He had planned for every possibility. He had backup plan after backup plan. But there was only one thing, one scenario that had been out of his hands from the beginning: Interpol. He had been expecting, hoping really, that he would be saddled with an agent he had dealt with before, or at least one of the agents who wouldn't press to hard and could be easily manipulated.
He hadn't been expecting her. Alma Dray. If anyone else had been sent he could have handled them, but she was new. She didn't know how agents typically acted and that was enough to make her dangerous. She looked into things no other Interpol would think to study, came to startlingly accurate conclusions.
He made it work, but only just because out of all the things he had planned for, he couldn't have anticipated her.
