Author's comment: I seriously had fun with this chapter, especially the second part.

Operation Blank Conspiracy 22
Holy crap he was running late. He hadn't even had a chance to eat yet. Duo rushed down the hallway, heading for his training with Trowa, his braid still dripping wet from his shower. He was still more than a little tired not to mention that his body ached and gave a bit of a limp to his quick walk. Screw running today. It wasn't like it was his fault…well mostly.
He slowed himself down really thinking about what had happened last night. Crap…really…did they really…do that? Oh crap his face was burning up now that he was really slowing down to think about it. He would have been at the gymnastics room by now if Heero hadn't come into the bathroom and gotten Duo distracted. It didn't help that the moment afterwards was awkward. Duo had just said a quick, I'll see you later, then rushed off quickly. What else could he say after something so sudden? Thanks for the sex?
His cheeks just turned redder at the thought. He hated to say he didn't regret it, but he didn't. Even if he'd never actually done it with anyone before... Hell, he hadn't even kissed before! The person he got to do it with was someone he fantasized about a lot in his off time. And he now had very little left to his imagination as to what Heero looked like naked and what it'd feel like to snuggle against that naked body and kiss those hot lips.
Heero had been warm…and the thought easily put a smile on Duo's face. The way Heero had looked at him last night had been so perfect. He wished he could have stayed stuck in that time forever. But he was still thinking about this morning. Though Heero didn't glare at him and did speak a few words, he'd been avoiding his eyes. He'd also turn bright red and cover his mouth with his hand which Duo was finding to be something common he'd seen before.
Damn, now he was grinning like an idiot. He wanted to see more of that look. It was a side of Heero he was learning about now. It was about as bad as learning about how passionate Heero was during love making. Who knew? But knowing that he was the one making those looks appear on Heero's face definitely made him feel giddy inside. It put him into such a good mood that he didn't even realize how people were staring at him. Not like he would have cared anyway.
He was still confused how he'd gotten things mixed up with Heero and Wufei. He'd texted Wufei right after he'd left for the gymnasium, apologizing profusely for not coming to the party last night. So far he hadn't received anything back which bugged him. Was Wufei mad at him? Wufei had already said he wasn't big on parties and here Duo had begged him to come and hadn't even shown up himself. What kind of friend was he? If he were Wufei, he'd be mad too.
Argh, maybe he should buy Wufei a gift or something around lunch time. Though he really wasn't sure what to get the guy considering he didn't know that much about him. What kind of things would Wufei actually like? He seemed to like swords and martial arts…he also seemed to enjoy reading so it seemed when they did get to talk. Argh! This was hard! Well he was Chinese so…a stuffed panda bear? No, that wouldn't look right.
Gah, what would someone like Wufei want?! A new buffer for his sword? It wasn't a bad idea really. But he wanted to get him something special. Especially since he'd gone through the trouble of buying Duo a freakin new phone! Wait…that's it!
Duo reached into his pocket pulling out he cellphone and staring at it. What if he got him a cool phone chain? Well it wasn't like he thought Wufei would care for one but…the thought that counts right? Smiling, Duo headed off to his class with Trowa. He'd get it between there and meeting up with Quatre. They weren't too far away from each other anyway. He'd wait on Wufei to text him back, just in case he was at an important part of his mission or something. Last thing he wanted to do was interrupt Wufei while he was in the middle of sneaking up on some guy.
::::::::::::::::::::
Wufei, at the timing of Duo's text, was in the middle of a very important social party abroad one of the United Earth Sphere Alliance's space stations. He wasn't alone though since he was actually there escorting Colonel Po. She was supposed to be meeting up with Queen Relena along with some big wigs belonging to OZ and Romefeller. There were a few other groups there as well, but he didn't really care a lick about them. No, his biggest concern was protecting Colonel Po while he was there as her special guest.
Still, he really did hate these kinds of parties. Everything felt so faked to him. No one was genuine about their words or the goals. It was all just a political game to further their own selfish needs and to learn as much information about their enemies as they could. The same could be said of them as well though. They definitely weren't here for the little wiener dog snacks.
There were a lot of people that caught his eye, a lot of people that felt very dangerous to him. One such person so happened to be one of the heads of Romefeller and probably of OZ as well. He was Chief Representative Treize Khushrenada who was there under Duke Dermail's orders and continued to feed Wufei's head with bad vibes. The man had a few of his own guards around him, which made sense since Romefeller wasn't really a popular company at the moment.
Romefeller, in their words, believed the world needed guidance. They believed that the reason for war was because the people lacked control because there were too many differences, both on Earth and in the Colonies. They wanted full control of both places and wanted to lead everyone under one solid leadership and one rule. Basically, they wanted the world to do as said or die. It was made even worse by the fact that it was obvious that Romefeller didn't care whatsoever for the colonies.
It was, for lack of a better word, complete bullshit. Like hell he'd just lie down and let them roll over him as they pleased. That's why the United Earth Sphere Alliance had been created to stop that kind of thing from happening. It was an obvious thorn in Romefeller's side, made even more so by the fact that the Sanc Kingdom was a part of the UESA who ruled at least 48% of the world to the 16% it had without the Sanc Kingdom's help.
Wufei sighed calming himself down before he took a sip of the water he was drinking. It wasn't exactly the best tasting but he wasn't all that fond, or old enough, for the alcohol they served. He was only eighteen years old himself after all, even if he didn't act his age being a very mature male himself.
While he was out of the focus of the group, he pulled out his cellphone checking to see he'd received a text. He'd felt the phone buzzing earlier but he'd been a bit busy entertaining some people to some annoying gossip. But now he had time to check, smiling slightly when he saw the text came from Duo.
"I'm sorry, Wufei! I'm really really really really sorry! Things came up and I lost track of the time! And after I made the others promise to show up too! Oh god I feel like such a heel right now. Please let me make it up to you when you get back? Pleeease? I'll even take you to eat some of those nasty vegetables you said you like to eat. Ick, sounds nasty just thinking about it. But I really really really am truly sorry."
Duo had only sent the one text but Wufei felt like he understood the logic behind it. Duo didn't want to interrupt him while he was on his mission. It probably took him a minute to even push the send button. He could see Duo's face while he was typing this and couldn't help smiling a bit more at the thought. This guy…what was he going to do about this guy?
"What has you smiling so happily? Whatever you're reading must be good." Wufei closed up the phone quickly before he frowned looking up at Colonel Po as she walked up to him. She just smiled at him not finding his action odd in the least.
"Nothing you need to concern yourself with, ma'am." He gave her a short salute before turning his eyes away. Usually he didn't care about this whole saluting business. But when they were out in public away from HQ, he made the effort to at least show her the respect he felt for her. They needed to know their leaders were powerful, even though they needed no help on that. Colonel Po wasn't a push over despite her nice demeanor.
She chuckled softly and smiled at him resting a hand on his shoulder. "Honestly, it's not a bad thing seeing you smile once in a while. I'm just wondering where this change of heart came from." The way her eyes stared at him made it almost certain that she knew. He hadn't started changing till Duo came around. She'd even mentioned it herself once when she came to see Wufei that the boy had a special aura about him that seemed to draw people to him.
He could agree to that. Even now that he was at this party he found himself worrying about Duo's safety. He remembered that Heero had taken him to the nurse yesterday and wondered if he was ok after something so stressful. Of course Heero had said he was fine, but it didn't help when one didn't see it for themselves.
"Anyway," the Colonel said becoming a bit more serious. "This little get together shouldn't last too much longer. Once we meet at tomorrow's meeting, we should be able to head home. I'd initially wanted you to stay a bit longer since her majesty, Queen Relena had planned to stay and speak with Romefeller more. But it seems she's decided against that action and will be returning herself tomorrow."
"Good. The sooner this is over the sooner I can get out of this useless party." And these useless clothes. He hated dressing up all fancy. It always made it hard to move around and was just stiff in general. It also forced him to wear his hair down which he was never too keen on since the ponytail made life easier.
"Colonel, I don't believe you've introduced me to your little friend here," a voice said from behind them. Sally and Wufei turned around as one, Wufei frowning as he slid the phone into his pocket. It looked like he'd have to reply to Duo's text later. Treize smiled at them looking innocent even though Wufei really doubted it.
The colonel didn't miss a beat as she held out her hand gesturing it towards Wufei. "Chief, this is Nataku." It was his code name for when he was on missions like this. Only the colonels and the four elitist new about the code name since normally he went by Shenlong on regular missions. It was the same for Trowa who went by Triton on his missions.
"He is one of my soldiers at the Preventers office," she continued staring at Treize suspiciously. "Though I was certain you had met him before." She lifted a brow at that. Wufei did too though he made a show of respect as he gave the chief a bow. He knew he'd met the man before, at least once some months back.
"I'm afraid not. You've brought many others, but I think I would have remembered this one." Wufei frowned not liking the way Treize's eyes looked at him, having seen the look before from other men. But then the eyes turned away to look again at the colonel and Wufei felt himself breathing with relief. Why were all the Romefeller guys so…creepy?
"If you don't mind, ma'am, I need to find the latrine," Wufei said sitting his water cup down and giving another salute. He started to walk away but tensed up when he heard Treize's next words.
"I'll show you where it is," Treize said behind him literally making Wufei frown and turn around to face him.
"No, I think I know where it is, sir. I'll be fine on my own."
"Nonsense," Treize said waving it away and chuckling softly. "Besides, I believe I need to make a bit of a visit there myself." Wufei turned away again, frowning and not relaxing even when the man put a hand on his shoulder escorting him away. He looked back noticing that the Sally had a bit of a suspicious look on her face too before he was taken out of the room. "Relax a little bit," Treize said looking down at him and smiling. "I'm not going to do anything to you so there's no reason to be this tense."
"As if being escorted to the men's room by a grown man isn't a reason to be tense."
"There is safety in numbers."
"There's safety in letting me piss by myself without someone holding my hand while I do it."
Wufei shrugged the hand off his shoulder walking a bit ahead of the male. He'd only stopped when he got to the restroom and rested his hand on the door before he looked over at Treize glaring at him heatedly. "Let's get one thing straight right now. If you so much as lay a finger on me, I can't guarantee I won't beat you within an inch of your life."
"Don't worry…I believe I can guarantee it for you," Treize said as two of his guards came to stand by the doors as bodyguards. Wufei tensed when he saw them, cursing under his breath. Why did he have to be the only preventer agent this time? "Now then, we had business to take care of didn't we?"
"W-We?!" Wufei didn't even get a chance to get angry as he's pushed inside the restroom followed by the Romefeller Representative. He turned quickly going into a defensive stance as he saw the man coming in. The look on Treize's face showed amusement, but other than that he turned heading over to one of the urinals to take care of his business.
Wufei frowned a bit, watching the man as he slowed stood up straight again. "…What are you up to?"
"Nothing at all. I'm only here to relieve some pressure," Treize said before he finished up and fixed himself. "I thought that's why you were in here." He glanced over at Wufei as he said it, that mysterious smile on his face again before he headed over to the sink to wash his hands. Wufei frowned more, feeling the obvious pressure of needing to go, made only worse now by the running water. He wanted to wait until the man left, but he was finding it harder to concentrate on anything but needing to go.
Treize left the water running, walking over to the paper towels and drying his hands before he headed in Wufei's direction. Wufei tensed up again, ready to fight him if he had to, but the other just walked by him and took a stood on one of the lounge chairs before looking up at Wufei with a cocky smirk.
"Well? Will you be going now? I've even been nice enough to leave the water running for you."
"…" He seriously didn't like this little game they were playing. He was used to the straight forehead enemies that didn't mind telling you they were going to destroy you only to turn around and do something stupid. But this man was like a chess player. He was obviously playing a game that involved Wufei whether the man wanted a part of it or not. And he didn't, especially since he didn't know what he was playing or the outcome of said game.
Eventually it became unbearable to hold in. Wufei rushed over to the latrine, before he threw a cautious eye back at Treize as if to tell him to stay away. Treize only smirked and shrugged his shoulders as if he could care less. That didn't stop watchful look from earlier from showing up on his face. It made Wufei nervous and he hoped he was quick enough to get done and get out of there. Especially since this was going to leave him in a pretty defenseless state.
Whipping it out, it took him a minute to get a flow started, what with being stared at from behind. But once he did, the relief was amazing. He literally just went with the floor, for a minute forgetting he wasn't even alone in the bathroom since his enemy was right there behind him. He thought about it for a minute, looking back and seeing the man sitting up staring at him intensely. What if he just killed him now?
What would he lose if he killed the Romefeller Representative right here in this men's room? Of course people would know it happened. He had two guards right outside his door. They'd know he was the one to do it too and that he was associated with the Preventers. While killing him would at least take out one of their important leaders, it wouldn't stop the foundation in the long run, just slow it down.
Then the backlash would fall on the Preventers. It might even cause them to be shut down and worse, it would be putting Duo back into a dangerous situation, one he didn't want to see happen. He was sure OZ knew where Duo was hiding at. They didn't really make it a secret when they took him back. OZ's only regret would be not getting to Duo before the Preventers had. If they could just find out more evidence against OZ and Romefeller showing that they were conducting experiments on humans then…maybe they'd have a chance. It'd hurt their image at least.
"You know, you might just be interesting."
Wufei jumped seeing the chief suddenly beside him and fixed himself quickly with shaky hands. He hated feeling like this. It always made him uncomfortable. The chief just smirked at him, watching him situate himself which just made him feel even more uncomfortable. Walking backwards, Wufei moved over to the sink washing his hands and keeps his eyes on the chief. He didn't even know the guy had moved!
It meant he definitely had experience with battles and fighting. And the way he walked, the graceful way he moved…did he use swords?
"You should think about joining Romefeller someday."
"…Excuse me?" Wufei looked over staring at the man like his was crazy, his hands dripping water on the floor.
"I can tell by the way you move. You're a fighter. But you're not just any fighter, you fight for justice, you fight for what's right against what's wrong. You're not just the average Preventer soldier like the ones I've seen in the past.
"You have a sense of individuality and honor that is lacking in soldiers today. If I had you as one of mine, we'd see endless bounds of successes." Treize made a move like he was going to walk towards him but Wufei jumped back again on the defensively. He didn't mind being on the offensive on the battle field, but when they were on these neutral grounds he had to be careful of what he did. One of the reasons he got sent to more social parties than Heero did was that Heero didn't care whose wrist he broke if they pissed him off enough.
The chief just smiled at him and it confused him enough to get out of his defensive stance again. The man was good. He could change himself from feeling like a threat to seeming harmless in just an instance. It set unusual amounts of alarming bells in his head. The man was dangerous and very skilled. He'd never met someone with such a unique persona. He didn't know how to handle it and it was only making him more nervous.
"You're not quite ready yet, it seems," the man walked towards him but the threat level was so low that Wufei couldn't seem to go on the defensive. He stared, his eyes widening the closer the man got to him. When Treize got in front of him he leaned down staring at Wufei and making the other glance around with nervousness. He didn't like this one bit.
"Maybe by then you'll be willing to tell me your real name." Wufei looked back in shock but by then the chief was walking away heading for the door. "Maybe then you'll be ready to come work for me."
"W-Wait a minute!" Wufei started after him grabbing Treize's arm firmly and glaring up at him when he turned around. "What makes you think I'd ever come work for you Romefeller dogs?" He didn't even care if he insulted him. He was pissed off. He hated feeling weak like this. It really got to him. The whole situation had gotten to him.
"Think of it as a form of destiny," Treize said smirking as he stared at him again, Wufei trying to keep the gaze before he looked away. Even though they weren't unusual eyes like how Duo's were, he couldn't keep contact. "Everything is drawn to a certain state. And right now…" Treize reached out grabbing a strand of Wufei's pulling it out lightly towards him. "There is a red twine connecting the two of us together."
Wufei's mouth gaped open before he slapped the hand away roughly only earning an amused grunt in return. "As if I'd ever have anything to do with your stupid mind games."
"Oh you will," Treize said chuckling as he turned around again. "You'll have no choice if you want to truly save what matters to you. Just give it time, it will happen." Wufei stared at him at the foreboding words before he followed him out.
The colonel was there as soon as he came out. She was glaring at the soldiers guarding the door but as soon as she saw him relief showed on her face instantly. He found himself smiling a little to think that she was worried enough to follow him. It was a relief, really, to completely know he wasn't alone.
But the chief's words kept running through his head. He wanted to know what he meant by truly saving what mattered to him. What did he have that was worth saving?
"Is everything ok?" The colonel was in front of him, staring at him worriedly when he hadn't spoken to her. Wufei sighed and gave her a nod though it didn't seem like enough to alleviate her worries.
"I'm fine," he said verbally. "He hasn't done anything to me."
"Good," she frowned a bit staring at the chief's back as he was already heading back into the party. "You were in there a long time. I got worried."
"I'm fine," he scowled out. "I'm just ready to get this stupid thing over with so we can leave."
"Just give it a little bit longer," she said smiling reassuringly. "After we finish up tomorrow and I have a few words with the Queen, we'll leave."
"Good." He snorted glaring at Treize's back and almost instantly losing it in the crowd before the two of them headed back. He hadn't even had a chance to reply to Duo yet. He'd just have to do it before bed then. Romefeller guys…why did they always have to be the creepy ones?
TBC…
