"Kid!" Dante enthused into the phone as soon as Nero answered.
"Hey old man." He replied.
"So I was just calling to let you know that I'm awesome." He stated smugly.
"Okay I'll bite; why are you awesome?" Nero said amused.
"Because I'm a champion!" He nearly shouted excitedly.
"How in the hell does Kyrie put up with you?" He asked curiously.
"Loves blind? Beats me." He replied. "So I have a daughter..."
"Really?! That's great Dante..." Nero began before being cut off.
"And a son!" He said.
"Twins? Kyrie had twins?" Neto managed to stutter out.
"Yup. She sure did." Dante replied pride beaming in his tone.
"You guys deserve it." He stated honestly. "After all the crap you had to put up with...I'm happy for you. Hit us up in a few days and we'll stop by, if Kyrie's feeling up to it."
"Absolutely. I'll keep in touch." Dante said before tossing the phone into its cradle. He glanced back at the shut door to the bedroom behind him hearing no sound. They must have been sleeping.
Dante sat back in his chair rummaging through his drawer grabbing out a magazine as if it were a normal day, granted he still felt the excitement coursing through him like wildfire that he was a father at last but it still felt sort of the same.
With a relenting sigh he stood up and cracked open the door walking into the room. Kyrie was sitting up against the headboard holding one of the infants in her arms cradling their child close to her.
"Can you help?" She asked tiredly with pleading eyes.
"Like you need to ask." He chided gently sitting next to her on their bed.
"Every time I go to put Hazel down she just starts screaming and wakes up James." She stated indicating their son who slept soundly in the bassinet next to their bed. "I've tried everything and I just...I need sleep."
Dante leaned closer placing a light kiss against his wife's cheek before scooping his newborn daughter up into his arms.
"Get some rest honey." He said softly. "I've got this." Kyrie gave him a grateful nod and laid down before he exited the room.
"Alright baby girl, let's let mom get some sleep." He said walking back out to his desk. He sat in his chair with his daughter in the crook of his arm and stared at her while she blinked blearily up at him.
He examined her eyes, muddy blue with milky whites, he ran a hand softly against the top of her head playing with the downy fuzz that sprouted, it was too fine to tell any discernible coloring.
Dante glanced at the picture of his mother that sat on his desk and he couldn't help but smirk. "Can you believe it mom? Never thought I'd see the day but here we are."
Hazel scrunched up her face at the sound of his voice and let out a sharp small cry. "Hey, hey now...none of that." The baby did it again as if in response to him.
It was possible with her devil heritage he surmised that on some level she knew who he was. The same way he had been able to communicate with one of the twins before they were born and at one point Vergil.
Dante felt as if his daughter had been the one answering him when he would check on her during Kyrie's pregnancy. James it seemed was more human than his sister but who knew, time would tell.
"You're gonna cause me all kinds of trouble aren't ya?" Dante mused kissing her on the forehead. "You're my little firecracker. Gotta watch out for you." Hazel yawned in response finally closing her eyes and was instantly asleep.
"Come on Nina." Nero pleaded with his daughter. "Just take a bite." The toddler sat at the table pouting and shook her head.
"No." She said defiantly.
"But it's spaghetti and meatballs, you always eat this." He said bringing the fork closer to her mouth again.
"No." She said again turning her head away. Nero felt his patience waining. He had better things to do than fight with his three year old.
"Fine, don't eat...see if I care." He said tossing the fork down into the bowl. No sooner did he that Nina grabbed it herself and forced as much food in her mouth as she could. She spit out the meatballs chewing happily on the spaghetti.
"Ha...ha." She said smirking at her father.
"Yeah, 'ha ha'." He said humorlessly. "You're your mothers child." Nina smirked up at him and stuck out her tongue cheekily. "Yeah...mine too."
He watched as his daughter decided after another bite that the fork was unnecessary and grabbed fistfuls of food shoveling it in her mouth.
Nero knew he should be telling her to not do that, use the fork...blah, blah, blah. There were times where her antics down right annoyed him and other times he thought she was the cutest thing on the planet...unfortunately for him Nina knew exactly what strings to pull to get her way with him.
"Man, Dante's in trouble." Nero laughed out shaking his head. Nina perked up at the name and glanced at the door as if he had walked in.
"Da te." She said looking back at her father.
"No honey, Dante's not here." He said.
"Kiki." She said getting another head shake.
"Nope, Kyrie's not here either." He replied.
"Daddy." She smiled widely pointing at him.
"Yup, that's me." He said ruffling her sauce covered hair. "And who are you?" He pointed at her.
"Ina." She stated proudly.
"No, Nina...you're Nina." He said pronouncing the beginning of her name.
"Ina." She repeated rubbing her eyes.
"Alright kiddo, lets get you bathed before you pass out on me. I don't think mom'd appreciate you getting sauce all over your sheets." He said lifting her up into his arms.
She wrapped her own arms around his smearing sauce all over him. "Really Nina?"
"Bat daddy!" She yelled laughing at him.
"Yeah, now I'm probably going to need one too." He smirked. "You're definitely my kid too."
