It had been exactly 7 minutes and 34 seconds since I had made my escape from the castle. It had been 42 minutes and 12 seconds since I found out that I was mated to a vampire .. It had been days since I came back to Forks.. And it took me 30 seconds to realise what a huge mistake that was.. How could life be so unfair?
I stopped running, gasping for much needed oxygen. My hand trembled as I clenched and unclenched my fist trying to calm down. Trying fruitlessly to distract my self from this never awakening nightmare.
A million questions ran through my mind, a mile a minute, I closed my eyes and tried to breath evenly.
Did he notice I was gone yet? Was he looking for me? How long did I have left till he found me?
I glanced down at my hands, stopping my train of thought, as I felt a trickle of water fall down my arm. Before I could locate the source it started to rain heavily and in matter of seconds I was drenched.
I wrapped my arms around myself as if to form some warmth and protection from the cold. I shivered as sloshed my way home. Careful not to fall and injure myself.
But where could I go? What could I do? He could find me anywhere. He's a bloody vampire for crying out loud.
I finally reached my parents hou- I mean my house. I struggled to hold the key still while fumbling with the lock. I stumbled inside and of course tripped over my own feet. I grabbed on to the door to stop myself from falling flat on my face. I held on till I regained my balance and was positive I wouldn't fall.
I slammed the door shut making sure that I slid the lock into place before stumbling upstairs to my room.
Are you stupid Bella? My mind whispered to me. You really think that a lock could stop a vampire? I ignored the voices in my head tried to think.
Obviously I couldn't stay here for long. He would find me easily. Stupid bloodsucker.
And then it came to me. It was so brilliant and so simple, I couldn't believe I hadn't thought of it before.
La Push!
Of course.. The people in La Push have a treaty with the vampires .. No vampire is allowed on their land, no matter the circumstances unless given permission by the chief. I allowed my self to smile. And hope. At the thought of possible freedom from the bloodsuckers.
I quickly grabbed a bag and started hurling anything I could find in it. Making sure that I took the essentials like money and clothes. I was still drenched from the rain but I didn't have enough time to change.
I ran downstairs and grabbed some sandwiches that I had made earlier that day. I stuffed them in my bag not caring of they got squished. I flung my bag over my shoulder and headed towards the door.
I again fumbled with the lock, before moving outside and towards my truck. I glanced back at the house that used to be my home, the one place I used to feel safe and loved. Now it was only a reminder of the past that haunted me. I turned away not wanting to break down, not wanting to waste anymore time. Time was essential in me getting away and time was definitely not on my side.
I flung the truck door open and quickly scrambled inside. I started the engine and pressed down on the gas. I had only been driving for two minutes and I knew it took at least 15 to get to La Push in my truck.
For the first time in my life I hated the fact that my truck was slow. It groaned in protest as I pressed down even more on the gas.
'Please, come on, faster.' I muttered. Hoping beyond hope that I had enough time to get to La Push.
I glanced behind me as I heard a noise, my hands trembling on the wheel. I turned back around, seeing nothing unusual.
I slammed my foot on the brakes and gasped at what I saw.
He was here. He had found me.
