I POSTED THIS CHAPTER LAST NIGHT BUT IT MESSED UP SO HOPE FULLY IT COMES OUT RIGHT

Charlie Swan glanced at his wife before sighing irritably and walking out. Another argument.

'You're a coward Charlie Swan!' She shouted after him as he slammed the door shut.

He just wanted to protect them. Protect them from the dangers that were lurking. He knew what would happen to his family if they found out and he just couldn't risk it.

Three weeks ago Charlie and Renee Swan found out that they're were expecting a child. That was when the arguments had started. Both of them were absolutely thrilled about having a baby, that was not the problem.

The first born of every couple was expected to be given to the king as tribute, to show their loyalty to him and him alone. This was mandatary and anyone who disobeyed was sentenced to death. The Swans lived in Italy and therefore were forced to abide by King Aro's laws. Ever since the vampires revealed themselves to humans things have been horrific for them. This was because some vampires believe themselves to be superior to humans leading to very cruel acts of violence. The Volturi were among those vampires who despised humans.

Charlie wanted to leave Italy to protect his wife and child. However, Renee couldn't bare to leave her home. She fully believed that if they pleaded with King Aro there child would be spared. However Charlie knew better. It would never work and it would most definitely lead to their deaths. He would not allow this.

So what could he do? He had to convince Renee to flee Italy, before they found out she was pregnant.
The people in Italy were monitored closely and it would only be a matter of time before they discovered the pregnancy. It would kill him if he lost his child and he knew it would destroy his wife too.

It would be hard to leave Italy and not be discovered, another of King Aro's laws is that no-one is allowed to leave Italy. Leaving the country is a sign of disobedience and would lead to immediate death if caught. Few have made it out alive and even fewer have stayed alive after leaving. Aro is not a forgiving vampire and he hunts down his enemies, tortures them first and then kills them in the most painful way imaginable.

The best chance of survival was to go to another vampire kingdom where Aro and his men were not welcomed. His first thoughts were of the Denali kingdom but dismissed them quicky they had ties to the Volturi and some of them were even on friendly terms. They would be immediately caught.

What about The Cullens? They despised Aro and his barbaric rules. He had heard that they were unlike other vampires, they treated humans with respect and did not drink their blood, instead they chose to drink animal blood. It would be a perfect place to run and hide.

Know all he had to do was convince his wife that this was the only option and hope that they would not get caught.

BACK TO THE PRESENT -

A bright light penetrated the room and she had to close her eyes so that the light did not blind her.. She winced when she saw the dried blood on her clothes.
Taking deep breaths she squinted upwards at the vampire standing near the door...

'Ahh dearest Isabella we have much to discuss'

Flashback -

I sat frozen in my seat knowing there was nothing I could do to escape.

I recognised them as King Aro's men. The Volturi crest was visible on their arms. Even without the crest I would be able to recognise them. How could I not? My family had been running from them for years.

My breaths were coming out in gasps as they started to move closer. They were the predators and I was the prey.

Suddenly one of them yanked the door open, grabbed my hair and pulled. I screamed as I felt hair being ripped from my head. I fell to the ground, and heard a sickening crack as my head connected with the pavement. I closed my eyes as the smell of blood invaded me. My blood.

I gently touched my scalp and winced as the pain radiated throughout me.

My vision started to become blurry as the smell of blood grew stronger. Their eyes trained on me as I started to lose consciousness. Red eyes.

My last thoughts were of Edward, if only I had stayed, as I succumbed to the darkness.
