Two weeks passed since Dante and Kyrie had confessed their feelings for each other but other than that nothing had changed. Things remained the same between them. Neither hunter made a move or notion to make a difference in the way they acted towards one another. For both of them that was what caused the doubt to settle in. Dante sat at his desk with his eyes closed mulling over what he had said to the younger woman. He wondered if she had meant that she liked him in the same context that he had. The way her eyes had lit up when she had told him, he didn't think that she had meant it any other way but he couldn't be sure. Dante growled slightly at his doubts and brought his arms to cross his chest.
He couldn't be certain and that was what bothered him. He didn't want to make a move on Kyrie and embarrass her and himself if she had meant it in a plutonic way. The last thing he needed was for her to get freaked out and only make her want to leave again. Dante knew that it wasn't in Kyrie's nature to throw herself at him like he was used to women doing but a little hint might have been nice. Kyrie seemingly didn't have a promiscuous thought in her head. She was sweet and demure which Dante wasn't necessarily used to. The women he had attracted in the past were wild, it showed in not just how they dressed but how they acted, but he knew that he wasn't exactly a saint either. The worst thing he could do was say something that would make her want to leave again so he decided to keep his mouth shut.
Kyrie didn't understand why Dante seemed blaise about what they had confessed a couple of weeks past. At first she thought that from there on out he would be all over her like Trish and Lady swore he did but he made no indication that he had meant anything more than that he simply liked her. Kyrie couldn't help but feel as if she had been reading between the lines. Maybe she had heard a tone she wanted to hear and misread Dante's signals. Thinking back on it she had been so sure that day but now she didn't know. The uncertainty was what was bothering her. She didn't want to say something or do something that would embarrass herself or make it awkward for Dante. The last thing she wanted was to alienate him in some way.
She had never seen him upset with anyone, not even the demons he hunted, but knew it was lying just underneath the surface. She doubted that he would ever be upset with her but if she had mistaken his kindness for something more and acted on it then who is to say he wouldn't be. She just didn't know what to do. Then she had thought that maybe Dante was having trouble the way Nero had at first. She could remember when they were younger and he would look away embarrassed or swipe at his nose the way he did to avert her gaze. Maybe Dante had the same hang up. Maybe he couldn't tell her how he felt. Maybe, just maybe.
"I just don't know what to do." Kyrie stated. The live band played in the background causing her to have to raise her voice. Lady and Trish sat across from her at the bar table they were sitting at. They both just glanced at each other and smirked before returning their attention back to the younger female.
"I'll tell you what to do. Tell him all of that, kiss him...make a move." Lady said taking a swig from her beer.
"I, um, no...I can't do that." Kyrie said looking down at the table and sitting back in her chair. She felt her face heat up at the thought of simply strolling into Devil May Cry and sitting on Dante's desk...from there she wouldn't even know what to do.
"Kyrie, I'm not bringing this up for bad memories or anything but I mean...you were with Nero for a while. Didn't you ever seduce him?" Trish asked.
"No. Things just progressed in their own time." Kyrie replied. "After what happened with the savior was when Nero and I began to become more intimate. Before that it was unspoken but we knew how we felt for each other."
"Alright then, I know exactly what you need. Liquid courage." Trish stated. She motioned over the waitress and whispered something to her. Kyrie watched the woman disappear behind the bar for a few minutes and came back with a double shot glass of something clear. Kyrie looked up at her and watched her walk away. She looked down at the glass and glanced up at Trish.
"Liquid courage?" She asked with a small smirk. Trish only nodded. She looked at Lady who simply shrugged.
"It's up to you honey." She said. Kyrie picked up the glass staring into it. It seemed unassuming but knew that most things usually did. She brought it to her lips and closed her eyes swallowing it down.
Trish and Lady helped Kyrie onto Dante's couch. She was a little unsteady on her feet. She had been tipsy before but she figured that this was one step above that. Things were fuzzy but she was still completely aware of what was going on around her. She heard Dante get up from his chair and walk over to her direction.
"What the hell did you guys do to her?" He asked concerned. "She's redder than a cherry."
"We had girls night." Lady replied.
"Later." Trish said simply and the two females left.
"Geez." Dante said walking towards the back of his office. Kyrie readjusted herself feeling her inhibitions significantly lowered. She figured it was the alcohol but at the same time she was fine with that. It was what she had needed to be able to tell Dante how she felt. At that moment she didn't care if he didn't reciprocate it. Then again she figured that Lady and Trish must know something otherwise she doubted they would have let her walk into a mortifying situation. "Sorry sweetie. I told you you had to be careful around those two."
Kyrie felt a cool washcloth pressed against her forehead. She closed her eyes almost forgetting what she wanted to do. She could just lean against Dante and fall asleep. She shook her head slightly and reopened her eyes. She turned her head slightly to face Dante. She figured it was late judging by the fact that Dante was shirtless and barefoot. He had on an old pair of jeans and looked somewhat tired.
"Sorry if we woke you up." Kyrie stated.
"Nah, it's fine." He replied. "I wasn't sleeping yet anyways." Kyrie felt her resolve wain as Dante pressed the cool cloth to her cheeks. She felt her hand move up to Dante's wrist gripping it gently. She brought his hand down and took away the washcloth dropping it on the floor. Her fingers wrapped around his hand as she moved closer to him closing the small gap that had existed between them. Dante watched intently as Kyrie placed her other hand against his cheek moving closer to him still.
"Kyrie, sweetie, you're drunk." Dante said softly. "I don't think you know what you're doing." She pressed her lips to his gently. Dante couldn't help the small gasp that escaped him before he began kissing her back. He wrapped his arms around her waist pulling her so that she was pressed against him as he deepened the kiss a bit. Her lips were soft and warm. She tasted every bit as sweet as her demeanor was.
It was different kissing Dante then it had ever been kissing Nero. While Dante seemed more than happy to let her lead she could tell by the way that he moved his lips against hers that he was far more experienced than what she had been accustomed to. She giggled slightly as he backed away some and laid soft kisses against her lips. She wrapped her arms around his neck snaking her tongue slightly running it along his bottom lip eliciting another small gasp from the man. Kyrie couldn't help but smirk. She was greeted by feeling Dante meet her in the middle with his own tongue and push slightly as if asking permission to deepen their kiss.
Kyrie parted her lips slightly all the while not breaking contact with Dante. She reveled in the taste of the elder hunter as he massaged and explored the inside of her mouth as she did the same to his. After what seemed like only a few seconds they broke away for air although lust had a lot to do with their heavy breathing as well. Kyrie's dainty fingers went to Dante's cheek stroking it gently. He still held onto her as she was practically laying on top of him and he nuzzled against her neck kissing it gently. She moaned contently albeit softly.
She rested her head against his hair and breathed him in deeply. She didn't want the moment to end. She wanted to just stay like that for eternity. Dante moved his gaze back to hers as he rested back somewhat. He took in her appearance and smirked. Her lips were slightly swollen and bright red. The apples of her cheeks were red with what looked like a blush that he knew wasn't just in part to the alcohol she had drank. They stared into each others eyes and knew that this wasn't just a one time shot because of what she had drank. They had meant it and it was then that they realized what they truly meant to each other.
Even still in the back of Dante's mind came the nagging thought. It had been more prevalent when he had first met up with Kyrie but as time went on it seemed as if sometimes it were there and other times it was absent, why did Nero leave her so suddenly? Again he thought that there had to have been a reason. Sure, they could have just grown up and apart but from what Kyrie had told him it just set off some bells for him. There must have been something that the kid hadn't been able to tell her. He had never voiced those thoughts to her though, he didn't want to cause her pain or worse false hope.
Kyrie kissed him again and Dante decided that he didn't care. It was the kids loss for letting her go. It was a mistake he wasn't going to make. Kyrie was one of the only people he had met that genuinely cared for him, she wanted to make sure he was alright and that he was happy. It just so happened that it had taken a turn for the more intimate side. Dante broke the kiss and took her in some more.
"Kyrie, I really care for you." He stated feeling as if his heart would burst from his chest. He had never felt so strongly for someone before. It was a scary feeling to leave himself so open for someone else to do with as they please. Kyrie smiled at him and rested her head against his chest. She lazily ran her hands across his amulet and sighed as if she were resting.
"I care for you too Dante." She replied. Dante knew from there on out that it was the kids loss and no one would take his Kyrie away from him.
