Chapter 18: It's a...
Adam's leg bounced up and down as he waited for his shift to be over. He had his ultrasound today, and he was eager to find out if he was having a boy or a girl. Cooper was gonna pick him up form work and they would head right over to the hospital.
"Someone's antsy."
Adam looked over his shoulder at Sam who was smiling at him. Sam knew what today meant. He was just a curious as everyone else was.
"I just wish this day would go by faster," Adam said looking around the empty diner.
"Relax, the more you think about it, the longer it will take. Just try not to focus on it," Sam said with a smile.
"How can I not? It's all I've been thinking about all week," Adam replied.
"Well then, it seems you are boned," Sam chuckled.
Adam rolled his eyes and turned back to the silverware he was supposed to be rolling. Sam joined him. They sat in silence working together.
"So," Sam said after awhile. Adam glanced over at his friend.
"Yes," Adam said signaling him to continue.
"What are you hoping for?"
"Honestly I kind of want a girl," Adam admitted.
Adam didn't like saying it out loud too often, but he did want a girl. He didn't want to get his hopes up though. He would love his baby no matter what.
"Really? Another one?" Sam asked.
"Yeah, but Cooper thinks it's a boy," Adam replied.
"Well what do you say when you refer to the baby?" Sam asked.
"Coop says he and I say it too, but that doesn't mean anything," Adam said quickly. Sam laughed and shook his head.
The two continued to banter back and forth about the baby. Sam was trying to convince Adam that he was most lily gonna have a boy, while Adam was in denial. They kept the argument up even while they worked and served customers. They kept it to themselves and were quiet about it, but Sam was persistent. They weren't paying much attention to time. Soon Cooper arrived and Adam was shocked.
"Coop, is it that time already?" Adam asked shocked.
"Yep, go clock out dork, I can handle your table," Sam chuckled. "I'm sure Fiona is just running a little late," he added as said coworker ran in apologizing for being late.
"Right, thanks Sam," Adam said. He headed back into the kitchen and clocked out. He headed back out in time to see Cooper and Sam introduce themselves to each other.
"I hate to cut this short, but Coop we have somewhere to be," Adam said quickly.
"Right, it was nice meeting you Sam," Cooper said quickly.
"Likewise," Sam replied. Adam quickly ushered Cooper from the diner saying his good byes to Sam.
"You ready to find out what we're having?" Cooper asked.
"More than ready Coop, I've been anxious all day," Adam said. Cooper chuckled and grabbed Adam's hand. He stopped the pregnant brunette.
"Relax, no matter what happens we will love this baby," Cooper said.
"I know that," Adam said with a smile. He led Cooper to his car. They got in and Adam was more anxious than ever.
"So have you been thinking of any names?" Cooper asked as he started driving.
"I don't know Coop, we've got time," Adam said.
-We Are-
Jake smiled as he walked into his apartment. He had been in a great mood lately. It probably had something to do with all the attention Damien seemed to be showing him over the last week. He was being more attentive than usual. Jake wasn't sure why Damien was acting this way, but he liked it. It was nice to finally get some attention from his husband after being ignored and pushed aside.
"Someone looks happy," Mason said scaring Jake a bit. Jake looked over to the other man.
"Yeah, just had a good day is all," Jake said.
"Uh huh, sure," Mason said knowingly.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Jake asked.
"You do realize that the walls in this apartment are like paper thin," Mason said slowly. Jake's eyes went wide for a second before he blushed.
"Don't worry, it won't be a problem for much longer," Mason chuckled, "there is an apartment not far from here," he added.
"Finally done mooching of me and Damien?" Jake teased. It may have started that way, but along the way Mason had become a real friend to Jake.
"Seems like it," Mason replied.
"It's gonna be odd not having someone sleeping on our couch," Jake joked.
"Haha," Mason replied stalely.
"Ok, seriously though, is this move gonna include Adam or have you guys decided against being roomies?" Jake asked slowly.
"I don't know, every time I bring it up Adam changes the subject," Mason replied with a shrug.
"He always does this. Keep talking to him, he just needs a gentle shove in the right direction," Jake replied. Mason nodded his head.
"So what's on the menu tonight?" Mason asked changing the subject.
"Whatever Adam wants, we are kind of celebrating the baby's good health," Jake said.
"Sounds fun, if I know him and his cravings by now it's gonna be pizza and pickles," Mason said making a face. Jake just laughed and nodded his head in agreement.
-We Are-
Kyle quickly ran into the house behind Leora. They were done with school for the day and Kyle wanted to get on the phone and talk to Jared. It was becoming a habit of theirs to call each other as soon as they were available.
"Hold it you two," James called out as they both dashed for the stairs. The pair froze and looked to James.
"What's up pops, we gots lots of homework to do," Leora said quickly.
"It can wait, Adam is here and he's got some news to share," James said motioning for his kids to come to the living room. Kyle and Leora followed him back into the living room. Adam was sitting on the couch with a picture in his hands.
"Oh, the baby!" Leora said quickly as she moved to sit beside her older brother.
"Yes tell us, are we getting another niece or a nephew this time?" Kyle asked.
"It's a boy," Adam said holding out the ultrasound picture to the twins. Leora snatched the picture and awed at it.
"Have you talked to dad?" Kyle asked.
"Pops and I just called him and shared the news," Adam said nodding his head.
"This is gonna be so awesome," Kyle said looking down at the ultrasound picture. He was kind of excited to be an uncle again. He handed it back to Adam.
"So any names yet?" Leora asked curiously.
"A few, nothing permanent yet," Adam said. "Cooper likes the name Brady, but I'm not sure I like it too much," he admitted.
"Ew no," Leora said quickly. "What about Ashton," she suggested. Adam thought it over and shrugged.
"Maybe, I do like it better than Brady," Adam said.
"Ashton? No, I think Kyle is the perfect name," Kyle said nudging Adam lightly. Adam laughed and nodded his head.
"As much as I'd love to stay and chat, I've got to go pick up Miri," Adam said moving to stand up.
"You'll have to bring her over one of these days. I miss her," Kyle said jumping up. Adam agreed and the twins left the living room.
Kyle ran up to his bedroom. He tossed his backpack aside and ran over to his computer. He quickly set Jared a video chat request. Jared had texted him earlier asking him to message him as soon as he could.
"About time," Jared said with a smile.
"Sorry, I got held up, Adam was here and he's having a boy," Kyle said quickly.
"We heard, your dad is so excited," Jared chuckled.
"Oh hey Kyle!" Noah said appearing behind Jared and waving to the blonde. Kyle chuckled and greeted him. "So you're getting a nephew, are you excited?" He asked.
"Kind of, yeah," Kyle said nodding his head.
"Noah leave them alone, sorry Kyle, someone let him out of his cage and he just wanders," Roldy said as he appeared on the screen pulling Noah away.
"Alone now?" Kyle asked.
"Yeah, Roldy is like a mind reader," Jared said with a smile. "So there's something I need to talk to you about," he said quickly.
"Ok what's up?" Kyle asked curiously.
"Well, you know how we went to that party for Halloween?" Jared asked.
"How could I forget?" Kyle asked with a grin.
"Well, there's a problem," Jared said as Kyle's cell phone started ringing. He held a hand up to Jared as he pulled his cell phone out. He saw Kendall was calling him.
"Why is my dad calling me?" Kyle asked quickly.
"He most likely saw the same story I saw," Jared said, "answer it," he added.
"Hey dad what's up, I just got home and I have no idea what you're mad about," Kyle said quickly.
"Someone outed us Kyle," Jared said.
"I'm not mad Kyle, I'm worried, I saw a rumor going around about you and Jared. People seem to be catching on," Kendall said quickly.
"What?" Kyle asked nearly dropping his phone. This isn't what he wanted yet. He wanted Jared to be back in LA before they came out as dating. He didn't want this happening with Jared on the other side of the country. "How did this happen Jer, we were so careful." He said.
"What?" Kendall asked confused.
"Sorry dad, I'm chatting with Jared too," Kyle replied.
"I think someone from the Palm Woods said something," Jared said quickly.
"Dad what do we do?" Kyle asked.
"Give me a minute," Kendall said.
"Dad no, I don't know what to do here. I can't do this. Everyone at school is gonna make a big deal out of this. I don't know what I'm gonna do," Kyle said panicking.
"Just go get you father, I am gonna hang up and I will be with Jared when you get back," Kendall said.
"Ok, Jer I'll be right back," Kyle said. Kyle left his room hollering for Names in his panic. James came running up the stairs. He looked worried.
"Kyle what's wrong?" James asked.
"Dad wants to talk to you. Someone told people about me and Jared," Kyle said quickly pointing to his bedroom. James walked into the room and saw Kendall and Jared on the computer. Kyle followed him as well.
"What's going on," James asked.
"There are rumors about Kyle and Jared circulating," Kendall explained the situation to James. Kyle was sitting back looking at his phone. He groaned when he saw Facebook. Everybody wanted to know if the rumors were true.
"It's all over Facebook? People are already asking me if its true? When did his happen?" Kyle asked looking to Jared and Kendall.
"About an hour ago I saw the post on my Twitter feed and I had to check it out," Jared said, "I know this isn't what you wanted to happen," he started.
Kyle too a deep breath and sighed. "Ok, let's not pretend we didn't expect this to happen. This was going to happen sooner or later. I mean I kind of signed up for this when we started dating Jer," he said.
"What's the plan?" James asked looking to Kendall.
"Well if we deny this and then confirm later we will be painted as liars, but if we confirm this now people are going to attack you and I for letting our sixteen year old son date Jared who is twenty," Kendall said quickly.
"I only just turned twenty, if it helps," Jared said slowly.
"Not helping," Kyle said fighting back laugh.
"Well for now it's just a rumor," Kendall said slowly.
"That's all it is," Kyle said quickly. "I say we just ignore it and do not address it. We wait until you guys are back home and then we can address it," he said.
"I don't think that will work Kyle," Kendall said shaking his head.
"Yes it will, it's like when Lilly and I first started dating. At school people were suspicious, but we never said anything. It wasn't until a couple months later that everyone found out the rumors were true," Ue explained ignoring the look Jared made when he brought up his past with Lilly.
"That could work, we just don't talk about it," James said looking to Kendall.
"It will work, just ignore the rumors. Ignore them all and just keep doing what you've been doing. Put the focus on the band and on your guy's music," Kyle said looking to Jared.
"Sounds like a plan, but in the mean time we need to think of what we're going to say, especially you and James," Jared said looking to Kendall.
"We are working on it," Kendall said.
"Yeah, we may have been happy about this initially, but we are now. We can see that he makes you happy Kyle," James said placing a hand on his son's shoulder.
"Thanks pops, dad," Kyle said looking to James and then to the computer screen.
"Oh Kyle, I need a quick favor," Jared said quickly. "Do you remember Artie? The friend I introduced you to on halloween?" He asked.
"Yeah, what about him?" Kyle asked.
"Artie's different and I think someone at the Palm Woods might've gotten him to talk about us. He won't respond to any of our phone calls. I'm worried about him," Jared said.
"You want me to check up on him?" Kyle asked.
"If you can, he stays in apartment 6B, when his mom is out of town," Jared said.
"What if he's not at the Palm Woods?" Kyle asked.
"The. He might be at home, but that's not likely, his mom isn't a big fan of his-uh lifestyle," Jared said slowly.
"What do you mean?" James asked confused.
"That's all I can say, it's a sensitive subject, his name is Artie Griffin and Mercedes Griffin is his mom," Jared said.
"I thought Mercedes had a daughter," Kendall said before everything seemed to click.
"I knew it, something seemed a bit off with him, not in a bad way," Kyle said quickly.
"I can't deny or confirm anything. Don't even tell him I did this," Jared said.
"I won't," Kyle promised.
"Ok we gotta go, Jared will call you later," Kendall said quickly.
"Yeah, gotta go and be a rockstar and all," Jared said winking at Kyle.
The screen went blank and Kyle turned to James. "Did you guys mean it?"
"Of course we did, we've been talking Kyle and we can see you are happy. That's all that really matters to us," James said smiling at his younger son. "We will stand beside you through all of this," he said.
"Thanks pops, that's all I really wanted from you guys. I don't know if Jared is the one for me, but right now he makes me happy," Kyle said.
"No problem kid," James chuckled. "I'm gonna go start supper, try not to annoy Leora with your music too much," he said turning leaving.
"Can't make any promises," Kyle called after him.
-We Are-
Adam sighed contently. He was sitting in Cooper's apartment with Cooper. Miri was asleep already and they were just taking a moment to relax. The pair were relaxing on the couch with Cooper holding Adam, his hands coming to rest on Adam's stomach. They were both happy that their baby was healthy.
"My mom doesn't want to admit it, but she's a little disappointed she's not getting another granddaughter," Cooper said casually.
"Really? My dads were super excited and so was Kyle," Adam chuckled.
"So have you been thinking of names yet?" Cooper asked again.
"Actually yes, I've been thinking and I would like to name him after my dads," Adam said sitting up. He turned to look at Cooper. He wanted to know what he thought of that idea.
"Which order? I can see them both arguing to have their name be first," Cooper chuckled.
"Your ok with it?" Adam asked shocked.
"Yeah, you're dads are practically my dads. They took me in when Carter kicked me out," Cooper replied.
"True, and I'm not sure which order yet. We will have to wait and see if our boy is a Kendall or a James," Adam said.
"Sounds like a plan," Cooper said leaning over and pecking Adam on the lips. He lingered a moment before sitting back.
Adam bit his lip. He wasn't entirely sure what they had at the moment. It was all so complicated, and labels messed it all up for them last time. Adam wasn't sure he wanted to put a label on this right now.
"What's on your mind?" Cooper asked.
"Nothing, I am just happy for the first time in a long time," Adam replied.
"Me too," Cooper said.
-We Are-
Kyle walked up to apartment 6B. He was a bit nervous being at the Palm Woods at the moment. He wasn't sure who had outed him and Jared. He wanted to know, he hoped Artie could help him. Kyle knocked on the door. He waited a moment before it opened to reveal Artie. He seemed a bit shocked to see Kyle.
"Hey Artie," Kyle said.
"The guys sent you didn't they?" Artie asked.
"Yeah," Kyle said.
"Come in," Artie said stepping aside for the blonde. Kyle walked into the apartment. Artie walked over to the counter and sat on a stool. Kyle joined him.
"Jared wouldn't say much, but he seemed worried about you," Kyle said slowly.
"They are just worried that Taylor did something to me and I started..." Artie said.
"Cutting?" Kyle guessed. "Who's Taylor?"
"Yes and someone who doesn't like me," Artie said slowly. "What did the guys tell you about me?" He asked.
"Not much, they just seemed worried and wanted to make sure you were ok. All they said was you were Mercedes Griffin's son," Kyle said.
"Really?" Artie asked almost shocked.
"They didn't want to ruin your trust, but I kind of figured it out on my own. See I used to know Mercedes' daughter, Lexi," Kyle said slowly.
"You're looking at her," Artie said holding his arms open.
"There's nothing wrong with being transgender," Kyle said, "I take it that why Taylor picks on you?" He said.
"Yeah Taylor is a Neanderthal," Artie said shaking his head.
"I'll bet, but if you ever need someone to talk to, I'm here," Kyle said smiling. "Let me see your phone," he said quickly. Artie handed his phone over and Kyle put his number in he phone. Then quickly sent a message to his phone and handed it back to Artie. "There, we're friends," he said.
"Thanks Kyle," Artie said.
"Anything for an old friend," Kyle said with a wink. Artie laughed and nodded his head. "So what's this I hear about you not being on good terms with your mom?"
"She didn't want a son, she's wants a daughter. I left home and live here now. Grandpa Arthur accepts me and pays rent for me," Artie said.
"Is that why you changed your name to Artie?" Kyle asked.
"Yeah, it was his idea," Artie said with a smile.
"Look, I'm sure your mom will come around. I mean my dads weren't too thrilled about me and Jer, but they accept us now. They see how happy I am and that is all that matters," Kyle said.
"Thanks Kyle, I'll keep that in mind," Artie said.
-We Are-
Miles gasped as he felt a hand come into contact with his crotch. He pulled back from the kiss he had been in the middle of and looked down at Rion. They had been making out, but Rion seemed to be having other ideas. Miles felt his face heat up as she rubbed against him and Miles realized just how turned on he was.
"Ri," Miles said slightly breathlessly.
"Oh come on Miles my parents will be out for hours," Rion said bringing her hands back to his neck and trying to pull him down into a kiss.
"I know that, but..." Miles said pulling away from Rion. He sat back and Rion sat up a confused look on her face.
"Is something wrong?" Rion asked.
"No-yes-I mean maybe," Miles stumbled over his words. His face turning red. Rion chuckled slightly and looked questioningly at him. "I've never done anything like this before," he admitted.
"Oh," Rion said sighing relieved. She pulled Miles closer. "Let me be your guide then," she said.
"Ri, I'm not-" Miles started. Rion silenced him with a kiss.
"I'm not saying eye go all the way, but there are a few things we can do," Rion said grabbing Miles's hand and placing it on her breast.
Miles's eyes went wide. He had never really copped a feel before. He respected Rion and only wanted to do things on her terms when they were both ready. With her cancer Miles was always being cautious. Rion grinned and pulled Miles close for a kiss. She reached behind herself and unhooked her bra. She slipped it off and all that was left was her tank top. It could be easily pushed aside. Miles looked up at Rion. She smiled and nodded her head.
Miles reached up as a door slammed shut. The pair froze for a second. Miles jumped up in shock. Rion quickly grabbed her discarded t-shirt. They frantically tried to look like that hadn't been doing what they had just been doing.
"I thought you said they would be gone for hours," Miles said quickly. There was a knock at the door and a voice neither of them expected spoke.
"Rion are you home?"
"Fran!" Rion shouted. She to the door and opened it a crack. "What are you doing here? Don't you have an college dorm across town to be in?" She asked.
"Oh my god I need to talk to you," Fran said pushing her sister aside. She walked into the room and froze when she saw Miles. "Oh I'm interrupting," she said quickly.
"Just a little," Miles said grabbing a pillow and trying to discreetly place it in his lap.
"Fran can't this wait?" Rion asked her cheeks red with embarrassment.
"It's ok, I'll go," Miles said jumping up. He wanted to get out of here was quickly as he could. "I'll see you in school Ri," he said. He left after giving Rion a quick peck on the cheek.
Miles made his way outside and to Lilly's car. He got in and sat there for a moment. He wasn't sure how far things would've gone of Fran hasn't interrupted. Miles sighed and shook his head. He would never know now. He started the car and headed home.
-We Are-
Noah smiled as he laid back against Roldy. They were laying on the couch on their tour bus with a blanket draped over them. They had finished another show and were on the road again. They were heading from Boston to Philadelphia. Tour was hectic, but with Roldy by his side it was bearable. Roldy just made everything better.
Noah couldn't help but think about his and Roldy's relationship. It had started off a bit rocky, but it was amazing. They weren't perfect, they fought but they made up relatively quickly. Roldy did his best to make Noah happy. Noah really appreciated that, especially lately after everything with Jace had been brought up.
"Whatcha thinking about love?" Roldy asked quietly.
"About you," Noah replied honestly. Roldy squeezed the smaller boy tighter. Noah smiled and relaxed. "I'm just happy that we worked things out. I was so scared I was loosing you there for awhile," he said softly.
"You never lost me No, I was just jealous that they were so open about their relationship. I felt like what we had wasn't important to you," Roldy said softly.
"I know, we were just both scared," Noah said looking up at Roldy. "Let's never be dumb like that again," he said.
"Never," Roldy said. Noah smiled and leaned up. He pressed a kiss to Roldy's cheek. Roldy smiled at that.
"So I've been thinking, we need a couple name, I mean what are our fans gonna call us when we tell them about us," Noah said quickly, "lots of couples have cool names like Bradgelina, Kames, or Cargan. What about us?"
Roldy quickly silenced his eager lover with a kiss. Noah melted into the kiss and calmed down. He looked up at Roldy sheepishly and apologized.
"It's ok No, what do you think we should be called?" Roldy asked.
"I think you should be called annoying," Jared said emerging from his bunk and glaring at the pair. "Some of us are trying to sleep," he added.
"Sorry Jared, I was just thinking that Ro and I coming out as dating might take some heat off you for a bit," Noah said smiling apologetically at the bleached blonde.
"Whatever, it's like 1:00 in the morning and I am trying to sleep. Keep it down," Jared said turning around and heading back to his bunk.
"As you were saying," Roldy said looking to Noah.
"Well there is Roah, or Noldy," Noah said quickly trying to keep his voice down.
"I'd go with Roah, Noldy sounds a bit weird to me," Jared yelled from his bunk.
"I agree with Munroe," Matt called out.
The pair on the couch chuckled and thanked their friends for their input. They snuggled a bit closer and shared sweet nothings in each others ears, quiet enough so Jared and Matt wouldn't hear them.
So there you go a quick little chapter from me. It's a boy! So is it a baby Kendall or a baby James? Rumors are flying about Kyle and Jared, will their plan work? Kames supports Jyle! Will Miles and Rion take the next step of their relationship? Roah? Noldy? What do you guys think? Aren't they just adorable? Artie is transgendered? Who saw that coming? I kind of hinted at it earlier.
