had actually shot anyone inside, but it was clear he was still shooting to make it clear he wanted no one coming anywhere near him. Vince and Linda backed up till they were at the cars with the other people who had come with them and they could see that everyone was trying to come up with something that would get through to Shane inside. Vince had felt his heart drop when Stephanie had called and told him just how far gone his son had become, and Vince knew that Jamie was going to do everything she could to protect her two newborn sons that were inside and were in desperate need of their own medical care. Vince couldn't believe his own son had gotten to this point and he hadn't done anything to help those who needed him to make sure that they were protected. Vince should have not protect Shane from getting into trouble, if he had really wanted to help his son, he should have made him face the consequences and get some real help. That was why he and Linda had actually gone there, the people with them were actually from a hospital. One of them was a psychiatrist and he was going to evaluate Shane secretly to see if he needed to be committed, now it was apparent he definitely needed to be committed, if they could just get him and everyone else out of there alive.

Hunter was pale and shaking after Stephanie told him what her mother had called to tell her. When Linda had called to tell her daughter that not only had they arrived at the place, but that Shane was armed and they had heard at least two gunshots, he had felt sheer terror as his heart froze in his chest and his world seemed to stop spinning. He was terrified that Shane had fully snapped and shot his two innocent sons, the little ones that needed medical attention and needed to be protected because they were so young and helpless. Hunter could only pray that Jamie and their son's were all right, because he couldn't stand the thought of losing his family. Although they had technically named their boys, without telling anyone fully, they had actually started changing their minds on names, they had made a list of what they really wanted their son's to be named and they were going to be filling out the birth certificate within the week, but now, he didn't know if his boys would be issues birth certificates and death certificates at the same time.

"Hunter, I can assure you that if we find a way to make sure that Jamie and the boys get out of there safely, we are going to make sure Shane gets locked away somewhere and gets some help. My parents brought a shrink out there with him, and he has already told my parents that he is ready to commit Shane to a hospital to get him well enough to stand trial for everything… we all want him to face what he has done to you all and he doesn't deserve to get away with it. We know that if he gets locked away somewhere, not only will you all have peace of mind and feel better, but we will know where he is and that he can't hurt anyone and he is as safe as we can make him." Stephanie said, she was shaking and pale herself, aware that her big brother was no longer the brother she remembered for so long.

"I just want my family home safe and sound. Our son's need medical attention, and I know Jamie will sacrifice herself before she will let Shane hurt our boys… I can't stand the thought of losing any of them." Hunter said, his voice cracking from the fear and the pain of knowing just how bad things really were at this point.

"We are going to do everything we can to make sure that doesn't happen. We are going to bring in the best people to try and get through to him, and we are going to do whatever we can to make sure that the three innocent lives that are at risk, are top priority. I know that our family needs to come to terms with the fact that we might lose Shane, and it is killing me inside to know this." Stephanie said, her heart breaking as she realized that if it came down to it, when the police were there, that if they needed to take out Shane to save Jamie and the twins, they would do it.

"I'm sorry if it comes to that." Hunter said honestly. He knew that even though Shane had become a psychotic person, he was still Vince and Linda's son and he was still Stephanie's big brother. He knew that despite all of that, they would have happy memories with him and it would make things so much harder if he were to be killed to save Hunter's family, but they would understand it if it came to that point.

"I know you will be." Stephanie said, trying to give him a smile but unable to. They both knew there was a chance that either one or both of them could lose someone they loved very much, and they both prayed that someone would be able to get through to Shane.

Jamie was shaking as she looked at the hole in the wall next to where the twins were in their car seats. Shane was grinning as he watched Jamie struggle to settle the twins but he hadn't just done it because he knew it would terrify and rattle Jamie, he had done it to make a point and to make the people outside back off. Jamie knew that Shane loved her reaction and the way she had tried to get in front of the twins to shield them if the blast was aimed at them. She was aware that he was proving just how much he didn't care and just how far he would go if he felt like it. It was more in that moment that Jamie realized that there was a chance no one would be able to get through to him and that he was so far gone, that there was a chance that the only way that Jamie and the boys would survive is if Shane didn't. Jamie knew in that moment, things had changed drastically and that if she didn't find a way to get through all this crazy inside of Shane and find the old Shane, the sane one that his family knew and loved, then there was going to blood shed inside that house, it was just a matter of time and there was no telling whose blood would be spilled.
