Operation Blank Conspiracy 15
Time: 07:45 hours
"So…let me get this straight," Duo said staring up at the three colonels not in the least bit intimidated by the power they obviously held. "You want me to join your little organization because you say it will benefit me?" Yes…that was how the meeting started. Aside from the simple meet and greet, Duo joined them for a seat in the conference room where he was accommodated with breakfast, coffee, and a load of bull crap. "For your information, I don't need any help."
Part of his irritation probably came from the fact that once again Heero had invaded his dreams. Except this time it involved wrestling, oil, and the very naked and good looking Preventer agent. Because of that, he'd ended up with very little sleep if not some other very annoying problems as well. So he was tired, his head hurt from the lack of rest, and now he was stuck here meeting three of the head people running The Preventers. It was all…very annoying.
The three ladies didn't get mad at all, which he was really surprised by. Colonel Une, who was sitting at the center of the two ladies at the conference table across from him, leaned forward resting her elbows on the table and placing her chin on her hands. Despite the color of his eyes, she didn't look away from him. None of the colonels did. He wasn't sure how they were able to without feeling like he was some kind of freak of nature.
"What if we said we could give you free access to OZ along with all of their locations?"
"…Then I'd say you're out of your mind for telling me this," Duo said then grinned at them. "Or have you not read in your reports that I can tap into any computer and surveillance systems I want."
"We have one of the most top notched systems that exist." She made a gesture towards Colonel Po who leaned to the side reaching down on the ground and came back up with a laptop in her hands. Duo lifted a brow at Une before he looked at the laptop sitting on the table. "If you want, you can try tapping into it."
Duo frowned suspiciously before smirking and reaching out pulling the laptop to him. "Hn. Alright, I'll give you a little taste of my skills then." He went to work quickly, opening the main page using his brain and his fingers combined to work at the code. The page had to have a code or a password of some type to be able to get inside.
Within ten minutes, the main page continued to stare at him blankly aside from the giant "access denied" that kept greeting him at his attempts. It frustrated him to the point his head was starting to hurt. He looked over the laptop monitor glaring at the three women before he forced himself to calm down. No, that's what they wanted. They wanted him to get mad. The three women were still just sitting there calmly and very quietly watching him.
"…" Duo slid the laptop back over to the three women. The frown looked like it could permanently be stuck to his face. "…So if I agree to join the Preventers?" He was stuck. Right now on his own he didn't really have much information on OZ. They hid their information well to prevent someone like Duo from finding them again, especially since he'd already found them before and destroyed one of their bases. He wondered if 01 had something to do with his not being able to find any information on OZ.
"…The proposition is this…you take the week long training course. Once you pass it and the decision is made to make you one of us, you'll be given basic information of OZ." She was staring at him hard, the glasses she wore glared making it hard for him to see her eyes openly. "You will become one of our elitist…and then prove to us that we can fully trust you." Her hands moved somewhat covering her lips from view though he could hear her clearly. "Do this and we'll give you everything you want about OZ, including the locations we know they are hiding, our inside information about their base, and the means to destroying them."
Duo frowned. He felt like he was being controlled. He'd have to listen to orders and would probably lose the freedom to move around freely from place to place as he had before. On the other hand…OZ. He'd have all the information he needed on them and then some. He'd be able to wipe out all of OZ and never have to worry about them chasing after him or his family ever again. He'd find a way to free Solo from their brainwashing and maybe get the other to join him.
"…Fine." He reached across the table, holding his hand out and grinning at her staring fiercely into her eyes, not feeling as much like a maniac as he probably looked. "I'll do the training, join the elite group, and then make you trust me so I can get what I want." A part of him wondered at the fact that they didn't just destroy OZ themselves since they knew where they were located.
She reached out grabbing his hand and shaking it sealing the deal. "Good. Then your training starts this morning. You'll meet with Quatre at 8:00 hours then Trowa at 10:00. You'll have a break for lunch at 12:00 then restart your training again at 13:00 with Wufei. And finally-"
"I'll meet with Heero 15:00."
"Correct." Great…so he'd be meeting with Heero twice then…for the initial meeting then for their little wrestling match later on. Or had he missed Heero mention that earlier? "This is your mission for the week. You are dismissed." And just like that he was disregarded like unimportant garbage as the three colonels starting talking to each other in silent whispers.
Duo frowned about to say something about it but he gave up not really feeling like putting up a fight. He left the meeting room aware of the eyes following him out before he headed for the elevator. He'd been taken up to the third floor via the elevator and apparently had only been admitted to the upper floor thanks to the colonels giving him permission for access.
He doubted he'd make it up here again easily, and if their coding system was anything like how their network was, he'd never make it. He'd never seen such advanced codes…codes that seemed to think as they changed each time he tried to gain access. He stopped in front of the elevator waiting on it to come up and became aware that someone was watching him.
When he glanced to the side he saw an old man with a mushroom shaped hair style looking at him. It wasn't a very comfortable feeling and Duo found himself looking away and frowning. The man watched him, even when the elevator reached his floor and he stepped in. He felt a shiver run through his body and shook his head. Creepy old men. What was it with them and looking at young men?
The door closed and he felt like he had some kind of barrier between the weird eyes. What had that been about? Well now his mood was even lousier. Crap, he hadn't even started the day yet. Well he wouldn't mind spending time with the other three, but Heero? Really? Did he have to see Heero twice today?
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::::::
Training with the Wing system always seemed to soothe him in a way nothing else seemed to be able to. He felt like he could do anything. He didn't have to interact with people. He just had to focus on the mission and his targets in front of him. The system he used was the most advanced of the four existing systems. There was a fifth one in the works being made by Professor G, the scientist. He said it wasn't ready to be operated yet but it was only a matter of time before it would.
And Duo would probably be the one to pilot it. Heero frowned at that. He didn't know if he could trust Duo with that. Sure, he was pretty certain that Duo wasn't working with OZ. But besides that, they really didn't know enough about the braided male with the numbers 02 tattooed to his back. Could he be trusted to be one of them? What if he abandoned them in the middle of a mission?
"I was busy trying to protect you!"
The words kept echoing in his mind since he'd heard Duo blurt it out. Trying to protect him…yeah that might have been true. It made him frown and think back to watching Duo being shot…thinking the man was dead. Sure, he was relieved to see that his charge hadn't been killed but it left him with a lot of what ifs. So Duo wanted to protect him. Somehow that made him feel warm inside. He didn't like it. It was like how his heart would speed up or how his cheeks would heat up with redness. They all had to be related to his condition.
"I'm heading out, Heero," Quatre said peeking around the machine to look at the male with the giant helmet like device on his head. His was the only system with the elaborate headgear. It was still something that was in a trial state. The others would have one for their systems soon as well. "I told Duo I'd meet up with him back at the room this morning. Looks like we'll be starting the training today."
"Hm…" They'd had their little meeting. Everyone knew when the training time was…but Heero had other plans. He wasn't planning on seeing Duo at 15:00. No, he was going to meet him at the same time he'd told him he'd meet him which was around 21:00. Not only were their less people to deal with, but he'd be able focus better without all the background noise distracting him or his opponent. Still…he was curious to see how this training went.
"I'm coming to observe." He slipped out of the simulation grabbing up his results without even looking at it. The Trowa and Wufei were already gone, probably to prepare for whatever they had in mind for their training.
"Sure you won't be bored?" Quatre offered him a smile holding his own results neatly folded in his hand. They'd deliver them to the scientist later for research reasons.
"I'll live," Heero said simply and waited for the other to start walking before following. The meeting with the four of them had lasted no more than fifteen minutes. They only discussed what they were going to do along with the times they were going to do them at. Heero told them about his change of time. There was no dispute about it and everyone completed their personal simulation training before going about their own business.
He followed Quatre down to his room. Duo was already there, not inside this time but just standing by the door with his arms folded and staring down at the floor with a frown on his face. He didn't look too happy and it made Heero wonder what had him so agitated.
Then he heard their footfalls and looked over smiling when his eyes met Quatre. "Hey Quatre! Ready for the-eww it's Heero." He frowned staring at Heero and the Preventer agent frowned in return to say he wasn't happy to see him either. "Uh…what's he doing here? Isn't this just training for me and you this morning?"
"Well he said he wanted to observe the training exercise." Quatre smiled at him and it seemed to ease some of the tension out of Duo's shoulders. Wait, what did he have to be tense about? Heero was the one having the stomach pains and chest aches.
"So what are we training on today?" He seemed pretty eager to start now, turning his eyes away from Heero and more or less ignoring him.
"Well, we'll be working on some computer stuff. For now we'll start simple with camera surveillances."
"Camera surveillances?"
"Maintenance," Heero said making it clearer and also adding his input because he knew it would piss off the braided male. He saw the man formerly known as 02 glaring at him with a twitching eye and couldn't help but smirk in return. Good. He deserved that for being so annoying.
"Some of the cameras are in need of being replaced. We check to make sure they're receiving real time feeds and not lagging or shorting out. I know there were a few getting there the last time I was here before I left on the mission. Someone might have taken care of them but well…it never hurts to check them out again anyway."
Duo sighed and shrugged his shoulders. "Fine. Let's get this over as quickly as possible. Man this sounds boring."
Heero followed after the two of them as they walked towards the computer lab, trying in vain to not look like he was staring at Duo's butt on the walk. It was hard not to though, with the braid being there to lead his eyes to exactly that.
Duo must have noticed it because he glanced back catching Heero completely off guard before the violet eyed male's cheeks went red and he turned around quickly to continue walking. The reaction made Heero slow down staring after him and feeling his heart speeding up a little bit. What had that been about? Had Duo just blushed? It made his own cheeks redden just thinking about the reaction.
"Here," Quatre said leading them into the lab and heading over to a computer. He logged into the network easily and Duo frowned staring trying to memorize the keys. He wondered if that would even help. The system felt like it might have been a little more advanced than just pushing a few keys. Once logged in, Quatre went into the surveillance folder where all the camera feeds showed up.
"It's…a little time consuming. But that's why it's been split up into groups. I'm responsible for checking groups A50-A100. They're the areas that need to be kept the most secured. It just takes sitting and watching them for about five minutes before moving on to the next one."
"…How in the world do you do it?" Duo asked staring at Quatre in wonder. He couldn't even stay focused that long on his own cameras, and he'd been the one install them! That had to make you bored out of your mind.
"It's not that bad," Quatre said to him and smiled before glancing at Heero behind him. "Heero used to help out in doing this kind of stuff too but he says it's a waste of time."
"I don't care about doing pointless things in my spare time."
"Oh?" Duo looked up at him with his pretty violet eyes and Heero had to force himself not to look away, though his cheeks did redden a little. He did fold his arms to try to hide his discomfort though. "And what do you do in your spare time?"
"…Training. Hacking. Getting stronger."
"…You're really boring, you know that?" Who asked him? These were just the things that Heero did. No one asked Duo to find enjoyment in the things he did. "Don't you ever do fun stuff? Like dance? Go to the bar? Drink? Get loose?"
"I don't get loose." He grunted even though he didn't even know what get loose meant.
Duo laughed at that before he smirked at him. "Maybe I should take you to the club later on. I might get to see Mr. Serious dancing and drinking." His violet eyes passed over him once before staring up at Heero, the smirk dropping slightly as their eyes met again. Duo bit his lips before he glanced away from him and Heero found the sight completely etched into his brain. Damn it. Not good.
"Make sure you train him hard," Heero said before looking at Quatre. Duo made a face at that but by this point Heero was making effort to avoid eye contact or even looking at Duo. He left out of the room on that note leaving Duo to the torture of boring desk work.
Once he stepped outside he paused to lean against the wall and held the back of his hand to his mouth staring at the ground with transfixed eyes. He didn't feel like he was going to throw up, but his stomach was knotting up and he found himself clutching at his chest breathing hard. He shouldn't have checked up on Duo. The last thing he wanted was to contribute more to his stress level. But he waited, ignoring the looks he got from those passing by until he felt himself calm down. He wasn't going to let these…these weird feelings control them. Even if he did find himself wanting to go back inside and see more of those smiling lips.
TBC….
