Operation Blank Conspiracy 17
Heero found he was anxious to get the training started. He'd been doing workouts during the day to build his muscles up and now he was ready to take on the superhuman Duo Maxwell. The problem was…thirty minutes had passed and there was no sign of Duo anywhere in the training area. Heero frowned before he started walking towards the door. It tended to quiet down this time of night as a lot of people liked to get in earlier to prepare for the next morning. Usually the only ones moving around were the night shift crew and the people that didn't know how to go to bed…like him.
There were a couple of people still swimming in the pool but he ignored them frowning as he headed for the door. It'd be a good idea to get Duo a cell phone soon so that contacting him would be easier. He was betting he was staying in the room with Quatre and was probably just being a dick about coming out to train with him. Heero reached to his side pulling out the cell phone from his elastic band and was about to call Quatre when the phone buzzed to live.
He frowned when he looked down seeing the number wasn't any of the other four but was from the colonel herself. Part of him didn't want to answer it, but his orders came before his own personal thoughts. That's how he'd been trained. He didn't speak, just accepted the call and listened for the other person to speak. That was just how he did it…and all of the guys and colonels knew that.
"Heero, we've got a situation on our hands. It involves Duo Maxwell."
Heero frowned giving his full attention then. "What's the situation?"
"02…no…Duo Maxwell refuses to cooperate with the head nurse to receive his checkup. We need you to go to Division 2 and contain the subject."
Heero's lips became a grim line as he gripped his cell phone hard. "…I'm sure I put into the reports that I sent to you that Duo doesn't like doctors. He is not going to willingly subject himself being probed. I'm willing to bet you didn't even tell him about needing a checkup in this morning's meeting." Did the higher ups even read his reports? Or did they completely ignore the part about Duo being experimented on and literally destroying the lab he escaped from thanks to a bunch of stupid doctors and scientist?
"It is imperative that the head nurse gets probable test samples from the subject. Regardless of what Duo Maxwell thinks, this is in his best interest and is meant to help him." Her voice sounded harsh over the phone. She clearly was not happy about the situation herself, though it could have been more from Duo not doing what she wanted than the actual test itself. "I'm making it an order to contain Duo Maxwell by any means necessary for the head nurse to complete her task."
"Colonel-"
"Don't fight me on this, Heero Yuy. I've never had a problem out of you ever and I really don't want it to start now. Just follow your orders." Yeah, she was mad alright.
"…Yes," Heero said having to grit it out between his teeth. He was glaring so hard right now that people were making it a point to look at the ground and move along quickly.
"Good. Duo Maxwell is currently on lock down in Quatre Winner's room. Take care of this quickly and efficiently." She hung up the line leaving Heero to stand there clenching his teeth together. Well at least he knew the reason for why Duo hadn't shown up at all. Did the Colonel not realize that she could be putting them all in danger? Duo wasn't a normal human…and was probably far from stable considering the looks he'd given Heero in the past.
He'd seen the dark look before…and it always happened when something wasn't going the way Duo had it planned. Duo did not like being trapped. The dumbest thing to do was to lock him in a room then threaten him with a visit from the nurse.
He took off, running down the hallway with urgency as he headed for Division 2. He'd take the elevator here since it would take him right across from Quatre's room. Honestly, he never knew he could run so fast. His heart surged in his chest from adrenaline and from worry of something happening to Duo. Nurse Sicily was the head nurse and had probably agreed to see Duo under the assumption of finally getting to see the man that everyone in the shuttle was talking about. It made Heero even angrier to think that the Colonel would put even the head nurse into such a dangerous situation.
When the elevator door binged he stepped out quickly and looked up seeing a wide eyed Quatre standing beside a similarly startled Nurse Sicily. He was glad to see that both of them appeared uninjured, except for a few scratches on Quatre's face and arms. But he didn't relax yet, not until he was able to check on Duo.
"What happened?" Heero asked as he walked over stepping in front of Quatre to assess the situation. Some of the scratches looked deep and obviously from human nails. He'd apparently had a rough time with the braided male.
"I don't know…he was fine earlier. Then when Nurse Sicily came and I greeted her he just…snapped." He seemed to be still spaced out because of it, his eyes watching the door warily reminding Heero of when they'd first met Duo. Quatre hadn't been too fond of him at that time. But Heero could tell he was still worried despite his wariness. He could read it in his eyes. "I tried to get him to calm down but nothing I did would work."
"Unlock the door," Heero said calmly standing in front of the door.
"Heero?" Quatre blinked staring at his back. "Are you sure?"
"It's part of my orders to contain him so the nurse can do her tests." He glanced back at Nurse Sicily feeling her visibly calming down in his presence. He seemed to have that effect on people. Everyone always relied on him to be the hero, whether he wanted to or not. "Nurse Sicily and I will be the only two going in."
He already hated this. All he wanted to do today was train and get stronger. How did that flip around so quickly? Well if he was going to have to go through the fight of getting Duo to stay still, then this would be as good a training as any.
He rolled his neck, waiting for the door to unlock before he started inside. He found Duo quickly, sitting on Quatre's bed and pressed as far into the corner as he could be. He was staring at the door wildly, looking the perfect picture of a cornered cat. If he had cat ears, Heero was sure they'd be pulled back at this moment. His eyes were wide and his arms were wrapped around his knees protectively as he watched them warily.
His eyes focused on Heero's with a bit of recognition before they focused on the nurse. He instantly hid his face in his legs at the sight of her but he didn't make a move to get up. Even then, this felt like it was going to be one hell of a fight.
"Duo…" Heero tried the name, testing to see what reaction he would get from it. Besides the stiffening of shoulders, nothing much changed about Duo's posture. So far everything was going smooth. He walked towards the bed slowly, leaving the nurse by the door in case things turned for the worse. He stopped when he stood in front of the bed.
He hesitated frowning as he stared at Duo. He didn't like seeing him like this. He wasn't used to it. He knew Duo had had a harsh past, but he didn't know it'd go to this extent.
"Duo…" He said the name again seeing the other tense up. Then Duo lifted his head just enough to see Heero. The hard stare made his blood run cold. This was getting dangerous. His eyes had darkened considerably to the point that some of the glow he had there had disappeared. At this point, Heero wasn't sure if he could really do anything to calm him down.
"…Go back outside with Quatre. Tell him to lock the door."
"I still need to-"
"Screw the test. I'll talk to the Colonel myself about it." And he would…because this was just too stupid. He didn't care if he got written up for it either. Unless Duo gave them permission for it, he wasn't going to go through with the testing. She'd just have to suck it up and move on. She was the one making him stay here after all.
Heero waited until he heard the door open and shut before he decided to make his move. "Duo," he said softly, not wanting to alarm him as he reached out cautiously. Duo watched his hand moving closer and Heero could see the panic starting to rise in his eyes.
"Calm down," Heero said, staring into his eyes willing Duo to see him as a human being and not one of those monsters that experimented on him. "We're not going to do anything to you."
Duo gasped before the next thing Heero knew, he was on the ground on his back. He groaned seeing stars dancing before his eyes before his vision cleared and he looked up finding Duo straddling his chest. He was holding Heero's shirt tight, breathing hard enough that his chest could be seen moving. His arm was lifted in the air with a tight fist prepared to beat Heero into submitting to him. His teeth were bared at Heero, his braid half undone and messy probably from tumbling with Quatre earlier. At this moment, he didn't really look like the Duo he knew anymore.
Heero didn't move though. He continued to stare up at Duo, showing him that he wasn't a threat to him as he left his arms spread out where they landed. There were things his body was telling him to do, like to reach up and hug Duo to him. Touch him and tell him everything would be ok. But he didn't follow any of those…waiting for Duo to calm down and to not see him as a threat.
It took some time, two minutes from what his mental clock was telling him, before Duo finally started to breathe normally. His eyes looked tired as they stared down at him, his forehead glistening with sweat though it probably wasn't the only thing sweating. The grip on Heero's shirt was finally starting to loosen as well which was good because it was starting to dig into his neck.
"Duo..." This time Duo really did listen to him, his head jumped back slightly as if he really was trying to keep from falling asleep. He lowered his arm as the look showed he really did recognize him this time.
"H…Heero?" Good…he was finally getting him to start talking now. He sounded confused. Maybe what happened before was just a defense mechanism? Something triggered by the panic he'd felt at seeing the nurse so unexpectedly? His indigo eyes were starting to regain some of the familiar glow.
"Yeah," he said in response and reached up gently ruffling Duo's hair. He couldn't help it. Something inside of him was just begging him to do it. He was too tired to really fight it. "Just relax for now. Everything will-"
"Heero, is everything ok?" Sicily's voice was there at the opened door where he could see the two figures clearly peeking in. He saw Duo's eyes widening starting to panic and look towards the door. Crap, if he looked over there and saw the nurse standing there too, they'd have to go through this all again! He wasn't going to let that happen.
Instinct followed through to distract Duo in any way possible. He slide his hand back behind Duo's head pulling him down as he leaned himself up pressing his lips against his braided charge. Duo's eyes flickered back to his instantly, still wide but without the look of panic. Instead he looked surprised, his lips and his body in general frozen where it hovered over Heero.
If they weren't in such an awkward situation, Heero would have smirked at the look. Instead, his stomach was twisting wildly from the kiss and his heart was pounding like thunder in his ears. His eyes were probably just as wide at this moment and he had to fight looking away when he felt his cheeks heating up from the stare.
Then the look softened, Duo's eyes closing partly before they fully closed and he started to kiss him back. And well…Heero didn't expect that kind of reaction…but he liked it. Duo's lips were soft against his and he found himself trying to mimic the way Duo moved his. Well it wasn't like he knew how to kiss. He'd never done it before.
The kiss broke suddenly and Duo slouched down, sliding until his head was resting against Heero's chest. In the next instance, he was asleep leaving Heero lying there on the floor with his eyes staring up at the ceiling and his mouth slightly gaped open. He was breathing hard a little and looked down hearing Duo's little snores as he escaped to dream world. And it hadn't even been five seconds!
Heero swallowed slightly, closing his eyes to get his thoughts together. Then he remembered they weren't alone and looked over seeing Nurse Sicily and Quatre standing there gaping at them. Well Quatre was gaping…Sicily was somehow looking a bit on the smug side.
He waited until he was sure he could speak clearly before he glared at her, the glare losing most of its effectiveness when it came with a blush. "This has nothing to do with your idea that this is…that other condition," he said even as his arm pulled Duo closer to him. "This is still caused by stress."
"So you say," she said laughing softly. "But do remember to come by for your checkup tomorrow."
"Hn."
Her expression grew serious after her little joke. "I'll…write up a report. I'm pretty sure he's suffering from post-traumatic stress which is something we seriously don't want to agitate in his case. I'd like to see what he's been through to figure out a way past it but…." She frowned a bit. "I'll have to figure out a better way to explain this to the colonel-"
"Don't," Heero said feeling the anger heating up in him. "I'll talk to her first thing in the morning." He had to…he needed to lay down some ground rules when it came to Duo. He wasn't a normal person…so he couldn't be treated like the average Joe. Otherwise they were all going to get themselves killed.
"Alright, then I'll see you tomorrow." She left them there with the wide eyed Quatre who finally made his way into the room. He acted like he was scared to sleep in his own bed now. Then again, any normal person would be a bit freaked out if they'd had to face a suddenly berserk male.
"So um…" Quatre looked down at them then coughed glancing away, cheeks a little red. "…How long have you two-"
"You're reading too much into it," Heero interrupted standing up and lying Duo down on the bed. "Whatever happened here, you didn't see it." And Heero gave him a look as if to say, just try it.
"Fine…even though I'm pretty sure I know what I saw." He offered a smile to soften the blow. "Obviously Duo must like you in some kind of way because I doubt that would have worked for anyone else."
"Hn." Somehow those words made him proud. Good, not just anyone should be kissing on Duo. But then he was starting to wonder about the look. Duo definitely didn't offer up any complaints to the kiss. In fact he'd been enthusiastic about it. Heero reached up rubbing his fingers against his lips then glanced over seeing Quatre staring at him with the biggest grin on his face.
Heero glared at him…and again it didn't help to be blushing when he did that. "Night." He moved for the door preparing to make his escape and go get some much needed rest.
"Uh Heero…." He glanced back seeing Quatre's nervous look. "Are you sure he'll be ok staying here?"
"…Well he was fine before."
"Yeah but…that was before he suddenly went on a rampage."
"That's because someone was stupid enough to have a nurse come see him," he said trying not to think about how much that pissed him off. And he didn't get pissed off easily.
"Yeah but…I mean just for tonight can't you just…" The bubbly look Quatre was giving him was hard to avoid. He knew how to use his looks to get what he wanted. He'd done it plenty of times to Trowa and even to Colonel Noin.
"…Fine. Just for tonight though." And he just knew he was going to regret this as he picked Duo up. He'd really forgotten how light Duo really was until today. Surprising to think that he could literally break a person's arm with his bare hands.
"Thanks, Heero." And he could tell Quatre really meant it. He didn't blame him though. He'd been through much worse with having his arms scratched up so suddenly by an attack he wasn't expecting. Heero gave him a small nod before he headed out the door taking Duo back to his room.
He laid him down where Duo quickly rolled over onto his side. That's good. He needed the space to sleep too after all. He wasn't really sure how much sleep he was going to get though, not with his heart trying to break out of his chest anyway. No, sleep wasn't going to really come so soon for him. He needed to get rewired down first. But he wasn't opted to leaving Duo alone in the room, not so soon.
He settled on typing on his laptop for a bit, catching up on any news going on around the world that he might have missed. He also needed to figure out what to tell the Colonel in the morning. Tomorrow was not going to be a good day for him. He could feel it already.

I might just do a double posting of this story this weekend. So there's a small possibility of chapter 18 coming out tomorrow. Yay!
