Liv discreetly looked over at James, seeing the worry etched so definitively on his face. She placed a hand over his and gave him a reassuringly smile. James nodded and squeezed her hand in return knowing that inwardly she would be pacing in circles.
"He's going to be alright Liv." He said bravely. Liv nodded and kissed his cheek before averting her eyes back on the floor. For everything that she and Cyrus have gone through, she loved him like a father. She knew that he loved her equally as his own and right then and there, that was all that mattered.
"Liv," James said softly coaxing her out of her reverie. Liv looked at James as he nodded towards the door, and her heart skipped a beat as she saw Fitzgerald Thomas III standing there. It took everything in her not to leap to her feet and fling her arms around him. James stood to his feet to greet Fitz while Liv stayed sitting in a somewhat catatonic state not quite believing that he was there. It made her entertain the notion for a moment that the Fitz that she knew was still in there. All of a sudden she felt the air leave her. She shot up and excused herself from the room. Fitz looked longingly after Olivia but turned his gaze back to James.
"How's he doing?"
"He's still in surgery. They haven't come out to tell us anything yet. They've been there for a few hours. Thanks for coming. It would mean a lot to Cyrus."
"I wish he would have told me. There are so many things I want to say to him."
"You'll get your chance." James vowed.
"You should go." He said pointing towards the door. Fitz nodded and placed a comforting pat on James' shoulder before leaving.
"Are you okay?" Fitz asked Olivia finding her on the rooftop of the Hospital. She glanced up and shrugged.
"As okay as I am going to get till I find out that he's come out of the other side of this. I'm glad you're here. He'll kill me but he would be glad to know that he mattered enough to you to be here.
"Cyrus and I may not be in a good place right now, and we may have butted heads but I've never not cared about him."
"I know that. I'm glad you're giving him the opportunity to realise that."
"So London huh?" Liv nodded,
"I never anticipated just how much I would end up loving it, but I really do. I feel like all of us have been able to have a new beginning. It was the right thing to do. Probably something I should have done a long time ago." Fitz's heart involuntarily tightened knowing hearing the wistfulness filled with regret. He knew that after everything, she had doubted them enough to regret them.
"Hey Liv," he began but she stopped him.
"Can we table us? For now? For Cyrus? He's all that matters. Please." There was a pleading in her voice that he couldn't deny.
"Sure Liv."
"Thank you. We should get back. I don't want to leave James for too long."
Fitz followed her back down to the waiting room wordlessly thankful for their unspoken truce. In that moment, it was enough. Cyrus was more important, and their temporary ceasefire was more than he could have hoped for. He prayed it would somewhat be a base for the groundwork he knew he needed to build.
