Chapter 72: Legendary

(On Planet Torappu)

A stray thought hit Ginyu. 'Could it be…' An electric thrill ran through him. If he was right about this, he could not only prove his true worth to his new master, Lord Turles once and for all, but he could even become the most powerful Saiyan in the universe. Such a thought had once disgusted him, but after spending so much time working beneath Turles he had come to recognize the advantage the Saiyans had over nearly every other race. Every injury simply made them stronger. It was the perfect body.

Rising to his feet Ginyu felt determination fill him, he would not fail, he had to have that body. With all his might he reached out towards Broly and locked him into his psychic grip, just like he had a hundred times before. As shouted the words he thought he never would again "CHANGE NOW!"

A strange sensation overtook Broly for a moment, pulling him out of his bloodlust. It was as if something was trying to bind his body.

His face contorted into a snarl, he couldn't see what was binding him, but that didn't mean it could hold him. Quickly he pushed back against the unseen force, shattering its grip on him in an instant.

It only took the Saiyan warrior and instant to determine that the purple warrior with the strange orange light surrounding him was the cause. He watched with casual interest as a strange beam slowly made its way towards him.

Normally he would tank such a slow, weak looking attack, but for some reason his instincts were telling him to avoid it. So, at the very last second, Broly vanished.

Turles slammed his feet deeply into the rock stopping his forward motion, just as Ginyu's strange attack passed him by.

For a second his opponent had appeared distracted even if it was because of Ginyu's interference, Turles had been fully prepared to start paying back the giant for the welts that were already forming on his just healed body.

Now though he had once again had an opportunity vanish before his eyes. He couldn't believe just how fast this Broly really was. "Damn it! where'd he go?" He shouted, the same instant Broly appeared above him. Already diving down knee first into Turles back and driving him deeply into the planet's surface.

Ginyu watched on in horror as his body snatching technique stretched outwards passed his intended target. Before finally colliding connecting with another body to switch with.

The speed of the fighting around Paragus had been too much for the weaker fighter to follow. The only thing he could tell was his son was winning, as expected. So, his entire focus was making sure Broly was able to vent his frustration while Paragus kept his control.

He was so focused on this task, he never even noticed the orange beam approaching him, until it had already crashed into his body.

A strange sensation rushed over the elder Saiyan warrior, as he realized he was having an out of body experience. For a moment he thought he was dead, killed by a stray attack. But that passed instantly, he was being pulled somewhere. Just as he realized the feeling had passed, and he was watching the same fight unfolding from the other side of the battlefield.

It took a moment, for Paragus to fully realize something was off. Broly was looking at him, not in a way he had seen since he had stolen his eye from him. "Broly no!" Paragus shouted, as he reflexively squeezed the remote in his hand. Only for it to not be there.

In horror he looked down to see a pair of purple hands where his tan ones normally were. His eyes were wide in terror as a crazed smile crossed Broly's lips a large purple attack already charged in his hands.

"Broly it's me! Nooo-!" He shouted as he vanished in a wave of green energy.

As the battlefield came into view, the first sight Gohan was greeted with was the sight of Ginyu's demise.

Once more his familiar feeling of rage surged up within him. He allowed this anger to boost him as he launched forward intending to avenge the strange purple alien that he had started to consider a friend.

Ginyu looked down at his hands, and realized he might've missed his intended target, but if he understood the relationship between the two Saiyans correctly, he might've gotten the next best thing.

Gripping onto the control device he let out a yell, "Broly, stop fighting this instant!" Ginyu shouted expecting immediate compliance.

Broly for his part acted as if he hadn't even heard the command as he pulled a bruised and battered Turles from the rubble beneath them by one arm. Then planting his foot square in his back, he began to pull, just hard enough that Turles began to let out a yell. His joints protesting under the strain, his tendons threating to snap under the pull.

Exactly how Broly wanted him, he wanted Kakarot to feel every delicious moment of agony as he pulled him apart piece by piece.

"Damn it! Stop already!" Ginyu shouted again beginning to wonder if he had misjudged the viability of his current host. The alien technology in his hand didn't appear to make any sense.

Out of nowhere a small streak cut across the sky and lashed out with both feet, embedding themselves in Broly's cheek.

Broly's head had barely even moved as his eyes straining to look at the small Saiyan who had decided to interfere with his fun.

Without any hesitation, Broly allowed one hand to release Turles' arm from his grasp, confident he could continue to rip Turles arm off with just the other. With his now free hand he grasped the Saiyan child by the leg instead. Without any hesitation he slammed him down into the planet's crust, just feet from where Turles had been embedded moments before.

Turles took the momentary loosening of the grip for all it was worth though, putting his free hand out in front of himself he let loose a powerful Ki blast, allowing his body to rocket backwards, beneath Broly's legs.

The unexpected pull caught Broly off guard as his upper body was pulled forward, his balance completely lost as he went head first into the rocky ground below. Finally allowing Turles to break his grip.

As the low-born Saiyan warrior rose to his feet again, he protectively guarded his left arm, he'd managed to keep his arm attached, at the cost of dislocating his shoulder. He'd have to fix it next chance he got, but at the moment, he needed to focus everything he had on dealing some damage for once.

Without hesitation he rushed forward and managed to catch Broly in the side of the chest just as he started to rise. Eliciting a grunt from the other Saiyan. It wasn't much, but it was at least a sign he felt that one.

As Broly flipped over in the air, Turles had already prepared a blast and let it loose right in Broly's face as soon as he was facing him.

Broly's spin stopped just as the blast detonated though, the smoke clearing to reveal a mad smile on the Saiyan's unharmed face.

Before Turles could react Broly's hands had grabbed his head from both sides and pulled his nose directly into Broly's forehead.

Gohan hit the ground hard, not only did he shatter the rocky surface, but he still rebounded off the second layer of rock and skidded a short distance away.

Raditz rushed forward again, hoping he could provide another brief distraction. A sense of fear beginning to creep into his mind for the first time, as Broly continued to headbutt Turles in the face over and over again 'Is this what Shizen was talking about?' A part of him wondered if he should just grab Gohan and run. But at the same time, he couldn't fully give up hope. They had Turles and Gohan on their side, one of the two always seemed to come through in the end. There was no way they could actual lose…was there?

Turles's could barely open his eyes between the blood running down from his forehead and the blinding pain from his pulverized nose. He wasn't done fighting yet though, as Broly closed in for yet another strike, Turles opened his mouth and let loose a canon of energy from his mouth, hoping to at least break the cycle.

His attack was again proven ineffective, as Broly's head cut right through the attack, smashing into Turles' teeth breaking most of the teeth in the front of his mouth.

Broly winced slightly, as a shattered piece of Turles' tooth had embedded itself in his forehead from his own attack. That slight lack in concentration was just the opening Raditz was looking for.

That same instant Raditz appeared behind Broly and brought a low sweeping kick across the backs of both of Broly's knees.

Broly's grip loosened just for a moment, allowing Turles to once more slip free as Broly tumbled backwards.

Raditz dashed forward hoping to get clear of the giant's landing spot. At that same instant Broly lashed out wildly as he fell. One of his hands colliding with the back of Raditz's thigh.

Raditz couldn't help but let out a pained scream as his thigh bone shattered like a twig.

Purely out of instinct he rolled away as much as he could stand, before both hands desperately grasping at his throbbing leg.

A few feet to his left Broly was already beginning to rise.

Turles had wasted no time recovering from his own escape and was now high in the air, desperately charging his most powerful attack. His rage at being treated like a rag doll boiling over. At this point it didn't matter if he destroyed the whole planet, he just wanted to hurt the bastard who had been thus far treating him as his personal punching bag.

During that exchange, Ginyu had been diligently working on trying to figure out how the supposed control device for Broly actually worked. He was beginning to get a rough idea though, to actually operate it you had to channel your own energy in to control such a powerful warrior.

Gohan forced himself up from the rubble, his entire body hurt, but as soon as he shook off the cobwebs, he remembered the severity of their situation.

Above he saw Turles charging attack, likely one intending to finish the fight. He couldn't help but notice that the older Saiyan appeared to be planning something with the strange device in his hands. With the desperation of the fight unfolding around him, Gohan couldn't allow any interference, and prepared to eliminate the threat.

A massive ring of energy had formed in front of him by this point. His attack was prized trump card. When he was younger he had even managed to kill another Saiyan in their Oozaru form. He was prepared to put every ounce of strength he had into this attack; just like that time, he would use it to kill a beast of a Saiyan. "KILL DRIVER!" Turles shouted as he unleashed his attack.

Ginyu took that as his signal to act, focusing all of his Ki into the device he shouted "BROLY! STOP FIGHTING!" As loud as he could.

Broly had already been standing still intending to tank the attack head on, but just as the attack was about to reach him, the psychic attack assaulted him, causing his otherwise invincible shield to falter for a moment as he faced a powerful two-sided attack.

In that same instant Ginyu had let out his yell, Gohan had already appeared behind him, letting out a yell of his own, a powerful attack already charged up in his hands. "THIS IS FOR GINYU!" He shouted as he unleashed Ginyu's own finishing move the Milky Cannon point blank into his back.

Ginyu let out a scream as his newly acquired body began to dissolve before as the attack lanced across the battlefield. It was only after he unleashed it that the oddity of Paragus' words crossed Gohan's mind. It was far to late to turn back now though. By the time Gohan's attack had collided into Broly's right side, Paragus' body had been reduced to nothing but atoms.

For the first time in over a decade a sense of freedom rushed through Broly's head. It was clear, truly clear. And with the apparent clarity came something else, pure unrestrained power.

The green energy burst forth, completely unrestrained, pushing the ring of energy, and the small trickle pouring onto him back as if they were nothing but leaves stuck in the wind.

For the three Saiyan warriors, there was no choice but to retreat from the expanding shell of energy as fast as they could.

Gohan could barely spare to glance as Recoome's still limp body vanish inside the seemingly endless well of energy. His anger was welling up again, but he just hoped he could manage to keep it in check long enough to escape the blast radius. Then this monster would pay for every one of his friends it had killed today.

(Back on Earth)

"Really then? Fine Piccolo, if you're so confident, go ahead and show me what you can do." Cell said as he turned to face his Namekian adversary.

Piccolo stretched his neck both directions causing a satisfying crack in both directions. "I take it the tournament style rules are out?" Piccolo asked as he mentally prepared himself for the coming fight. Since Cell had his DNA, it meant that Piccolo had the advantage. He knew his species own abilities better than anyone on the planet, and he also knew how to get around them.

"Hmmm, you're right, there isn't much stage left...It was a nice idea while it lasted. Yes, tournament rules are off" Cell idly stated.

"Good, I'd hate for this to fall under any technicalities." Piccolo replied confidently as his body was immediately surrounded by an intense red aura as he lurched forward, even faster than Cell was expecting, almost fast enough that the strange utterance Piccolo had made, distracted him from the fact that the glow of Piccolo's left hand just slightly brighter than the rest.

Cell confidentiality raised his arm, as he mapped out Piccolo's known strategies in his mind, even with the apparent deception, he was confident that the obviously over-charged hand was a feint. Cell raised his arm to block the attack anyway, playing along with Piccolo's game, his eyes scanning Piccolo's body for his next tell. It was only when Piccolo's chop connected with Cell's forearm, that the bio-android realized the extent of his mistake.

It happened in an instant. Time seemed to stand still between them as Cell quickly activated overdrive, forcing his back muscles to nearly break his own spine as he contorted his body enough to save his head from Piccolo's surprisingly ruthless attack. He had been mere millimeters to spare from his head being cut in two pieces. The momentum of his desperate dodge forced Cell to continue his movement into a full blow cartwheel, out of the way.

When he landed back on his feet, a single drop of purple-blood ran down his cheek, while he gripped his other arm to stem the bleeding from his suddenly severed right hand.

Piccolo grit his teeth in a show of apparent frustration, as he turned back to face Cell once more.

"That was a bit close for comfort." Cell tried to chuckle to hide the surprise from his voice. "Wanting to end the fight before it really even begins? Is that really in the spirit of things?" Cell asked as he prepared to repair his arm with his own regenerative abilities.

"Considering the stakes, I'd say it was warranted." Piccolo replied evenly not apparently in a hurry to press his attack.

Cell wasn't the only one hoping for a brief lull in the action, as Cell quickly realized he couldn't see Piccolo's other hand. Piccolo's leg seemingly was deliberately blocking his line of sight.

That same instant Cell noticed this, his Ki sense alerted him to a moving source of energy.

Cell lunged to the left just as a quickly charged special-beam cannon shot upwards from the ground, aimed perfectly to drill a hole directly up the center of the bio-android. His last second efforts only allowing the attack to cut a hole from hip to shoulder on his right side. Missing his head again by mere millimeters.

Cell's face immediately contorted in pain. He hadn't expected Piccolo of all fighters to come out with such an aggressive opening salvo, no feeling out of his opponent, just going directly for the kill.

While his body was still in shock from dealing with an increasing number of serious wounds, Piccolo was on the attack again, planting his knee deeply into Cell's stomach with the full force of Kaioken x5 boosting his strength, and another Ki-blade chop cutting across Cell's neck.

Cell's eyes opened wide in shock, as his head was separated from his body.

Piccolo allowed a brief smile to grace his normally stoic features as he far exceeded his own expectations.

Without the connection to the Ki of the rest of his body Cell's head was virtually defenseless to the Namekians finishing blow, as he slammed Cell's head into the rocky ground below, bursting it like a watermelon, and unleashing a powerful Ki blast onto the ground, creating a new crater, several feet deep.

Behind Piccolo's back, Cell's body stumbled backwards, the last signals from his brain finally reaching his limbs, before it fell limply to the ground.

(On Planet Torappu)

The wall of energy spread out in all directions, even reaching the edge of space, and eating deep down into the planet's crust. By the time it had stopped spreading, a column of lava had shot upwards, completely hiding Broly from view.

Turles, Raditz, and Gohan each carefully watched the column from the edges of the enormous crater. From their positions Raditz and Turles could see each other, but Gohan was hidden from the other's views.

It was unnatural to think anything could survive the well of lava flowing out of the planet. It was even stranger to think that one could sense the energy of another being hanging in the air without a scouter. But these two ideas were the only explanations for what they felt coming from the center of the column of lava. Somewhere in that inferno was a being that was beginning to seem like death incarnate.

Raditz's entire body was so tense he couldn't move, this had to be the moment Shizen had warned him about. His eyes darted back and forth across the lava as it slowly began to fall back to the surface, looking for any sign of movement. He had to make a decision and make it now while there was still time. If he was going to run with Gohan and leave Turles to this monster, or fight with the last of his bloodline against likely insurmountable odds.

That was when he saw something slowly emerging from inferno, bending the lava around itself was the monstrosity of a Saiyan inside a green shield of pure energy.

If the Saiyan warrior had a look of madness in his eyes before, the look there now was even more intimidating. There was a clarity to his madness, a creature the likes of which hadn't been seen in centuries had been set free, and there wasn't a force in the universe capable of stopping it.

Broly's eyes had never left Turles, even surrounded by the lava, he knew exactly where his prey was. A blood curdling cackle filled the air, as lightning began to fork between the falling magma. Pointing to Turles the monster spoke its first full sentence since landing "You Kakarot, I choose you to be the first victim. The first victim of the death of an entire galaxy." Broly declared.

"Damn it I told you I-" The rest of Turles' words were cut off as Broly's fist found its way to his chest in an instant.

Blood sprayed from Turles mouth, his eyes beginning to fade from that single blow, his ribcage completely shattering. For the first time in over a decade he could unleash the full force of his blows, without his father's constant interference.

Raditz saw the attack land first. He had made his decision, his aura flared to life as he shot towards Gohan with everything he had.

Gohan being the furthest from Turles was just beginning to realize what was happening across from him.

Raditz could see it coming, he had to get to Gohan before his rage let loose again. It didn't matter how strong Gohan was right now, nothing they could do could harm that thing. Right now, the only thing that might slow it down was if it wanted to play with Turles another moment before finishing him.

"GOHAN! GET TO THE SHIP NOW!" Raditz shouted desperately. "GOHAN GO! GO NOW!" He continued to show as the air around Gohan caught fire, his nephew was building up for one final charge.

Across from the pre-teen, one of the last members of his family, the spitting image of his own father hung limply on the larger Saiyans arm, completely helpless as Broly took his skull in his hand and applied the smallest amount of pressure causing Turles' dying body to jerk slightly in one last desperate attempt to free itself from the monster's grasp. To save itself from its inevitable death.

Gohan hit his limit "NOOOO!" And launched forward right at Broly.

Broly's head rolled to the side watching the smallest of his first victims rushing towards him. A smile was starting to spread across Broly's lips, his mind was a kaleidoscope of feelings at the moment, lost somewhere between unrelenting rage and boundless bliss. "Don't interrupt this. Just die now." He said as a massive blast formed in his free hand without even charging and released it.

Gohan's world turned green as the attack was on him before he even had a chance. At the last second just before he was going to close his eyes he felt a powerful shove. Pushing him just beyond the center of the attack.

Gohan's eyes registered seeing Raditz's face for an instant, his maned head turning to face him even as he poured every ounce of his aura outwards trying to even slow the attack down. It looked like he was saying something but there wasn't time to finish it.

As the shockwave ripped through Raditz and crashed into Gohan as well, the duo vanished inside the attack. Allowing Broly's attention to focus on the only thing that mattered at the moment, crushing Kakarot's skull.

Gohan blinked, and then blinked again, his eyes slowly adjusting as if he had been staring at the sun through a telescope lens

In front of him Raditz was looking at him, reaching out desperately with one arm. Saying something, Gohan blinked again, noticing the ringing in his ears for the first time.

More blood spilled from Raditz mouth as he tried to speak again, desperately trying to get Gohan to listen, to listen to his message.

Finally, a third time Gohan heard a hoarse whisper. "Run...damn you…...the ship...Shizen...said you….survive…" Raditz managed to repeat part of the message for the third time, life in his eyes nearly gone before he even finished the sentence.

Gohan just stared as his uncle's seemingly lifeless head hit the ground, his mind finally registering the fact that all that was left of his Uncle was one charred arm, part of his upper torso, and his charred face. Everything else was gone.

As he stared blanking outwards passed his uncles' body, Gohan's eyes watched the spray of blood explode from Broly's hand as Turles' skull finally shattered under the weight of his crushing grip.

He failed...he failed in every way possible...he had failed at every opportunity to save someone he loved. Everyone he had ever cared about was dead. His power started to rise, the same as it always had. He wasn't strong enough...he was never strong enough…he needed more…

Every painful memory in his short life surfaced. All of killing, entire worlds lay dead because of him. They were supposed to make him stronger. Stronger so this didn't happen anymore. But it kept happening. His rising power hit its limit. He couldn't rise any higher, and because of that everything he had cared about was taken from him

More memories poured by, his father's lifeless body. He felt he was getting close to something, a breakthrough maybe.

Hearing of his mother's death. The endless nightmares that followed. How many times had he seen what it must've been like play out in his dreams. Gohan felt a surge within him. Like a wave cresting over a dam.

How many other times had he cursed others to see the same images that had been forced upon him as he purged planets or defended a Tree of Might he had planted. Another wave of power hit him, it was getting closer. Rocks were rising all around him, higher and higher into the sky as if gravity itself was being negated.

How many had made to suffer just like himself, just for the promise of more power. And then in the end his power proved so utterly inadequate. The deaths of billions, sacrificed so he could die here on this barren rock to the same monster who stole the last of his family from him.

Broly was now looking at him again. Someone, somewhere was yelling, screaming at the top of their lungs.

It took a moment before Gohan realized he, himself was the source of the feral screams. Lightning was starting to strike around him now. Another surge, there was power there, deep inside himself, more than he had ever felt before. As soon as he felt it he grabbed onto it, pulled at it with all of his might. He needed it now, more than ever. Every bit of strength his body possessed he needed it now.

Between himself and Broly another geyser of lava had risen up, smaller than before. When it had faded Broly had fully turned to face him a confused look on his face.

There was another surge, he had to kill this monster. He couldn't fail again, he didn't care what the cost would be. This was his last chance, his last chance for revenge. If he didn't kill Broly now everything in his entire life would be in vain. All of his training, all the lives he had taken, every memory of fleeting happiness he had would be gone forever. Everything around him was turning yellow as his vision began to tunnel. He could only see Broly, only the creature he had to kill.

With one final yell a golden aura burst forth all around him and up into the sky.

From the ground Raditz's eyes happened to still be turned the direction Gohan was standing. All around him the arms of billions he had slain across his bloody career grasped onto him, pulling his spirit downwards. Even as he fought with all of his might to stay to make sure Gohan heeded his warning. His eyes already looked like distant windows high above him.

He was about to give up hope when a golden light burst through his eyes lighting up the inside of his mind. With one final push he reached upwards desperate to see, what he was sure was the sight of his nephew dying, confirmation of his failure.

Instead his nephew stood there, hair spiked up towards the sky, coated head-to-toe in golden fire.

Raditz only got a glimpse before the arms had him in their grips again, dragging him down with more urgency now. Desperate to begin their own revenge.

As he sunk down, through out of his body. A stray thought struck him. He had seen such an image before. He began to put the pieces of the puzzle together, why his nephew's outbursts of power, why Shizen was so desperate to keep Gohan alive.

A maniacal grin crossed Raditz's face gave up resisting the arms. Gohan, his half-breed, soft-hearted, low-class nephew was the Saiyan of legend. He had lived long enough to see it with his own eyes, Gohan was the Legendary Super Saiyan.

I hope everyone enjoyed the faster chapter release! I had a blast writing this one, and since I'm still recovering I actually had time to keep cranking it out for the first time in ages! I've been looking forward to this chapter for so long. It's been one of my favorites to play out in my mind over the years so I really hope I managed to do it justice! :)

Just a side note, I noticed we are just below 1000 reviews, it would be really, really awesome if we managed to break that on this chapter since I've been looking forward to it for so long. To be honest when I first started this story I wasn't sure it would ever be a popular enough story to hit 1000 reviews. The fact that the story is barely halfway through and we're already basically there is absolutely amazing to me. Thank you everyone for all the support! I really hope you all enjoy the story every bit as much as I do :)

So I owe everyone an update on power levels, so here is a partial one.

Reviews:

RKF22 - Glad you enjoyed it, and it looks like you were right ;) Thanks for the review!

jj4life015 - Well he tried at least XD. I'm glad you enjoyed it! I hope you did one as well!

super mystic gohan - Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah I figured Vegeta's pride demanded he give it another shot. Goku knows what's at state, and with Vegeta's post revival Zenkai added into things even Goku could realize Vegeta was stronger than him at the moment. Yeah Piccolo's a great sparring partner regardless. Plus he's had years worth of practice since the last time Goku had a chance to fight Piccolo, so I bet he's looking forward to it :)

Fredaguis - Thank you for the review! I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter, I hope you enjoy this one as well!

Luke - I'm glad you noticed said If. I know that was a bit of a tease on my part. I gave it some thought once I came up with the idea to give Ginyu one last chance to pull out all the stops. Doing so would have major changes down the line so I couldn't pull the trigger. I hope you enjoyed how this chapter played out anyway!

DarkFalconZ - Yeah Vegeta gave it his best shot. I'm sure Cepa would have applauded his effort. Ginyu had a shot, but in the end it wasn't meant to be. I hope you enjoyed this chapter anyway! :)

tarrangar - I hope the chapter didn't disappoint to much. I know it was a bit of a tease. But I figured since it was such a desperate battle, I'd better have everyone go all out. I hope you enjoyed how the chapter turned out! :)

Dragonmaster1296 - Glad you enjoyed it! It was, but he had fully mastered ssj1 before the fight, which Cepa had mentioned was the key to unlocking the next level. So there were worse decisions then betting on himself. Yup he did let them see his full power for a moment so it wasn't all in vain. Unfortunately what doesn't kill him just makes him stronger. You'll have to wait and see about Cooler ;) . I hope the whole Ginyu situation didn't disappoint, I know it was a bit of a tease, but I figured if he was ever going to have a shot to take a body again why not give him a shot to gain the ultimate body. I hope you enjoyed this chapter as well :)

serus black antihumannature - Thanks, I hope you enjoyed this chapter as well! Yeah, she'll hopefully have plenty of time to perfect more durable equipment ;)

Huge thank you to everyone once again! I'll hopefully be able to update again soon :)
