Chapter 33: More Insanity
Kendall left his office and saw Penelope talking to Kelly. Today was the first time in over a week Kendall and seen the young blonde. She had been busy and wasn't taking his phone calls. Once Kelly left Kendall approached her.
"Pen we need to talk," Kendall said getting her attention.
"It's ok if you don't know her, it was a long shot anyways," Penelope said waving a hand dismissively.
"That's just it I do know her," Kendall said quickly, "very well in fact."
"What do you mean?" Penelope asked confused.
"My office," Kendall suggested. He led the young blonde back to his office. He offered her a seat across from his desk.
"Who is she? Why wait to tell me?" Penelope questioned him. Her glare was accusing.
"Her name is Jo Taylor and I wanted some answers myself before I told you," Kendall answered her questions.
"You wanted answers? Why would you-" Penelope froze mid-sentence. Her eyes widened as she looked at Kendall.
"Jo was the first person I ever truly loved," Kendall said looking down at his desk. "She was my everything and then she left. She had a movie role that could've sky rocketed her career had it worked out. She was gone two years and during that time she gave birth to a baby girl, that I had no idea about," he explained.
"Wait, are you trying to tell me that you're my biological father?" Penelope asked trying to make sense of things.
"I am just as shocked as you are," Kendall replied.
"Talk about coincidences," Penelope said falling back in her chair. She was a bit overwhelmed.
"No I don't want to rush anything, but I do have five other kids that would be your half siblings, plus Jo has a son," Kendall said.
"This is a lot to take in," Penelope said.
"I know, I'll let you process this and when you're ready we can maybe tell others. Like my family and maybe Jo," Kendall said grabbing a pen and paper. He wrote down Jo's contact information. He handed it to her. "I told her to wait and let you sort things out. The next move is up to you Pen," he said.
"Thanks," Penelope said nodding her head. She stood and turned to leave. "You had no idea you had another daughter out there?" She asked.
"No, Jo and I dated when we were sixteen and then she left to shoot a movie. She found out she was pregnant after she left. She wasn't ready to be a mom, she never told me," Kendall said.
"Ok then," Penelope said nodding her head again. She walked around the desk. She quickly gave Kendall a hug. "Thank you," she said.
"For what?" Kendall asked.
"For telling me the truth, most people in your position would probably lie," Penelope said.
"It's the right thing to do," Kendall replied.
"Well thank you," Penelope said.
"Oh and if you want me to wait, I won't tell the others," Kendall said quickly.
"Others?" Penelope asked confused.
"My kids," Kendall replied.
"Oh right, uh let me think this over. I just want to be sure I'm ready to fully open this door," Penelope said slowly. "Once word gets out to the press they will have a field day with this no doubt," she said.
"You don't have to do anything you don't want Pen," Kendall replied.
-We Are
Kyle sighed as he looked up at the Palm Woods. He wanted to talk to Jared, but he was worried. What if Jared had moved on already. What if he really didn't care about Kyle? Kyle at least wanted to apologize. He missed Jared.
"Are we gonna sit here all day?" Lilly asked scaring Kyle. He had almost forgotten She was with him. He had been so quiet. She was the one who had talked him into doing this after all.
"I can't do this," Kyle said looking back to the building.
"Oh no, we are already here," Lilly said shaking her head a well. "I did not come all this way or you to chicken out," she said snatching the keys. Kyle looked over at Lilly shocked.
"What if they're here?" Kyle asked.
"Who that British boy band," Lilly asked confused.
Kyle had heard that Vivid Insanity was in LA. They were kicking off a U.S. tour next week. Kendall had mentioned, to James, that the guys were opening for them. Kyle wanted to get to Jared before Gavin did. It was no secret that they had hit it off the last time Vivid Insanity was stateside.
"Yes them, what if I'm too late," Kyle asked.
"Then it's his loss," Lilly said, "you can at least apologize for being an idiot," he added.
"Fine," Kyle sighed. Kyle took a deep breath and gathered the nerve to get out of his car. Lilly followed suit.
The two quickly headed inside. They walked through the lobby together. Lilly stopped and smacked Kyle's arm. She pointed out to the pool. Kyle followed her gaze and saw Jared. He was sitting the guys and the four members of Vivid Insanity. They all had smoothies, and were talking and laughing. Kyle stopped dead as he watched Jared knock a smoothie onto Gavin by accident. He watched as Jared blushed and quickly tried to clean his mess.
"Ah yes, the old boy toy meets the new boy toy."
Kyle turned and saw Taylor Bryant standing behind him. He had run into him a few times here and there. He didn't like Taylor too much cause he was always picking on Artie for being trans.
"What are you talking about?" Kyle asked.
"Don't listen to Kyle," Lilly said.
"He's moved on, Gavin has been here everyday this week. Him and Jared really seem to be hitting it off," Taylor replied with a evil smirk ignoring Lilly.
"Your wrong," Kyle said shaking his head. He looked back out to the pool area. He moved forward as if to go out there, but something stopped him. What if Taylor was right? Had Jared moved on already? If Kyle was being honest he had already slept with someone else, why couldn't Jared?
"If I'm wrong, go ask him," Taylor said moving next to Kyle. "You see he doesn't have time to mess around with kids, he's needs a real man."
"Screw you," Kyle said shoving Taylor.
"Watch it Knight, I don't are who your dads are," Taylor spat.
"I'm so scared," Kyle said.
"Kyle stop," Lilly said.
"I'd listen to the little girl if I were you," Taylor said.
"Screw off Taylor, and drop the tough act we all know your just trying to compensate for something," Kyle said holding a pinkie up. "A small pinkie sized something," he added.
Kyle ducked as Taylor threw the first punch. After that it was open season. Kyle threw the next punch. He wasn't going to let this jerk get the better of him. Taylor stalked up to Kyle angrily. The next punch came from Lilly. Taylor went down. Kyle looked over to Lilly impressed. She smiled at him.
"Who are you calling a little girl?" Lilly asked looking down at Taylor with disgust.
"Smooth Lil," Kyle chuckled shaking his head at her.
Others had stared gathered to see what was going on and cheered the tow for finally putting Taylor in his place. Taylor managed to get to his feet again. He did not look happy.
"Hey, Bryant."
Kyle turned and saw Jared and the guys had come over. Gavin was standing right behind him. Kyle felt a small surge of jealousy run though him at the sight of them together.
"What do you want Munroe," Taylor asked.
"Just to do this," Jared said walking up to him. Without warning he sucker punched Taylor. Taylor stumbled backwards. He glared at the two. Kyle chuckled and smirked at that. "I don't care what he said or what he did, leave him alone."
Taylor lunged forward and soon the three were fighting. Punches were wing thrown left and right. Lilly was trying to stop Kyle. Everyone had gathered around trying to see what was good on.
Suddenly two pairs of hands grabbed Kyle and pulled him from the fight. He looked up at Noah and Lilly confused.
"Let me go," Kyle demanded. He saw Gavin and Roldy trying to pull Jared away from the fight as well. They were having more trouble as Jared was struggling quite a bit.
"What's going on here?"
Kyle looked up and saw a police officer ha arrived. He stopped struggling against the other two.
"Dad!" Taylor said jumping up. He quickly went into a sob story about being ganged up on by Kyle, Lilly, and Jared.
"Fuck me," Kyle groaned. Noah nudged him not liking that word at all. "My dad is gonna kill me," he sighed.
"Oh I am so dead," Lilly said quietly as she let go of Kyle.
-We Are-
Jake groaned as he fell back against the bathroom wall. He hated morning sickness. That was one thing Jake didn't understand. Why was it called morning sickness? It happened all the time through out the day.
A soft knock on the door got his attention. Jake gave a weak moan and the door opened. Damien walked into the room. He looked down at Jake.
"Are you ok?" Damien asked as he helped Jake up to his feet.
"I hate morning sickness," Jake whined. Damien gave him a sympathetic smile. "Why is it even called morning sickness. I get it all the time?"
"I don't know Jake," Damien said. He led Jake from the bathroom and to the kitchen. He got him a glass of water.
"Thanks," Jake said smiling softly.
"I'm here for ya babe," Damien replied with a smile.
"I think I am gonna go lay down for a bit," Jake yawned. He suddenly felt tired. He wanted nothing more than to go to sleep. Maybe he would feel better after a nap.
-We Are-
Kendall, James, and Carlos all walked through the police station together. None of them were happy about being here. Kendall had been at work when he received a phone call that Kyle, Jared, and Lilly had been taken in by the police from a frantic Roldy. The police called shortly after that. Kendall called then James. They arrived at the same time Carlos did. He was really pissed at having to leave set to pick up Lilly.
The three had talked to the officer in charge. He assured the three that no charges were being brought against Kyle, Lilly, or Jared. Several of the kids from the Palm Woods came to their defense that Taylor started the fight and the security cameras caught the whole thing. The kids had been given a warning and were free to go.
The three adults approached the bench where they were sitting. Kyle was sitting between Lilly and Jared. None of them were talking. They all had their heads down.
"Come on, let's not make them wait any longer," James said, "be calm," he added.
"I am clam," Kendall replied.
"Not you," James said glancing over at the Latino beside him.
The three approached the kids. Kendall cleared his throat. The three jumped and looked up at the adults.
"Papi!" Lilly spoke first.
"Dad, pops," Kyle said jumping up. "It wasn't my fault. Taylor Bryant started it all. He's an egotistical jerk and he's always picking on who he deems lesser than him!" He said quickly.
Kendall held a hand up silencing him. Carlos was already talking to Lilly in rapid fire Spanish. The two started to argue.
"Enough not here," Kendall said looking around as James silenced Carlos and Lilly. They didn't want to make a big scene.
"You are just lucky your father is in the middle of a surgery and can't be here right now," Carlos told his daughter. She hung her head. "Let's go," he said. The two left.
"So uh, I'm grounded aren't I?" Kyle asked.
"Come on you two let's go," Kendall said calmly. He was doing his best not to yell at his son.
Jared and Kyle stood up and followed Kendall and James through the squad room. Once they were in the hallway they saw Carlos coming back to them with Lilly right behind him.
"It's a mad house out there," Carlos said simply.
"You expected this to go unnoticed? I'm sure word of the fight has already reached social media," Kendall said looking to Jared.
"Don't look at me, I was trying to stop Taylor from doing anything more to them, but I must say Lilly you have a killer right hook," Jared said looking to the other bleached blonde. She smiled.
"Yeah, she knocked Taylor down with one hit, well after I hit him," Kyle said looking to Lilly. She was looking at the floor trying not to smile.
"You're still in trouble," Carlos said.
"You too," Kendall said looking to Kyle.
"It was worth it," Kyle said.
"Alright let's go," James said ushering the others down the hallway. "Not a word once we get out the door. Let us handle this."
"Lead the way," Kyle replied gesturing for James to go.
-We Are-
Roldy, Noah, and Matt were sitting in 2J waiting for news on Jared. Gavin, Callum, Finlay, Crispin were waiting with them as well.
"Do you think they're arresting him?" Crispin asked.
"I hope not," Roldy said shaking his head. He couldn't believe Jared was stupid enough to get caught up in a fight with Taylor. He knew Taylor's dad was a cop.
"Nah, I don't think officer Bryant bought Taylor's sob story," Matt replied.
"Yeah, he wasn't very convincing," Gavin agreed.
The door opened and Jared walked into the room. He looked up at the guys shocked. He hadn't expected to see them here.
"Are you insane?" Roldy asked in greeting.
"I like to think I've got a little bit of my sanity left," Jared replied with a smirk as he walked over to his friend. He fell down on to the couch.
"So what the deal? How much trouble are you in?" Matt asked getting right to the point.
"None, officer Bryant is sick of Taylor doing this. He threw the first punch which a lot of people came in to tell him, and it's all caught on camera," Jared replied.
"You got off scott free?" Roldy asked.
"Yep, it looks like Taylor is gonna have a lot of community service and he won't be staying at the Palm Woods anymore," Jared said with a smirk.
"Good, you should tell Artie," Noah said.
"Wait until its offices, we don't want to get the kids hopes up," Jared said quickly.
"True, so what happened with..." Roldy trailed off.
"Nothing," Jared said shrugging.
"Don't give up hope mate, he just needs some time to calm down," Gavin said.
"I guess," Jared sighed. He stood up and walked into the kitchen. The others continued talking.
-We Are-
Kyle yawned he listened to Kendall talk. They had dropped Jared off at the Palm Woods and James had taken Kyle's keys to drive his car home. Kendall had been driving for almost an hour now. He wanted to talk to Kyle alone. He explained his side of things and Kyle listened to him. He actually listened and then told Kendall what happened with Taylor.
"Trust me Kyle, if you should be worried about anyone it's not Gavin, Callum's the flirt," Kendall had replied. "He's got his eyes on Roldy which Noah doesn't like. I don't see us doing more than one show with them."
"You don't know that, after I stormed out on Jared I-" Kyle stopped himself and looked out the window.
"You what?" Kendall asked.
"I was upset," Kyle said not looking at his dad. "I needed to talk to someone and Miles was busy. My next thought was Lilly."
"What did you do?" Kendall asked.
"You already know," Kyle replied. "Don't worry we used protection, I always do," he added.
The rest of the ride was spent in silence. When they arrived home they walked inside. Miles dashed from the living room with a smile.
"There's our convict," Miles teased. Kyle rolled his eyes.
"Miles, Kyle is in trouble and grounded," Kendall said.
"Ok, but just so you know when you turn your back I'm gonna sneer up there anyways," Miles said.
"Ten minutes, then go home," Kendall replied.
Kyle and Miles quickly ran upstairs. They entered Kyle's bedroom and shut the door.
"Spill," Miles said.
"I went to the Palm Woods to apologize to Jared. Lilly forced me to go and when we got there Taylor was being an asshole," Kyle said.
"I hate that guy," Miles said shaking his head.
"You sister knocked him flat on his ass," Kyle laughed.
"Lilly? No way," Miles gasped shocked. Kyle nodded his head. "So how did Jared get involved?"
"I don't know, he must've saw Lilly punch him. He decided to jump in. I think he just wanted to beat the crap out of Taylor," Kyle replied.
"Interesting," Miles said tapping his chin.
"Stop being so weird," Kyle said shoving his friend. Miles grinned and shoved Kyle back.
"Now you're grounded and I have no one to help my spy on Lucas and his new catch," Miles said.
"New catch?" Kyle asked.
"He's dating someone and he won't tell me," Miles said frowning. "I don't know why he won't tell me. I'm an awesome secret keeper."
"Ha. Don't make me laugh," Kyle said shaking his head. "Leave him be, he'll tell us when he's ready."
"Fine," Miles sighed. He checked his phone and made a face. "I better go before your dad comes up and locks me out." He said as there was a knock at the door.
"Too late," Kyle chuckled.
Miles opened the door and grinned at Kendall. "I know, I over stayed my welcome. I'm leaving," he said quickly.
"Ok then," Kendall said as Miles ducked past him.
Kendall looked to Kyle. Kyle just shrugged at him. He had given up trying to understand Miles a long time ago.
-We Are-
Logan was moving about his office. Carlos had told him everything that had happened with Lilly. He was a little disappointed in her for fighting, but from what he heard she came out on top. He was a little impressed. He had done his share of telling her off, but Carlos still seemed pissed. He was t sure why the Latino as so worked up over this.
"What are we gonna do Logan?"
Logan looked up at Carlos. He was standing in the doorway with his arms crossed. Carlos was so mad right now, and Logan wasn't sure why.
"What? From what I got from her, she was defending Kyle. She didn't start it and she was arrested so no harm no foul," Logan shrugged.
"Are you serious right now?" Carlos asked.
"You're starting to sound like me. Carlos relax, she's fine," Logan said.
"When did you become so chill?" Carlos asked. He walked into the office and fell onto the small couch for two. Logan smiled and joined his husband.
"I don't know, when did you become so panicky and controlling?" Logan asked.
"Logan this is getting out of hand, next thing you know she will be telling us she pregnant," Carlos said hanging his head.
"No she won't, she's too smart for that. Even in this rebellious stage she's in, she's too smart for that to happen," Logan assured his husband.
"For your sake I hope your right," Carlos sighed falling back in his seat. Logan smiled and pulled the Latino closer to him.
"We're parents Los, we can only do so much. We have to trust we taught them enough and that she will make good decisions, because this is it. She's going to college in a few months and she won't be here," Logan said.
"I know, it's hard though," Carlos sighed.
"No one ever said life was easy," Logan replied.
-We Are-
Jared sighed as he left the studio. Kendall had been trying to get the last of his vocals recorded for the album. Jared wanted to finish this album and get it out, but he couldn't for the life of him get it right. Something was just off.
Jared walked out to the parking lot. He saw Gavin talking with Dan. He spotted Jared and waved to him. He finished his conversation with Dan. Gavin ran over.
"Hey can I steal a ride to my hotel, Dan has a meeting with Kendall and I don't want to sit around," Gavin said.
"Sure," Jared said. Gavin waved Dan off and got into the car with Jared.
"Thanks, Dan is a pain in the arse," Gavin said shaking his head. Jared chuckled at that. "Having a laugh at how I talk?"
"Maybe," Jared replied.
"So uh, what happened with you and Kyle? I thought you two were so in love last time we met," Gavin said.
"We were, it's just now things are different," Jared sighed. "I did something stupid that he can't see past and it just isn't working anymore. Plus you know it just seemed like everybody was against us dating in the first place," he said.
"Really? You're gonna let other people bully you into giving up on your relationship?" Gavin asked.
"He wants nothing to do with me," Jared said annoyed.
"If that was true why did he show up at the Palm Woods the other day?" Gavin asked.
Jared opened his mouth to reply but froze. That was a good point. Why had Kyle shown up like that. It made Jared wonder what Taylor had said to the blonde.
"Exactly, don't count yourself out just yet. What ever happened he's getting over it and he still cares about you," Gavin said.
"How would you even know that? You don't even know Kyle," Jared said.
"No, but I know love when I see it. Just as Crisp, he and his girlfriend have been together for three years now because of me," Gavin boasted proudly.
"Gavin the love doctor," Jared laughed.
"Exactly," Gavin replied with a smirk. Jared just shook his head.
-We Are-
Adam got out of His car and quickly set about getting Miri out. He heard a car pull up behind him.
"They asked you to come over too?"
Adam stood up with Miri and turned to Jake. He arched a brow at his brother.
"What do you think they wanna tell us?" Adam asked.
"I don't know, but this must be serious if they want us all here," Jake replied as he watched Leora pull into the driveway. Kyle got out of the passengers seat and ran over to Adam and quickly stole Miri. Miri smiled and babbled happily.
"What are you guys doing here?" Kyle asked.
"Dad and pops asked us to come over," Jake replied.
"Damn, I thought we were in trouble for a second there. They asked us both to come straight home," Kyle said.
"What do you think they want," Leora asked.
"Well there's one way to find out," Adam said looking up to the house.
They four made they're way inside. They all headed to the living room. Kendall, James, and Penelope were sitting on the couch. They stopped talking at once. Kyle set Miri down and she ran over to the toy of where Jenny was playing with some toys herself.
"Hey Pen," Kyle greeted the other blonde with a smile. She smiled and greeted him and the others.
"So what is this about?" Jake asked.
"Have a seat, we need to talk to you guys," Kendall said standing up. The four all found a seat and looked to him for answers. "Ok so this is something I had no idea about before. It only recently came to light and o figure it would be better for you guys to hear this from me," he said.
"What's wrong?" Leora asked confused.
"Just spit it out Ken," James said.
"Penelope is my daughter," Kendall said. All four kids jaws dropped. They all looked to Penelope shocked. She gave them a small hesitant smile. "Her mother is Jo and I had no idea that she was my daughter until recently." He said.
"In all fairness neither did I," Penelope said quickly. "My parents just told me that I was adopted and gave me a picture of my mom. All they knew was she was an actress and she gave them a fake name," she said reached into her pocket to show them the picture.
"So you're like our sister?" Leora asked slowly.
"I guess so," Penelope said nodding her head.
"Wow, and you never knew?" Jake asked looking to Kendall.
"No, Jo left to another country to shoot a movie and briefly returned to the states to give birth and gave Penelope up for adoption. She never told me anything," Kendall said firmly.
"Wow."
The four all sat there a moment before looking to Penelope again. None of them really knew what to say. This was a big shock.
"So what do you wanna do?" Jake asked her.
"What?" Penelope asked confused.
"He means do you want to be a part of this family or what," Adam said.
"Oh, well I don't know. I mean I have my mom and dad, my sisters, and my brother," Penelope said slowly. "I guess I kind of want both. I mean biologically you guys are family, but it's strange," she said.
"Ok guys I know this is a shock, but Penelope is gonna need some help adjusting," Kendall said looking to his kids.
"What do you mean?" Leora asked confused.
"For when the press finds out," Kyle said nudging her. "And trust me they will and it will be awful," he said.
"Shut up, don't listen to him. He hates the spotlight with a passion. Something that confuses me considering who he dated," Adam said smacking Kyle upside the head. Kyle just glared at Adam.
"At first it might be overwhelming," Leora said.
"Yeah, they kind of go crazy but things die down after a bit and they find the next big story. Just know that if you ever need someone to talk to you got us," Jake said.
"Thanks," Penelope said smiling at them.
-We Are-
Roldy sighed as he followed Jared, Matt, and Noah off another soundstage. They had been doing interviews to promote their new album and their show with Vivid Insanity. Things were fast paced and everything was just crazy.
"You ok?"
Roldy looked up and saw Jared had slowed to walk with him. Noah and Matt were taking and not paying them any mind.
"I'm fine," Roldy said.
"You don't seem fine," Jared replied. He gave Roldy a questioning look.
"I'm fine, just tired," Roldy replied brushing Jared off.
"If you say so," Jared mumbled. He took off ahead once more. He joined Matt and Noah once more. Noah looked at him and then over his shoulder to Roldy. He smiled at the blonde and slowed down to walk with him.
"Hey," Noah said with a smile. Roldy looked to Noah and couldn't help but smile himself.
"Hey No," Roldy said. They walked in silence. It wasn't awkward or weird. It was comfortable.
"I love you, you know that right?" Noah asked softly.
"I know Noah," Roldy replied. "I love you too," he said. Noah grinned and grabbed Roldy's hand as they walked along.
-We Are-
Kendall yawned as he walked up the stairs. Today had been long and he wanted nothing more than to just go to sleep. The kids seemed to take the news about Penelope pretty good. He wasn't sure the news had really sunk in just yet. He was still trying to accept it.
Kendall shook his head as he reached Jenny's room. He checked on her nene was sleeping peacefully. She was the only one who didn't have to deal with this new news. She would grow up just knowing that Penelope was family now. She didn't have to deal with the shock.
Kendall made his way to his bedroom. He saw James sitting on the bed. He hadn't noticed Kendall yet. James was holding something. Kendall walked into the room and saw James was holding a picture.
"What's this?" Kendall asked as he sat down next to James. James looked over at Kendall.
"It's our family portrait, the last one we took when Jenny was about a month old," James said.
Kendall took the picture into his hands. It was of their family. Kendall and James were sitting together. Kendall had Jenny in his arms and was smiling at her more than anything. Jake and Adam were standing behind them. Adam was holding Miri in his arms. Kyle and Leora were on either side of Kendall and James.
"James," Kendall said slowly.
James jumped up and shook his head. "I've been trying to be ok with this Kendall. You know I adore Penelope and all, but it's hard to get past that you have a daughter," he admitted.
"James, I had no idea that Jo was even pregnant, if I had known-" Kendall started.
"You'd have left me and gone right back to her," James said quickly. A hand flew to his mouth. He turned away from the blonde.
"This isn't about Pen is it," Kendall asked.
"Twenty years later and she still has me questioning myself," James sighed hanging his head.
Kendall stood and moved over to the brunette. He took his into his arms. James jumped shocked and looked over his shoulder.
"Don't ever question yourself or my love for you," Kendall said firmly. He made the brunette turn around to face him. "I love you more than anything. If I had known about Penelope before I would've fought to keep her yes, but I don't love Jo that way and I would never leave you," he said firmly. He framed James' face with his hands. "I love you with all my heart." He leaned in and pressed a kiss to James' lips.
"I love you too," James replied once they parted.
"I know this is a big adjustment James," Kendall said softly, "but like it or not this happened. We just have to deal with it," he said.
"I think we need to update our family portrait," James said.
"Maybe after we get our two newest editions," Kendall replied. James smiled at that. Kendall hugged the brunette once more. He just wanted him to know that nothing had changed between them. He still loved him and would do anything for him.
So there you go another chapter. Lots going on here. Kyle, Lilly, and Jared all got into a fight. Why did Jared join in? Will Kyle forgive Jared and give him a chance to explain everything?
