Operation Blank Conspiracy 24

Wufei sighed sitting in the temporary bedroom that was provided to him by the UESA. He rubbed at his eyes tiredly before looking over towards the window. He stared hard enough that if someone had walked into the room they would have assumed he was looking for something. Maybe he was. He wanted to get back to the Preventers as soon as possible.

He was worried about how Duo was doing. He was curious about how his training was going. Or maybe he just wanted to be close by in case something happened. That wasn't the only reason. He wanted to get away from this place, from the strangeness that was Romefeller and the words their Representative had spoken to him.

Maybe by then you'll be willing to tell me your real name. Maybe then you'll be ready to come work for me. Everything is drawn to a certain state. And right now…There is a red twine connecting the two of us together.

A knock at the door pulled him away from his thoughts. He started to say enter but his instincts told him that checking the door would be best. Besides, it was lock…it wasn't like anyone could just-

He heard a beep before the door clicked and opened up permitting him to the view of the Romefeller Representative standing in his doorway. He jumped up quickly, reaching for weapons he didn't have. He didn't have his gun. They wouldn't permit it here in the case that something did happen between the two forces.

Treize didn't even look fazed as he smiled staring right at him. He was dressed down in something far more comfortable than the suit he'd been wearing earlier. It was the same for Wufei who wore a long white shirt and some slightly baggy white pants for comfort. He hadn't bothered to put the ponytail back in, not since he was getting ready to go to bed anyway. Or at least that had been the plan before this guy showed up.

"You…" Wufei said staring at him like he was crazy. What was he doing there? Even worse, how did he get a key to his room? "What are you doing here?"

"I figured you could use some fresh air." Treize stepped into the room, his aura once again that of someone harmless. It bothered Wufei that he couldn't do anything about it. He couldn't just ignore the man though, not with the other in his room.

"I'm fine, thank you." Wufei stood moving to walk past the man planning on getting as far away from him as he could. There was no use staying around such a wicked man who didn't mind sneaking into someone's bedroom. He'd find somewhere safer for rest tonight.

"Then I guess learning more about 02 isn't really of your interest."

"…What was that?" Wufei was almost to the door but he stopped and looked back when he heard those words. "What did you say about 02?" He had to be careful what he called Duo here. He didn't know how much OZ knew about him. And from the previous clues that had led their team to finding Duo in the first place, it wasn't much besides his tattoo and cross. Of course a lot of that information had already been deleted so there wasn't any real way to see how much OZ knew.

"There are a lot of things that 02 doesn't know about himself," Treize said turning around and looking at him, looking like a completely innocent man though Wufei didn't believe it. "Come take a walk with me." Treize didn't even wait for him as he slid past walking out the door, expecting Wufei to follow him. Wufei frowned because there wasn't much he could do but follow. If someone from Romefeller was willing to giving him information about someone the Preventers were protecting, he was willing to take the bait.

So he moved his feet shuffling after the Representative, staring after the man's back before he caught up to him. Treize didn't speak, only humming some unknown tune as he walked. Wufei glanced around them expecting to see his entourage of guards, but he saw no one. They were, literally, alone in the hallway. It wasn't surprising since it was about two o' clock in the morning. They were probably the only two insane people awake right now.

He didn't know what Treize's reasoning was besides to pester Wufei one last chance before the other left. They just had one more meeting to get through before going home tomorrow. Home. Was the space station really his home now? Well he hadn't known a home for a long time.

"Are you actually going to tell me anything about 02 or are you just using this as an excuse to make me walk with you?" He was getting impatient. They'd been walking about fifteen minutes now and had to be far enough away that no one else would be around to hear them speak.

"A bit of both," Treize said sounding amused. He kept walking leading Wufei on in what was probably a wild goose chase. "Because I do really enjoy your company." Treize looked over at him and it made Wufei feel uncomfortable again. But he didn't stare long this time as he took them into a room. "Here. This will do fine."

"Do fine for what?" Wufei followed him inside then frowned as he stared around the room. A music room. Probably where all the musical performers liked to store all of their instruments from the party. It'd be cleared out by time everyone was ready to leave. But right now there was an assortment of instruments from flutes and clarinets to violins and cellos to pianos and drums. These were the items that had been used to create the music for the party earlier.

Treize went over to one of the pianos lifting up the key cover as he sat down on the stool. With not even a moment of hesitation he started to play a soft medley that Wufei had never heard of before. It was beautiful and sounded unlike something a man that was part of Romefeller would play. He found himself calming down while listening, found that he was willing to listen to what the man had to say.

But he didn't say anything, even as Wufei walked over to him standing beside him and watching his fingers as they danced across the keys.

"What information do you have about 02?"

"Humor me a bit longer and I'll tell you." Treize just looked up at him, seeming to smirk before he slid over making room on the small bench for the other to sit as well. With a sigh, Wufei found himself sitting down to join the older man. If this wasn't for Duo, he wouldn't agree to a single thing. But since this was Duo, he was willing to put up with this man a little longer. He didn't even know if the information was even important.

Treize played a few notes to a new song. It was a song Wufei had heard before and actually did kind of like. He listened to Treize play zoning out a bit before the music suddenly stopped. Alerted by the sudden change, Wufei looked over at Treize with a frown finding the other staring at him. It was like he'd been waiting on him to look up because when he did, Treize just grinned and gestured with his hand held out like a true gentleman to indicate that he wanted Wufei to play as well.

Wufei lifted a brow at him but he reached out resting his hands on the keys starting to play where Treize had left off with the lighter keys. He could play the piano and any other instrument he'd been trained to play. It was just part of being an elitist. He was supposed to be the best of the best. So he played along, looking away from the keys to look over at Treize who seemed to not have a care in the world as he closed his eyes listening.

Then Treize was playing along with him giving the music even more of a melody. Wufei found his fingers moving faster, following and keeping up with the Representative. Treize glanced over at him looking smug for one moment. He reached across to where Wufei's keys were playing between Wufei's fingers surprising the Preventer agent. He kept playing though, ignoring further actions as he placed one hand on the left side of the board and one on the right. They finished off each other's notes, coinciding with each other in a way he didn't think was possible.

But Treize made one mistake that reminded Wufei of who he was playing with. He moved resting both his hands down on Wufei's pressing down on the keys and making the boy tense up in surprise. He felt uncomfortable again, feeling the other's fingers touching his before he quickly yanked them away and stood up quickly glaring down at Treize. He was breathing hard, practically panting as he stared at the other man who only seemed to show amusement for his actions. The last notes of the pressed keys echoed on the walls of the music room almost like they were taunting him for giving in. But it went unnoticed by Wufei who was watching the other male like he was crazy.

"Bravo," Treize said staring up at him and smirking, not the least bit bothered by Wufei's rejection to his touch. "You played superbly."

"Cut the chit chat and get to the other part of our bargain," Wufei said growling as he stepped away from the piano. The other didn't make a move to follow him, instead resting an elbow on the keys and resting his head in his hand, the keys his elbow rested on making a loud off-key sound that didn't please the ear. He stared at Wufei giving him a once over that sent a shiver down Wufei's body. "What are you going to tell me about 02?"

"A deal really is a deal. I'm not one to go back on my words." Treize stood up finally, reaching down to close the cover over the keys. "First off, how much do you know about 02?"

Wufei didn't lighten up on his glare. "This isn't for you to ask questions. If anything, I should be the one to ask."

"Fair enough," Treize said chuckling. "Fine. The information I have for you pertains to 02's life."

"…To his life?" Wufei frowned staring at him eyes glowing with suspicion. "What's wrong with 02's life?"

"His body is in an instable state," Treize said smirking for a moment before he started walking towards the door, walking towards where Wufei was standing. "For one, he hasn't had the treatments we've given him for years now."

"You mean the injections you forced on him." Treize completely ignored Wufei's outburst as he kept talking, pausing by the tense Wufei and staring down at him before he kept moving for the door.

"So since his body isn't constantly relying on it, it's growing weaker. The bones, the skin, even the blood is growing denser each year. We'd be able to help him if he just came back to us. But he seems to want to ignore our pleas that he returns."

"Because you're a bunch of…" He had to catch himself and make himself calm down. "First off, what do you mean? Are you trying to say his body's getting weaker? Because from what I've seen, he's pretty strong."

"It means, my dear friend," Treize said stopping by the door and looking back at him. "That without us, he will die." Wufei's whole body went tense at those words. Duo? Die?

"No way…you're lying."

Treize shrugged his shoulders at the words as if he weren't sure himself. "That's up to you to decide if you believe me or not. But in the end you'll be the one to deal with the consequences. The only thing I could provide you with after that is a shoulder to cry on." The words sounded mocking to him and Wufei frowned following after Treize when the other left out of the room.

"W-Wait a minute! You can't just...S-STOP!" Wufei rushed out the door and reached out grabbing Treize's arm before he could get too far away. "What do you mean he'll die? You're lying right? You can't be telling me the truth about that!"

Treize didn't say anything, just looked at him. It wasn't an angry look just a knowing one as if he knew he what he was talking about. There was no lie there…Wufei could see it in the eyes that stared at him.

"No…" Wufei said softly, his fingers relaxing letting the sleeve of the Representative's shirt slip free. Thinking about Duo dying, of him never smiling again actually did hurt. They'd already lost one of their own before, did they really need to lose another person that had gotten close to them.

Treize hadn't walked away yet. When he noticed that he looked up at him feeling strangely tired now after hearing those words. The older man just stared at him before reaching into his pocket and producing a small vial of some weird blue liquid. "Here," he said reaching down and slipping it into Wufei's hand.

Wufei blinked and looked down at the vial frowning as he stared at it suspiciously. There weren't any labels on it to tell him what it was. "What's this?"

"Considering it 02's medication," Treize said the smirk on his face. "When he starts showing signs of weakling, using that on him should help. Either inject it into him for faster results or sneak it into his food and drinks." Those words were making Wufei angry again already.

"What makes you think I-"

"Whether you use it or not is up to you. You can throw away right now if you'd like. But the only way you'll get more of it is to come to see me." Treize grinned at the words. "Consider this one to be a little gift."

Wufei opened his mouth to retort but he couldn't think of anything to say to those words. Without another word, Treize left him after that walking away from him as he headed back down the hallway. He left Wufei alone in that hall staring down at the mysterious vial and feeling frustration within him at the thought of having to use the stuff on Duo just to keep him alive. Well it was going to give him something to think on while he lay in bed. Damn that Treize.

TBC…

Goodness, even though they aren't my favorite pairing, I'm have too much fun writing these two together. Hope you guys enjoyed the update!
